This brought back memories. I used to own a '72 240Z. I was performing a complete resto/mod with my daughter, who was 15 at the time. It was going to be her car. I had parts for a high compression beast using a 280 block, 240 head, and the crank from a Nissan Maxima. 11 to 1 if I recall correctly, using factory parts... I'd previously installed a factory air system from a 74 260Z. I was down to the frame and suspension, ready to take it to bead blast. Alas, my daughter discovered boys, and the project languished...
Send me the car
@@judahbenhur7982 Lol... long gone. My daughter is 40 now...
Story time. I’m currently in the process of restomodding a 78 280z and just discovered the joys of girls (for the first time at 18 held off for a while) and instead of ditching the car in favor of her I just hooked her on cars as well and now I have help. It’s a win win
@@jazzyjonny1449 It is a rare woman that can get into that side of cars. Sounds like a good one. Treat her right, and never compromise on your passions in life for the sake of a woman. A woman will respect you more for staying true to yourself. Good luck with the Resto mod. I Loved Z cars
@@jazzyjonny1449 I’m a mobile locksmith. I was hired to rekey a home about 2 months ago and was told I can have anything in the home and garage. Initially I said no. Then the owner says there’s a car in the garage I can have. He peeled back the tarps. And it was a complete 1978 280z only missing the Datsun emblem on the back. Obviously it needs work. But zero dents and even the key to for free. It hasn’t been registered since 1992. I’m deciding what to do with it. Not sure how much it will cost me to make it an awesome ride for me and my wife
I don't think I'd call this a restoration. You effectively built a new car from damn near scratch XD
Bless you for loving old cars SOOOO much!!
I am Japanese.
Thank you for fixing my Japanese car clean.
I appreciate it!
Thank you for caring about cars
what do you feel about nukes
You've basically built a car from scratch with your patience, skills and knowledge. I'm touched
This is insane, no way you cannot appreciate the level of work and dedication this guy put into this.
Meanwhile I stress about how to install a tie rod for about a week without the proper tools, this guy over here tears apart and rebuilds the car like its childs play.
Great work
super work...you saved what would most restorers call beyond saving....because it is alot of work....
another life was written for this one....
They call it "beyond saving" not only because of a lot of work. Non-factory welding in such amount and spots make it dangerous to drive on roads. It can fall apart in minor car accident and become dust in a high speed accident. That is why such cars better to stay static
Alexis 200SX True, it can be very dangerous if done incorrectly, but if you’re a good enough welder it can be just as strong as it was 50 years ago when it rolled off the factory floor. Most restorers are decent welders, I mean they’d have to be, but they tend to do a lot more grinding than welding as patches on body panels have to look good more than much anything else. The fact that this guy has confidence enough in his welding to patch that much rust on the chassis shows (to me at least) that he’s been doing this for a very good while.
Didn't you know that a well done weld is stronger than the parts is welded to?
I loved this video. My passion and job was to restore 240z's to get through eight years of college. I completed 76 total restorations( not to this extent) but beautiful nonetheless from 1976 to 1983. Basicly new paint, bodywork,
and interior with whatever mechanical was needed. I sold all of them for $4000.00, which was more than they cost new. Never had to dicker on the price because they were so perfect, better than factory, they'd be worth $25-$30k today. Miss those days!
A ton of work, but restoring an important piece of automotive history is priceless. I'm certain many loved watching this and appreciate your hard work & effort to bring this great car back from the dead. Incredible job!
You Sir have talent, expertise, and experience in massive abundance! Beautiful work!
I’m glad it wasn’t the power point slide type video 😭
So you’ve seen our rally car build video..... ua-cam.com/video/nEb6Z5v_J7E/v-deo.html
Hahahaha I hate those videos, the type of video you’ve done in this video is so satisfying
Aha. Same with me.
Lol... it felt like it went on forever. I love these sort of videos but wow that was boring. And the music designed for 13 year old girls didn't help... but GREAT restoration and beautiful car. Very well done.

I just loved seeing old cars restored so that they can continue to be enjoyed in the future. Thank you.
This just poped up in my feed. As an older retired guy. I worked on these when they were new at a Datsun dealership in the US. Helped a friend 20 years ago with the carbs on his 240. Learned the SU style sidedrafts working on the BMC line of cars in the late 60's. Well done!
patience, determination, talent, money, passion.. great job.wacthing from philippines.
That is some serious work you put in there! Great job! :-)
♥ 240Z ♥ is one of the most beautiful cars ever made and you nailed it with the blue color.
For a lot of years patch panels were just not available for '60-70's cars and a lot of these cars just went to the crusher. Thank goodness for the renewed interest in such vehicles that has brought about the manufacture of said pieces.
To answer some of the more common questions, the car is now finished, check out the video of the completed car and the first drive. The music is by Moog from Mighty Car Mods and is used in accordance with their usage policy. The only donor part from another car is the RH rear quarter panel, all other repair panels are either reproduction parts or fabricated from scratch and the donor car parts helped save at least two other cars. The car is being rebuilt to standard specs from almost all original parts apart from the brakes where I have used upgraded items. It’s a Sunday driver so doesn’t need a V8 or an RBDETT. The colour is the original colour this car left the factory in (903 Blue), it’s also quite rare in Australia. The silver car in the video is my Tarmac Rally 240z, check out the other videos in my channel for the build video of that car and some in car footage from recent events. For more, visit our website at rally240.racing.
Thanks for answering questions. Beautiful job. I'm looking foreword to seeing it in all its glory. No rally numbers for this one I hope.
Great restoration work. I love the color you chose, too.
Amazing car didn't rust away as rust protection wasn't done back then.
Here's another question for you...what happened at 1:43 when the car magically turned into a restaurant reception?
Hi i like too much restoring tings of all kinds :D
i think you make a great work with a several hours on it
you make a lot of panales as you said
the only think i could say to do it is to spray a antigravel on the underside of the chais
the corrsion is a big proiblem as you have solved
very grat cars at your garaje
and nice work of restoration!!!! :D
I am speechless. PHENOMENAL work! Thank you for saving a beautiful classic.
its rare to find a video like this with music in the background thats not generic ear cancer. thumbs up!!!!!
Chapeau l'artiste. Je suis émerveillé de voir un travail si bien fini et de voir qu'une nouvelle vie s'offre à cette voiture mythique.
Bravo Monsieur.
I think you did a pretty outstanding job and have more patience than I. I did the exact same restore on my 71, but was fortunate that the only metal I had to replace was both floor pans. I am 98% finished and it has taken me almost 4 years and $53,000 later. Trying to find NOS parts is next to impossible and when you do find them, the prices are outrageous. Mine is the exact same color as yours with front and rear spoilers and back window louver is in black.
Some of us know you are restoring a part of history. Great work!
GREAT JOB! I restored one of these 25 years ago for a friend and it was lots and lots of rust work! He always said, "on a quiet night you could hear it rust!"
That was great. Having owned 2, 1972 240's. That car is by far my favorite. One had a 4 speed, the other an automatic with a/c. One Red, One Bonsai yellow. I've owned 77 cars in my life. Hot rods, V8's etc.. This car was the best all round performer and way fun to drive. I'm sure you're enjoying yourself in that beautiful girl you brought back to life. Yippee!
I had a 73 240 orange loved it sold it and still regret it to this day. 😢
Dude...this was a beastly undertaking!!! Katayama-san must be winking at you from the grave.
This brings a tear to my I. I owned one of these when I was 20 back in 84, it was a rotted out junker….but when you're 20 it might as well be a Ferrari just the same. The body snapped right under the fire wall as they pretty much all do and well I didn't have the skills to fix it so.... Anyway it's always been my favorite old car so it's nice to see these old girls get a second chance to feel the wind on their headlights once again. Good on ya bud...peace :)
I totally empathize with you. When I was 20 (and my '70 for that matter) I sent it to the scrap yard; floors rusted out, door hinge failing and stabilizer bar broken from the frame rail. Wish I could get it back as it was a very early one HLS30 01030 production date 1/70.
@@bartscanland9415 ......Indeed buddy. Now there are all sorts of aftermarket parts for it and yours in particular would be have been worth a fortune had you been able to fix it up. How were we to know though right :) Cheers
I have a 1978 280Z in really good condition. It just need minor work. This is a masterpiece. You got mad skills. Imagine if the youth today had a mentor like yourself. They would not have energy or time to get into trouble. Pass on this skill set. Do not take it to heaven with you...
Thank you for preserving history. I have so much respect for you.
Impressive build my friend. It looks amazing and worth every minute.
I can see so clearly now how incredibly beneficial a rotisserie stand is when doing something like this!!!!!!
BossaNossa1 No kidding. Night and day from working on your back and climbing through the car.
To me that was my focus of the video haha yes the car is amazing but damn is that convenient.
That was phenomenal.. Really enjoyed watching it and can't even imagine the amount of work that went into it. Thank you so much for posting..
I’m only twelve at the moment but I’ve been interested in jdm classics for I while now and I’ve always dreamed of owning and restoring a Datsun so to see you doing this really does inspire me I hope they are still around by the time get the chance to restore one 😁
Maybe put a 2JZ-GTE into it
Ordon Music yessss I’ll try man
What a tremendous amount of work you did ! From what I could see in the beginning, the car was pretty rough and I assume most people would have used it for parts, the work you had to do on the body is insane ! Congrats you really did a great job.
uscar17 I thought the same thing. Huge amount of work to recondition that body. Didn't see bondo being used either.
No he really did it properly, the way it should be done. I bet it took quite a lot of bravery, personnaly I would never have dared tackle something that hard. I really respect that guy, he's got the balls, and the skills
those old datsuns were made with thicc bodies they can stand a bit of cutting and welding
They sure can, but that took quite a lot of will, with such a huge amount of work
Oneofdazzz terrible corrosion control however... insulation was entirely inadequate as well but he did a fantastic job correcting both
Hell you had some work ahead of you there, massive job well done
Thanks for sharing this video. You sir are a master of body work. Pay attention young people, this is how its done!
My 1st car was a Data in 240Z.
I paid $150 for it and it was actually the best car I owned.
I had all types of cars......but I miss the 240Z.
Great restoration job.
Excellent job, great car
Great work and mightycarmods style music made it even better

Well done! My Dad bought a new 1970 510. Really fun car to drive. Always loved the 240's.
most people dont understand the love and effort you put into this. My hats off to you.

great work and music
One of the best cars DATSUN made,a lot of car enthusiast wanted them yesterday and in today's era too!
IMO , the finest sports car ever built. You could not have chose a better color. Amazing work guys!
She's a beauty, You should be proud !!! :D
Awesome mate! Well done!
I would take this car over any modern japanese car. Loved them. Very pure experience.
Came within $100 of buying a 1970 240Z new. The dealer, mind you, was the local International truck dealer in my town of 30,000. Datsun was a new company back then and there were no regular dealers in my area. I had a '69 Nova SS that I had also purchased new. I was so impressed with this new little 6-cylinder sporty car I tried my best to buy one; there was nothing else like it coming into this country, everything being a 4 cylinder.
It's just as well I didn't buy because insurance companies, shortly after these things started being imported, declared this 240Z a sports car and gave it a higher risk insurance rating. If I had bought one, I would have not been able to pay the insurance premiums. I would pretty much be walking, with a new car sitting in the driveway. Sometimes, things work out for the best.
Great work.
Home Built By Jeff bit of inspo hey Jeff? :)
What do you think of the MCM one Jeff?
I kept waiting for Moog or Marty to start narrating, haha. Nice build sir.
これは修理と言うよりも、フルスクラッチで、一から作り上げたと言った方が良いほどの凄いもの。良いもの見せてもらいました。ありがとうございます😊
You are a serious dude, respect to you. Well done, the satisfaction must be huge with you!!
Fantastic restoration, i like the fast motion of video, then it is not so bored, but i dont understand why 201 people gives dislikes, i like your car, your restoration so much. Greets from Germany
Bodo von Falkenhayn ...201 Toyota workers 😊
such a beautiful and timeless design. currently looking for a project of my own, but theres none around where i leave. Great resto.
Liam McKeever Chris from “B is for Build” has a slightly dented one he’s looking to get rid off
Adam Ward yeah I know haha, I love Chris's content.... Been watching since his g35 videos. He's kinda far from where I live, but I know one will pop up near me eventually
Do you live in NY?
Liam McKeever i have an interesting project for you, a 1984 Nissan 720 4x4, its even for sale. Wouldn't be nice to put a z car body on it? Thats what I had in mind for it when I got it. But i inherited a better project, a 65 Chevy c10, i can't do two so the Nissan has to go. It runs and is driveable. It dose have a few minor issues.
ProChargedHD, where do you live?
My dad had one of these in the late 70's. I can still hear his voice the day he brought it home saying 'Sporty looking isn't it?' and agreeing. It was a great looking car in its day. Not as nice as yours though, you did a super job.
dude, I have the honor to drive a 1977 back when I was 17,and man what a car.
This guy is a f** artist
This job has been incredible

日本で生まれた240Zを蘇らせてくれた
貴方の仕事に感動ししました。
本当に有難うございました。
I had a datsun 240 z back in the early ‘90’s. Completely rebuilt it. Was a great car. Had triple Webber’s and 11 1/2 to 1 compression, 5 speed, kyb struts and a 2 1/2 inch sway bar in the front and a 1 1/8 inch in the back. It handled like a dream and screamed. It loved 105 mph. Hummed along and could do it all day. Mine was gun metal grey with a silver rally stripe down the passenger side.
I love the 240, but man do they rust. Good job on the repairs dude!
All that recycled metal has its downfalls - it's cheap to produce but really inferior.
Yea, most of them are almost 50 years old, and were parked in a field for the last 20 years.. That could be a culprit 😃
How come 265 persons do not like this? What's not to like?
Great work btw! 👍
superdaddys69 ... 265 Toyota employees.. 😬
G30 265 Opel GT owners. Upset that they don't have a Z 😁
I don't know. Probably because a lots of rust remaing. 5/10 job
The color was a big disappointment but I still upvoted.
@@opalhaco7862 Yeah and using old rust pitted quarter panels, dog legs and inner fenders instead of buying new. New sheet metal is dirt cheap for s30's there's no excuse.
Always loved these cars, certainly on the list of projects!
Don’t know why, but building or rebuilding cars by yourself seems very therapeutic, like going to the gym
Devil Z is back
- Wangan Midnight-
Beautiful car
You, Sir, are a wizard, and perform magic.
Had you lived during the inquisition, I'm afraid you would have been burned at the stake for witchcraft.
We fellow car nuts and 240Z enthusiasts (I among them - have owned a 1971 240 production date 3/71 and owned since 1976) are very glad you were born when you were.
If I ever win the lottery, I will purchase all my dream cars and hire you to restore them all for me.
Thank you for sharing.
wow.. i had one when i was a teenager. ohhhh. the stories of that car! thx for the memories.
this is not restoration, he just has built a new car !!!!!!!!!!
Soooooo how to you replace all the rotten bits?..floorpan was shot, sills looked shot and the rear quarters were shot. The frameof the car is original and refurbed the running gear..still the same car..
@@PompeyMatt17 pretty sure that was meant to be a compliment

God dam what a beautiful car, I would do unspeakable things for a mint 240
As a guy who's loved to work with his hands his whole 60 year long life this has got to be one of the most satisfying videos I've ever seen. I've never done anything quite this extensive but it's gotta be a great feeling to have accomplished this. If you've got a woman in your life, I hope she "gets" how important it is mate.
Damn good job!
The old 24 ounce looks very smart, good work.

That was some serious saving you did for that car. People like you guys are true magicians - able to take a rusted out, beat up mess and make it into a real gem. Amazing! :-D
when he started it that was the most hilarious reaction. Hes like sounds like trash

I think of it as preserving automotive history. Now everyone can see this work of art as it should be seen.
It was a wonderful job.
Thank you for reviving 240Z again
It was a good job.
My God that car was a total basket case... good job saving it from the crusher
Parabéns! Puto talento, amor e dedicação! Show de bola!!!!
MAGNIFICENT! FWIW I am a Corvair guy, I raced 'Vairs in autocross for about ten years back in the day. I ALWAYS loved the 240Zs because of their looks and performance. I had a friend who owned one, and she let me drive hers (name: Rosanna Danna- that was the SNL thing at the time) and I was SERIOUSLY impressed by the torque and responsiveness of the Japanese Z car. The 240Z had the same rust issues as our 'Vairs, and I'm thrilled to see this dealt with on this video. I think the ultimate transfusion was to install a 280Z motor in the original 240Z (the federal bumpers were HORRENDOUS!). Thank you for this vid, and I hope that Rosanna sees this!
Beautiful car. These cars were popular when I grew up in the
70’s
M y wife has had a '74 260, and two 280s. She loves them but they are hard to find without excessive rust.
Just to help the blind viewers out, the subliminal restaurant scene clip is at about 1:42 - 1:43
