'Made of Stone' Animatic (The Hunchback of Notre Dame Musical)

- This is my second animatic made out of passion for Disney's 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' (1996) and its stage counterpart. This is a handful of animatics I was inspired to create a while ago (even though it is only now that I've started to share them), just in lite of the release of the musical cast recording. I was even further inspired to create them as is was just the time when the trend of Disney live-action remakes were starting to kick into high gear (long before the announcement of the 'Hunchback' remake was ever announced).
Now I am of the general mindset that Disney live-action remakes are less often than not made with the right intentions. But 'Hunchback' has always been one that I could conceive of several reasons to justify the making of, and could picture several directions in which to take it. While I'm not sure if the eventual result will ultimately be worth all the effort, I am willing to be open-minded and cautiously optimistic. The animatics I've created were basically my own personal conception for how I would film a remake of 'Hunchback', adding some new elements into account, like Alan Menken's song rendition of Quasimodo's iconic line from the novel. I also tried envisioning how it could be done if going for the concept that the gargoyles and statuary are explicitly voices in Quasimodo's head.

Why isn't this blowing up?!
Well, it's on the verge of hitting a thousand views by next month. If you leave it a like, it has a chance. Also, feel free to give a like to some of my other animatics.
This is so EMOTIONAL.
Not me actually thinking this was commented 69 years ago 🤦🏽♀️
ARE WE NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT THE STATUE "CRYING" AT 2:25???
Fr though, this is excellent!!!
I was one of Quasimodo’s talking/singing statues when my high school did this show my sophomore year (we were one of the first high schools in the country to acquire the rights to perform it) and this was my favorite of the six scenes I was in (I didn’t have one of the three solos towards the end of it, but I did join in when all the statues sang, “We just thought you were made of something stronger”). You can really feel the pain in Quasimodo’s voice as he sings that last part of the song, especially when he belts out the G3 at the end of the song. Great job with this animation!
Thank-you for the compliments! And that's very cool to hear! It warms my heart to hear how many people who have seen my animatics have starred in their own local production of 'Hunchback'!
This is my FAVOURITE song from the musical!!!!! The anger, the despair, the helplessness he was was feeling everything you captured so well. The water effects were awesome too. The way you drew him shackled is beautiful. Everything about this is perfect ❤️❤️❤️. Maybe if you have time you'll do the Finale next?
I did an animatic to a segment from the finale, with the "Top of the World" reprise.
This is beautiful it made cry:( I could feel Quasimodo's pain:(
Isabeau same here, this should've been in the movie
Same here
Your shot composition is so surreal and amazing
Exhibit A 1:54
Exhibit B 2:04
Exhibits C-Z. Everything else
If you loved this one, please go check out my other 'Hunchback' animatics!
the way that the ending gives a shoutout to the last moment of "out there" made me TEAR UP this is INCREDIBLE
Thank you for giving us a high quality Made of Stone Animatic. i been Waiting for one to pop up. And Its awesome.
The song says Quasimodo has “one human eye,” but you animated him with two eyes.
OMG. This is some serious god tier animation. You understand the tone and mood of every note making the performance as natural as it should be. And using the famous Quasimodo with the popular Michael Arden's Voice. Bruh if this doesn't get more views I'm gonna riot my way through every disney fandom till they watch this
XD Thank-you! Your praise means a lot to me! I hope you'll give a watch to some of my other animatics as well!
Sure thing ✌️
this is exactly how i pictured this entire scene/song in the Disney movie
You are a very talented individual and I assure you, your work is amazing. Just all the different ways you use to make such engaging animatics is fantastic. I love the water effects you used that flowed from the statues!
THIS IS GOLD
i love this song and i love the ending when i first heard the high notes it was so beautiful i had no words ❤
Beautiful! One of my favorite songs from the musical.
Thank-you very much! Don't forget to check out some of my other animatics to other songs from the musical!
This would look so BEAUTFUL animated!!!😍😍😍
Part of me does like to imagine what it would be like if one of my animatics got enough views to inspire an animator (or even a team of animators) to make one of my animatics into a fully-fledged animated sequence, like how there was that one case with an animator who did a UA-cam rendering of Scar's confrontation with Nala from the Lion King musical. (Or even better yet, have a newly-added animated scene to a future home-media release of the movie based on a song from the musical, like Beauty and the Beast did with 'Human Again'.)
Hopefully if this movie gets a live version this song gets to be in it!
it keeps throwing me off seeing animated quasi with michaels voice😂💜
So gorgeous. God this is so incredible you're so talented with all the shots and GOSH never stop
Damn this is really really good, seriously it's crazy how well you matched the original style of the animation to this song! Poor Quasimodo, also wtf Gargoyles? "We just thought that you were made of something... stronger." Way to kick a guy when he's down! Lol, but I mean I get it he did kinda tell them all to fuck off and I guess it was one of those "tough love" situations but... damn, what a thing to say to a dude who's already having an emotional breakdown.
This is seriously awesome! You should be really proud, and I am so grateful someone has finally turned this amazing soundtrack and show into something so amazing! Thank you!
The gargoyles/saints are so eery, I love it! The shots are so cinematic and quasi's emotions are displayed so well. Great job!
Thank-you! All of these compliments mean so much to me!
I've shown this video to at least 10 people in my life. once in a while you really do stumble across actual pieces of art on youtube. this is one of those times. your art is amazing
How do you not have more views?! This is amazing! I Love the direction you took. :D
I am very pleased to see how it's viewership is picking up momentum more and more. Liking and sharing the video does help out a lot.
I feel bad 😔

Ah!!! It's so exciting to see an animatic for my favorite song!!
Good animatic.
OH MY GOSH THIS IS AMAZING! How does this not have a million more views?
I always love these sorts of compliments! I'm glad that this video is as popular as it is, and I always value people who share it around and help it get more and more popular! (BTW, just recently we got the 25th anniversary of the animated movie!)
Amazing...
That was so awesome!!! Gosh, that high b flat at the end always gets me. Both when I’m listening and when I attempt to sing it. This made it so much better.
It still 2023
This is absolutely beautiful! Well done!
I love it! Thank you for making an animatic of my favorite song in the musical :3 the added detail of the rain is beautiful and works so well with the song. Amazing drawings

Hey, i dont know if youll respond to this, but i was curious if i and a few friends could try and animated the shot at 1:52 credit where credit is due of course
If it's something you want to do, go right for it! I've watched a few videos where you showcase your animation skills, and you are indeed very talented!
Just let me know whatever you've animated, once you're done, so that I can get a chance to see the results!
@@jacobbelow thanks man
Is this Michael Arden?
Yup. It sure is.
i wonder notre dame have a statue of joan of arc
You never animated the Sanctuary scene
They stuff that I upload on my channel is stuff of my choice and largely contingent on if/when I have time to do it.
In your opinion, where does this song fit in better? Before or after the song "Someday"?
In my honest opinion, I think the song is a better fit before "Someday". In that manner, it really gives you the sensation that Quasimodo has just given up and shut down, and that there's no one who can save Esmerelda. And when he finally snaps out of his torpor, it's not words of encouragement that does it, but just his undying love and devotion to Esmerelda that ultimately nothing can crush. It just comes back as more impactful in the climax.
And as it so happens, Dinsey's earliest stage adaptation of Hunchback (Der Glöckner von Notre Dame, which ran in Berlin from 1999-2002) does put "Someday" after "Made of Stone" as the 11 o'clock number. Both songs are worth a listen for their arrangements and orchestrations that differ from their modern iterations, like this one for "Made of Stone": ua-cam.com/video/o8FoEguD7E0/v-deo.html.
As for "Someday", the version in that one is longer and has a more anthemic feel, as it is set to Esmerelda being marched to here execution: ua-cam.com/video/qLwb76AYgJE/v-deo.html Not that I think less of the modern versions, but the original Berlin ones are just so beautiful and powerful to me!
@@jacobbelow Yes, I've seen the German version of the musical here on UA-cam. They do sing "Someday" as Esmerelda is led to her execution in that version. And I do agree with you. "Someday" is more impactful if "Made Of Stone" takes place before it. If that live action Hunchback Of Notre Dame ever gets here, it'd be nice if they included both songs.
@@sgauden02 It would be nice. I always envisioned that they do the anthemic version of "Someday" with Esmerelda, Phoebus, and the Romanees all being led to Notre Dame square, in a march that strongly resembles the way they used "I Know Where I've Been" in the film version of 'Hairspray'.
Unfortunately, the news involving the remake said that it likely wasn't going to be using material from the stage versions. But I hope they don't entirely rule out the possibility. If nothing else, they could do a cover of the songs from the musical(s) as promotion for the remake.
@@jacobbelow Yeah, I think they briefly used an instrumental version of the song "Home" from the Beauty And The Beast Musical in IT'S live action film.
@@sgauden02 Uh-huh. It also had a promotional cover of "If I Can't Love Her" by Josh Groban.
Do a guy like you
The art in this is beautiful !
