You deserve that bubble bath, babe! Great video. Love those pokes at using old blogs as legitimate sources 😏 Peer reviewed research is always always ALWAYS going to trump personal opinions with questionable sources.
I’m still kind of confused on feeding grinds. I’m new to all of this so this may be stupid but what meats should I buy and how do you actually feed them. And what’s a typical meal plan when feeding grinds?
chicken, beef, lamb, rabbit, offal, are some good examples! personally i like feeding whole prey such as small mice & rats and small quail (just make sure the bone isnt too hard or big for them!). for the most part they share the same nutritional needs as cats, and will eat around 5% of their body weight, but can go up to 10% during colder months!
Thank you so much . Thanks to you and another ferret youtuber I am raw feeding instead of kibble (thank goodness) I worried about cost ,not anymore, I found put so much helpful thing about different kinds of raw feeding. Thank you so much
*the tongue tends to have more taurine than the heart, interestingly enough, so if you’re squeamish about hearts, go for the tongue? tongue freaks me out a but more honestly since most of the time it still looks bloody, but to each their own i guess
Hi I am new to getting a ferret and based in Australia Was going to feed them a Frankenprey Diet but was wondering what people use for treats for ferrets when training them.
Hare Today and Raw Feeding Miami are the two big ones. I know not all of their grinds are balanced so just make sure you look into whichever ones you're getting 😊
Hi there, great video and awesome channel, do you know if big country raw ships to the us? It seems like a great idea for feeding a balanced diet. Thanks, Matt
I know it’s a bit late but i have a bunch of shops that i recommend if your in the us. Such as My Pet Carnivore,Raw Feeding Miami,Hare Today and much more!
Pls I need to know how many grinds and how many times a day???? Thanks to u I now have my baby on 2 different brands of FDR and he is eating 7 types of protein!
They on average eat 5-7% of their body weight in small amounts spaced out 6-8 times a day. Weigh out your food ahead of time and maybe even have some kind of good kibble they can snack on throughout the day and have one or two meat grind meals a day. I hope this helped
@@raemontgomery9141 thanks. I got it figured out but my boys do not like the twice a day thing. I ended up dividing it into 4 meals. They always have a good quality kibble out but my boys started not eating the kibble anymore and began dropping weight and hounding me for food. So I spread it to 4 times and they really do well on that. My god they look so healthy.
I might be a little late but i hav plenty of excellent shops! Such as My Pet Carnivore?,Raw Feeding Miami,Hare Today ! I mostly recommend My Pet Carnivore!
Hi ! i love your videos! i wanted to ask a question . A red meat source i wanted to feed my ferrets follows the 80-10-5-5 i wanted to ask if that is the same things as 8-10-10?
Okay I have a question it might be a stupid question I've tried to feed my ferrets raw and they won't touch it they like Duck Soup but it's not good for them I bought them freeze-dried liver treats they won't touch them is there a way I could rehydrate the freeze-dried liver and blend that down would that be suitable or is that not a thing
Also my ferrets eat wysong and they lick my skin a lot and I read that means they need more salt in their diet so if they won't eat raw how do I get more salt in their diet
what if I just put a whole rat in a blender?(thawed) my ferret would still be getting all the nutrients and such he needed, right? idk, my bad I'm new to this

How much are you supposed to feed your ferrets if you give them two meals of a WHOLE pray grind a day? Im sorry im really new and thinking about getting ferrets, im trying to learn as much as I can. I love your videos and your fur babies so much BTW
ferrets eat 5-10% of their body weight a day, this fluctuates based on the season. just give them enough that they have leftovers and subtract the leftovers with how much the original piece before it was devoured weighed. do this for a few days and you can figure out how many ozs they will eat.
It depends on what you're feeding, how much they weigh, what time of year it is, and how old they are. Generally speaking ferrets will eat anywhere from 5-10% of their body weight per day (depending on all of the factors). Most ferrets won't over eat and they'll stop when they're full (unlike some cats/dogs which don't stop). If you're feeding raw, you can use the method I used to figure out how much to feed my girls: I weighed them and gave them 7% of their bodyweight in food. For example, Elara weighs 904g so I fed her 63g/day. If they finish all of it, give them a little bit more next meal and if they don't eat all of it give them a little less. Keep track of how much you're feeding and after a few days you'll figure out the perfect amount. Keep in mind that this will change depending on the season (ferrets generally eat more in fall and less in spring) and with age (kits eat way more than middle aged and senior ferrets). I always give my ferrets enough food that there are a few bites left over every meal so that I know everyone ate their full. That applies only to raw food, if you're feeding kibble it should be left out 24/7. Hope that helps!
Is giving my ferrets chicken wings or chicken neck 2-3 times a week good if I give them grinds? Now I’ve heard of bone in meal just curious what that consist of? I can’t brush my ferrets teeth they won’t let me. I currently give them ziwi peak aired dried beef recipe and the mackerel and lamb recipe with water add, and give them a chicken wing once a week each for their teeth cleaning. Any advice would be great. Im looking to give them grinds from big country raw using the four approved one that was mentioned in the video. Also how do you make sure ferrets eat their share when on grinds do you have to do multiple meals through out the day and do you need to give them separate dishes? Also how do you transition ferrets to grinds?
I give my girls quail or chicken wings 2-3 times a week so it's a great way to keep their teeth clean! Bone meal won't do anything because it's just powdered bone. I feed my girls their grinds all in one dish and they get two meals a day (in the morning and evening). If they're already eating chicken wings no problem then they may be willing to eat the grinds right off the bat, try it out and see! If not, you can use this guide to switch to raw: holisticferret.com/natural-diet/the-switch/ Do the first 3 steps the same, and then instead of doing the 4th step (adding chunks) just start mixing the grinds into the soup and slowly adding more grind and less soup until they're fully onto it.
no because heart is a muscle, not a organ. and people would wind up feed 20% liver because they don't do enough research on raw before feeding their pets
It depends on the ferret's individual needs, some ferrets will do better on a frankenprey diet, some will do better on grinds, and some will do better on whole prey. as long as you follow the 70/10/5/5/10 and make sure to provide variety, your ferrets will be getting the nutrients they need
and by no means am i an expert on ferret nutrition at all; i would recommend the holistic ferret forum's guide if you genuinely are wanting to feed your ferrets a natural raw diet

Was going to feed them a Frankenprey Diet but was wondering what people use for treats for ferrets when training them.
In the video you highlighted the “Dehydrated Kangaroo Liver” so is dehydrated stuff cooked?
anyone know any good grind companies in the u.s? big country raw only ships within canada :(

I was wondering if you can find grinds for ferrets in the grocery store, and if so can you give examples?
I can't speak for the whole world, but I haven't found it where I live.

For Big Country Raw what are 4 grinds that match all of the criterias in this video?
can you feed whole prey and grinds both during a week? like could you do whole prey one day and normal grinds the next?
Yes you can x

yep! I have a friend who gives her ferrets whole squirrels. If they're hunted, make sure to freeze them for at least 20 days to get rid of parasites 😊
