Robin is the definitive 70's Rock Frontman. He seems to effortlessly reproduce his studio vocals live on stage. He plays guitar (Not like Freddie or Mick, no disrespect, but they modeled guitars on stage, Robin's guitar. is actually In the Mix) And he looked like a Rock Star , in a suit or a tshirt
This song is like a whole bunch of classic rock tracks all rolled into one: the guitar riff of the Yardbirds "Psycho Daisies", the stuttering vocal of the Who's "My Generation," the "My baby likes to rock" lyric of Ted Nugent's "Wango Tango," and the histrionics and stop-and-go rhythm of Zeppelin's "Black Dog." If you need an instruction manual on how to write a great rock song, here it is.

I saw them sing this last night in STL! Robin (and the band) still sound as great as ever!!! He's definitely one of the all-time greatest rock singers....I would almost say possibly the MOST underrated singer of all-time, as well.
I remember seeing this in some bar in the Bronx, and my friend and I were ecstatic like two giddy idiots. Still love Robin Zander after all these years -- front men like him don't grow on trees!
robin zander is the best rock singer in history ... I saw him in an LA club with Ratt's singer, Jovi, and Vince Niel. when robin sang they all bowed down to him. He did Highway to Hell
My friend owned a guitar shop and he called me up and said "Come on over to the shop I need your help for awhile". So I walked into the shop and there was Rick Nielsen. My friend started laughing and said "I don't need your help but I knew you would want to meet Rick" It was the best surprise ever as I am a huge Cheap Trick fan. I hung out with them for an hour as Rick looked at and played several guitars. Rick was such a cool guy. My friend Pete sold him several guitars over the years.
I read somewhere that Cheap Trick and AC/DC hung out in the mid 70s, and Rick introduced Bon Scott to Mexican food. I'd love to see Rick and Angus playing on the same stage.
I remember seeing this in college in my dorm with the guys and girls. We knew this was coming on and we had such respect and love for Cheap Trick, we delayed going out just to see them on SNL.
cheap trick is an undertoe of waves...punk,glam,techno,grunge,new age-old age/disco to modern...all waves that splash and crash...the undertoe grabs you ,and rocks you
A rare appearance of Pete Comita. This is wicked. I actually met the original band when Bun E. Carlos was still the drummer. This was way before where you pay to meet bands. They even signed a Budokan photo I had been saving.
I was in the audience for both the rehearsal and the live taping of this SNL broadcast. Cheap Trick was definitely the highlight. That, and the then-unknown Eddie Murphy who came out to warm up the audience before the show started. There were a couple of record executives in line right in front of us, and the new bass player was brought out to meet them, which was pretty cool.
who has time to make lists, I write rock operas on my channel, I wrote Wanton Opera. I saw cheap trick, and the guitarist saw me, I was just standing drinking a beer cause I cant dance, but I like cheap trick
Especially as good as he sounded while singing Live throughout the bands long career. Not the heaviest band by any means, but they know what a good riff and hook is to make it onto radio. Their old tunes still make me freak out just like they did when Ibwas a 10 or 11 year old little punk kid.
😂 I recently watched the UA-cam video of Rick, Robin, and Tom on that Dan Rather interview program. Rick said that they got audiences that other bands didn't, include members of the LGBTQ community. These guys appealed to SO MANY people and musical preferences. 👍🏼🎸

@headshop I'd met CT years ago just after they first got signed. But recently, earlier this summer Bun E. put on a drum clinic at SSE Music in La Crosse (Wisconsin) and I had an opportunity to chat with him and he confirmed that like Ringo Starr, he's actually left handed, but plays right handed and is (for some odd reason) not as proficient playing drums left handed but good enough to 'fake it' in the few videos where he does it. Bun E.'s a total class act. He's good people.

This is such a great performance. Can't wait for the 2nd song to be posted. I am ashamed to admit this but when I first watched this years ago I did not realize that Tom Petersson was out of the band and Pete Comita had replaced him for this show and the tour.
Well don't feel too ashamed. Most of us didn't know at the time. They didn't really make much of an announcement. Tom just quit right before they were scheduled to go on tour. They found Pete on the DL, who was pretty much a Tom lookalike, and then hit the road without any press conferences. By the time anyone even realized Tom had been replaced, they were well into their tour. I remember being pretty puzzled myself because they looked so much alike

Rick had the best stage persona. He portrayed the geek/court jester/goofball - but he was a great guitarist, songwriter and harmony vocalist.
