Paranoid is probably the most famous filler on an album of all time, and Planet Caravan is probably the first trippy song from a metal band that you could meditate to.
After he had his accident, In the factory, where he cut of the tips of some of his fingers he learnt a lot about playing guitar from Django Reinhardt who had also damaged the use of some of his fingers in a fire, so it’s only logical his playing is jazzy.
Tony didn't learn how to play from Django Reinhardt (Reinhardt died in 1953) but he was certainly influenced because of his disability as well. The manager from the factory where Tony worked brought him a Reinhardt album after the accident.
That guitar solo in Planet Caravan led me to explore jazz at an early age (13), especially the work of John McLaughlin. Black Sabbath as a gateway band to Miles Davis - who could imagine that?
I should rather think about Joe Pass or even Wes Montgmery for the smooth playing . John Mc Laughlin is a little bit like an iron hand into a velvet glove.
I LOVE Planet Caravan! It was a perfect song to relax with some friends and some herb way back when. Soooo relaxing. Thanks so much for reacting to this bad jam.
Guys before the infamous Bat head biting incident there was the white dove incident at Ozzy's record contract signing. After they signed the contract Sharon had the idea to have Ozzy let out the doves in the office, then he proceeded to take one and bite its head off in front of everyone. Needless to say they were outraged and said they would not release his album. But with Sharon there the album was released on time and Crazy Train flew up the charts. The rest is history.
It is important to make the population aware of the need to not let clowns loose on the streets, as they can perpetrate crimes with irreversible consequences.
Great reaction! That was fun...even the Puddles Pity Party - not a bad rendition at all! Planet Caravan proved to me that Sabbath was so deeply rooted in blues, but also psychedelia! Probably helped that the first time I heard the song I was baked out of my mind - what a headspace song! Was certainly the beginning of what they became known for, Stoner Metal!! Just wait until you do Master Of Reality - track on there called Solitude that will likely redefine your opinion on Ozzy's voice! Paranoid, great song, great album!
Django Reinhardt was a major influence on Tony Iommi after he lost the tips of his fingers. Reinhardt had also lost fingers but went on to be a jazz master.
This reaction didn’t help my irrational fear of clowns guys! However, it’s always a treat to hear Dev laughing. I’m pretty sure “ Paranoid”” made it in to the top 10 singles charts in the UK and the band played it on the BBC TV programme “ Top Of The Pops”. It was a great year for seeing rock bands looking so out of their comfort zone on that show, including Derp Purple ( “ Black Night”) and Free ( “ All Right Now” ) and Jethro Tull ( “Living In The Past “???). Apparently “ Paranoid “ only exists due to the producer of the album telling Iommi the album running time was about 3 minutes short of the required minimum. So they knocked this together in no time at all and the rest is history. Oh and thank you for the name check. Best wishes and goodnight from England 🏴.
@@MusicforBusyPeople Puddles is only 5” taller than I am but clowns are fiddlesticking terrifying mate. This from someone who survived a week in Paris without his passport, cash or bank card. Long story. I wish I could laugh at Puddles like Dev and your good self but that’s my psychosis not yours, clearly.
Black Sabbath would have seen the success of Led Zeppelin II with softer tracks mixed with hard rock and blues and run with the beautiful Planet Caravan, my favourite song from them. Can think of an another contemporary band that had albums that were hard rock riffs from start to finish. Cannot listen to them now. Too boring.

Tony Iommi can come up with a massive hit riff in 20 minutes. Incredible. Also, he was originally a jazz guitarist before he invented metal.

I can't get enough Black Sabbath, thanks for your reactions.
I'm 49. Seen Sabbath only 3 times. They are my Band.
Planet Caravan. My favorite from this album and THAT'S saying something.....................................
Not into clowns but Puddles can sing, serious vocal talent. Check out Puddles and Hailey Reinhart cover of "Mad World".
Very good duet between Puddles and Hailey
Love Puddles :)
Mike's "covers" are EPIC! LOVE to see you guys breaking down in tears! Great Stuff!
Geezer's bass on Planet Caravan is just flat out sexy.
If Planet Caravan was an iconic object from the 70s, it would be a Lava Lamp.

And a very interesting history it is.
I was in 10th grade when this came out. I can assure you, there were no boom boxes.

Planet Caravan, a caravan (roulotte) heading towards the horizon of an endless afternoon under the sky.
A bit of reverse flute (Tony) and a makeshift synth made from a 5 position knob. Engineer Tom Allum on piano.
Hey, when you get to Hand of Doom, make sure you play it through with Rat Salad (it's a continuation) and enhances the experience of Hand of Doom.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Apparently Geezer Butler didn’t know the difference between paranoia and depression because he was smoking so much weed 😅
I don’t think boom box’s were invented before the early 80’s.
HE IS SINGING THRU A LESLIE !!
