Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 15 OLED UX582 Review and Compare to UX581

- The refresh of already wild dual screen laptop Zenbook Duo. Is it any better than the last one?
In my world, less is often better. Often manufacturers want to combine too many features into one device and often, along the way, they lose the identity of the initial device that they were working on....

I own this and love it; I own the 15.6 model with the Intel 12700h CPU with a RTX 3060. I purchased a Thunderbolt 4 USB interface with all the missing input ports-it's perfect for mobility. I have a 55 inch OLED in my office that supports 4K@120Hz and take the laptop on the road as needed.
How did you get those specs? 🤯 intel 12th gen with the 15 inch pro duo? Did I miss a release or something?
You can lock the keyboard so your hands do not type in error. Plus you can use the second touch screen as a touchpad as well.
I really wanted to make this comment you beat me to it
You can also turn off touch response in the secondary screen AND keyboard if you plan on using the main screen, the stylus will work, too so you can lay your hand on the whole laptop
what if I need to quickly put a doodle on my main screen, or sign a bunch of docs? I'm just looking at it from practical point and application of it's features. Too lazy too click all the extra buttons just for a doodle.
Great review, thanks! 👍
Thanks for the review.
How refreshing to see a true independent review. I get so tired of watching reviews from people who get products for free in exchange for fake reviews. BTW I totally agree with everything you say about this laptop it's total junk. I only wish I had watched your review before I wasted money buying the ZenBook Duo.
Thank you for the support! This is exactly why I'm spending time doing these reviews!
I don't think it's a fair criticism, you seem to criticize your ex-girlfriend who left you and to fix 100 bad reviews you give a good one and half sarcastic, you're right in many of the negative reviews but you didn't even get to the base of everything positive that it has This laptop, I'm a designer, I've been using it for a year and I'm delighted with this laptop, it has its negative things... yes. but much more positive.
Possibly I did skip a point or two that were too obvious for me. Every product in the market has a niche application, but for some reason some products are great and others are not so. I think this machine turned out to be a swiss knife, nothing wrong with swiss knife, yet, would you rely on it hunting? In my understanding, purely based on it's commercial, Zenbook Duo is made for anyone active in the creative filed. Video making, drawing, designing, you name it. Turns out, videomaking ain't that great on it, better than the first gen 100%!, but not there yet. Some advertised functionality is only available for those using Adobe, what if I don't?
Thank you for the comment, I appreciate a good discussion!
I've got this laptop and think it's awesome
Which one UX582 or UX581?
Most honest review of this product yet!
I love the keyboard and touch pad. I use them on a regular basis.
I want this laptop!!! Hopefully soon!
they will release the next gen sooner 😜
@@RomanDoes oh great! I couldnt buy one cause they're sold out in stores. Will maybe wait for next gen
If the wrist rest was magnetic and had a slot for the stylus, it would make it badass.
The issue you mention with the display is the coating for the touch display. It can appear to be pixelated if you go very close. But if you sit a normal distance you can't really notice it.
I see it from the normal distance and it gets even worse when you get closer to it. I have other qhd machines with touch displays in my inventory and it's not as visible as here. So I doubt it's that🤔
@@RomanDoes It's the mesh overlay on the screen for touch. It doesn't look great when close, but that's what is causing the grain. It happens on other 4K touch OLEDs too.
Definitely the touch overlay. It's on all Asus oled touch laptops but some are less noticable. I hate it cause it destroys the whole pantone validated claim. White is supposed to be white not textured white/grey
The keyboard can be turned off with a button on the keyboard, so you don't get accidental presses.
Yep, you can. You can also turn off the bottom screen to draw on the main screen and keep it off all the time. Then question is, why have it in the first place? 🤔
I am using this notebook since 30.08.2021. I agree with you. But I would like to add a couple of things.
The cooling is rubbish. If you feel cold in a 22 degrees Celsius office don't even try to use the GeForce video card. I almost always use the Intel card which generates less heat and with Office application I can not keep the CPU temperature under 90 degrees, even if I just edit a word doc.
I am a heavy user. Most of the times I got above 20 programs and MS Teams open with all AVG apps active including VPN. That is why I wanted a powerhouse. I have no time to wait for the technology. I need immediate reaction. Well, I think it is slow, considering the price and the hardware built in. As the processor is warming up , the thermo control keeps slowing down the processor. 😞
The ventilator key can not switch the ventilators to full speed mode. It can select only the Standard and Performance mode. :-( The full speed mode can bee reached only via ProArt Creator hub. IT would need definitely a lot more effective cooling system!
The thunderbolt ports are 3.0 . That time I was expecting 4.0. Unfortunately, I did not get the information before ordering it. So, I faced it afterwards. 😞I didn't even thought ASUS will sell a flagship with outdated technology.
The slots are VERY VERY badly placed as you mentioned. (No idea how ASUS though they can do it.) I use an external OLED 15" display and the cable always disturbs me.
There is no chance to reach dual band RAMs. :-(
Also there is no chance to have RAID on SSDs as there are 1 slots in both cases. It was not an ideal solution that time. :-(
The SSD is Samsung MZVLB1T0HBLR-00000 Write 3000MBps, Read 3500MBps PCIe 3.0. Same issue then the Thunderbolt. I faced afterwards the lack of PCIe 4.0. I was definitely not happy with it. 😞Very much indeed. How ASUS could think it was okay in a flagship!?
I like the main screen. I got no issues with it.
The 2nd screen is very useful in office use. I usually put there MS OneNote and take notes. However, it should rich higher position, at least by 1 - 1.5 cm. It does not lift up enough and sometimes difficult to read. The brightness is always on the top and still not enough! :-(
The touchpad is annoying. I frequently touch it accidentally with the pinky finger and the cursor jumps. Fn+F6 switches it off. That helps.
Like the calculator mode of it. However having the keyboard shifted to the left is not ideal at all.
The quality of the keyboard does not match the price of the notebook. One of my key was falling off after a couple of month and I have seen all the keys are connected to the keyboard with a little plastic bar system. Very fragile. I don't know how ASUS thought it was okay.
So the main hardware is/was there but the cooling is useless above 23 degrees of Celsius. (I live in Spain and in my home there is 25-28 degrees, during summer time even more. It means I can never use this guy at full potential.) The lack of Thunderbolt 4.0, the lack of 2 x PCIe 4.0 slots, the lack of another 2nd RAM slot (dual-channel RAM), the not well positioned USB C slots the 2nd screen low brightness and low position keeps annoying me a lot.... Especially for the price over €4.000! 😞
Instead of the cheap bag you showed in the video I got a leather-like case. Which looks better quality.
I am not happy with this product, but still using it.
i have the biggest question and i can't find the answear, how manu hz does the screen have on this model? 60hz or 120hz?
It's 60hz
Agree with your comments, its got NO SD card nor sim card slot, no USB-c charging and you need a docking station, the duo screen seems to suck people in, but yes best buy another machine which is cheaper and better ports, great review
thank you!
From another review that I watched, I think there is a setting where you can lock the keyboard, so you can rest your wrists on the keyboard while using the stylus on the bottom screen.
Yes you can, but it's an extra step for simple task like that
To tweak something, you have to lock it and the unlock it just to be able to do it
Same goes for bottom screen you can disable it before using stylus on main screen and then turn it on again
@@RomanDoes That's good to know, thanks :)
@@evansmith87 I'm more about practical approach to things. Those extra functions exist on these machines, but many of them remind me situation all of us been to: tied up laces, opening the door and realize you forget something in your bedroom. Nothing major, quick fix, just take off shoes and go get it, but damn how hard that is!! 🤣
A LOT of laptops are screwed up by putting ports right next to the mouse area. That's a huge design flaw.
Did the wrist rest come with the laptop?
Yes it does
does it support charging via usb type C?
No
I own the Zenbook pro duo 14 and I love this laptop. It's a great laptop mainly for students and creators.
What are you creating on it?
@@RomanDoes Memories
@avinashgossai then you are not using it as intended. Any other laptop would do just fine 🙂
The fact you can deduce I'm not using it "as intended" from one simple word is amazing. Thing is I'm the one using it and while any other laptop would do just fine as you say I chose this one. As a student the second display for me is used to throw reference material down there and type my papers on the main display. Video editing for me has been a breeze on this laptop with the controls on the bottom. Again for me this laptop is great.@@RomanDoes
@avinashgossai where is all that attitude coming from? You came to my channel, watched my video, left a comment and when asked a question got all cocky 🤦♂️ keep the attitude at home, that's my advice to you as a student if you want to get anywhere in whatever you are studying 😉
What is the multi core score of this device? Thanks
There are a few regional differences of i9 processors that they use, here is a good article on the tech performance: laptopmedia.com/ca/series/asus-zenbook-pro-duo-15-oled-ux582/
I had this wonderful machine but after 1 week the screen already failed sadly ...
I had hardware issues on the first Gen of these, they seem to have paid more attention to it... could be just bad luck, you can still return and exchange it, right?
What do you think of ergonomics though? Do you use it as is or have separate keyboard?
which model of asus zenbook duo secondary screen touches the main screen?
please help
Not sure what you mean... I don't think they touch at all
@@RomanDoes what I meant to say which asus zenbook duo model when moving the hinge both display touch each other. 7:07 to 7:30 where you talked about heating issue and mentioned last year model
Sorry for my bad English
Which model had these problem ux481 or us482?
Please reply
Thanks in advance
@minazkhan5183 at 7:07 I was talking about overheating due to lower display being attached to the frame without vents on the older model UX581, on UX582 it was improved.
@@RomanDoes Thanks a lot
I need your suggestion
Asus zenbook duo ux482 is all good according to you?
@@minazkhan5183 I say the opposite in the summary section
Key board shifted to left? Really bro? Where will be the num pad on normal keyboard?
Buy one, try typing on it 😉
@@RomanDoes My previous laptop was 15.6" with numpad on it, the layout is exactly the same. I can stack them one on top of the other and it's literally the same. Seems like everyone complaining about a shifted keyboard never knew of the existence of laptops with numpad on them lmao. I guess it's just popular to complain about it when it was never an issue for decades
@@UrdnotAkongo it's primary function is not numpad, it's a trackpad
@@RomanDoes It could be just a blank space, it doesn't matter, that wasn't the point. The point was people reviewing this laptop seem to forget that shifted keyboards exist. 95% of the 17" laptops have numpads on them, which shifts the keyboard to the left. Alienware, XPG, Asus ROG, Xotic, all their top tier gaming laptops have shifted keyboards. Nobody complains about them, because that's just a regular normal keyboard. That's like complaining that water is wet
@@UrdnotAkongo again, look at those full size keyboards and compare with this one. All buttons are shifted to the left. Space, Alt, Ctrl, Shifts, these are the main buttons that are responsible for your hand placement, unless you type with one finger at a time. This is why full size keyboard cannot be compared with the Zenbook Duo. Also, since it's a laptop, it cannot be blank, you need the trackpad.
Thanks a lot for your valuable and clear assesstment. It has been very helpful to me to not buy this laptop. :-)
Glad I could help!
There’s a new one since

@@project_blackeclipse it's common sense most of the time, those imposters have very stupid way of writing comments and their profiles speak for themselves

Turn off the bottom screen - simple
Buy a car and use Uber instead - simple
Disable the keyboard !! If you are trying to use your pen & hands on the screen
Its not a problem !!!
There is a small icon on the second screen to disable the keyboard & to enable it!!!
I think you don't know how to use the icons or menu on the second screen before you do your review or onboxing
Why do you think I don't know about these buttons? Who said it's a problem?
Funny
I might be "old school", but I remember the days when "Full HD" was pointless in a TV less than 32"; fast forward to today, and we have 4K (UHD) on 15" screens. Have you ever wondered if we're trying to get people to spend money on solutions for non-existent problems?
This is what my channel is all about 😀 too many "solutions" out there that nobody needs but wants simply because it looks cool or says so on a paper
What a ridiculous review.
What a ridiculous comment!😂
Would be good if asus made something like when you use touchscreens then the keyboard is automatically locked, the same about bottom screen when the above screen is touched
Maybe even better the keyboard is locked when you take the pen
Exactly! Well, maybe someday they will
