I’ve become a Anbernic collector now. I absolutely love the 2 SD slot set up. Keep all my saves & roms on SD2. CFW on SD1. Simply swap Second card when I want to play different console
I’m a big fan of the H700 chipset. There is not much out there that competes with it in terms of price/performance, power efficiency and software compatibility. A lot of reviewers talk about the fact that Anbernic uses it in a bunch of devices in a negative way and I don’t get it. The chip plays everything you could possibly ask for at sub -$100, even sub $50 in some cases. I feel like a lot of reviewers are burnt out on these devices and are just looking for things to criticize. Truth is these devices are amazing and we are all spoiled. I remember just a few years ago, if you wanted a retro handheld, you had to build it with your own sbc and these custom kits that got expensive quick. And they didn’t perform nearly as well as these devices do. The buttons were crap, the software was crap. It took over a minute to boot and I often had to remap my controls. It neatly project but wasn’t fun to play with. Sorry for my rant, Adin this is not directed at you. Your opinions are always well balanced and I value your candidness and self awareness when they are not. Keep up the great work. 😊
Thanks. And I agree. Anbernic are doing well in rather repeating something they know, rather than trying to re-invent the wheel. When they started with this chip everyone said we couldn't do custom firmware for it and now there are a few options, while the stock firmware is actually quite decent (albeit ugly in my opinion haha). We really are so spoilt now. The RG40XX V is a perfect example. Essentially an analog pocket for a fraction of the cost.
Ordered the RG35XX SP, while waiting for it, the RG40XX H comes out. Ordered the H, while waiting for that, the RG40XX V comes out. Ordered the V, then another model comes out. Anbernic direct ships within 2 days or less. Litnxt takes long to ship an order.
Back when the Miyoo Mini first launched I wasn't interested as I don't much care for vertical handhelds so I avoided it. Then Ambernic started releasing a new handheld every other week and that put me off emulation handhelds all together. I modded my 3ds's and DSi's and enjoyed the heck out of them as I was playing primarily DS and 3DS games. Then I started looking at Funny Playing's FPGBC and picked that up and haven't put it down since I got it. So great review and it is a beautiful device but I think I'm going to stick with the devices i have for now but you do make it tempting.
Hey man. I go back to the Funny playing GBC everytime I buy another cartridge. I was going to get a flashcart but I have all the emulators for that, it's a nice feeling to go back to carts once in a while.
"For goodness sake, it's a huge bulge!" UA-cam video of the year, just for that! Please tell me you're going to make channel merch with the slogan "Crotch Time!" - which you should definitely trademark! In all seriousness, this was a really great review. Touched on all the relevant points, fair and balanced. Shake test? Genius. I really enjoyed your video and am glad the algorithm showed me your channel! Have a wonderful day!
A few more revisions and maybe they'll finally make one with no caveats. Good screen, good computing power, good controls, good software. OTOH, since the controls are still lacking and the screen and performance are still mediocre, I've been looking at phones as an alternative... can get one on par with a Retroid Pocket 4 for about $90 where I'm at, brand new, and it just needs a controller. So that's tempting.
Hey man. The screen on this is great. The only small gripe is the software and minUI cleans it up nicely, but, like you say the caveat is that you lose LED functionality
@@adinwalls It's a nice screen... but instead of 480p LCD, it's even nicer having a 1080p OLED touchscreen and some shaders, and a stylus for DS / 3DS games.
Not having OTA updates is insane at this point. That's my biggest complaint, by far! By the time I got my 40XXV a few weeks back, they already had an update for it. I LOVE the schedule, but the update process is absolutely miserable and I refuse to do it, despite liking the software. 💚
@adinwalls Well, and then there's the fact that I KNOW how to do it, I'm just tired of doing it to 5, 6, 7, etc.. of my devices every other week. Many people buying these don't even know what a ROM is or how to flash firmware. I've had many reach out to me about being intimidated about dealing with the software, or even just RetroArch, and I'm sure you have too. Point is, they've missed the point. They target an audience and then miss.
I just went back to stock OS from Knulli on mine because the battery life and standby modes on Knulli are terrible. I can run for 2 or 3 days gaming on an off with stock os using sleep quick and easy. Knulli I can't get through half a day without it dying completely.
Been playing a lot of GBA games on Delta Emulator on my iPhone recently and was getting annoyed with games that require a lot of R1 and L1 input so decided to order one of these last night after doing some research, it's going to be my first retro handheld. I actually like the joystick as an "in case" kind of thing although I do hope they fix the snapping in software at some point. I'm surprised you said it's not ergonomic, compared to the RG405V it wouldn't be as ergonomic yes but compared to the Miyoo Mini Plus (which you said was the GOAT) it'd be way more ergonomic although maybe there are some aspects of the Miyoo Mini Plus that are better like the OS. Super excited for this to arrive in the mail!
Got one in transparent black. Dropped it down a flight of steps (hardwood) and the screen does not have a scratch on it. Just a nick on the finish on the top left corner. It's awesome for GBA games. This is a great device. Edit: UI is trash.

LITNXT is a stupid name but I can attest they have good thing going on there, a good example is the A30 - they ship it with Spruce OS instead of the stock OS. They don't need to, but they do because they are a good company.
"For goodness sake that's a huge bulge!" 😂 In all seriousness though, I love everything about the RG40XX V except for that oddly placed and superfluous analog stick that looks like there's a mushroom growing out of the lower half of your Game Boy like some kind of RGB equipped fungal infection. I could understand having two analog sticks for DualShock PS1 games and N64 where you need a second analog stick to act as the C buttons, but the only purpose I could see for a single analog stick is Dreamcast and I feel like it would have been so much more aesthetically pleasing without it. If Anbernic ever rereleases the RG40XX V without the analog stick I'd absolutely buy one, but until then I'll stick with the RG35XX Plus... and RG35XX H, and RG40XX H. I have too many of these things already lol
