Thank you guys so much for watching! The love and support has been insane lately and I am so so grateful. Love you guys so much.❤
Loving the content! For videos that are numbered like this timestamps are great ❤
@@Jammy-kun thanks so much! I’ll make sure I do that in the future!
I followed every step. Great video. Everything worked perfect. Cheers! 🙏🫡
@@NeroLobo cheers!
Enjoy your steam deck bro I adore it had it since close to launch, still play regularly
Before I had a steam deck everyone said "they are overrated". After I got my OLED a month ago, it is in fact NOT overrated! Best purchase I have made in a long time!
Excited for you! I agree. The steam deck OLED is incredible.
Just ordered my oled hasn’t arrived yet, any tips when I do get it?
@chucknowakowski6676 Emudeck at least. Emulating on the deck is a blast. But honestly the only tip I could give you is download a game in your library that you wanna play but haven’t and dive in. If you haven’t played Elden Ring or Ghosts of Tsushima yet make sure to purchase and download. Fantastic games that are fantastic on the deck.
Its my preferred platform for indies currently playing F&H termina
Steam deck was a great purchase. As someone that is busy and only has an hour or so to play each night, being able to lay down in bed and play PC games is a game changer.
DUDE. Watch this video I did. I play steam deck in bed all the time and I ALWAYS use this accessory to do it. It’s a game changer for bed gamers. Glad you’re enjoying the steam deck. Thanks so much for watching.😊 link to the other video: ua-cam.com/video/6_LfDpmd7z0/v-deo.htmlsi=D7Xrv96jni8R2Glf
today I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my OLED steam deck so this was a MASSIVE help
That’s awesome! Super excited for you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Make sure to get Decky and Emudeck setup soon as it gets in. Hope you enjoy the steam deck as much as I have! Thanks so much for watching!
@@AndrewTaylorYT the emudeck sounds like a must tbh and decky sounds like it can do SO much
@@anndre_wilson they’re both really incredible. Decky actually has Emudeck plugins as well so you can enable achievements on emulated games and such. There’s 2 Emudeck Decky plugins you should 100% check out!
Have fun my guy
Same. I got mine for my birthday!
Just so you know, for any of the shortcuts involving the Steam button, you can use the three dots button as the Steam button and the combo will still work. That way you don't have to use your left thumb for activating the shortcut and awkwardly use your index finger to adjust the brightness on the thumbstick.
The steam deck is one of my best game purchases I ever got ❤
Same. Its awesome. Thanks so much for watching!
Great job. I got my OLED Steam deck yesterday in the mail. I gave my LCD to my son, we are having an awesome time. This really helps.
Glad this helped you! Thanks so much for watching!
@@AndrewTaylorYTGreat video ! My understanding of the Oled vs Original LCD version is that the Oled has more backlighting, so you can play it outside / in sunlight more than you could w the original Deck ?
Actually I’m pretty sure that is not even true. Difference are for one the OLED display. OLED displays don’t have any backlight. The battery and speakers are also better. It’s also does 90 hz and higher brightness. If you scroll down on my channels video page I did a video explaining what OLEDs are years ago. It’s one of my first videos so it’s not great but it explains what OLEDs are if you’re interested! Thanks again for watching!
Smashing video, my partner is getting me a SteamDeck for my 30th. This video was great and seeing the intricate details that can be customised was awesome! Thank you sir! 😊
Happy you enjoyed! Happy birthday! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm the guy who somehow never heard of the steam deck, then saw the steam deck, immediately bought the 1Tb OLED and now am researching everything I can while I wait for the mail.
Welcome to the club! It’s one of the best gaming related purchases I’ve ever made. Adore the thing. Excited for you! Thank you so much for watching.😊
@@AndrewTaylorYT Thanks man, you helped me feel much better about dropping that cash!
@helmetfire5973 glad to hear. Super excited for you! Thank you so much
For watching the video!
Same bro! I never knew about these newer handhelds, (steam deck included) , until a couple months ago. I have been really wanting one and watching all kinds of videos. After watching @AndrewTaylorYT review of the deck, I finally pulled the trigger. I literally got my 1TB OLED in the mail today and just started setting it up, it is AWESOME so far. And HUGE thanks to @AndrewTaylorYT for all the awesome tricks and tips to make it even better!
@AvoPlays99 so happy for you man! Have a blast! I’m gonna set up my steam deck and try to do a twitch stream with it. I’ll make sure to post a community post for it. It’s gonna be a fun video seeing if I can turn the steam deck into a streaming PC. So many cool things you can try and do with the deck. Hope you enjoy it man. Thanks so much for watching!
Using the decky for almost a year and you still managed to show me so many new ones. Ty and subbing
Thank you so much. Means a lot. Glad you enjoyed.😊
The most down to earth guide I’ve seen, so many filler and garbage videos about the deck but this one was a gem. Bonus points for actually linking affordable upgrades in the description as well
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed. I try to be down to earth as I can in every video. I’m in some hot water for that on my latest video I think.😂 thank you so much for watching!!
We’ve been loving emudeck as a family. I have it setup so that when we play Wii, we can have our true Wii motes connected to it. It’s been absolutely fantastic to play 4 player Wii games upscaled!
The steam deck connects so easily to a tv. I rarely have any kind of display issues. Unlike my gaming pc when I try to connect it to the tv. It’s always a disaster haha.
I have the same experience! I got a GameCube controller adapter so me and friends can all play old Mario kart and Mario party and such and it’s so much fun! Emudeck makes it so easy and the display compatibility is so convenient with Steam OS I 100% agree. Thanks so much for watching!😊
Another absolute banger! Definitely going to follow your advice and do all of these! Can’t believe it gets better… less than a week owning the OLED and i’m so blown away it’s crazy
Like I keep saying. It’s just one of the coolest gadgets ever. You can do so so so much with the thing and it’s so fun. Enjoy Decky and Emudeck!! Next weeks video is a new piece of tech that I got that also happens to be an INCREDIBLE steam deck accessory. 😎 thanks so much for watching!
A truly different kind of video. Most other tips videos focus on hardware, thanks for sharing some software side improvements. Learned some new things.
I’m happy you enjoyed! I wanna do similar things with some other tech. There are so many settings or apps people don’t know about on all kinds of devices that make your experience so much more efficient or better. Thank you so much for watching!!
Awesome advice, thanks!
Please consider, in the future, posting the names of the programs somewhere.
Either on screen or in the description. Some of us have hearing difficulties 😣
Will do! I'll make sure to add the logo and name when I announce certain stuff. Thanks so much for watching!
Good recommendation 👍
Have had one for a year and a half now.. best purchase I have ever made. Love the pc abandonware that can be found in the internet archives the most. 😁
That’s awesome man. Happy for you! The steam deck can just play around with all of that kinda stuff and it’s really amazing.
This is great info for a first time pc gamer since 1995. I got the oled steam deck at tax return and these tips are awesome. Thanks.
No problem! PC gaming is amazing but it’s really annoying. The pros outweigh the cons in my opinion but devices like the steam deck make onboarding into PC gaming so much comfortable. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much for watching. New video in a couple hours! See you soon!
Thank you for this. Mine arrived literally only 4 days ago. Perfect timing.
Congrats! Uploading a video on my favorite steam deck accessory tonight.👀 Thanks so much for watching!!
this video just made me so happy, those small improvements are HUGE to me, can't wait to buy a steam deck next month!
Im so glad it made you happy! Excited for you and your new steam deck. I have a video releasing Friday about my favorite steam deck accessory. Make sure to check that video out as well! Thanks so much for watching!
The Deck makes me feel like a kid again. Great video!
That’s a great way to put it. Makes you feel like I kid again. I totally agree. Thanks so much for watching.😊
For Ghost of Tsushima if you click on the unsupported it actually takes you to a document and explains what's not supported about the game.
You have to hit game notes then go to dev notes to get the description.
Alternate title: 5 decky plug ins for steam deck
Idk. I wouldn’t click on it. Doesn’t sound like a very solid title.
@@AndrewTaylorYT cause everything has to be cringe clickbait NOW!
@@connorm7005 eh. I mean you are 100% correct. Smart packaging is a phenomenal idea for creators. I’d hardly consider this “cringe clickbait” the promise the packaging of this video made was 5 tips of the steam deck that are kinda awesome and I’d say by the audience reaction that I delivered on it without any dishonesty. You are actually the only person to call the honesty of it into question. I’m happy to roll back the sensationalism a bit in the future but I’ll make sure to do it intelligently and in line with audience patterns.
@@connorm7005 there’s much more harmful “clickbait” than a video of a guy trying to help you enjoy a steam deck.
I didn’t even really mean for this to be a super click baity title lol. These are 5 things I generally think everyone should do lol.
#3 is basic shortcuts, I'd talk shit about it but its amazing how many youtubers include them in videos so i can only imagine how few people actually seem to realize they exist.
#5 you didnt mention anything about needing roms for games or bios for certain systems. I know you mentioned there's a ton of videos that go into it, but that basic information could help a lot of people so they dont think its as easy as installing emudeck and magically having all the games they want.
Other than man it's a good list, I'm downloading decky tonight. Thanks dude.
Thanks for watching! Number 3 is an interesting one. I agree that there is a surprising amount of people who don’t know any of them. Even me though. I knew them but I didn’t know the brightness toggle. I just use all of the buttons besides the keyboard so little that they get completely forgotten. #5 I totally mentioned needing roms and how I recommend installing Emudeck on a micro SD because you could then use a computer to dump roms onto it. I did not mention anything about bios which is correct and I would have if Emudeck didn’t handle all of the bios stuff on its own. I mentioned videos that go in depth into emulation and I said that specifically as the subject of emulation has a lot of depth but Emudeck handles a lot of the depth for you and all you need to do is load ROMs. I’m pretty sure I even define what a ROM actually is. I say something along the lines of “And if you don’t know what a ROM is, just know that it’s basically the game file. You download it and drop it into the file that’s for the console you have the game for.” Made sure to go over the basics so people could get up and playing! Thanks again for watching! Worked hard on the video and I’m glad people are enjoying it.😊
@@AndrewTaylorYT You're right. I don't know how I missed the part about the ROMs, my mistake.
@@cullum73 No problem. Thanks so much for watching!

Going to get mine today, thanks for your video
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it. Excited for you. Steam deck is such a fun gadget. Thanks for watching!
The proton badges can be a bit hit or miss.. for example it says Platinum for Ghost of Tushima... but in reality, there's a whole co-op mode that does not work on the Steam Deck. This is why Steam marks it as unsupported because if someone wanted to buy it for the co-op online mode they wouldn't be able to play it on Steam Deck.
I didn’t even know you could enter desktop mode on my steam deck! Thanks for these helpful tips!
No problem! Thanks so much for watching!
How 💀

Short cut buttons were the best tip! I have tried all the customization stuff as well as EmuDeck and honestly preferred just having a very vanilla steam deck and reset everything. I did keep Decky though. I’d forgotten all about the shortcut list so thank you so much.
No problem! I do agree. I like mostly vanilla steam os but I also like it even simpler? Like the Home Screen I just like the game icons and the game screens themselves I like the full game poster rather than all the text details. Glad you liked the video! Thanks so much for watching!
Emudeck is my favorite. Now I don't even game. I just download ROMS, and look at my library all day 😊
I FEEL this so hard actually. I totally spent a little while just collecting ROMs and being proud that I had them.😂
May I ask where do you get your ROMs from? I've checked many sites and it seems to either not work bcuz of missing or empty files? I'm new to this and just want to find some old classics and enjoy. Would appreciate your help
@@psd7gaming I generally use this website for ROMs. www.emulatorgames.net
@@AndrewTaylorYT Just gave it a look and man It's awesome. I will use this. Unfortunately, there are a few games that wouldn't come up when I searched, such as: NCAA Football 14 and DW Gundam 2 & 3. Any secondary site that might work for those. And thank you very much. I'm one of your subs from the video.
@@psd7gaming thanks so much for the support man. It really means the world. Sometimes I can’t find games on there or the ROMs are broken. When that’s the case I just have to dive into Google. Reddit can also be a good resource. There’s a big community behind emulation and they can be super supportive. You are like the only person who tells people to download roms lol
Really? I’ve found that especially when you get into niche gaming tech. Everyone thinks that everyone knows the stuff. You don’t know what you don’t know so I try to share the stuff. If you don’t go and download ROMs, how are you gonna play old games??? 😂
@@AndrewTaylorYTit’s because it comes with the potential of getting sued. As it’s a known secret, nobody ever tells people to do it directly or show it because it could be considered promoting piracy.
Playing ROMs isn’t necessarily pirating. I’ll have you know that I own a copy of all of my “ROMS”.
@@AndrewTaylorYT never said playing Roms is illegal, however, promoting downloading them off the internet is a gray area, and could be considered illegal; which is why, almost everyone does not show or promote websites and usually advise “go look for yourself.”

Great vid 👌🏻
Thanks so much!
The majority of these "thing you need" are just common now which had been covered for years from other content creators which i was hoping to see something new when clicking on your video.
Seems that a lot of people still didn’t know about the stuff though. Still helping to spread the word!
Sameses… basically download decky, emu and look at what they can do. Definitely stuff you do Day One, or just about everyone Did Day One😊
I actually keep the boot animations turned off, makes waking from sleep sooo much faster
I kept them off too until I learned I could get custom ones. If you press any button during the custom boot animations they instantly end as well if you want an instant wake.
The new update today breaks decky.
Yooo another Puppet fan!! I have a few of his posters too :)
Hell yea. I have some concert footage of his in a couple videos too😂
Hey i just stumbled upon your channel and had to sub. I absolutely love your content and presentation! You have a great energy please keep it up, you deserve success on this platform!

All the best from Poland
Thank you so much for the kind words! I work really hard on the content and im so happy you enjoyed! Ive always wanted to go to Poland. Hope to travel out there someday. Thank you so much for watching!!
The Steam button and the B button… are you kidding me! My modded GTA V crashes every so often and freezes and I have to hold down the power button which causes the big coloured lines to go across the screen (Due to the OLED display losing signal I think) And this always gives me Anxiety. Cant wait to try this. Thank you.
I hope it works for you! I’ve had similar issues at times. The force quit with the macro is so convenient.
@@AndrewTaylorYT Im sure it will. Yeah it sounds very convenient, cheers.

well, I'm still going to be new to the steam deck because in September, I gana order the steam deck so anything helps
Excited for you! I hope these tips help you out when it arrives. Make sure to order a nice micro SD along with the deck. Thanks for watching!
Supposedly the deck can overheat when in the dock? Looking since mine would spend more time hooked up to the smart tv. Answers??
I think the longest I’ve played while docked to a big 4k 77inch TV was like 9 hours. Don’t judge me. Got hooked on Elden Ring. No overheating problems though. It might depend on the dock. If you’re gonna do a TON of docked gaming I’d probably recommend getting the first party dock so you have warranty and everything. Can I ask why you’re looking at the steam deck if you want a docked machine? A PC tower could push a lot more out of games and will easily sit by the TV for forever. The steam deck really is a handheld system before a docked system. Not to say you can’t make it a docked system. Just seems like you might be able to find a better value device if you’re primary wish is a PC that essentially lives like a gaming console.
I think the Steam Deck is the single best gaming device ever made. I just have the worst buyers remorse. also i already have a Switch and an Xbox Series S so i don’t NEED it necessarily. i’m so torn on weather i should return this
Well it depends on what you want/need it for. If it’s just for the sake of having cool tech then you’ve gotta ask whether the money is worth it or not. The steam deck has a lot of value. Just gotta figure out where it’s at and what it could replace.
Great video! Time stamps in the future would be a great help
Thanks so much for watching! Noted.
Hi 😊

Glad you enjoyed! All the videos should be as good as this if not better. Work on making every single video better. Thanks so much for watching and thank you for the sub!
Oh my gosh, I'm going to have to watch this like a hundred times to do everything lol. BTW, is there a way to play Epic/Lego Fortnite/Fortnite on the Steam Deck? Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Fortnite does not run on Steam OS. You can stream it through Xbox cloud gaming or install windows to get it going. But unfortunately it has not been brought over to Linux. Thanks so much for watching!
@@AndrewTaylorYT Hi!!! Thanks for answering so quickly! I'm a Mac user and I do have parallels, but I really don't use windows, except to file some documents that will not work through Mac. So I guess my current options are the Switch (meh) or buying a game console. I guess I'll continue with my FOMO while my friends play lol. Have a great day!! Hope to see other videos soon!
Nice vid ty
No problem. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks so much for watching!!
I don't know why you would hold down the steam button to adjust the brightness when it's much easier to just hold down the three dots button. Basically any button that you want to hit that's on the left side of the Steam Deck you should hold down the three dots button instead of the Steam button.
Makes sense. Can’t argue with that.
Nice vid bro !

Could you do a walkthrough on emu deck?
I will 100% consider doing it! In the meantime try this video. It helped me a lot. ua-cam.com/video/Y5r2WZAImuY/v-deo.htmlsi=oXEfqqUEbfHUBw8D
Just a heads up, there are some games/programs that the keyboard shortcut does not work on. It seems that none of the standard shortcuts work for those games. If you MUST bring up the keyboard you can press the … button and scroll to the bottom to the keyboard icon.
Thanks for the heads up! I havent run into that situation yet. I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks for watching!
This is awesome! I need that virtual keyboard you’re using, can you share how I can install it as well? Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend decky at the moment, some of the plugins are causing bootloops since the last os update.

I've had a few issues with Decky myself. Seems to crop up when you have a new beta update

Decky is notorious for causing major issues when updating your steam deck, you should -probably include a disclaimer.
I’ve had decky for a good long while and haven’t had issues. I’ve got auto updates on and everything has worked great. I’ve heard from some comments that certain plugins have issues. Haven’t experienced any of that though.
@@AndrewTaylorYT totally fair, I just noticed a good number of new or potential steam deck owners in the comments. It might be a good idea to give a warning that decky has been known to cause issues for some.
@mattmyles if I do another video and dive into it I’ll make sure to do that.
@@AndrewTaylorYT your videos look great, keep it up!!
@mattmyles thanks so much. Working super hard to try and turn it into the dream job. Love creating and interacting with all of you guys. Thank you so much for being apart of the channel.😊
First time on the channel, and it looks like you have earned a sub. I have a question, though. Do you know what fixes the flickering caused by the certain decky plugins?
First of all. Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed. Means a lot that you’d wanna sub😊. To answer your question though I do not know. I was gonna start looking into it. My theory is that I probably have a couple different CSS loader options toggles that conflict with eachother a bit. I haven’t had it bad though. Just a flicker or two when I boot a new screen or game. Let me know if you figure anything out. I’m gonna start trying to figure it out here soon.
@boogidaball No problem, the quality of your work shows. Thanks also for information regarding the flicker. If I learn anything, I will pass it on.
@@B1ackLeo thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
If it's the same issue I had where games would flicker when browsing your library, turn off "square capsules" in the steamgriddb plugin
@@Blue_Meanie Thank you! I will try this out to see the result on my deck.
Decky seems to break constantly for me. I'll notice it's just not in the quick menu anymore and I have to go back to desktop mode to reinstall it. Does this happen to anyone else? It severely limits the usefulness of the app for me.
I heard that decky was causing the deck to go into a boot loop?
I’ve never had that problem personally. Maybe a specific plugin or update? I haven’t heard about it or experienced it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the reply, I’ll do a bit more digging.

Hey, i got decky a month ago and its so nice! i have a question, how did you get that color scheme? i cant seem to find anything. And will this work on the LCD version? Also great channel! i subscribed and liked. I love the editing and your overall tone for the video, very short sweet and super informative. I do still have the LCD version but i might upgrade the screen for it.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I’ve been working super hard to grow and working super hard on making the best vids I can. I’ve got one going up in a few hours that should be amazing. It’s also on a pretty amazing steam deck accessory. As far as upgrading I think you should if you can! If the money is in the way then there’s no need to worry but the display as well as speakers and battery are 100% worth the upgrade. As far as my color scheme and such I’m not 100% which you’re referring to. I’m doing multiple different things and have a ton of CSS loader stuff toggled and loaded. If you go to the video description there’s a link to my X/Twitter. My DMs are open on there. If you DM me and let me know, I can take photos of all of my CSS loader settings so you can see them all if you’d like to emulate my settings. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@@AndrewTaylorYT i also have a questionj about the steam deck OLED itself, is it better than the LCD one? and should i just get that one instead of replacing the screen for about 100 bucks?
@@Space-Shuttle-Scam I would say yes but I think it’s up to the personal users experience. Why don’t you reach out in the Twitter/X DMs and I can get you CSS loader specifics and we can chat about it. I’d say the upgrade value really depends on how you use it. For me it 100% would’ve been worth and upgrade but it kinda depends. Hit me up and we can chat!
I turned off the boot animation all together as it caused my Steam Deck controls to freeze when waking from sleep mode, anyone know what's up with that? I just have the default steam deck boot up and turning that off fixed the issue - but i'd like to use custom wake animations so im bummed
