Greg Hammond thats what i do. I have a Street & Steel Westwood jacket, black as night with only a single reflective piping across the back on my shoulders. So i took my yellow vest from my tool box & threw it in my ride bag for night riding.
That is what I am planning to do. I don't ride anything yet but I plan to. I don't mind looking like a dork because I am planning to ride a scooter which perhaps already looks dorky so might as well go all in.
I got the Klim Badlands Jacket and pants 4 years ago. I dont wear it in summer in Florida but after it cools down I love my Badlands. I feel so much safer and it is rainproof and loaded with armor. Worth every penny if it keeps me out of the emergency room.
I love all the explanation and reviews of the gear you offer, it's really practical and informative. By any chance, have you a take on women's available gear? The all I've seen on internet it's just "how good you'll look on it" but I would like to know more about safety... thanks for all the great videos :)
just got the Klim Badlands, i'm a 6xl in everyone else's jacket, in the Klim i'm a 3xl, and its loose. I've only worn it twice so far, 1 time in 8 deg C. and 1 time in 32 deg C. day/ evening rides, both times the Gortex kept me cool with 2 rear vents open (its hard to explain how it breaths, but when you warm up, it lets heat out, then when you cool down the heat increases ? some how), and i was warm with all vents shut, yes its heavy to take off and on, but once it's on, kidney belt on (or forgotten to put on) it's so well built the jacket weight disappears... being brand new also i was expecting it to be stiff, it fits me like a Glove straight out of the box, and i love it.
Not gonna lie, that first Klim jacket actually looks really slick! I'm a younger guy and I would hands down rock that jacket. Plus I do like the high visibility.
Hi Ryan, I found and subscribed to your channel last night, and I have to say. You have taught me so much about gear. I'm 19 and just now getting into motorcycles. I plan to buy me a Kawasaki Ninja 300 within the next couple of years. I plan to keep watching your videos to help me find the best starting gear too. Thank you so much for what you are doing, and I hope to keep seeing great videos.
"im a big believer in visibility" says the guy that rides around in a camo jacket and black pants! XD im only teasing. as always, your content is superb!
I got the Icon Hypersport Prime because I wanted to get leather and good protection for as cheap as possible. Comes with a back protector too. The large fits me well except it's slightly looser than I'd like in the elbows.
On that Alpine jacket you showed 2nd there the white is very reflective. You can see it in the vid. Your lights are reflecting off it really well for a youtube video.
Thanks RyanF9. While none of these jackets appealed to me, I really, really appreciated the tips at the end. I wish I knew that info before but good to know for next time.
I can't believe you didn't include Helite Airbag jackets in this review. These are clearly the new standard and although Fortnine.ca may not yet carry them (which is in itself odd since you have many $1200+ options) you could have informed your viewers about the safety benefit afforded by air. Afterall, it won't be long before they are required by law, at least in Quebec.
Must be all that free health care you guys get in Canada, in the rest of the world doctors bills are expensive , way more than an airbag jacket, the air bag techs are actually affordable for what you get, I’m more waiting for them to refine them a bit more, i don’t think the neck protection is good enough, you would have to buy a seperate neck air bag to be covered. There the future once they refine it in 5-10 years they will be mandatory.
SuperJohn12354 lol I'm the farthest from Canada you can get in the continental US. Add to that as a New Yorker (even if I'm currently in Florida) I hate Canada.
I wear the Helite leather air bag jacket. It cost me $850. Alot less than the alpine stars jacket. It's excellent! I'd like to see Ryan review it. As an. EMT I really think more people should wear this tech!
@@SuperJohn12354 I think, the rest of the world is just the USA, in the other countrys, which are rich enough to buy an Alpinestars tech air, universial healthcare is the norm.
I usually wear a high viz airbag vest over my jacket and put the back pad in the vest. That way if I stop somewhere and take the vest off I don't have to deal, with the back pad but I can still have my cool looking jacket on.
Woah. The Klim Induction isn't super safe? Now I don't feel so bad about it going out of stock the day I wanted to order it and had to settle for another.
right now i am in middle school and planing on when i am turning 17 year old to get a 125cc moped. I bet my mom will start watching FortNine videos and look for the most protective gear to give me during testing and everday rides

I need the safest possible mesh jacket that also looks good. My research so far points to Alpinestars TGP Air Pro as a good option. What's your opinion about that jacket's safety? I've already ended up wasting money on the Icon Stryker rig that you crash tested a while ago... so this time I better be right :D
Hey Ryan, I have an icon airmada but it's starting to feel very heavy and hurts my neck when I ride. I've been shopping around and I've been looking at the HJC cl-17 and the fg-17. Could you possibly do a review on these and a crash test on them. I also want a snell approved if I ever want to go to a track day. Thanks!
Is D3O safer than CE with hard armor? I have a jacket that has CE rated armor with a hard covering: would I be better served upgrading to D3O? Or is this just a comfort trade-off? Thx! Great reviews! For riding dual-sport are you better off wearing something like the Fox Titan or a mesh jack with D30?

For me the perfect jacket should be made of leather, with good protection, no hump because I need to wear a backpack and also waterproof, but with all that it could keep you fresh in the summer with proper ventilation, and also, be under 250 €.

Hey Ryan really love your vids man! i would like to know your opinion on the Fieldsheer Deuce Perforated Leather Jacket, seems like an overall good jacket.
Hey Ryan, while an emergency identity card is in theory a great idea and a good selling point, most paramedics are not trained to look for it on the riders gear. You kinda need to be a riding emt to even know such a thing exists.... That being said the same applies to emergency quick pull tabs on helmets. Good marketing but not as practical as you would hope. Keep up the good work mate 👍
Adam Efrat As a former paramedic I agree with this - it is getting better but still lacking in training with regards to this in many parts of the EMS world. Hopefully as we continue to spread awareness it gets better!
Well the problem is that it's not consistent... not all jackets have the info on the same place for example so its impossible to incorporate it into standardized training. Were you once at BCAS ?
Adam Efrat agreed with that as well but it IS a part (or rather a lack of the part I should say) of the training too - I am not directing this to BCAS/JI specifically but rather as a generalization for many EMS training courses ✌
I need a new Jacket, problem with mine is its cheap materials so its itchy and annoying and i guess highly distractive to wear but it also lacks adjustment so all the padding movies to area's like my lower arm rather then my elbow or the back of my shoulder instead of the top/side. Guess thats what $150 gets you.
Ryan which one is thes safest motorcycle jacket with velcro and padded and also we can insert new pads on it for people who frequently falls from motor. And link please
We need a 2019 version

Greetings from the 856, Mile zero on the Alaska HWY
Adam Efrat What a small world! ✌✌ Stay safe 👌
Please make this list for 2019.
After hitting a deer and sliding down the road.. I am very motivated to buy better riding gear..
Hey bud, I like your videos. I was wondering if you have had a chance to check out the Klim Kodiak.
Ryan which one is thes safest motorcycle jacket with velcro and padded and also we can insert new pads on it for people who frequently falls from motor. And link please
Nice work Ryan!
Anyway you could get ahold of a 2016 badlands jacket in black and grey in XL? Like the look of this jacket and cant find it anywhere. Thanks!
Thank you. This is something useful!
I feel like I know something about gear now. My mind isn't clouded up full of zillafog. :)
But........no mention of an Aerostitch jacket?
