I only posted this video because it was too long to send to my uncle in Germany haha, never expected anyone else to see it. Wiring diagram was a little tricky, getting all the sensors in the car happy, and working properly was a pain but im not wiring guru and honestly don’t really even know how to read a proper wiring diagram from the ford manual, but I was able to figure everything out by looking at where the wires were going to, and using a voltmeter to determine functionality. So the car is using all stock wiring from the 2018, all the sensors/airbags/ plugs/power windows/power locks/ cameras etc were just made to work with the 66 mustang body

Congratulations for actually pulling it off! Looks great! I’ve watched a couple other similar swaps and wonder if it wouldn’t be easier to put a ladder style frame (with modern suspension/brakes) under the ‘65 and then drop in the 5.0.
Those Stang restomod are my favorite and when the algorithm suggests, I'm in. On YT many have tried very few have finished. This one is actually great even though not my color of choice. vTuned channel right now is actually trying something close to what you are saying. Bust since you mentioned, I've always wonder if just making the old front, back and sides fit to the new Stang wouldn't be better with less fabrication than fitting the entire old shell in one piece with a bolt on widebody that looks usually Frankenstein-ish. This one is looking fine as hell though. Kudos to whomever worked on it.

Haha believe it or not, to get the body welded on and the panels all bolted up only took about 2 months doing this on the side between work and school, but it was the body work, wiring and all the other little details that took forever

I’ve seen a number of these swap and so much time spent on making them wide bodies with flares. Just putting this out there. Wouldn’t it look better if you put 10” in the center of the car? I know that’s a lot of work but it sure would look better.
My favorite car is the hoonicorn and I absolutely love the look of the widebody on the hoonicorn, so I tried my best to replicate it. To me I’d prefer a widebodied car over stock, but to each their own, thanks for the comment

I think if I was ever to do this which I probably won't. I would literally split the car in half and widen the entire car so I didn't have to run flares on it.😜

I’ve completed alot more work since uploading this video to finish up the details of the car. And sorry I don’t work on cars for money, just for fun. I do this on the sides as a hobby

I’ve put the car on air suspension, and I’ve also made custom side skirts and changed the look of the side pipes and front spoiler so now I can drop the car all the way to the ground
Truth be told it wasn’t too tough to do, just a lot of finishing work to get everything to fit properly and look normal, but anything is possible! You got this!

Sorry for the late response, but that's a good question, maybe the body from ring brothers might fit better! But i couldn't imagine the work needed if something was off because i definitely had to do a lot of metal work to get the gaps and alignment right, and with carbon fiber, oooooo laawdddd, can't imagine the level of work needed
Everything looks great, except I can't imagine how you screwed up the side scoops so bad. That nice crisp line running down the door to the top of the scoop should have been continued along the top of the scoop, instead of running into a obvious glob of Bondo. Pay no attention to people complaining about the paint. There is much to be said for a single stage, non metallic paint job. Especially for a street driven car. Repairs are easy and it gives it a sinister look. And the blue ain't bad either.
Hello, car is actually painted in base / clear Porsche riviera blue with color changing metallic flakes. I appreciate the kind words, did my best with the scoops but i wasn’t looking for any lines, more of an airplane-esk smooth scoop. It also helped with lining up the door with the quarter panel, and scoop with the new rocker panel

Yeah finding a set of wheels for the car was extremely tough, had to go with an extreme offset and width to match the widebody, clear the calipers, not interfere with air suspension etc.

@@jackdaniels2657 my background is in bio genetics in humans, and zoo animals. Getting my phd zoology and environmental science and policy. Honestly the wiring stuff took a while. I don’t really have a background in body work, metal work, wiring or anything car related at all haha. But I love learning new stuff and honestly much of came from trial and error. I made artwork for a living for a few year and still make artwork for fun. I went from doing just drawings, to paintings, to huge murals, to wood sculptures using a chainsaw, to working on an old 67 mustang as my first car. I learned some minor mechanical stuff on the mustang. Then got the bug for working on classic cars. I then got a 69 Camaro I did pretty much a rotisserie build of and swapped an ls motor and 6 speed manual in. I then was into car, and art and so I mixed the two and started making furniture out of car parts like making engine tables, couches made out of classic truck front ends ( I think I have a UA-cam video on that too) and just random stuff that involved wiring and welding. I took up a part time job at my friends body shop to learn body work for 3 months and he let me stay nights to work on my own mustangs body work so I was really fortunate for that. But as for wiring I really just had to teach myself through trial and error. I would turn the turn signals on in the 2018 mustang then go to the front of the car and test every wire and plug until I found the wires for the turn signals, and I did that for every single plug and wire in the car and hooked up all the wires / plugs/ sensors of the 2018 mustang to the 66 mustang. After I learned body work a bit I watched a ton of videos of people making molds of parts using fiberglass and carbon fiber and foam, and I just recently made interior trim for the car, I finished off the dash in leather, made a front spoiler, new side skirts, an engine bag cover, trunk enclosure etc mixing everything I learned from wood craft and body work. So I just really like to learn new stuff no matter what it is, and I try and mix and match what I know to try new stuff out, and honestly it doesn’t go smooth at first most of the time haha. Usually it’s a ton of trials and errors and I have to fail 3-4-5 times before I get it right. But how I always just see it is I can pay a specialist 3-4-5 times more than what it would cost me to buy all the materials and try and do it myself, so why not just try and do it myself. And with that mindset I’ve fortunately been able to tackle the whole car on my own, everything except for actually laying down the paint because I didn’t have a paint booth at home. But besides that I get stuck on stuff of frequently and sometimes I have to take a step back and work on other stuff for a few days, try some other stuff out and an idea will to come finally on how to tackle the harder stuff I’m not too familiar with. I appreciate all the kinds words tho man!
I like me my classics too, but this is now one of my daily drivers, and to have the heart of the 2018 but the looks of the 66, it definitely makes it a joy to drive, but hey I definitely love me my old classics and keeping some of them totally original
I hadn’t put the windshield in 100% at that time in the video, I actually just was did that so I could drive it arojnd until I got the new windshield trim in and the urethane adhesive
It was tough decision to pick color, if i were to go back in time I might’ve chosen a different color, but it really is extremely bright and eye catching in person, camera doesn’t do it much justice, but yeah the newer mustangs are incredibly wide!
By the time they finished this thing,.... the old Mustang was pretty much done and gone,... you can't take the present,... and capture the past,.... just ends up being a cobble job,.... guy's get a "A+++++" for effert though,... a lot of work..........
Wasn’t looking to have much of the 66 there besides the body. I love classics but, for reliability and comfort, I tried to mix both the looks of the old and the tech from the new. I appreciate the words though

You’re so right, you see right through my thomaz. When i started this build, I did it with the intention of doing things the easy way! I went with the fender flares in an attempt to match the hoonicorn which is my dream car. Fortunately it was easier! Haha

@@jackdaniels2657 my background is in bio genetics in humans, and zoo animals. Getting my phd zoology and environmental science and policy. Honestly the wiring stuff took a while. I don’t really have a background in body work, metal work, wiring or anything car related at all haha. But I love learning new stuff and honestly much of came from trial and error. I made artwork for a living for a few year and still make artwork for fun. I went from doing just drawings, to paintings, to huge murals, to wood sculptures using a chainsaw, to working on an old 67 mustang as my first car. I learned some minor mechanical stuff on the mustang. Then got the bug for working on classic cars. I then got a 69 Camaro I did pretty much a rotisserie build of and swapped an ls motor and 6 speed manual in. I then was into car, and art and so I mixed the two and started making furniture out of car parts like making engine tables, couches made out of classic truck front ends ( I think I have a UA-cam video on that too) and just random stuff that involved wiring and welding. I took up a part time job at my friends body shop to learn body work for 3 months and he let me stay nights to work on my own mustangs body work so I was really fortunate for that. But as for wiring I really just had to teach myself through trial and error. I would turn the turn signals on in the 2018 mustang then go to the front of the car and test every wire and plug until I found the wires for the turn signals, and I did that for every single plug and wire in the car and hooked up all the wires / plugs/ sensors of the 2018 mustang to the 66 mustang. After I learned body work a bit I watched a ton of videos of people making molds of parts using fiberglass and carbon fiber and foam, and I just recently made interior trim for the car, I finished off the dash in leather, made a front spoiler, new side skirts, an engine bag cover, trunk enclosure etc mixing everything I learned from wood craft and body work. So I just really like to learn new stuff no matter what it is, and I try and mix and match what I know to try new stuff out, and honestly it doesn’t go smooth at first most of the time haha. Usually it’s a ton of trials and errors and I have to fail 3-4-5 times before I get it right. But how I always just see it is I can pay a specialist 3-4-5 times more than what it would cost me to buy all the materials and try and do it myself, so why not just try and do it myself. And with that mindset I’ve fortunately been able to tackle the whole car on my own, everything except for actually laying down the paint because I didn’t have a paint booth at home. But besides that I get stuck on stuff of frequently and sometimes I have to take a step back and work on other stuff for a few days, try some other stuff out and an idea will to come finally on how to tackle the harder stuff I’m not too familiar with. I appreciate all the kinds words tho man!

Not sure, biggest thing to not is the track width and wheelbase measurements.
If your happy with it. But not my cup of tea. Mustang is my favorite classic and I love them original.
I like me my classics too, but this is now one of my daily drivers, and to have the heart of the 2018 but the looks of the 66, it definitely makes it a joy to drive, but hey I definitely love me my old classics and keeping some of them totally original

I hadn’t put the windshield in 100% at that time in the video, I actually just was did that so I could drive it arojnd until I got the new windshield trim in and the urethane adhesive

Not a fan of the blue, but (sadly) it's not my car...
It was tough decision to pick color, if i were to go back in time I might’ve chosen a different color, but it really is extremely bright and eye catching in person, camera doesn’t do it much justice, but yeah the newer mustangs are incredibly wide!
By the time they finished this thing,.... the old Mustang was pretty much done and gone,... you can't take the present,... and capture the past,.... just ends up being a cobble job,.... guy's get a "A+++++" for effert though,... a lot of work..........
Wasn’t looking to have much of the 66 there besides the body. I love classics but, for reliability and comfort, I tried to mix both the looks of the old and the tech from the new. I appreciate the words though

You’re so right, you see right through my thomaz. When i started this build, I did it with the intention of doing things the easy way! I went with the fender flares in an attempt to match the hoonicorn which is my dream car. Fortunately it was easier! Haha

I like your effort but not a fan of flares. Most newer mustangs are wider. Flares and wide body makes them sporty no nonger classic.
It was either that or have it look like the average hicks truck in the south. Would have way too much track width
@@sav22rem22 yup , had to do add the flares otherwise I’d have needed like 6” wide rims with tires from a VW beetle
Thanks for the kind words! I actually built the car with the excitement of using the flares, my dream car is the hoonicorn and I tried to build it as close to that as I could! But to each their own, I get your point in it being more sporty than classic for sure.
