I had gotten my fuzzy from petco and took him to my vet for a check up he had ear mites and worms also he had a fever and was under weight I called the store to let them know and that they should have the other ferrets checked out but they didn't seem to care very much at what I had to say except that I could return him I didn't want him to go back to that hell hole being how sick he was so I made sure he got the care he needed this April he will be a year old I just hope those other ferrets made it and those papers I got from petco went into the garbage also the things petco sell for ferrets is garbage too my fuzzy boy lives like a king today he's happy and healthy owns a two-story cage with hammocks,beds,blankets toys has free roam and proper diet he's so happy that hes forgotten were he came from 😸
Yep, my catsnake was underweight from Petco too, she had a bad biting problem because she never got out, and they had too big of a bowl in the tank so that they didn't have to refill their food bowls. She a happy and healthy girl going to be a year old next February 14th!

Absolutely love your content, ferrets have become a recent love for me within the passing 3 months and I'm amazed by all the things pet stores are doing wrong! I work at a PetSmart, and our company doesn't sell ferrets- but you are correct that anyone can be a associate. You mention a lot not to get ferrets from pet stores. Do you recommend a certain breeder or website for responsible breeders? I'm a future ferret parent. :)
Proper ferret care and education before buying is so important! I got my two current ferrets from the pet store a few years ago (I’ll definitely be looking elsewhere for buddies to adopt from people looking to rehome or buy from a breeder in the future), and had my first ferret for a while before getting my second. I used to use a corner litter box (which they stopped using after a while, understandably lol) and only fed Marshall’s because that was the “best” food we could find near us, and they had a much smaller (way too small) cage, because it was the biggest one available at the physical store. Their care wasn’t the absolute worst, but it wasn’t great either. Thankfully I’ve since done a lot more research, gotten a much bigger cage, switched to a cat pan as a much better litter box, my girls go to the vet regularly like they should, I’ve switched them to a much better food (I can’t feed raw for a few reasons, otherwise I would because I know it’s much better), they get around an hour of time daily with me actively playing with them and then more time to play by themselves out of the cage to roam around my room (can’t free roam unsupervised because my house has open railings between floors that aren’t possible to ferret proof and could be very dangerous, and completely ferret proofing my room is impossible bc one of my fuzzies is a major climber and can get to everything but 1 high shelf in my room if she’s left to her own devices 😂), and I’ve recently started making my own cage liners and hammocks/hides etc. for them, which they love, and their care has gotten MUCH better recently, which I’m very proud of. Ofc some things still need improvement, and I wish I could do things like free roam or feed a raw diet, but I feel much better now that I actually know what I’m doing and how to better care for them. I was pretty devastated when I realized how poor their care actually was even though I love them so much and just want to do the best for them, but I’m super happy to be working more on giving them proper care, and to hopefully be able to educate others if I see someone making the same mistakes I did because I was given the wrong information. I was frustrated and about at the end of my rope and even starting to consider rehoming one or both of my ferrets because they were just so hard to take care of, but since really taking the time to fix everything and cater to them better, they’ve been super easy and much more fun to care for. I kind of really want to adopt one or two more, but there’s no way my parents would allow it 😂 And god, however poorly I thought I was doing with mediocre ferret care before, at least I wasn’t feeding them FRUIT,, my jaw literally dropped. Like, even when I got my first ferret in middle school, at least I had done enough research to know that they’re OBLIGATE CARNIVORES and literally CANT EAT FRUIT 🤦♂️ Tbh, thank god for youtube and pet forums, they’re such good resources for pet owners and should 100% be what people are directed to when looking for a pet, everyone should steer clear of those pet store guides. It’s just uneducated people teaching improper care to other uneducated people who’re genuinely looking for advice on how to care for their animal. Hopefully the standards for care of small animals especially change for the better in the future, ferrets are really so easy to manage and so fun to keep when you research properly and give them the right care.
I just want to say thank you so much, I have been feeding my ferret kibble her whole life and kept her in a cage for EVER! I also got her from Petco which now I will never do because I saw the Marshall farms video. I just want to say thank you, you have helped me bring my ferret out of a deep hole. Now I have her in a feisty ferret cage with ziwi cat food and more outdoor enrichment and better litter and litter boxes. Thank you so much!

Rescued 3 of my ferrets and 2 from different pet stores. One of those pet stores being Petco. I received a Marshall pamphlet telling me ‘how to take care of my ferret’. Looking at it now here are a few things that stick out to me: ‘we recommend bathing your ferret every 2 weeks with shampoo and conditioner’. ‘Please put a bell and collar on your ferret for its safety’. ‘Add Marshall goodbye odor to water DAILY’. There are lots of strange things in the pamphlet, all of which are promoting Marshall products, and making it sound like you can’t take care of your ferret without them. I love my little angel. I don’t regret picking him up from Petco because he’s perfect. It’s not his fault. Wish Marshall could be held accountable for the things they put out there though….
Your videos are super great, I wish you were more well known, I bet a lot more ferrets would be happy and healthy!!
Also for a video suggestion, could you make one on how to ferret proof a room/home? I feel like that would be useful for free roam time :D

You should do more videos about raw feeding I really enjoy them and think they’re very interesting to watch and I love learning more about a balanced raw diet, I’d love to know more about your own personal balanced diet that you use for your ferrets and how you keep it maintained!

I went into petco for treats . Lady was asking for help with ferrets food and treats . Worker took her right to Marshall food ! I had to step in . I told her plzzz go raw !!! Start with soupie and grinds
Worker was amazed and actually asked me questions about care and treats I was like wow . I told him if a person doesn't wanna do raw to plz go to cat foods at least 40 to 55 percent protein. Do not tell them Marshall treats or food .. I asked where HE got his info on ferrets . He handed me a care sheet I went to supervisor to see if I could tell him about new info for his care sheet . He said he can't change that . I said your workers are not giving right Info for them . He didn't care . I was so sad . Sigh
I would never own a single ferret ever again. I noticed my ferret wasn’t happy. No animals can play like they can and he felt out of place. My ferret got so excited after I bought another one he got so excited he fell out of his bed . He is much more happy.

If these stores are going to sell ferrets, they should be handing out whole folders full of info, tbh. A pamphlet can't possibly tell you half the information you need! Nothing at all would be better, because I'm sure plenty of people think that IS all the info they need, so they don't have to do any further reading.
Great video as always! They should give a brochure that has one sentence....for ferret care go to pazuandfriends on youtube! Lol. I hate these brochures they give out!

The food part... The pain
As someone who works in a pet store, I always try to do my best to have good research and a good understanding of all of the animals that we sell. But we sells over 15+ species of animals. As someone who has never had most of those animals, I can't know everything. I always urge customers to do their own research and point them to good sources. But I know that they wont. So I do my best to know what I can or find someone who does. Please do your own research. It makes our jobs at the store easier and less stressful than explaining for the hundredth time that 'yes it says ferret food but its actually really bad for your pet"
I'm not sure if this is for everyone but my Petco / Pet smart has stopped selling ferrets and they said it has something to do with the provider.

I am a new ferret owner and I did get my ferret from a pet store that only has two locations and they have informed us of the shots and the vet visits but my question is can you walk your ferret in general not just as out of cage time but in general and I do plan on getting another ferret in the future but I can’t afford another ferret at the moment because I did just get her 2 days ago so I do intend on getting her a friend :) (her species cause she loves my dog lol)
I have a question. In your last video you said that ferrets could eat raw eggs for hairballs. But I thought they were obligate carnivores?
Eggs actually belong in the meat, poultry, fish, eggs category! (all animal products) All safe for ferrets. In the wild, eggs would be consumed by polecats when they could find them. When I say they are obligate carnivores and can only eat meat, I really mean meat, poultry, fish & eggs! Just easier to say meat.

Unfortunately I live in an area where basically the only place to get ferrets is petco. No breeders, no shelter that have them, etc. I fear that my ferrets (I'm getting a couple this summer when I move out) is gonna be mistreated behind the scenes (until I come along). I'll be getting two. I will NOT get a cage. I'll just connect some boxes and tubes and put some enrichments in the boxes and put a hammock somewhere in my living room. Why spend hundreds of dollars on some overpriced decked out cage when I could just spend a whole day pouring my heart into a ghetto yet adorable play area for my fuzzies. Been doing research for the past couple months and I am looking forward to getting my ferrets. I'll be moving out in august into my own place by myself (living with brother right now helping pay rent). I work from home and almost never leave unless it's to my parents' or to the store or doctor so I'm home like 99% of the time. I think I'll do just fine :)
Okay but if you don't get a ferret from PetSmart that means they are reading it fruit so buying them would help the ferret

Quick question would one free roam room be appropriate for two ferrets I’m heavily researching ferrets and a ferret proof free roam rooms are one of my big concerns. The free roam room would be my bed room and they would both always be supervised while in my room but is one room enough for two if not then unfortunately I most likely will not be able to get a ferret because I still live with my parents and they would be against proofing three whole house because it to much work.

Hii, when you say “take your ferret to the vet immediately when your bring them home” should I bring my new kits home, let them settle in and then after like 2 days take them to the vet?
I’m planning to get 2 ferrets I have been looking at cages ( I plan to get them a spacious one with hammocks,) I’m going to feed them raw ( I’ve watched videos on how to transition them from kibble to raw food) I’m planning to let them wander around my room by ferret- proofing it, but how do I do that?
Make sure there are no holes and/or crevices around the room that they can get trapped in. Make sure to keep wires out of the way and do not leave precious items on the floor that they could destroy and/or choke on or swallow. Make sure to have puppy pads/newspapers/litterboxes in all the corners. Basically patch up/block small spaces and remove choke hazards.

i trust only one pet store in my area. they give out info that most stores wont give out about anything they sell. if they dont know the info they will find out for you
I just bought a female baby bout 3 months old at this point from Pets Supply Plus out here in Chicagoland, the flier they gave me suggests washing them every 2 weeks. Smh

Its sad how in America they live for 7 to 9 years i live in England and one of my ferrets the oldes one is 13 years old and is still full of energy

It's a result of poor breeding:( also lots of ferret lines in England breed in wild pole cats to keep them healthy and strong

If your dad doesn’t want to look anywhere else for ferrets because of them potentially costing more, maybe try asking about checking online somewhere like craigslist or petfinder if you haven’t already gotten them. It depends on where you live, but a lot of the time people buy ferrets and then decide that they don’t want them anymore, and list them on craigslist to try and rehome them. Sometimes you can find single ferrets on there, or already bonded pairs that people are looking to rehome. People list literally like everything on there; young ferrets, older ferrets, single ferrets, pairs, trios, whatever. I’ve seen some ferrets on craigslist near me for a decent fee that even come with a nice cage and their accessories like hammocks and whatnot. Some people just really want them rehomed and will only ask for a pretty cheap rehoming fee. It can be an even cheaper option than buying from a pet store, and it saves ferrets that need a home instead of supporting pet mills. Ofc if you only have the option of a pet store, I’d say just make sure you give them the best care you can and make sure they’re happy :) my current ferrets are both from petco, but I’ll definitely be looking on craigslist or with a reputable breeder in the future instead of buying any animals from them again. When I get my ferrets, I am going to be going a kibble diet.. I learned that their diet affects if they smell a whole bunch so will kibble make them smell? 💜💜
Yes any kibble will make your ferret smell as they are not able to properly digest the ingredients in kibble. What you put in them, you usually get out. Smellier and large poops, and very stinky ferrets.

I work at a pet store and I just want to say, the workers that work in petcare Are usually not giving false information, I work in petcare but I know how bad they are before I worked there so I went to change that and I have made a lot of progress in my store but it’s the head of the company and requirements, I didn’t have to have any knowledge on the animals nor did they teach me anything, I took some regular standardized testing and was working the next few days, for someone who needs a job and ends up working petcare they end up getting false information about that animals care or none at all, and the care guides are shit, some have okay points but NEVER just follow a care guide and think you’re good any animal you want research it before hand cause any pet store will tell you what they know/ what they have been told to say. Unless you find someone like me who owns the animals and actually knows the information, most of the time it better to research and know what you’re getting into and what you need them coming in and asking an employee
Also despite what they say ferrets only come in with one shot and please please take them to the vet once bought cause over half have things that if someone doesn’t say to take them to the vet they just sit there, I work over 40 hours a week cause I hate not being there cause I know if I’m not dumb shit will happen, but most of the petcare people I have met are very kind and want to learn more but they are just taught false information

They should be 8-10 weeks when sold. 4-6 is WAY too young. Even 8 weeks is a bit young.
i know you shouldnt bathe them but can you let them play in water?
Depends if they get soaked, a little water is fine but if they're drenched then it will irritate/dry out their skin

Stop telling people to not buy from pet stores just because you disagree with how they're being raised. Some people have no other options to obtain these pets. I live in the midwest out in the country and the nearest ferret breeder to me is an over 10-hour drive to Chicago. They also charge almost double for the ferrets themselves. If you want people to stop buying from pet stores then they need to be readily available to everybody no matter where they live and the prices need to be more competitive.
Pet stores are awful though and the ferrets and animals from there are from mills. If you can’t get them anywhere else, then wait for them to come to a shelter. That’s what I did. Took 4 months but willing to wait to save babies who need it. There’s always other options. Also the breeders near me charge way less than pet stores... you just need to look and not impulse buy at a pet shop. But to each their own. Pet stores are still awful and shouldn’t be supported.

Petco and Petsmart are just not the right place to get ferrets (they themselves don’t know how to care for them)(not going for the employees but to the company as a whole)

I found my ferret outside! I obviously knew that wasn’t natural so I took him in and I remembered I had seen my neighbor’s little kids with a ferret once but they were handling him very poor. I obviously had to give him back so I went and knocked on their door and he was theres so i asked about how he got out the cage and she said he doesn’t have a cage because they don’t really want him... let’s just say he’s happily living with me now!
