Excellent, excellent video.. I liked the top down view of everything. I am replacing 2 wire with 3 wire so that light and fan can be controlled separately. This helps tremendously. It seems as though I should be able to do it. I'd call an electrician, except I need this done 4 times.. if I can just learn it once, I can quickly/cheaply replicate it to the 3 other rooms

Someone told me a loud out of a fan (for two ceiling LED light fixtures) is not recommended and I should run independent dedicated wires.
Should I run a separate wire for the light fixture or can I use the fan 14-3 for the load out just like the fan built in light for additional ceiling light that isn’t part of thr fan?

I bought the Lutron combo fan and light dimmer but having some issues. I connected like how you show around the 4:16 mark. However, my line in hot wire is shared with another 3 way light switch that is on another breaker. I can only turn on my fan light with the new combo switch and not the fan. My remote control can turn on thr fan and fan light but the switch can only turn on the fan light. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Fan wired as: fan blue wire to red, fan black wire to black, fan white to white, fan green to copper.

    Amazing video.
Just picked up a fan, used with no wall switch. Figured out I need to order a "2 wire" switch from the supplier.
Looks like there are way more options for 3 wires but unfortunately I have two romex reaching the fan, but only one leg from the switch. Second romex is constant hot. Must have been to give the home owner an option of operating fan from the fan or from the switch.

I’m looking for a video on how to wire a ceiling fan when the power comes from the panel to the ceiling box first and then over to a single pole switch on the wall last. I have only found videos where power comes from the panel to the light switch first and then up to the ceiling. At my in-laws house, in their master bedroom, the power from the panel goes to the ceiling box 1st and then over to the single pole wall switch last. I am not familiar with wiring a ceiling fan in this scenario.

    My situation:
In ceiling fan, brown and white wire come in hot, another goes out to switch hot.
Not labeled., brown is neutral, white is hot.
At the switch, i have 2 black poles on either side and 2 silver on left side.
I hooked up white (hot) to solo right pole.
    Brown to light. Light works.
I fed a black a white wire through ceiling. Black to silver pole, hooked it up to blue which controls my fan.
With the white wire, I dont know where to connect it to at the switch. But i wired it up with the neutrals in the ceiling fan.
Not working. Tried a few different ways.

In the box I have three white wires which are all connected, then I have a switch that has two black wires it is a simple switch one black wire on top and one black wire on the bottom. The black wire which is on top goes to a conglomerate which adds to other black wires. And then of course there are the copper grounds. But I want to hook up is a switch which has four wires the black green ground, red and yellow., In order to separate the fan from the light

What would you do if you were replacing a light with a fan that you would want to use a double switch on but the wire running from the existing light to the box was only a single hot wire not a double hot wire?

    • @61JWolf
      @61JWolf 3 роки тому +1

Unless you can run an additional 2 wire (e.g. 12/2 or 14/2) as shown in his 3rd example @6:30 , you would have to wire the fan motor and light together to the single hot wire coming from the switch and then use the pull chains to control the light and fan independently.

Hello, I am trying to install a ceiling fan/light dimmer. However my load out (to fixture)wire only has three wires. A black wire, white wire, and a ground wire. There is no fourth red wire. So I’m not sure what controls the light and fan motor. What do I do in the situation?
Also, I noticed when I opened up the previous switch that then black wires from the “line in” and “load out” were capped together instead of the white wires. Would this be incorrect or does my neutral wires happen to be black in instead of white.

Not covered is: One combination is where BOTH wires coming into the box are 14-2. Whites wired together, grounds wired together and (with current fan/light switch) the 2 black wires coming off the switch wired individually to the 2 black wires one coming from the breaker box and one going to the fan/light. What then?
    Thanks

Most fans have reverse polarity protection. If you hook it up the wrong way it simply does nothing. They're designed to push air in one direction and the manufacturers have ensured that's the only way they'll work.

1.) You'll have to forgive me I'm a bit of a slow learner. I see a black (hot) coming from the panel and once it reaches the switch you appear to have placed a yellow wirenut around the tip and I assume the other black wire coming out of that wirenut would be tied to the switch itself? I'm other words would your incoming hot simply be connected directly to the switch? (As you say with no pigtails?)
2.) And what would you do if you had a second switch or reciprocal box in the same room? Would you pigtail the incoming hot (from the panel) and send the pigtail further down to the next switch?

I have two hot wires (black) two neutral wires (white) and two copper wires coming from a single ceiling light hole from which a hanging dimmable light once was. I wanted to switch to a flush mount ceiling light which as you know I'm sure only has one black wire one white wire and one copper wire. So I hooked both hot wires from the ceiling to the single black wire on the light fixture and both neutral wires from the ceiling to the single white wire on the light fixture and the copper wire from the light fixture to the green screw on the mount. I put the bulbs in, turn the power back on and the lights stayed on, literally could not turn them off. the dimmable light switch did not work when it worked for the previous light. I hope this makes sense, probably not. I need help, I don't know what to do
