Is Bird the greatest? Probably. Is he my favorite? Definitely.
Larry was the best player ever, I don't care what anyone says.
Even if we agree? ;-)
I never ever get tired of watching Larry Bird, my TRUE GOAT!
irishgrl How can you get tired of watching this genius??? Literally the greatest player without any raw athleticism
@@artofversatility6141
And what does athletics have to do with it?
What really matters is skill.
Larry Bird was a basketball genius and that was enough.
@@capitanfuturo594 You know we’re on the same page right? I love Larry that’s why I made the video despite his lack of athleticism!
@@artofversatility6141
That narrative is a myth imo. Larry was PLENTY athletic. He didn’t jump real high for flashy dunks but his dunks were respectable & he out rebounded other greats regularly. He was also plenty quick until his back bothered him, and even then he STILL embarrassed other players !
Personally I think Larry benefitted by being labeled “unathletic” bcuz he surprised a LOT of ppl on the court. Nobody expected anything out of him.
@@irishgrl his rebounding really was from his great instance and other worldly hands, and he embarrassed players because he was always a step ahead. I wouldn’t call him quick but he was deceptively quick. But I love Larry
Thank you for posting this! A great display of Bird's versatility = bank shots, left handed shots, 3 point shots, fade away jumpers and yes a few dunks! Look at the defense Larry played = steals and blocked shots and diving after a loose ball in an all star game. He was always hustling out there and made some great passes and made it look easy feeding the post and any player that was open = even a pass to Laimbeer! His tip rebound-pass to Gervin is a classic display of his court vision. Add to that his size and rebounding tenacity and desire to win, for me he was the best all around player I have ever seen. His skills displayed a true dedication to the game and remember he is playing in these games against the best players in the world.
To me the craziest part of about Larry Bird in the All Star games is that he really didn’t do anything special, he took a step back and filled in the gaps.
@@artofversatility6141. Even IF your statement were true - do you think that doing that on an all-star team isn't doing something SPECIAL??
I LOVED watching the video but I don't understand why you state things the way you do in your comments. smh 🤷🏻♀️
@@cindyknudson2715 I literally love what he does during all star games. My favorite player to watch today Nikola Jokic does the same thing and I have no problem with it. Clearly you misunderstood the point I was trying get across. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing that especially if you true goal is to win championships like Larry’s was. It’s the gamesmanship that I’m in awe of.
@@artofversatility6141 I think I have a better understanding now of what you were trying to communicate.
These highlights never get old. Good stuff.
10:50 Defining moment alert!! Bird passing to Laimbeer proves that Larry would do ANYTHING for a victory ;)
😂😂😂 Obsessed with winning
Larry Bird was the best all-around player in NBA history.
The best basketball player in America.
The only thing Larry is missing is athleticism, if he was half as athletic as bron or MJ he’d be the goat.
@@artofversatility6141 Disagree completely.
@@artofversatility6141 In my opinion too much value is placed on the ability to leap. It's not gymnastics or track and field.
If the point is to, as a team, and within the rules, get the ball through the hoop for more points than the opposing team, then leaping ability is just one of many talents or skills that players might use to achieve the goal. One might use his legs, another might use his brain.
@@Jondsmusic Why?
@@cindyknudson2715 Clearly Larry is a great player without a great leaping ability but he’s not consider a goat. Sometimes he’s left off peoples top 10. If he could jump he’d be remembered like a Jordan or Bron. Also that’s was no slight to Larry
What a fun video! Seeing Larry dishing to Dr J and Micheal was awesome! I love watching this era of basketball, it's the best! So many legends. Moses Malone, Hakeem, Kareem, Jordan, Isiah, Magic, Bird, etc etc etc.
Thanks i wanted it to be a fun watch despite the length.
Did anyone notice the 3 pt. Off the glass bucket Bird did. He does get bored..Then when he inbound the ball to Laimbeer i laughed. Laimbeer said; thanks for not throwing the ball at my head Larry..
LOL! He would have deserved that! Proves that Larry was only interested in winning.
In the '86 ASG you can tell Bird's trying to play it a bit left-handed, sinking a handful of very purposeful left handed hooks.
Dude was unconscious
THANKS FOR THIS awesome video..I have been waiting for a long time for Larry Bird all star game highlights
No problem
What a video! Thank you for that. Larry literally does everything to make the team better.
I loved LL's comment: ~It's Dr J's last All Star game so we're gonna be getting the ball to him a lot.~
So much respect.
What a great video to show the young kids. So easy to work with Larry.
Agreed! Larry can do what you need him to and he didn’t mind taking a back seat in all star games
It is unfortunate that Larry Bird being chosen could not attend the All Stars games in 1991 and 1992 due to injuries.
I have nothing bad to say about the 90s but the 80s was just plain loaded with talent.
Also, you get the idea Bird would have won championships with the Sixers, too.
I have been a Celtics fan since 1980
12:20 this reverse left-handed layup should be part of Bird's Top Plays, but I've never seen it until now.
Glad this video showed you something new!
15:05. BAM! Is that Bird too?
2:00 First ever 3 pointer in an ASG.
How could you not included that 1980 touch pass at the end of the game.
Great upload! Thanks
Larry is the ultimate TEAM player. From year to year you see him PASS first. I don’t know any other great who does that.
@16:40 begins one of the funniest baskets I’ve ever seen! Kevin omg 😆
Kmac hilarious for that
Sooo true. In fact in one of the layups, I think he looks left and right as he heads for the easy bucket for someone to pass it off to but there's no one else coming down the court with him. I love watching his style of play. He adds to the players around him while being totally confident in himself.
1985 ASG was when Adrian Dantley cheap-shotted Bird and almost broke his beak. Looked like Bird was eating Dantley up.
Yes, I watched that 85 all star game and the blood was literally flowing out of Bird's nose. They could not get his nose to stop bleeding and the East coach had to call a timeout to get Bird out of the game - he was willing to keep playing. Then you could see Bird on the bench with an ice pack on the back of his neck and they used a bucket to catch the blood still dripping out.
Great stuff!
Thank you
Thanks for watching
14:40 did Larry just say "and one"
😂😂😂yup
15:05 BAM! 😲 Is that Bird too?
Great Great player no doubt ....absolute killer .Possibly the the most intelligent player of all time .But Michael's ...Playoff and finals stats are Galaxy class ....hes so far ahead of everyone else its ridiculous. Prime Bird though was Awesome .
16:40 McHale with the presence of mind in a close game - in an ASG! - to hold the ball and drain another second off the clock on the easy cherry pick.
I don’t think that people realize how smart Kmac or the Boston Celtics were.
Who's coming in 2nd tonight?
I think Larry and Dr J rather enjoyed playing together.
Birds got a beautiful outside shot, I mean it is beautiful, different than Michael's but just as good as Michael's, Michael Jordan of course
Agreed
Where is the behind the backboard shot in the 85 all star game? It’s almost as good as his regular season behind the backboard shot
I edited this two years ago but if it didn’t count I probably didn’t add it.
It doesn't include when Bird got his nose and mouth in the way of Dantley's elbow, either. 1985, I think, in the 4th quarter.
@artofversatility6141 Great video, by the way. I love when Bird picks Kareem's pocket, so to speak.
But he has no defense...
