"Never seen Schrempf as a rookie."
Everybody was a rookie at one point. Except Bird. He was never a rookie, he was a first-year veteran.
LMAAAAAO! love this comment!
He was never a rookie. He simply decided to get paid to do what he does.
DAymn. That was so good. If it wasn't true, It'd be *lunacy*🤡🤡
😂😂😂
Larry came before all those other guys. Kobe-esque? Jordan-esque? Hakeem/Elijah-esque? They're stealing The Legend's moves.
I was waiting for this comment😂
These young dudes compare it the wrong way. They say that Larry plays like Kobe like gtfoh who came 1st
Legendary Bird-esque moves! Lol
Larry could do it all! And involved his teammates - he didn’t hog the ball just to make more points. It was all about the team winning. 🏀👍🏼
Always team goals
Bird actually said he preferred when the defended was giving him tight contact that way he could feel where he was leaning and go the opposite way. You are right, his IQ was off the charts
Yea its actually smart to embrace that physicality as long as you have the skillset to take advantage of it
The rare combination of a complete set of elite skills with unshakable confidence. Didn't matter who was defending him, "just give me the ball and get out of the way!"
The result was winning 3 out of every 4 games played. And in that tough era.
Bird has to be in the GOAT discussion.
There's no discussion
@@gerryrice4848 You're right.
☘️Larry Legend
I appreciate a man who knows his post play.
I always played jn the post and i was a PG/SG
@@BU_TV Love it. Guards that can post cause PROBLEMS for defenses.
Larry's post up game was absolutely unstoppable by any defender, no matter who. Anywhere on the court, close, midrange, or from 20'+, it made no difference. Just another part of the game that Bird was the master of.
One thing that jumps out to me is the physicality of play. They're two steps from full on grappling in some of these sets. I miss that NBA.
Same!
Dumbass Reddick says it isn't true...
The crazy thing is that Larry had the second best post moves on those Celtics teams. Kevin McHale was a contortionist in the low post. I have watched the NBA for over 60 years, and I have never seen anyone who comes close to having the repertoire of moves McHale possessed.
Better than hakeem?
@@BU_TV it's close, but I have to go with McHale. All respect to the Dream tho.
@@BU_TV
Kevin is positively serpentine. Sir Charles says Kevin is the best that he ever played against.
@@irishgrl Right and Bird knew to send the ball in the "black hole" because once McHale got it was going down the wormhole
@@BU_TV 👍
Is there anything that Larry can't do at an incredibly high level? Still the best all around player in my book
Hard to argue agaisnt it
Still the most purely skilled player in league history.
Larry is definitely the most all around NBA player ever. And the stats support it. When Larry ended his career he was the only player in the top 50 in all three categories PPG, RPG, and APG (careerwise, i.e. every NBA season a player has played counts). Since then Larry has dropped out of the top 50 for RPG, but he is still in 62nd place. So, he's in the top 70 in all the three categories PPG, RPG, and APG. And no other player are in the top 150 for all three categories PPG, RPG, and APG. To me that shows that Larry was more all around by far than any other player ever.
@@chyoli6220 *BRILLIANT* 🍻
I'm surprised the video doesn't include the play where Bird is holding Barkley off with just his arm, Barkley leaning into him for all he's worth. Bird spins away and Barkley hits the floor.
One of the clips in this compilation is from a game in which Bird is wearing a back brace. Bird is amazing.
I think you're right about versatility being key for Bird. He presented so many threats -- the pass, the fadeaway, the drive -- that if you honor one threat and guard against it, he has two or three other moves in his pocket to burn you with.
How can ya stop it
Thanks for sharing and seeing Bird's great post play! Many think Bird was just a good shooter but he was the most complete and best all around player I have ever seen. His footwork was superb and he could shoot with either hand and his pump fake looked just like his shot. After Bird would drill the fadaway a few times , the defender had to challenge the pump fake and that would free Bird for an easy basket. If you played his shooting hand ( right) Bird would shoot lefty. Bird's passing was also lethal and he was a rebounding demon. Add to that his work ethic and movement without the ball and you have a player that can blend his skill with any other 4 players and raise the skill level of the whole team. Also Bird could change the arc of his shot while retaining accuracy, and that is a crazy skill. Those high arcing shots over the defense are a thing of beauty.
Wilt said Larry played exactly correct basketball all the time; both Wilt and Russel named him to their top teams alltime. Wilt listed Larry first. (Nieither was allowed to pick himself or the other.) Bill was like "I can't pick HIM" obviously who wouldn't start a team without Wilt.
Best reaction this Bird fan has seen in quite some time, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate ya!!! Ty!
How can any sensible fan not have Larry Bird in his top five?
Welp I had him around 6 or 7 for years. But I have changed my mind and he in my top 5 now
@@BU_TV
Keep watching. I bet he goes to top 3
Chamberlain named Larry as the first person he thought of Russel even though he did name him first, was like Bird, of course. In the 80s Bird was considered correctly as like the Gretsky of Basketball, even greater than Magic at viewing the court, although Magic was about equal at basketball IQ, he wasn't quite as good an offensive player.
I can't be the only one who notices how high of a percentage of his various highlights he's being guarded by all time great defenders most players highlights are mostly against average defenders yet there's still this narrative these days that he's not a top ever and couldn't play today
Its blasphemy
The "narrative" just plain ole lies and or is just plain ole ignorant to the game.
Neither are worthy of one's time for the most part.
It's nice to see someone that understands the game comment on Bird's skillset and IQ.
I don’t see how anybody can look at this greatness, and it doesn’t resonate immediately
I like to watch vids with people who understand basketball. Post play is way more fun to watch than 5 guys, all toeing the 3-pt line. In my opinion, I don't want this to sound wrong, but it doesn't feel like they're competing like the guys in the MJ, Bird, and Magic era.
I agree post play is beautiful. I tried to teach a family member post and how dynamic it can be especially from a passing perspective as long as players are moving
I've seen Larry Bird sign autographs with his LEFT hand which makes me think he is left handed. He just shoots predominately with his right hand. This is why his left handed shots look so clean.
That is crazy lmao. I cant pick my nose with my non dominant hand
As a man who appreciates post play you’ll notice no one can work in tight spaces like Larry Bird.
It's a pleasure to watch a reaction video and have someone knowledgeable talk about the nuances of Bird. You added a lot to the video.
Hey appreciate the compliment and thanks for popping in
Appreciate your commentary. Bird made it look easy, but it’s not. complete an elite player.
So many greats out there. Your analysis is very high end.
Im trying to learn but thank you!
Loved your reaction! Thank you.
Thank you too!
What can he not do??? Not another player in bball ,ever, had Birds repertoire.
You’re watching a guy that won the NBA championship and when the owner called him the next day to congratulate him he was outside practicing. That’s Bird. That’s dedication to a team. That’s the love of the game.
Bird was a complete offensive player. He could post you, one on one, fade away or pivot up and under or drive to the basket. He could shoot straight up jump shots anywhere from the basket to the 3 pt line. He could get boards and put it back up. And if he saw an opening, he could spin your head with a laser like pass. No weaknesses.
no lies there
He was a thing of beauty to watch. My favorite.
2 comments, the Bird, McHale, Parish front line was dominant with post play. And, the best part of watching the mid 80's NBA was the high level of play across 76'ers, Celtics and Lakers. All 3 of those teams featured multiple HOF players. Whether your team won or lost a game, you saw a tremendous game.
arguably the best front line ever
@@BU_TV Especially when you included Maxwell with McHale as the Havlicek-type sixth man, OR later in 86 when they got final great season from Bill Walton, which gave the Celtics 18 quality fouls from Chief, McHale and Walton against Hakeem and Sampson in the finals, before bringing in Kite to hack Hakeem.
Loved the reaction 🙂👍
I like that you add info and have to go back to see things again. I do the same.
I love the respect you show for Larry Legend. 👏
Likewise King!
There could be an entire highlight reel of just Bird playing off Walton with the ball on the elbow. Two masters of the craft.
You aint wrong
Bird had SWAG!
Larry makes sure he gets those fouls. That’s wisdom.
Bird was unbelievable 😳
one of a kind
Larry blows minds. He always did. He always will. They called him Larry Legend for many good reasons. He's a legend but he'd probably rather be dead than call himself that.
Spot on!
I keep saying LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN AND THE TRUE GOAT 🐐 ☘️
If he’s not at least in your top 3, you aren’t paying attention.
ETHER!
I don’t think most people know this but Bird is a natural lefty. He signs autographs and writes with his left hand but played sports as a righty. I think that obviously helped his ability to shoot with either hand. That’s why his left was as deadly as his right around the basket, I imagine that sure helped. I was in high school during his MVP run and I tried to emulate his moves around the basket he was something else in the post impossible to guard
Im totally not a sports fan, but Bird is my all time fav, even have a jersey, he transcends sports with his integrity and character. Love Larry Legend!!!!
Come on Legend!
Exactly brother, exactly.
And RIP Tommy Heinsohn. His commentary was wonderful.
Would’ve love to hear him broadcast with regularity real time
@@BU_TV he was constantly ragging on the refs, yelling how much he thought the calls were crap. (And getting away with it.) LoL He’s definitely missed by the fans.
@@michelleo8499 thats amazing😭😭
It's great we have UA-cam so everyone could see what we were watching in those days. All these videos of Bird and the other great players in that Era pretty much speak for itself the greatness of this ball player. You can see how much tougher the defenses were back then, too. My top 5 team is Kareem, Jordan, Bird, Magic, and Kobe..
Still amazes me the parity back then. So many games came down to the final seconds. It was so exciting.
It's nice to see someone that is obviously intelligent about the game react to Bird highlights! Keep the reactions coming! Much love and respect 🤙
Thanks for the compliment! Bird is a joy to watch and critique! Love watching skilled players
Bird was just unstoppable. Younger folks don't have a clue.
A beast to say the least
Loved watching Larry Legend back in the day. He was the complete player.
His pump fakes... are the reason why they were so many people that were part of the parachute club! LOL. Bird not having any holes in his game ...is why he's Larry Legend!
Parachute club lmao
His game was so mfkn clean! 🫧
With extra scrub
Glad to see another Bird fan.
Whenever I bring up Larry bird, in a discussion, I get eye rolls
@@BU_TV
If it’s any consolation, ALL the greats have Larry in their starting lineup.
Great video reaction. I recall an interview in which Bird referred to Kevin McHale as “the blackhole” and I bet half of Bird’s assist came from feeding Kevin the ball in the low post.
I love the fact that every male reactor makes a comment about the short shorts. FYI: We ladies loved the short shorts!!!!!
I bet yall did lmaaao!
I don't watch too much of the NBA these days but I have noticed... when I have watched here in there.... how many players have copied Birds moves! Bird def worked to perfect getting around a double team after the NCAA championship game! Another thing I noticed is Bird doesn't do very many rim shots... a lot of his shots are all net! Definitely knew how to use his height as an advantage and the way he held the ball when he did certain shots...there was just no blocking those! Lol This is totally off topic but I wonder how many guys were Thrilled to get longer shorts to play in! LOL
The truth is you can not stop Bird. It's just up to him if he gonna make the shot or miss it.
Facts
Another sick thing is when Bird was feeling saucy, a lotta times he’d tell his defenders exactly the move he was going to pull on them before he even got down to the offensive end of the court.
Best SF of all time
I agree
I learned a new (old) taunt today! (Ate yer lunch AND yer twinkies!)
I love Birds post moves, he was so creative, as good as Kevin I think! (If not as good he’s so close as to give Kevin a run for his money!)
Lmaaaao
Hes the GOAT!
Hey BU!! So happy I found your channel!! You have a great perspective on the game and desire to learn!! I've got another awesome video for you that I just found!!
Hall of famer Larry Bird aka Basketball Jesus greatest highlights 🙌
You'll see the Lakers greats, Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Jordan, Pippin and more getting owned by Larry Legend.
It will blow your mind!! Thanks dude.
Bird was slow, but that smart 1st step was quick, almost always perfectly placed, and created space. Bird was deadly in space. Intelligence filling that speed gap.
All facts
Geat vid Great color commentary. I like it
In college Bird was as good with his left hand as his right. The summer before he joined the Celtics he broke a knuckle in his left hand. Celtics were concerned he wouldn’t be able to play at an elite level however Red Auerbach watched during an evaluation practice and said he looked alright to him. Bird said he never regained the touch for the ball he had before the injury. Kind of frightening to think he had a better touch. And I agree Larry was 6’10 or Magic was 6’8 although they were both officially listed as 6’9.
First time I saw post highlights video👍
I can appreciate someone that appreciates post play
Never been a better off balance shooter EVER falling back falling sideways falling forward and any kind of twisting shot
Kiss that glass Larry
Great reaction. Check out old school lesson from Larry Bird.
I'll bet Larry intentionally (probably secretly) kept the game close so he could win it with the final shot.
Afterall, In order to be a superhero, you should look like one every chance you get.
Larry's master wizardry makes him singled out. Stand alone *"GOAT"*
You need to look up McHale highlights for post moves
Oh, added to the list. Thank you so much.
And the thing is, all of his shots either from the inside or out to the 3, pressed hard or a clean step back, all the shots hits nothing but nylon.
Swish!
Most of these moves show Larry wasn't slow. He was quick. no he wasn't an elite jumper, but he had other athletic skills like foot and hand quickness.
Thats all you need
@@BU_TV
Bobby Knight said Larry had the BEST hand eye coordination of any NBA player EVER.
It's tiring to always hear how slow he was. You're right, he was quick, he never telegraphed anything and apparently he was fast as he needed to be
Everybody down there \/ would make a great detective team. They've got Larry ironed down the the micron.🤣
Ask Shawn Kemp how Larry schools rookies. And the Nets Jason Williams (PF....not the PG).
😄
Lmao i gotcha
If Larry Bird was so slow and couldn’t jump how did he beat so many great players in this video. He had burst of speed with great footwork that left players holding their jockstraps. People don’t give him enough credit for this along with his defense. Well let’s just state the obvious, a lot of people don’t give him credit for his abilities and his basketball IQ.
Larry would be getting called just for talking in todays league. Now take away the contact Bird becomes a very deadly weapon on he court, considering the three pointer was viewed back in the day as a gimmick.
Dude was like it’a Kobe’s move but who did it first a hundred times…:. MJ and Larry before MJ did it
4:15 you
know dr j
was covering
him, right?
Didnt even catch that! Ty
@16:49 Laimbeer cleans the floor with his butt.
Bird thinks a lot of Dominique too.
Imagine if Larry was big, fast and could jump.
Just know that he writes left handed, that's all you need to know as to why he's such a prolific scorer left handed.
Nobody guarding larry? Riddick is nuts
Have you seen the game where Larry play 3 quarters lefthanded?
The infamous left handed game on everything except long jumpers?
just because BIRD didnt go nuts on scoring like they do in todays game people dont put bird as the greatest shooter (that he is) name one player today that could shoot like that under the same hard play he shoot under??? now a days if you touch the player its a foul
Hed be eating at the line today
He beat them all!
Love you boo man but what about Kevin McHale at the number four
He would torch atlanta
Watching magic shoot free throws is hilarious he wasn’t the worst but you can see the uncertainty every shot unlike Larry and a guaranteed 2 points
This video also showed why Rodman is still salty.
Mr. Ambidextrous.
Left or right doesn’t matter
Ask jorden how good he is
If you believe Larry ain’t on the top for top ever player you are delusional. I’m a MJ all time fan but I’m also Bad Boys are my all time team
McHale had better moves inside.
Really 100X mroe athletic? Nah, you are exaggerating.
Never watching you again if you can’t see history
Im so confused! But if you choose to never watch me again I want to say thank you for supporting anyway and I wish you the best and hope you find someone thats more your style.
WTF THAT MEAN?
