Honestly it's mostly a case of Intel's mobile APUs not performing well on battery life when paired with any DGPU at all. AMD's Ryzen, especially their Ryzen 6000 APUs are Infinitely better at battery life and don't sacrifice much performance to achieve that. Heck, 6800U/6900H SKUs have a GPU that beats the last-generation GTX 1650M included inside it while also allowing the modern rendering features like Ray Tracing.
@@theyoutuber273 It's not even that, Ampere (NVIDIA's latest architecture) is surprisingly efficient despite being on Samsung 8nm, able to keep up with RDNA2 despite being on a far inferior node. We can see that even with the less efficient Ryzen 5000+NVIDIA Laptops like my Strix G17 from ASUS. That thing with a 5800H and a 3070M can break the 6 hour mark in a actively updating task like Google Drive.etc, and can even push near 10hrs when watching video. Heck, it can even push a hour out at 80Ws with the 3070 which is more than what most intel-equipped models can say
The battery life always seems low because so far you've reviewed laptops with a combination of Intel chip + high screen resolution + small battery, such as ZenBook 14x, Pro 14 Duo, Surface Studio, etc. ASUS has other models like ZenBook Pro 15 OLED (UM535) with Ryzen chip and enormous 96Wh battery that gets comfortable 10 hours of browsing time all the while having a dGPU and OLED screen. It's just unfortunate manufacturers are not sending premium AMD laptops to tech reviewers.
This is a fair point! I'll try to spend more time with AMD-powered machines as they become available to media (or, barring that, I may buy a few to cover). Thanks for the feedback.
Granted it isn't an OLED display, but my Asus ROG G14 has a Ryzen 9 6900hs and a dGPU only has a 76wh battery and that thing gets 10+hours of browsing time. It doesn't even take a huge battery, Intel is just not efficient compared to the competition

It's not the screens, it's that Intel chip. All 12th gen H series Intel laptops last 5 hours or less with huge batteries while the same laptop but with a Ryzen CPU that performs the same on battery and still plenty powerful lasts 8+ hours.
The screens don't help. They are still the highest power drawing component, especially high resolution and OLED ones (when showing anything but black with white being a massive power hog). But yes, Intel's recent chips aren't great power efficiency wise.
Thanks Michael. I love the evolution of this device. I struggle to see how the hardware problems can be fixed with the design. And if you love the design and usage case then the minor issues won't matter. You don't get two touch screens on a Mac.
Absolutely love this laptop design! I'm someone that loves the extra real estate section screen and the 'cutting edge' outside the box airflow implementation. I would definitely forgive the shortcomings and sometimes go out of my way to implement 3rd party gadgets to visualise my 'perfect system'... So asus has me covered in this - although I am a bit of an AMD fan girl of sorts...
I'm the same way, honestly. In another life where I don't need to edit video all the time, I picture myself owning this machine and tweaking it to perfection (with a battery pack in tow).

You mention awkward keyboard set up, shifted to the front. For me it's a great solution in combination with RollerMouse Mobile, which with other laptops doesn't work so well due to regular trackpad standing (laying?) in the way for comfortable reach for a keyboard. The dual touch screen idea is great for productivity and comfort. What I like most about such kinds of design is variety of ways of input user may utilize.

There's really a certain appeal to these laptops from Asus. Combines the utilitarian and content creator in mind, but somewhat falls short on some essential elements that a regular user needs to have. I'm currently testing and reviewing the smallest Vivobook Pro model, the Asus Vivobook Pro 14 OLED with Intel Core i5 and the Intel Iris Xe graphics. And I gotta say, I quite have some the same sentiments of yours. I am inspired also to get some pointers from this video inside my review video for it. I didn't think it looked that awkward to use the second screen as a mouse pad. It's all about muscle memory, once you get used to it it would probably have a lot of advantages over a regular trackpad.
It's bigger, for sure - only problem is there's nowhere to rest your wrist when using it (because the keyboard is right under you). It's nice to have the option but I think most folks will probably have more luck with a wireless mouse.
Great review! Did you find that the key bumps on the F and J letters left marks on the screen after a while? I found that there were marks on the main screen on the last two versions of this laptop because the key bumps were rubbing against it.

As someone who's never owned a laptop. Keys seem perfect. Will be using as desktop replacement. So weight battery life, is no issue. The stylus no mount no problem. Ever hear of Velcro?

I’m still using the zenbook that was released in 2017. i7, 16gb ram, amoled touch display, thing is just amazing even today. Been thinking of upgrading, but I really hate how a laptop is being comprised to the point you can’t easily use it on your lap anymore. I have to ask, does that second screen really help more than it hurts? Even running my business I’ve never needed dual screens
I recently purchased a new dell Inspiron 13.3 inch laptop. It’s webcam was supposedly 1080p, but in reality it was considerably worse than the webcam on my daily driver: a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. With that in mind, the camera on this ASUS zen book looks amazing!
It's great but in the same chassis you can get more performance and more endurance from the Asus Zephyrus Duo 16 that launched ig at the CES 2022 and it also packs the graphics power that you may require to play flight simulator on it with ease and no stutter also they made the main display touch enabled as well like the second display it's like a Zenbook Pro Duo with extra horsepower pls review that as well

yes, as the verge pointed out, this is not a laptop for lounging around on the couch for the lack of a palm rest. i dig the star trek animated lcars. if i had one i would also stick a metal comm badge over the starfleet symbol, and bring a usb hub wherever it goes. thanks tony stark for the review video.
My laptop is bloated by mcafee too! Its annoying to see these pop up messages everyday. The worst part is you need to wait a several seconds to make it disappear. What a trash way to attract customer.

Perhaps I am very fortunate but I feel that I have to live with fewer compromises using a Zenbook Duo than I have with any other laptop I have owned (and I have owned around 15 over the years). I only need enough battery life to get us through soundcheck and a 75 minute live set and the last 8 or 9 laptops I've owned have had no problem with that. Having the keyboard at the bottom means it's a doddle to place a MIDI controller keyboard in front of the laptop and still be able to type in relative comfort. I am a little disappointed that the PSU seems to have grown considerably from the one I got with my UX482 (previous gen model) but I am extremely pleased that it is no longer taking up a precious USB-C port, so it's a compromise I am happy to put up with.
@@TheMrMobile all the phone nerds like us first Windows phone. Didn’t have Windows 3? I would freak people out, they couldn’t believe it was a phone. They all thought it was a non-cellular PDA. The keyboard was awful, had to press down extremely hard on the keyboard, battery lasted 2 hours, stylus would fall out of the device, but we were able to send emails with attachments, browse the web, text pictures and videos while talking on the phone. It made the sidekick groupies jealous. Was an awesome time for tech.

I feel like this would be perfect and have many of its battery issues eliminated through the integration of a new Ryzen 6800-series APU - performance per watt for those is excellent, and the RDNA2 graphics are very capable, as showcased on the Steam Deck and other upcoming products. Mobile 12th-gen Intel CPUs and good battery life seem generally incompatible, unfortunately, which is sad, because the performance is excellent.
Dedicated left and right click. - man, thats nice - (even though this should have been a standard before, not gonna buy a new one just for that feature ;) )

Love two screens. That trackpad is dreadful, small and right centered. This is a sweet portable desktop - but not a laptop to me… as a proper mouse would be a must for many and the battery is wee.

Thanks for watching! Please be advised, my Zephyrus review is still forthcoming. While similar in form factor, it's a much different machine for a different use case, so my conclusions here can't be applied to that product.
Still have my Gen1 of this latop, not the promodel, it has an i7 & modest gpu. I find myself using it ~10 hours a day for a little over 2 years. Usually used at home hooked up to a 2nd (1080p) monitor with usb keyboard & mouse. I only use the second (built in) screen when I'm not home. Performance & reliability had been incredible. Battery is meh tbh.. but I'm always close to a power source. The biggest tip I can give is not budget for a power bank but for a high capacity micro SD (512gb / 1TB) cost around $50 - $150 USD which will basically double your storage & prolong the life of the SSD it comes with! Also just to be safe, back up your shit on an external HDD (they are cheap as chips) weekly (or after important work/social updates) it's better to be safe than sorry!

MOBILE All the respect to you, ur videos are stunning. i kinda know this is futile, but i wana ask, this is so out there....a friend of mine had a phone, BACK WHEN PHONES WERE FUN, it was an NEC phone, i think, it had a 180 degrees rotating camera on top, to take selfies or just take normal photos and videos. BUT... he was sneaky, and set the camera at 90 degrees, lay down the phone on the table and take sneaky pics... anyone knows the phone ? and mr Mobile, can u review it ?
I have the 2021 11th gen ZenBook Duo 14 and my only complaint is that it needs the 2nd display to have more tilt which this new one solves. And also the way it digs into your legs underneath (also corrected with this new model by laying flat). Another great review - thanks!
Ideally I'd LOVE to have one of these as my mobile video editing/photoshop device but that price tag and the need to keep it plugged in hurts. Currently my only other option is a cheaper but clunkier choice to carry a second portable screen but at least that's an option. If the lower end model is priced right and can last longer, that would be my option.

When I got the first gen of Zenbook Pro Duo, my biggest mistake was to settle for 16gb RAM, so if you decide to get one make sure to get the one with high enough RAM, because it's soldered. Other than that it has been my main machine for 2+ years now and I don't even touch my Threadripper workstation I'm this satisfied with it (aside from occasionally running out of RAM when doing heavy work)

Yeah, Intel's H-SKU's on laptops have never been very good on battery.

Me, I want this laptop but Asus will not give a date yet and I'm losing patience lol
Perhaps I am very fortunate but I feel that I have to live with fewer compromises using a Zenbook Duo than I have with any other laptop I have owned (and I have owned around 15 over the years). I only need enough battery life to get us through soundcheck and a 75 minute live set and the last 8 or 9 laptops I've owned have had no problem with that. Having the keyboard at the bottom means it's a doddle to place a MIDI controller keyboard in front of the laptop and still be able to type in relative comfort. I am a little disappointed that the PSU seems to have grown considerably from the one I got with my UX482 (previous gen model) but I am extremely pleased that it is no longer taking up a precious USB-C port, so it's a compromise I am happy to put up with.
Does the stylus use MPP or wacom technology? If the former a surface pen slim would work. Great vid as always!

@@TheMrMobile all the phone nerds like us first Windows phone. Didn’t have Windows 3? I would freak people out, they couldn’t believe it was a phone. They all thought it was a non-cellular PDA. The keyboard was awful, had to press down extremely hard on the keyboard, battery lasted 2 hours, stylus would fall out of the device, but we were able to send emails with attachments, browse the web, text pictures and videos while talking on the phone. It made the sidekick groupies jealous. Was an awesome time for tech.

I feel like this would be perfect and have many of its battery issues eliminated through the integration of a new Ryzen 6800-series APU - performance per watt for those is excellent, and the RDNA2 graphics are very capable, as showcased on the Steam Deck and other upcoming products.
Mobile 12th-gen Intel CPUs and good battery life seem generally incompatible, unfortunately, which is sad, because the performance is excellent.

Love two screens. That trackpad is dreadful, small and right centered. This is a sweet portable desktop - but not a laptop to me… as a proper mouse would be a must for many and the battery is wee.

Thanks for watching! Please be advised, my Zephyrus review is still forthcoming. While similar in form factor, it's a much different machine for a different use case, so my conclusions here can't be applied to that product.
Still have my Gen1 of this latop, not the promodel, it has an i7 & modest gpu.
I find myself using it ~10 hours a day for a little over 2 years. Usually used at home hooked up to a 2nd (1080p) monitor with usb keyboard & mouse.
I only use the second (built in) screen when I'm not home.
Performance & reliability had been incredible.
Battery is meh tbh.. but I'm always close to a power source.
The biggest tip I can give is not budget for a power bank but for a high capacity micro SD (512gb / 1TB) cost around $50 - $150 USD which will basically double your storage & prolong the life of the SSD it comes with!
Also just to be safe, back up your shit on an external HDD (they are cheap as chips) weekly (or after important work/social updates) it's better to be safe than sorry!

i kinda know this is futile, but i wana ask, this is so out there....a friend of mine had a phone, BACK WHEN PHONES WERE FUN, it was an NEC phone, i think, it had a 180 degrees rotating camera on top, to take selfies or just take normal photos and videos.
BUT...
he was sneaky, and set the camera at 90 degrees, lay down the phone on the table and take sneaky pics...

I have the 2021 11th gen ZenBook Duo 14 and my only complaint is that it needs the 2nd display to have more tilt which this new one solves. And also the way it digs into your legs underneath (also corrected with this new model by laying flat). Another great review - thanks!

My next laptop. Just need to save up for it.
Ideally I'd LOVE to have one of these as my mobile video editing/photoshop device but that price tag and the need to keep it plugged in hurts. Currently my only other option is a cheaper but clunkier choice to carry a second portable screen but at least that's an option. If the lower end model is priced right and can last longer, that would be my option.
Man I'd love to have this thing, if only I used windows for something more than gaming.

@@hoobidibahbidibah8119 Sadly I don't have this unit for a long-term review period. Hinge feels very sturdy, though; I think the only way to damage it would be to accidentally close it over a cable or something (as UltraBookReview mentions in their coverage).

When I got the first gen of Zenbook Pro Duo, my biggest mistake was to settle for 16gb RAM, so if you decide to get one make sure to get the one with high enough RAM, because it's soldered. Other than that it has been my main machine for 2+ years now and I don't even touch my Threadripper workstation I'm this satisfied with it (aside from occasionally running out of RAM when doing heavy work)
