    Very very cool TM! Be proud girl! Throughout the video I kept thinking of you as being in the health and personal appearance profession! Lol. Dealing with body and frame structure like a fitness trainer giving him abs and muscles, fur as in hair stylist, skin on the chest and palms, hairy knuckles!! Lol. Then you reminded me of an optometrist doing an eye examine, fine tuning his vision! Awesomeness! When I first seen your 4 trunked log, a spider or octopus came to mind, but maybe not. Then when I seen that block in the background while your were working I thought of a spaceship or rocket with the 4 trunks being the engines?? Will keep it in the back of my mind…👍👍👍

    Beautiful carvings, you should really get the steel chainsaw with a carving bar and carving chain though. Even though I don't have any experiences of carver, I know that having the right bar, chain, and chainsaw combination can make your work a lot easier.

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  2 роки тому

      Thank you, and you are 100% correct! There really is no point in getting a gas saw right now since I’ll be working inside very soon and you can’t run gas indoors! But I just got a battery saw the other day and I hope to put a carving bar on it this winter! Now that this is my full time gig I’ll start pouring funds into my tools as I can afford it 😊 My current saw also has the manufactures chain which is a low profile/low kick back chain…so she cuts extra slow 😂 I actually really like the low profile chain for texturing but it can be a bit underpowered for the blocking out stage 🙃

      Fellow carver here, trust me when I say they are watching you carve. I was a skeptic because it's said they have cloaking abilities.
      Well, it's true. So yeah, a Sasquatch has seen your carving. Probably a whole clan. You should know, considering you took your interest in them this far. If you ever come to realize who they are and what they can do, your understanding of the spiritual world will transform dramatically.

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      No need to wait, especially with hardwoods. As they dry they turn into cement, carving hardwoods green is always best in my opinion. Green wood is easier to carve and will allow you to get more practice in without having to resharpen you chain every gas cycle!

    Hi Tay. Just came across this one in your feed. Curious about the Australian timber oil. Is that what gives that color as well or did you use a stain before using the oil? I also see this is when you were using your electric chainsaw. Just wondering if you ever had any problem with kick back on your electrics?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому

      Good questions! So Australian timber oil is pigmented (comes in a variety of colors) it both stains and seals the carving in about 2-3 coats. No need for anything else unless you want a glossy sheen, in that case you could follow it up with a SPAR coat. I now use mostly TWP1500 series, which is practically the same thing as Australian timber oil (TWP is much easier to get then ATO due to VOC laws)
      As far as kick back, I never had issues with the electric saw but I also haven’t had issue with gas either. Kick back will and does happen, but 98% of the time it’s expected. Rarely do I experience a surprise kick back, over time you just learn positions that make it more luckily. Happens a lot less with sprocket-less carving bars (like dime, quarter, and toonie tips)!
      Hope this helps!!!

  • @KingOtto-w2k
    @KingOtto-w2k Рік тому

    Question Tay : Did you start carving with a Dremel?
    I enjoy spending the evenings carving with a Dremel or Foredom in the barn. I've learned a lot about the importance of texture and proportion. I've started playing with chainsaw carving, but find myself hung up on detail...any advice?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому

      I started with the chainsaw, just went for it! A lot of the detail work comes down to having the rights tools and time behind the saw. When it comes to the detail work I almost image my saw as a big pencil that I’m etching detail with. What saws are you running with what bars? Having a good set up can make a huge difference! Do you have a carving bar?

    I've always wanted to carve a Bigfoot. What kinda wood do you use and is it wet or dry when you carve it? Also what do you do about cracks after it sits for awhile

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      I usually carve Eastern White Pine! I like my logs to sit for 3+ months unbarked so they start to check and I can strategically place the cracks towards the back or the piece. Applying a high quality timber or decking oil will help reduce large cracks from forming by slowing down the drying process. But crack really are unpreventable, so it’s best to work with them and embrace them when possible! Color matching the cracks to the carving helps blend them in too! Hope this helps!
