I feel you man, but WRONG! (my intention is to have a discussion)
Think of any emotion as a filter over your intentions.
Fear filters in, only intentions that suggest living the situation or moving away from considering a situation (like a task).
It rises because your experience with a previous similar situation was a painful one. simple. (you kinda said to yourself "i don't want to be in this situation again", and so you use 'fear' as the filter for future events)
The thing is, sometime using 'fear' is good for you, and sometime it is not.
Depending on the situation you are afraid of, if you want to enter it, you are trying to correct your learned approach to the situation, meaning,
you need to figure out measures of pain, and maybe limit the 'category' of the situation that should raise fear, by understanding the differences between your current situation and the one that you experienced before. That's the best way, but there are more ways:
1. get support into the situation, and relive forcefully (while in fear) the
situation while experiencing success, and re-gaining confidence.
2. practice in a similar, but less fear triggering situation.
