I justed painted the entire bumper for my 2000 honda civic and this stuff works. Prep is very very important when it comes to painting. You have to make sure all grease.dirt and wax is removed from the surface.
this is the best car scratch fix video i've ever seen. Clear speaking, nice quality of the picture, reasonable working steps and perfect results! i like it! finally i learnt how to fix the scratch. I'm more confident to buy the products and do it on my own now.
@Jake Keele - we recommend waiting 30 minutes (until it is dry to the touch) in-between coats. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours for wet sanding or buffing.
Hi Michael! Perfect Match is designed with all auto body work applications in mind. Perfect Match would have limited flexibility, but isn’t so brittle that it would not survive some minor flexing.
Perfect Match is lacquer-based. Lacquer based paints can be damaged by solvents such as gas. You would want to use a 2 part, urethane clear coat for max solvent resistance. Unfortunately, we don't offer one. We suggest contacting Sherwin Williams Automotive. You may also want to find a local bodyshop (they can shoot 2 part clears & may be able to add your parts to an existing project). Another option would be to use Engine Enamel on the surface being painted, which offers better fuel resistance.
First, it’s best to not paint something that would possibly interfere with your driving visibilty in any way. So long as you use our Adhesion Promoter primer to prep the hard/rigid/non-flexing plastic surface. You can use anything in our line over it.
I'm planning to paint some Sideskirts I have on Sunday using the steps, sand with 320 grit, 1 coat of adhesion promoter, 3-4 of paint and 2-3 of Clear. Does this sound about right or should I do something differently? Also you said 20-30 minutes between the different steps what about time between different coats? I was thinking maybe 10 minutes?
Under 2006 Scion, our website does not list Color Code 8P4 at all. In our catalog, Color Code 8P4 is listed as Dark Blue Pearl. That said, we do list Color Code 8S6 as Nautical Blue Metallic.
Moises, a house painter told me that pretty much any time you repaint any part of a house you need to undercoat the new color with a gray. White will not hide a dark color very well. I can testify that this is true after changing our dining room from Forest green to a deep red because that's what my wife wanted.
The clear coat on my car is pretty much gone after 13 years, but would it be possible to paint your entire vehicle with this or at least separate parts that aren't as badly effected from the clear coat fading such as the trunk or the door?
i just did the paint on my Toyota Camry Hybrid 2009 front bumper as per the instructions, the results were very good, thanks Dupli color, except the shine/glossy finish, any suggestion how can I get a good shiny glassy finish??? thanks
There's like 14 different exterior colours for a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, including 3 shades of black. And I have a black 2008 Equinox with a scratch, but the only colour you match for my make is bright white. Do you think anyone would notice?
Respect, I want to paint a motorcycle windshield. with "acrylic enamel spray paint" but without sanding and primer. I want my windshield is not blurred by sanding and primer. Is it possible to do it? Thank you and best regards. Edi Luksic from Croatia
great video. 1-To paint a new bumper, do you apply cleaner, primer, paint, and clear coat at the end? is that the right order? If so, how do you blend if you paint only one small area of the bumper? 2-Do you need adhesive so the paint stick to the plastic bumper or the primer already has that? 3-Also how many cans of each do you usually need for the whole bumper? Thanks
+zofa300 Yes, to paint a bumper, you'll want to clean the surface and then Prime, Paint and Clear with Perfect Match products. That's the correct order. In order to make a repair in the middle of a body panel, you will want to wet sand the affected area smooth with 1500 grit sand paper to eliminate and imperfections and uneven appearance. Once smooth, clean the area, let it dry, then tack cloth it. Regardless if this is the primer, color coat, or the clear coat, I suggest using a method called "Tenting" to eliminate the hard edge line that can happen when masking off small repair areas. Here is the technique: Allow for a two-inch overspray zone/border all around the repair area. Lay a stiff or heavy sheet of paper over the repair area and tape the top edge of the paper, corner-to-corner, to the uppermost edge of the overspray zone/border. Now grasp the bottom edge of the paper you just taped and bend the paper up and away from the repair area, sticking the top edge of the paper to the body panel. The bend you have created is now facing you (kind of like a teardrop of paper hanging on the body panel). Depending upon the paper you are using, the bend may need to be tightened. Just tape the paper higher up on the body to tighten the bend. You want a tight bend without a deep sag. This bend or tent will soften the edge line created by the overspray that you would get if you simply taped a square border around the repair area. Repeat this technique on the remaining three sides of the repair area, thus "boxing in" the area to be sprayed. Basically you will have four bends facing you and your repair area boxed in the center. You should still see your overspray zone but the bend will be slightly obscuring the underlying taped edge. The slight overhang that the bend produces is what softens the overspray line and prevents overspray from spreading to far across the body panel. I suggest testing this method on a piece of poster board to perfect your technique before doing so on your vehicle. You will still have an overspray line, but it will not be a hard line that needs lots of wet sanding to make smooth prior to buffing. Rubbing compound will blend the repair area much easier. You will need to allow the repair area to cure for 5-7 days before using the rubbing compound. The Primer would work for plastic, but we also make a product called Adhesion Promoter specifically for plastic surfaces. You could apply the Adhesion Promoter, then the Filler Primer, then Paint and Clear. 1-2 cans should cover and entire bumper.
It is likely that the OEM paint applied to your vehicle is urethane based. DC is lacquer based. Lacquers cannot be applied over urethanes. The solvent in the lacquer is too hot and will eat into the urethane therefore, we don't recommend that you apply the DC Clear over top of the OEM paint. You will need to apply a urethane clear over top. Unfortunately, we do not offer one at this time. We suggest contacting Sherwin Williams Automotive for a product recommendation.
Is the PM Clearcoat shown here resistant to gasoline? How about wheel-cleaners? (I'm using your 'Bright Red' to re-paint the tires and tank of my old Kawasaki.) If PM Clearcoat is not sufficient, which of your products would you suggest? Thanks (Minor rant: Visiting your site, it's difficult / impossible to determine the chemical resistance, hardness, etc. of your various products. A big table of physical properties would be VERY handy.)
Perfect Match is designed with all auto body work applications in mind. Perfect Match would have limited flexibility, but isn’t so brittle that it would not survive some minor flexing.
I'm using it right now i added my high build primer lts of sanding i hope it comes out. I need to know what type of clear coat i should put over to not affect it.
My finish came out too satin. The 3 light coats of clear seemed like they should have been put on wetter. Any suggestions on clear application and cutting/buffing afterwards?
@Mzlala19 - We actually have a product specifically for your door panels, seats, dash and your interior! It's called Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Coating.
Seems simple enough. But WHERE IN THE WORLD can you find the duplicolor perfect match Laser Red paint code AX6 for an 06 Infiniti G35 coupe? My local auto parts stores don't carry it and think I don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help!
Aside from cleaning with Grease and Wax Remover, we’d say your surface preparation is great! Correct, you’ll need to wait 10 minutes in between coats of the Perfect Match Paint/Clear.
It sounds like moisture is trapped in the finish causing it to seem dull. You might need to scuff the finish, wipe it clean with Prep Spray and allow it to dry. This might help it to clear up, prior to applying more paint (following the recoat time).
I have a 2005 Honda accord (B92P color code) there are no scratches, chips, or damages on the surface I am painting except the paint is fading. Would I still need to use the filler primer? or can I use the paint coat and clear coat? Apparently Hondas of that color are known for having issues with that paint color.
+Force599 Thank you for reaching out to us! You would't need the filler primer and should be able to just use the paint. We hope we answered your question!
there're multiple scratches on both sides of the front bump as a result of touching the concrete wall, if I just sand the areas to make them feel even and then apply color coat followed by clear coat without using prima (filler), what will be result as far as you can imagine? Thanks!
+Isaac Massey Typically, 400 grit will not be enough to create an adequate profile and feather the edges. The filler primer is necessary to blend the area, especially for deeper scratches or larger chips.
Hi Sawyer! Unfortunately, the Perfect Match Paint, or any of the product we offer, cannot be used on carbon fiber canoes. The reason why is that none of our products can withstand constant contact with water or submersion. They will prematurely break down when exposed to such conditions. Furthermore, the adhesion of any of our products to carbon fiber would be minimal as this kind of substrate does not lend itself to sanding. We suggest you look into marine grade products. :)
Hi i just bought a toyota celica body kit which is already primed black if i buy my paint code cans can i spray the body kit with the cans than use the clear coat cans would it match my cars paint ?
Hello, great video, I am trying to replace a bumper on my car, it's different color than mine, do I need all the three products (marketing aside), or the original manufacturer k11 dupi color will work by itself, also do I need to scrape the other paint off it? I am going from black to metallic smoke. Thanks
I have a 2009 Scion xB, color code is 209. I have seen two different names, Black Mica, and Black Sand Pearl for this code. I have bought Perfect Match BTY1622 , hope that's correct. What about hoods, door's etc., is it better to plan to repaint the whole part?
+kuzbro The correct name for his year, make and model of vehicle is Black Sand Pearl- 209. The Perfect Match product- BTY16220 is the correct touch up paint. Depending on the condition of the paint, you should not have to paint the entire door or hood. The Perfect Match line is specifically formulated to match OEM paint colors and help make touch-ups on your vehicle a bit easier. Let us know if you have any more questions!
Don't know why dupli-color stopped making T110 (pure white 11oz. can) cuz I'm gonna go through the 8oz. like crazy all the time..... AVS off-road style visors!
Why does the web site list 8P4 Dark Blue Pearl BTY1623 for a 2006 scion tc But the color is really called 8S6 nautical blue metallic. Is it the same color?
will duplicolor work for areas down to bear metal i have 3 areas on my hook and there big but i cant find my color number in my door i have a 96 dodge ram 1500
@samuelowen no, the sunday paper has special mono oxides in it that prohibit paint molecules from leaving a 15 square centimetre area around the scratches. This technology was developed around world war two so car repainting jobs would take alot less time, leaving more time for building artillery and killing ze axis... rofl
I have a whole tailgate I'm needing to repaint, with it being a large surface, is using the spray can a good idea? if I do wet sand between each color paint and clear coat, will it avoid spray lines? (I've never painted anything ever)
+Logan Holt Yes, you could paint an entire tailgate with spray cans. Make sure you spray each coat in opposite directions to prevent lines. Light coats to slowly build up the paint is best. Perfect Match Clear should be used over the Paint to protect the Paint and to match the color. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Hi, my 2006 Kia spectra's color code is R1. can you please let me know how to order the color spray? also i presume the filler primer and the clear coat do not have to be car specific, am I right ?
+bdjs100 Unfortunately, we do not make that particular color for your vehicle. You may want to try your local Dealership. Perfect Match Filler Primer and Clear are not vehicle specific.
We used the GM Metallic Silver paint on some plastic door rest bases. They were stripped and clean before painting. Used DC Adhesion Promoter, then applied paint. Applied DC Clear Coat within 10 min of painting (too soon) and got mottling. Repainted and waited 24 hours to clear and still got mottling. Any suggestions?
+btilley1973 The problem you are experiencing is often temperature related. You should be able to apply the clear coat over the GM color in as little as 10-15 minutes without any issues, unless the surface is cool and the paint and or clear is not drying properly. The temperatures must be above 50- but ideally between 60-80 and less then 50% humidity. Another thing to consider is the humidity level, as high humidity can also cause this to occur. We hope we were able to assist you.
Could I use this on a carbon fiber canoe? Or other carbon fiber objects? Someone told me that once it is in water it will start to spider crack. Is this true?
Hello I need some help. I hit a wooden post with the front of my car and now I have a pretty big area of paint missing from the front section of my car. Its all chipped away. I was wondering which product of yours would be the best to use. Also should I use sand paper? I have a black 2008 Honda Accord 4 cylinder/ 4 door.
Is the Dupli-color Perfect Match Candy Apple Red (DUP-BFM0188) a true candy paint? As in a translucent color? Please answer soon, as a project I'm working on depends on it.
So helpful! Thank you for posting. I just bought a new car and there are tiny nicks in the hood from rocks. It's driving me crazy! I'll be buying supplies today.
I need serious help im in store now trying to figure out what to buy.. do I need a primer my car is beige so I had to go out my way to find it but I did so what if my car is already buffered ? Do I just need the the paint & the clear coat ?
After clear coating area, when is it possible to clean the car? At least with cold water(rinse). And how long til all of the clear gasses out so I can wet sand out orange peel ?
We're sorry for any inconvenience. Perfect Match Clear should be part # BCL0125, which would be correct for your application. Please give us a call at 800.247.3270 if you have any further questions.
I got a question my car color is G95P Dupli-Color BHA0976 or I could just use Dupli-Color/Amazon green metallic Perfect Match paint. What if, I do 3 color BHA0976 then add the green metallic for finish or do the green metallic 3 time only would it match G95p? What would be best? Reply ASAP THX
Yes, the Perfect Match Clear is the correct product to use over the Perfect Match Touch Up paint. A dull finish could be the results of a few things. Over-application, high humidity during the application, trapped solvents and holding the can too far from the surface can all result in a dull finish. It would probably be easier to discuss this concern with an agent, by calling 1-800-247-3270.
I live in Michigan and my truck takes a beating from road salt. How well does this spray paint hold up against salt and corrosion? Im a little hesitant to use a rattle can on my truck. Thanks!
UnitCrane514 Should hold up like your OEM paint - however, if you're worried about it you should contact your local Sherwin-Williams Automotive and get a harder clear coat.
jockellis - yes, this is a standard kit that matches your car's finish by matching the color code. Your local Autozone didn't carry it? You can request that they carry it, or try another auto parts store in your area.
duplicolortv hi there, i m from Monterrey Mexico so well here around in my neighborhood r is an Autozone. Is Autzone possible have that kit to paint the 2 bumpers on my ford mustang gt 2000?
looking for may touch up paint int for my Mazda Protege 1998 IAW the sticker is 4F as of today I have e been online and many stores unable to find this color ..any help?
Thank you for the comprehensive help! This is much better than what I got via the DC site's tech support. Will your clear Engine Enamel adhere well to PM, and is it also somewhat chemical resistant? If so, I'm thinking that it might be 'good enough' for the wheels, which won't get anything more harsh than soap and occasional chain lube spatter. After reading your, and other folks', advice, I'm going to take the tank to a local shop for a 'proper' 2-part job. Thanks again.
Understandable DrShankenstein! For time reasons, we do have to cut some of the details -- we are actually doing a special "behind the scenes" feature from our newest UA-cam Series (a 1969 Scout 800 restoration) on our Instagram (@duplicolorauto). You should check it out -- so you can see all the stuff that happens *between* the cuts! :)
I just used your color match on my 05 impala, and it looks like it has a yellow tint that the rest of the car does not. I am a little nervous to clear coat this paint now. Is it normal for the paint to not match prior to clear coating?
Chris - it's hard to tell without the clear coat, but, if there are any issues with this paint - feel free to give us a call at 800.247.3270 and we can walk through it with you!
Hi! In just got a primed front bumper for my Nissan Pathfinder (bought in eBay) and I'm planning to paint it with Dupli-Color Perfect Match. Since the bumper comes already primed I'm just buying the base coat and the clear coats. My questions are: 1.- How many 8 oz cans of base coat and primer should I use? 2.- Do I need to do some sanding and prep to the primed bumper or I can spray the base coat right away? Thanks for your help and any other tips are going to be appreciated!
AlfredoSagittarius Thanks for your question. You'll need to sand the surface of the bumper until it is dull. We recommend using 220 grit sandpaper. Clean the bumper with Grease and Wax remover. We would also recommend using our primer (even though it has a factory primer already, our paints work best when paired with our primers.) We would suggest 1/2 a can of primer, 3 cans of paint, and 1-2 cans of clear. If you have any questions about this, don't hesitate to call our customer service line at 800.247.3270 - one of our application experts will give you the best tips. Good luck! We'd love to see the bumper when its done.
Hi, I notice I bought the exact spray aersol cans for my color of the car. I notice the aersol can color comes out darker just the first coat of base. It is so off from the color of the car. Is there tip to make the paint to come out brighter?
+Darkmand8 What product number are you using? What's the Year, Make, Model and OE Color Code from your vehicle? Did you use the Clear? Using the Clear will help the Paint match the vehicle better.
The color of my vehicle is NH552M Silver Sebing. I have a honda s2000 2002. I also use the clear as well. Just curious why is it so darker from people using the paint gun? Always a slight darker. You can't tell when your far away from the vehicle but onces you walk up close you can tell.
Darkmand8 There are a few reasons why it could appear lighter/darker. The color formula has shifted over time and the new version is darker, the car color has faded, over-application or it's the wrong product. What product number are you using?
I use the Dupli-color BCC0410 where o'relly auto store recommend to match the NH552m. But the color is just way off darker. Do you know if there is any silver that match better with the NH552M color code?
Unfortunately we do not make that particular color for your vehicle. You may want to try your local Dealer or go to www.automotivetouchup.com, who may carry harder to find colors.
I just repainted some areas on my car using your products, the colour match is pretty good! However, after applying three coats of clear coat, it still lacks a pleasant glossy finish. Do I need to polish the area? And how long shall I wait the clear coat to dry completely before polishing it ?
Tony Zheng Hi Tony, thanks for your question. You should let the clear coat dry for 72 hours before buffing. We would recommend using a 1,000 grit or finer sandpaper.
+LicSinMex You'll want to use: Prep Spray, Perfect Match Primer, Perfect Match Paint, Perfect Match Clear. duplicolor.com/product/perfect-match-premium-automotive-paint
***** You can wet sand using an Automotive Grade sandpaper of 2000 grit lubricated with water to bring up the sheen in that area. You can then buff the coating using a buffing compound.
Paul Villesca Hi Paul, our aerosol products typically provide up to 18 square feet of coverage. Typically you'll get best results with 2 thin coats and 1 medium coat, so it depends on how large your spoiler is. Good luck! We'd love to see the finished product.
We'd suggest that you sand the clear coat -- if you follow the instructions on the can, you shouldn't need to sand any other paint layer. If you get a drip or run in the primer or paint layer, you can always give that a sand. But you should only need to wet sand the clear coat.
+Harman Mundi Unfortunately we do not make that particular color for your vehicle. You may want to try your local Dealer or go to www.automotivetouchup.com, they tend to carry some of the harder to find colors.
If the Clear has been applied too heavy, it would peel. Peeling is generally a result of something that’s been mis-applied or another factor - let us help you figure that out, please give us a call at 1-800-247-3270.
+malmangelucci Unfortunately, we do not have this color available. You might be able to find it at your local Sherwin-Williams Automotive dealer: www.sherwin-automotive.com/refinish/stores-where-to-buy/store-locator/
Hey Matt, Thanks for you question. There are a few different techniques for minimizing tape lines. The best way is to paint up to body or character lines, using the car's natural lines to hide any tape lines. Another good technique for softening tape lines is to take your tape and lay it down so that it's covering a character line. You then roll the tape back to make a tube. This technique will soften the edge of your paint line making it less noticeable. Also, if neither of these techniques seem to be working the way you'd like, you can always wet sand, buff and polish the line so it blends back in with the finish. Hope this helps!
My 2004 Honda Accord has OEM paint code B92P. I bought a can of Duplicolor a few years ago by referencing this paint code, and the spec on the can was EBHA09410. This was a perfect match of the black OEM color. This week I bought another can for another spot on the car, and the new paint can says BHA0982. This color does not match. It is more blue than black. Do you know why Duplicolor changed the mix of this paint?
Adam Reiner The only time a part number changes is when the color is going to change. A color change is usually determined by the Manufacturer of the paint (in this case Honda). That said, a few more light coats to build up the color is suggested.
It sounds like moisture is trapped in the finish causing it to seem dull. There’s nothing in the Perfect Match Clear that would cause it to be a lower sheen. You might need to scuff the finish, wipe it clean with Prep Spray and allow it to dry. This might help it to clear up, prior to applying a medium Clear coat..
I found that the paint i need to touch up my 2009 toyota tacoma was not avaiable any were the paint code is 1E7 or byt1616 this was frustrating because i used another toyota silver color that looked close to mine the cap matched to body color but when i sprayed it it was off even having the gray primer then white sealer as i saw in the paint where some one had damaged the paint on my tailgate and it did not come out even close now i have to track down a quart of the 1E7 from a paint supplyer and redo the whole tailgate to match..
+rock dawg The part # EBTY16160 matches OE Color Code 1E7. Are you saying that you used this color on a car with 1E7 and that it didn't match? If so, please give us a call at 800-247-3270 to discuss or send an email directly to me: roger.d.caudill@sherwin.com
I went to every automotive supply in and around my area they did not carry the bty 1616 i checked five stores none had it i ended going with a paint suppy house they got me a good sized can that will leave me enuff to spray what pannels got damaged from parking lot damage so i have to resand down the tailgate to re apply gray primer and respray and fix a bottom part of right fender thats damaged and wait and then clear coat one day later the funny thing the can of your paint the lable said matches all toyota silver the cap held up to the body was perfect match but when sprayed it looked right then dryed it was one shade lighter go figure the one thing here the supply shops won't sell to non body shop customers i would have used my new spray guns and bought a quart even with the new waterborne stuff ?????
+duplicolortv no the duplicolor didn't match it ended up being wrong it was a shade off i didn't have the 1E7 at the time i have it now but i have to wait till temps come up still cold here and i cannot spray it in a non heated garage also this is the first toyota iv'e respray this color the body primer color is very weird when you sand you see primer then a white sealer i think i may have got the two in wrong mode maybe resulting in the color off looking a lighter silver when you look at the stock color you see a silver slight blue in the silver so this is new to me ive been out of the body shop business for 30 years so this base coat clear coat thing is all new to me back in the day we had just single stage..
Would the Tuesday paper work as well as your regular Sunday paper?
I justed painted the entire bumper for my 2000 honda civic and this stuff works. Prep is very very important when it comes to painting. You have to make sure all grease.dirt and wax is removed from the surface.

@Jake Keele - we recommend waiting 30 minutes (until it is dry to the touch) in-between coats. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours for wet sanding or buffing.
It depends on the depth of the scratch. If the scratches are deep, we’d suggest using Filler Primer first.
Hi Michael! Perfect Match is designed with all auto body work applications in mind. Perfect Match would have limited flexibility, but isn’t so brittle that it would not survive some minor flexing.
I hate these guides....nothing do they say hey blend the overspray or sand it out.....that is a pretty important part of the touch up process
You didn't use wet sanding after the filler applied?
Perfect Match is lacquer-based. Lacquer based paints can be damaged by solvents such as gas. You would want to use a 2 part, urethane clear coat for max solvent resistance. Unfortunately, we don't offer

First, it’s best to not paint something that would possibly interfere with your driving visibilty in any way. So long as you use our Adhesion Promoter primer to prep the hard/rigid/non-flexing plastic surface. You can use anything in our line over it.
Works like a charm! I've done this and saved a bunch of money.

@MegaMoFUnk Wet sand with 1500 grit paper then buff out with a quality compound.
great video.
Here is the technique:
Allow for a two-inch overspray zone/border all around the repair area.
Thank you SO much for your extensive explanation.
Depending on the depth of the rust spot, you may want to use our Filller Primer.
Hello, will a small rust spot over the wheel well be covered using the primer? Or do I need a filling product? Thanks
Is the PM Clearcoat shown here resistant to gasoline?
How about wheel-cleaners?
(I'm using your 'Bright Red' to re-paint the tires and tank of my old Kawasaki.)
If PM Clearcoat is not sufficient, which of your products would you suggest?
Thanks
(Minor rant: Visiting your site, it's difficult / impossible to determine the chemical resistance, hardness, etc. of your various products. A big table of physical properties would be VERY handy.)
Painted my new front grill for my truck came out perfect, will use again for sure
Yes! This would be a great application for over a new part.
@Mzlala19 - We actually have a product specifically for your door panels, seats, dash and your interior! It's called Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Coating.
Codes the uneven pressure of your fingers behind the sandpaper have no effect on the consistency of the sanding job??
Seems simple enough. But WHERE IN THE WORLD can you find the duplicolor perfect match Laser Red paint code AX6 for an 06 Infiniti G35 coupe? My local auto parts stores don't carry it and think I don't know what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help!
order it online
Aside from cleaning with Grease and Wax Remover, we’d say your surface preparation is great!
Correct, you’ll need to wait 10 minutes in between coats of the Perfect Match Paint/Clear.
It sounds like moisture is trapped in the finish causing it to seem dull.
You might need to scuff the finish, wipe it clean with Prep Spray and allow it to dry. This might help it to clear up, prior to applying more paint (following the recoat time).
Do Duplicolor products contain a flex agent for painting plastic bumpers?
Thanks!
Is 400 grit sandpaper okay? And is the filler primer necessary before doing the coat of paint?
+Isaac Massey Typically, 400 grit will not be enough to create an adequate profile and feather the edges. The filler primer is necessary to blend the area, especially for deeper scratches or larger chips.
Hi Sawyer! Unfortunately, the Perfect Match Paint, or any of the product we offer, cannot be used on carbon fiber canoes. The reason why is that none of our products can withstand constant contact with water or submersion. They will prematurely break down when exposed to such conditions. Furthermore, the adhesion of
any of our products to carbon fiber would be minimal as this kind of substrate does not lend itself to sanding. We suggest you look into marine grade products. :)
@WrathchiId thanks! sanding with a sandblock right? or should i use a machine?
Hi i just bought a toyota celica body kit which is already primed black if i buy my paint code cans can i spray the body kit with the cans than use the clear coat cans would it match my cars paint ?
Hello,
great video, I am trying to replace a bumper on my car, it's different color than mine, do I need all the three products (marketing aside), or the original manufacturer k11 dupi color will work by itself, also do I need to scrape the other paint off it? I am going from black to metallic smoke. Thanks
+ViewersDiscretion Here's a link with info to for our Trim & Bumper Paint: www.duplicolor.com/product/trim-and-bumper-paint
I'm looking for a Barcelona red pearl for a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST but I look online and they show different types of colors duplicolortv
after adding the clear coat do you need to wetsand and use rubbing compound on it?
Frank Valdez
Most folks will wet sand and use rubbing compound after the Clear has cured for a full 30-45 days.
Hi would this work yo paint my rear honda civic white bumper i want exactly match thanks nice video
+duplicolortv awesome. would 1 can of paint and clear be enough (same size as in the video) to paint the tailgate? or more cans?
We suggest having 2 cans of Paint and 1 can of Clear. Anything you don't use could be returned. 1 can covers about 10 square feet.
Also, i think my front bumper is made of plastic.
Is the Dupli-color Perfect Match Candy Apple Red (DUP-BFM0188) a true candy paint? As in a translucent color? Please answer soon, as a project I'm working on depends on it.
Hi damnbacon88 (awesome username, btw). No, BFM0188 is matched to the color standard, but it’s a solid paint.
CAN U USE THIS FOR INTERIOR LIKE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE DOOR PANELS DASH ETC...
+Michael Hinchey We suggest waiting 7 days before cleaning the car and waiting 24 hours for a wet sand.
+duplicolortv So wet sand but no compounding for 30 days? I can do a full wash after 7 days, including car soap, micro wash mitts etc?
Yes, wash with car soap/micro wash mitts after 7 days. We'd suggest waiting 14 days before using buffing compounds/wax.
+duplicolortv Thx. u guys have a+++ customer service.
Is there any flex in this paint for spoilers etc?
We're sorry for any inconvenience.
Perfect Match Clear should be part # BCL0125, which would be correct for your application. Please give us a call at 800.247.3270 if you have any further questions.
I got a question my car color is G95P Dupli-Color BHA0976 or I could just use Dupli-Color/Amazon green metallic Perfect Match paint. What if, I do 3 color BHA0976 then add the green metallic for finish or do the green metallic 3 time only would it match G95p? What would be best? Reply ASAP THX
+Tshuaj Vang What is the Year, Make and Model of this vehicle? 695P is the Color Code listed on the vehicle?
Yes, the Perfect Match Clear is the correct product to use over the Perfect
Match Touch Up paint.
A dull finish could be the results of a few things. Over-application, high
humidity during the application, trapped solvents and holding the can too
far from the surface can all result in a dull finish.
It would probably be easier to discuss this concern with an agent, by
calling 1-800-247-3270.
I went to Autozone yesterday and the gent I spoke to knew nothing of this. Is it a standard kit you order, adding the color from the code on your car?
jockellis - yes, this is a standard kit that matches your car's finish by matching the color code. Your local Autozone didn't carry it? You can request that they carry it, or try another auto parts store in your area.
duplicolortv hi there, i m from Monterrey Mexico so well here around in my neighborhood r is an Autozone. Is Autzone possible have that kit to paint the 2 bumpers on my ford mustang gt 2000?
do you need to sand after doing the primer?
@gregoryhowell depends on how much you have to cover.
He's got a mask, but what he really needs is a respirator.
looking for may touch up paint int for my Mazda Protege 1998 IAW the sticker is 4F as of today I have e been online and many stores unable to find this color ..any help?
Hello. Unfortunately we do not make Perfect Match for that color code.
@psyfertech what grit should i use for the glossy look?
?????? :D is these paints the same paint or same cality as the ones used by pros painters? :) i want to paint my hood that clear coat is pealing off
Thank you for the comprehensive help!
is their any blending required ???
Would you recommend these products to paint a bumper?
caleb rhoades Definitely! Was the bumper the same OEM color as your vehicle's body? Then this would work very well!
Yes it is OEM it has few s paint chips
can I paint it over a new part that I put on like bumper or something else
If clear coat is pealing can u paint it the same way
I just used your color match on my 05 impala, and it looks like it has a yellow tint that the rest of the car does not. I am a little nervous to clear coat this paint now. Is it normal for the paint to not match prior to clear coating?
Chris - it's hard to tell without the clear coat, but, if there are any issues with this paint - feel free to give us a call at 800.247.3270 and we can walk through it with you!
Would you have perfect match for a 68 Chevelle matador red?
a dust mask does not provide any protection again inhalants.. only dust. use a respirator in a well ventilated area
Hi!
In just got a primed front bumper for my Nissan Pathfinder (bought in eBay) and I'm planning to paint it with Dupli-Color Perfect Match. Since the bumper comes already primed I'm just buying the base coat and the clear coats. My questions are:
1.- How many 8 oz cans of base coat and primer should I use?
Thanks for the response.
can you list all the items needed please? i don't know much english
+LicSinMex You'll want to use:
Prep Spray, Perfect Match Primer, Perfect Match Paint, Perfect Match Clear.
duplicolor.com/product/perfect-match-premium-automotive-paint
+duplicolortv thanks! I did all the steps but the part I painted is not shining like the rest. What do I need to do now?
***** You can wet sand using an Automotive Grade sandpaper of 2000 grit lubricated with water to bring up the sheen in that area. You can then buff the coating using a buffing compound.
hi i wanted to buy but i need all three of cans to get good result.
I just bought a spoiler for my 4th gen camaro. Would one can be enough to cover it? I have paint code and have it sanded.
Paul Villesca Hi Paul, our aerosol products typically provide up to 18 square feet of coverage. Typically you'll get best results with 2 thin coats and 1 medium coat, so it depends on how large your spoiler is. Good luck! We'd love to see the finished product.
Do you sand the primer or paint coat at all?
We'd suggest that you sand the clear coat -- if you follow the instructions on the can, you shouldn't need to sand any other paint layer. If you get a drip or run in the primer or paint layer, you can always give that a sand. But you should only need to wet sand the clear coat.
hi what do you do if you accidently wet sand to much and go through the clear coat
thanks
The clear coat would need to be reapplied. Perfect Match is lacquer based and does not have a specific recoat window.
I drive a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer - Murcury Grey. What is my color code? I cannot find it. Does duplicolor make a perfect match for it?
+Harman Mundi Unfortunately we do not make that particular color for your vehicle. You may want to try your local Dealer or go to www.automotivetouchup.com, they tend to carry some of the harder to find colors.
If the Clear has been applied too heavy, it would peel. Peeling is generally a result of something that’s been mis-applied or another factor - let us help you figure that out, please give us a call at 1-800-247-3270.
How about code CS3 for a 2000 Altima? Can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks.
+malmangelucci Unfortunately, we do not have this color available. You might be able to find it at your local Sherwin-Williams Automotive dealer:
www.sherwin-automotive.com/refinish/stores-where-to-buy/store-locator/
I use good body shop quality masking tape, but always wind up with a tape line when I pull the tape off. Any thoughts on this?
Hey Matt, Thanks for you question. There are a few different techniques for minimizing tape lines. The best way is to paint up to body or character lines, using the car's natural lines to hide any tape lines. Another good technique for softening tape lines is to take your tape and lay it down so that it's covering a character line. You then roll the tape back to make a tube. This technique will soften the edge of your paint line making it less noticeable. Also, if neither of these techniques seem to be working the way you'd like, you can always wet sand, buff and polish the line so it blends back in with the finish. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tips and the prompt reply!!
Happy to help! Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Adam Reiner Wrong paint code. They still have B92
I went to every automotive supply in and around my area they did not carry the bty 1616 i checked five stores none had it i ended going with a paint suppy house they got me a good sized can that will leave me enuff to spray what pannels got damaged from parking lot damage so i have to resand down the tailgate to re apply gray primer and respray and fix a bottom part of right fender thats damaged and wait and then clear coat one day later the funny thing the can of your paint the lable said matches all toyota silver the cap held up to the body was perfect match but when sprayed it looked right then dryed it was one shade lighter go figure the one thing here the supply shops won't sell to non body shop customers i would have used my new spray guns and bought a quart even with the new waterborne stuff ?????
but they wont sell the new stuff to just anyone i can't figure out why????
+rock dawg i now think that the white primer sealer may have been the problem i should of use the gray primer instead
