Fun fact... that big white clip above all those wires disconnects the entire unit. I found this out after replacing the light switch. Now I'm working on the fan switch. Thanks for the video, bud. This was helpful.
Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.
THANK YOU for showing how to replace without the attached wires! No one seems to have a video showing that and I've been desperate! This video makes all the difference!
Bravo! This is just what the doctor ordered. Matter of fact, it looks like we have the exact same Hampton Bay ceiling fan. I followed your steps and now have a working ceiling fan with a new switch installed. Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge!!
WOW thank you so much! I have a beautiful ceiling fan that I didn’t want to replace. The lights work but the fan portion stopped working a year ago. I was at Home Depot yesterday looking at ceiling fans when the gentleman working there asked if I needed help. I shared why I was looking at ceiling fans and he suggested that maybe it’s just the fan switch that needs replaced and recommended I Google or You Tube how to replace it. This was so helpful! 🙏 It will be a lot cheaper to try this first. This is the first video I watched. Super helpful! Thank you again
*This fan is everything I wanted in a desk fan and more. It looks great for **Fastly.Cool** my room , it puts out a wonderful amount of air. Is very easy to use.I just keep it plugged in.*
Thanks for all your help and including the switch numbers 1,2,3,L,,, and the colors of wires where they go,, now I will not be guessing the wire colors,, thanks again!!!! Harley Tom
Thank you so very much for posting this video. I knew how to change the fan switch, but when I took it apart, the switch had fell to pieces and I had no idea which wire went to which number/letter. Within 10 seconds you told me everything I needed to know, and I’m so grateful. Thank you very much. Love youtube!
LOL. This is why I use UA-cam! I bought the same replacement switch. I "thought" that the connections had tiny screws in the plate and couldn't get them to turn. And, when I tried to push the wires in, I didn't realize it needed to be pushed in with a little effort. I am so used to screw connections. After watching this video, I felt like an idiot and was able to secure the wires in 2 seconds. The wires all matched except the grey. I had 2 greys. Tried each one separately with no joy. Finally realized the 2 greys at the fan connect to the one grey on the switch, worked fine after that. Good job, good video. Thank you.
Very good information, however there is one thing that I never saw after watching several of these types of videos. I bought a 3 speed double capacitor fan switch at home depot. It went in real easy, and then when I turned on the fan it worked. However, the fan would not turn off, so I figured that it was faulty. Well when I got back to the store and was about to select the same switch, I notice that there was another switch of the same size but I noticed that it said single capacitor. I asked the guy who was in that department and he said more than likely, this would be the switch for your fan. Well he was right, and now it works like new. So be sure to know which capacitor your fan is set up for.
In mine the chain broke off in the switch. I replaced it and now the fan only has Hi and Med. I will NOT shut off. I then replaced the capacitor. Sill the same thing. I'm at wits end. Any advice please....
@@Android_Warrior maybe you can find the manufacturers number of the fan or anything else that would help identify the style/type of fan you have. Call the company that made it,they should be able to tell, I would think.
Nice video but I would have turned the power off before doing any work on this chain switch just to be safe. For me, I have a problem with my job since I lost the paper that had my notes of which colored wire went to which number. I know the black one goes to "L" but not sure about the other three and will have to figure that out somehow.
I usually see the switches with the pig-tail wires that are connected with a wire nut. Yet I asked an electrician friend and he said this is typical for fans! I never saw this type of cheap switch before but it is EXACTLY what was in my Hunter fan - the pull chain broke off so I had to replace it.
Hi. Any chance you have ideas on my problem....Before I changed my switch, the fan would stay on HIGH, so 1, 2 and 3 were all high speed, then the last click was off. Then, after changing the switch, it change to HIGH, MEDIUM, OFF, OFF. What the heck!! So, I changed out the capacitor also and ended up with HIGH, HIGH, OFF, OFF. Could it be that the orange, purple, yellow and black are in the wrong locations? This was a second hand fan. I have not idea what its history is, but its a super cool fan and worth the effort!!
Me too... This is the 2nd switch I've replaced on this fan and was hoping the first switch was just faulty. I'm still having the same issue after my newest install. Only High or Low, no Medium
Take a picture of faulty switch to match colors wit numbers on new switch. I also have medium and high speed with new switch. Absolutely couldn't insert yellow wire, no matter stripping and twisting so I cut it off at connecting black box. Now I don't have lights. Separate issue, I'm sure.
And that pull cord problem is why it's actually a good idea to stop buying cheap pull cords for ceiling fans, and instad add smart remote control access to ceiling fans, so that you can control your ceiling fan's speeds and lights with just your iPhone or Android device, and your voice to Google Home assistant, Alexa Home, etc.
Hello Seth, ensure to strip off about 1/4" insulation and go in at an angle about 30 degrees. I tried to emphasize this on the video. Going in straight will bend and cause frustration. Hope this helps.
Try pushing a paper clip in the holes & wiggle it around, maybe make the hole larger, then try pushing the wires in. U should be able to do it by hand but use small needle nose pliers if you need to.
It be better if you showed us putting the wires in. Cause that's the problem I'm having. How to get the wires in. I know where they go. Just can't get them in.
That is a Hampton Bay Carriage House II. I can see that medium speed is slower than what it was supposed to be, you must have used the wrong chain switch that goes L-1, L-2, L-3. The right one goes L-1, L-2-3, and L-3. The original chain switch is ZING EAR ZE-208S6.
Ahhh, I think that's my problem! I've gotten the wrong switch and the one you referenced looks like the same switch that was removed. Gonna try that instead! Thanx so much!!!
You skipped the most important part. At least you could have explained the insertion of the wires better. That's the part pretty much everyone struggles with. It seems almost impossible to do unless you tin the tip of the wires.

My situation was same as Honey Lea's, was feeling real tenderfooty about putting wires in any ole kind of way. Your video is a game changer THANKS.

Definitely better than the instruction manual on how to do it
Thank you so much my fan pull chain ripped out on me and my room was a hot mess. Thanks for helping this 16 y/o fix a ceiling fan
I think that you did a great job, even while still having it clipped to the fan!!😊
One of the best videos I've seen. Nice job!

Great video! I'm a woman and did it myself ! Very informative thank you!
Thanks! I’m about to do mine, great video!
Thankyou for the video! Very well done.
How did you get the wires in? I can’t get the wires to go in at all or lock on place. It just mashes up the wires when I insert them.
Finally thank you. Everyone else had to give a life story and didn't even show the technical parts. You rock
Thanks alot now my fan is working again👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great detailed video thanks🤟
Great video man, thanks a million.

Thank you for this video. I would have wired my fan switch in the wrong way if it weren't for you.

Bought the same switch replacement, wired it the same. Only have two speeds, high and low no medium speed.

How did you open the old switch?
I broke mine open. The switch didn't work anyway.
Good job thank you for the help
I am having so much trouble 'stabbing' the wire into the switch. Any tips?

Thanks. I luckily and finally got them in going straight through. But I will def take your advice for next time.
We are having trouble pushing the wires in the hole. We stripped the end off first. Any suggestions ?

I could change my grandpa’s myself, this looks easy.

I figured out how.
Do you have a tiny, and I mean tiny screwdriver, insert that to open it then the wires go in easy
Thank u for video

I am sorry but did you strip the wires before you inserted them or did you just push them in
Did u figured it out
Hello, I stripped off a little. Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully you completed the task.
You can't juat switch the chain part the gold part?
nope. not if it snapped off
Outstanding...great..thanks !!..bless you..
Using paper clip helps make room for wire to go in
Where does the hot wire goes to???
Same switch like yours, same colors like yours, make sure all wires were secured to switch and ended up buying a new fan...........
Android Man LOL
Thank you so much.
I just wish you showed yourself inserting the/a wire into the switch.
Got it! Thank you!!
The important part you didn’t do it? How to insert the wires inside pull chains?
One of the most important steps and this guy never shows it. What a waste of time watching this.
He was the cameraman and the person doing the repair. count how many hands you have lol
Not one of these videos tells you about a single capacitor or a double capacitor 3-speed ceiling fan switch!
more video same than this, but easier
But your green clip was already off, we should have watched you remove it, so we dont break it trying to get off.

I have a purple wire 2 blacks and a grey??? Help.
What about the one for the fan with only two wires?
Why are you asking this guy for? His instruction stinks!
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAYBEEEE 💯💯💯✊✊🏼
Thanks Bro
I can't advance my wires into that same replacement part. They bend. I took it back
Its slanted ....doesnt go straight in...it basically slides in sideways (where there is not plastic, go the direction where you see the gold contacts)
Thanks bro!
Awesome thank you
Please come over and fix mine.
Perfect!
Took me for ever to color match cus you said Orange and its red, and i have a red so was confused
Thank you
cool intro
THANK YOU!
You can unplug that whole piece. Easier to. work on.
How?
Matthew Boyle, that big white couple disconnects so you don't have to stand on the step stool and do all that.
No one shows how to disconnect these without breaking it smh
I have a brown no yellow
Don't replace it... spray WD-40 up into the switch
I think this is for when it breaks off inside the mechanism. Not for when it's stuck.
