More power to you. I share a scrap yard with my cousin. Nothing official, we both have piles of future projects so to speak. We generally feel free to dip into each others junk piles, but some days I think it would be easier to share a wife. I just asked him to bring me up the pair of portholes I scored a few years ago. Didn't hear from him for 2 days. He responded with a photograph showing he had just permanently installed them!
Oh no...that is the worst. I love old marine hardware. I have one porthole and several brass explosion proof lights. I am just waiting for the right project to use them. Maybe I should hide mine 🤔. Cheers

Many many years ago when Sears was still a place to buy Power tools, they introduced a new line of power tools that took a small plastic key of sorts to operate the power switch. This was accompanied with a marketing campaign about kids getting into the shop unattended and hurting themselves. For whatever reason, Sears Craftsman did not initially offer replacements for these easily broken keys. Yeah you could fashion something that would work, but you would lose it over and over. Back then, retailers typically had a floor model of each machine and box examples for consumers. Those damn plastic keys would disappear off of every tool every single day. They started drilling a hole in the floor model keys and attaching them with a wire. People simply pulled it off the wire, widening the hole. The manager finally figured things out and no longer left keys on display models. If you wanted to try out a particular tool, you had to find a cashier with a stupid little plastic key. At the time I had assumed this whole drama to only be occurring on a regional scale. I read an article years later that taught me this was not the case. This is a rather famous case taught in marketing classes. In lieu of offering replacement keys at any price, consumers simply started buying a second table saw, keeping the key, and returning the machine. The return desk would not typically notice the key being missing, it was in the bag with the instructions. Supposedly, it was 4 years and something like $6 million before Sears put it all together. They started offering replacement keys for $1.50. this was not very long before they went out of business all together. Now Amazon is the behemoth. They got that way with excellent customer service, now they don't even have a contact phone number at all! Returns are extremely convenient. I suspect, and this is partially informed by the status of my purchases, that many people are buying things off of Amazon to take a part off of or to swap their broken item. About 2 months ago, I accidentally scammed Amazon. I had scheduled for UPS to pick up a package for return, they were supposed to knock. There was a padded mailer out front because I was in the yard when it was delivered. The UPS guy took the mailer and Amazon automatically issued a refund. The contents of the envelope was nothing more than instructions for my mortgage company on how to execute a wire transfer. Somehow Amazon's system received this package and decided that yes, this was indeed the pair of sneakers in the wrong size
Lol. I love the sears story. I have not sold my small bandsaw because I am using the key in my big bandsaw. I have accidentally scammed amazon a time or 2. Catharine likes to put my stuff away without telling my. Consequently, I tell amazon my package was not delivered, only to find out later that my item was in my shop. Thanks Jean-Paul. Cheers
I'm never comfortable doing things like that...but u explained that nicely.. that i think id be able to do it... and that's saying a lot..😁 that thing looks like it moves some air very good.. I have one that is on a stand about that size... I think it's a home made job.. it has no on/off switch... ya just plug it into the socket and shes giving you all shes got...lol.. but it thins the air very well... enjoyed it Mr. Joe! I was always taught that when comparing appliances, anything with a rheostat or potentiometer, you should look for the highest power being the first step after zero and greater resistance afterwards. This was supposed to be a sign of quality compared to the other direction. It might just be correlation, but this has seemed true to me. I don't know a lot about wiring, but I do understand basic circuits. I've never understood WHY this was true. Do you have any insight?
My only guess would be to minimize the chance of a burner being left on low and not Off. That's a good question, I wonder what the real reason is. 🤔. Cheers
Most fan motors have a capacitor to give it a boost when first starting up. So starting on max power makes sense because it helps the motor turn quickly at the beginning with enough torque, reducing heat and wear. If it started on low, there wouldn't be enough power to spin on start up. Did you ever turn on a fan and it just buzzed? The power is there but the capacitor has failed in boosting the power into the motor to overcome it's resistance to spinning from a dead stop. That is why some fan rotary switches go 0, 3, 2, 1.

My fan motor has blue red and black wires connected to the switch

Did you figure out the oscillation?
There is a knob that engages and disengages the oscillator drive. Sorry I don't think I got any video of me installing it. Good luck. Cheers

You should get continuity...except in off. The resistance (ohms) will change
