      @JLDReactions 4 роки тому

      @@ourkeving I love Buffy, but I do not understand why people like this episode. I honestly think Angel did this episode better. The loan-shark, shark demon was definitely a jumping the shark moment. It felt like a step backwards for the show as whole, but I honestly just didn't like season 6 overall.

    • @Theomite
      @Theomite 4 роки тому +2

      @@JLDReactions It's a filler episode but it's a damned entertaining one. It beats a "random monster of the week" storyline with little import and the fact that the Loan Shark is a joke in and of itself is practically calling out that trend in the series. It's pure character work for its own sake which is probably something the actors were starving to do by that point. I think both they and the audience like the idea of taking these characters and putting them in a different context and seeing what comes out of it.

    "I must be a good guy, on a mission to redemption, I help the helpless"
    This is a reference to Angel!! Angel's slogan on the show Angel is "We help the helpless" and the entire show Angel is about the path to redemption.

      Epiphany I get it. I hated Angel on "Buffy" and couldn't understand how they gave the character his own show. But trust me, Angel's so much cooler on his own show. Plus, Cordelia and Wesley and Faith and freaking Spike as a main character!! Faith has a redemption storyline on "Angel" and if you haven't seen that, season 7 of "Buffy" won't make much sense to you (when Faith comes back). She and Buffy basically talk it out on "Angel". And don't you want to know what happens after the "Buffy" finale? 'Cuz they talk about it on "Angel" and there's one entire episode dedicated to one of the new Slayers. If you're a hardcore fan, don't you want to know about these things??

    Months or more after this episode originally aired, I was in a bookstore and out of nowhere I began to feel really, really sad. Like my eyes were getting watery and I was trying to actually not cry. I couldn't figure out what was bothering me at first, then I realized it was a song the store was playing as background music. When I got home, I looked it up and it was "Goodbye to You" by Michelle Branch... the song that was playing when Tara left Willow. That was when I truly understood just how powerful music can be.

    Awesome reaction again! "Randy Giles. Why not just call me Horny Giles or Desperate For A Shag Giles! I knew there was a reason I hated you!"
    "A Vampire with a soul? How lame is that!"
    This has often been called the funniest sad episode and the saddest funny episode in Buffy. With heart breaking end song :'(
    Willow controlling Tara's memories (Tara's comment about Glory invading her mind!!) and wanting to make Buffy forget heaven is scary, and really fucked up. Absolutely no sense of boundaries and consent! Argh! Really freaks me out at times.

    "This Buffy came back wrong/different"
    It's called depression :). Being in heaven and being pulled back to this world where she's spent the past 4 years of her life fighting her way out of life or death situations and losing her mother and so much else to boot, it took its toll on her. It's a very realistic path to take her down and I for one adored it. It takes a long time for her to claw her way back from that.

    This Episode is both one of the funniest and one of the most heartbreaking all at the same time. Love it, and love Tara and can completely understand why she decides to walk away. She needs Willow to understand that the magic she is messing with isn't a game. But sadly Willow still has a way to fall yet before she hits 'Rack Bottom'...

    I guess this explains the Spike is like a son to me line in Restless now, doesn't it? :P
    Of course Buffy would name herself after Joan of Arc , a famous martyr who died for the sins of others. Of course. Its just so fitting. Also kind of hilarious that even without memories Buffy still keeps saving Spike and that without her memories she finds Angel silly.
    And yeah Buffy acts differently, but then again its VERY in line with how she acted after she died the first time, at the start of season 2. Except worse. Its all the same problems stemming from the same place. Not to mention her behavior has been getting darker and more depressed through the entire show so far.

  • @bellatronics
    @bellatronics 6 років тому +20

    The way you say Randy and Joan is adorable :) - as are they! There's been a ton of fanfic written about Randy and Joan , i.e the spell lasts much longer.
    I've always been fascinated at how Spike behaves when he loses his memory. He doesn't realise he's a vampire - so feels no bloodlust? Can't sense he is/has a demon? It's both hilarious and fascinating that he assumes he's a good guy ( vamp with a soul, lol) - but another depiction of Spike's odd nature as a vampire. If he were just 'evil' without a soul, wouldn't he just revert to feral bloodlust , without his memories shouldn't the demon take over?
    I think it's just more evidence that it's Council of Wankers propaganda to say that the demon just inhabits the dead body and there's nothing of the person left. And that it doesn't just apply to Spike - exhibit 2 being Harmony :) - she's really not that good at being evil, and is basically the same as her human self :)

    • @MrLorenzovanmatterho
      @MrLorenzovanmatterho 6 років тому +1

      There are various explanations as to why some vamps are more human than others, personally I always bought the idea that Dru's link to the PTBs as a seer meant she and those she sired stay very human. But they are still evil.
      I must say I was a big time fanficcer and I've never read any on Randy and Joan? Plenty on Joan and Giles (Guffy will never die, the whole show is basically an ephebophile's wet dream) or Willow and Tara thinking they're the sisters and Joan and Dawn deciding they're the lovers.

    • @rfresa
      @rfresa 2 роки тому +1

      My interpretation is that the demon in the vampire knows what it is as soon as it's sired, but forgetting spells like this one affect the demon memory as well as the human, so the vampire forgets what it is, and doesn't have the urge to feed right away. The same thing happens twice in Angel: once when Angel thinks he's a teenager, and again when the old man switches bodies with him. In the latter case, he ate food and acted like a normal guy until he was up close to Lilah's neck and vampire instinct took over.

    • @bellatronics
      @bellatronics 2 роки тому

      @@rfresa That’s an interesting idea.
      I quite like the idea that the demon lost its memory too!
      I still think it’s part of the evidence in the show that a vampire is still the human they were but with demon added and soul gone. The soul being the conscience as many Buffy fans have postulated rather than the ‘essence’ or personality of the person. And that they are not empty shells with only a demon inside. Convenient Council propaganda to make it black and white for the slayers staking vamps.
      I mean because the blood lust, hunger and instinct to hunt should still be there.
      Instinct being different from memories of your life/unlife.
      It is there after a little while with the old man.
      With Angel as a teenager , I need to watch the episode again. I think once he realises that he is a vamp it is there a bit. But then is tempered straight away by the fact that he has a soul, which keeps his blood lust under some control.
      I say some because I think a lot of Angel’s control of his blood lust is very conscious thing he does!
      So yeah that one makes sense to me that Angel having lost his memories thinks he’s a teenager in the 1700s again, and does not realise he is a vamp/demon at first because his soul is dampening his demon’s urges.

    Tabula Rasa has always been one of my favorite episodes, but watching you react to it has made it even better, if that's possible. Sure, it would be awesome if you were able to react to every episode but regardless, every episode you react to is a gift as far as I'm concerned. I'll take whatever I can get when it comes to Buffy, especially when you're the one reacting to it. I've watched/listened to so many Buffy reactions over the years and you are without a doubt the best of the best. I'm hating the fact that we're so close to the end, unless you react to the Joss-approved comics but that's just a pipe dream for me. I'm only on Season 9 of the comics because I'm trying to stretch them out so I have at least 2 seasons to go. Luckily Buffy is one of those shows I can watch over and over and still find something new to love each time I watch. Except The Body. I've only watched The Body once because it hits too close to home, I lost my Mom a few years ago then lost my Dad the following year, and the only difference was I found my Dad on the floor instead of the couch. They did an excellent job of portraying all the little things we have to go through when we are left to deal with everything and that's enough about death, sorry.
    I'm happy to know you'll be reacting to Angel, and if there's any way you squeeze Dollhouse into your busy schedule, I think you will not be disappointed, it's only 2 seasons but it was cool to see so many Joss actors in the show.
    Ok, shutting up now after this one thing, thank you so much for what you do, I don't know if you realize how much joy you bring to strangers. I've been having a really tough week and you are completely responsible for making everything good again just by making these videos. You are the absolute best!

    This season is by FAR the most CW. That is meant in both the best AND the worst versions of what the CW stands for. And this episode lays the groundwork for SOOOOO much of what is to come.
    All right, got that off my chest. I LOVE this episode for what it IS as well. The "connections" that aren't quite on point. The "tabula rasa" characters that stay true to the ones we've come to know and love. The heartbreak of Tara and Willow. And if you go back a "few" episodes, take another look at the Season 4 Finale: Restless and check out the outfits Giles and Spike are wearing while they're on the swing set. BRILLIANCE!

      Peter LaCara Danger of him not having a soul, mixed with Buffy at peace, more then imaginable, then taken away to have the world literally placed back on her shoulders and all the pain that goes with it. Willow drove me crazy this season. I just wanted to take her by the shoulders and shake her!
    On another note I think one of the reasons Hook and Emma worked on OUAT is that they reminded people of Spike and Buffy(if things had gone better).

    • @MyFeuerFrey
      @MyFeuerFrey 6 років тому +2

      Yeah, a lot of shows try to recapture that star-crossed lovers kind of feel of Buffy and Spike and fail because they don't the dynamic quite right. The whole point of why it works here is because they are equal very flawed forces - its a relationship where both push back and both change and develop. Its not one fixing the other, or one lecturing other, its both, whether they are their worst or at their best.
      I was kind of surprised that OUAT managed to get that aspect right, but then again, Jane Espenson, the person who pretty much ran btvs in Season 6 and 7 is in the writing staff there.

    • @SaturnHollow
      @SaturnHollow 6 років тому +1

      Ugh, speaking of OUAT (spoilers), it honestly felt like they ripped off a lot from Buffy. I'm pretty sure some writers from Buffy moved in to OUAT, but still. They basically took the Dark Willow Arc and Souless Angel Arc and made it Into the dark swan Arc in OUAT. First, Emma goes dark like Willow, except she wasn't nearly as savage as Dark Willow. Then Hook becomes dark and tries to kill everyone like Angel. Then, at the end, the blonde chosen one (Buffy, Emma) sacrifices the one she loves after they become good again by impaling him (Angel, Hook) with a sword and sends Him to hell. And then, they both get sent out of hell by divine intervention. Only difference is Buffy was done so much better, had more action, and Buffy is an older show but still manages to somehow look less fake. When I saw that episode of OUAT, I just remember sitting there dumbstruck by how they blatantly ripped off that scene, and both arcs to a lesser degree.

    Brilliant stuff, I always think TR suffers a little in comparison with OMWF much as Forever does with The Body, both let down by stupid monsters, the Loan Shark and Mohra Demon. But yeah, it shows what a character driven show this has become by this stage and how even though everyone is amnesiac we all see their true selves come through (except for Xander/Anya?). Reworked on Angel of course in Spin the Bottle which is arguably even better.

    I don't get why anyone would be happy about Buffy and Spike together. It's self-destructive and ... icky. Basically everything that was broken about her relationship with Angel without any of the positive elements

    I'm sorry, I watched this, I own this but this is VERY OLD; you really just seeing it for the first time? I'm a little lost on this one...

    Hate to say, but this episode is highly overrated. I feel we've seen this premise before for some reason. And the shark demon was HORRIBLE! Was that supposed to be a reference to the show jumping the shark or something?

    I would wanna go out with that version of Willow, too. Just hope, she´s gonna forget, that she´s... you know..... kinda gay......

    Dawn is particularly insufferable in this one.
