What a mesmerising video. The scruffy dude just doing his dance and running around without any regard for anyone - just living the moment. It all ties in perfectly. What a first class job of Carly and a pleasure to watch.
Back when this came on radio in the early 2000s I thought it was smooth and sounded so fun, especially when I thought she was saying 'clowns in the coffe'.
My dad loves this song so much anytime I play it it reminds me of him. He isn’t dead but whenever he plays this song or it comes on he smiles and I love seeing my dad stress free even for a couple minutes.
When I first heard this song I was still learning English and I thought that she was singing "mouse in my coffee", when in fact, was "clouds in my coffee"! It took a long time for me to realize my mistake.
I remember my parents having this album in the 70s. I remember the cover distinctly. No clue at the time what it was, I was born in 1969. This is definitely a timeless classic that deserves to be re discovered by the younger generations. Carly Simon was/is a beautiful singer that had such impact on many people, myself included. I was just a bit young at the time. I remember hearing it all the time in my dad's truck that only had AM radio.
My high school teacher used to always play this song on UA-cam real quiet on her laptop and every time I hear this I miss her so so much. She’s the only person who got me through high school when my ex was beating me up everyday and my family fell apart and me and my brother were split up and put in foster care with strangers. The only time I felt at home was when I would talk to her. I thank God for that workmen because I would of ended my life without her kindness and love.
For years my wife and I joked about who it was Carly was singing about, but if I had to guess- I would say a combination of James Taylor, Mick Jagger, Warren Beatty, and a few others. At any rate, its a beautiful song that both of us love and have fond memories of hearing as kids back in the late 70's.....just a lot of great pop songs back from those days, haha:-)

I believe music is timeless. Enjoy it anytime you please. It's great to discover older music. It opens up lots of new songs to listen to. I will never forget being a kid growing up in the late 70s/early 80s and discovering music from the 50s and 60s. It was great. Still is.
Gen X'er here. Strange how? The videos I grew up to, like Queen's _Bohemian Rhapsody,_ David Bowie's _Ashes to Ashes,_ Michael Jackon's _Thriller_ etc. seemed very normal. Many of today's selacious music videos would have been considered prawn back then.
First time I ever fell truly in love was when I heard this song on the radio, while travelling on a Crosville bus, here in UK near the Welsh Boarder, approaching Oswestry in England. We didn't have TV those days. It was years later I saw Carly Simon singing this song. It was wonderfully to finally see who it was I had fallen in love with. I was about age 12 at the time.

One of things that makes this video so enjoyable is that Carly is clearly having fun performing in it .... Everybody involved in making this recording in '72 did a great job: the session musicians, the backup singers (including Mick), the audio people who mixed the song, and Carly's lyrics. I still like listening to it 40 years later, because of the craftsmanship involved in making something of this quality. And analog sounds better, for some reason ....

Dear Carly Simon; God would like you to know that I love your music video called "You're So Vain" very much, and God also would like you to know THAT a song called "99 Luftballons" by Nena made me want to listen to your song called "You're So Vain." Sincerely, God and SarahTHOR-I3F
I was 11 yrs old when this song came out. I’m sure I have it on my old cassette tapes.. those I’d spend hours putting together from songs on my little black transistor radio. It definitely reminds me of my middle school days.. and I think I love it more today than back then..
Great song about three men, one of whom Carly said was Warren Beatty. Brilliant string arrangement by the late Paul Buckmaster, Jim Gordon's fabulous drumming, Klaus Voorman on bass, and Jimmy Ryan on guitar, with Carly on piano.
An elegant & beautifully strong songwriter of the early ‘70’s., & it’s a joy to watch how her demeanour has developed over the years. Strong, somewhat gallus and full of humour & charm. Carly, love how your personality has developed. I like this revamped version - Carly really knows her stuff. (Wishing her all the happiness & humour she brought us through her musical journey). Power to the generations of women who set the bar in their profession, for which, @ 69 yrs old, I’m most certainly one of millions. Over to you youngsters, don’t f.. it up, now!! Jane Russell
I've loved this from the moment it was released. To make a reference to the very song you're singing for purposes of sending a message is about as original as it gets.

Agreed. Plus Carly has always been SEXY as hell
This song doesn't seem to age ! When we're listening to it, we can't tell if it came out 10 years ago, in the 90s or the 70s (definitely not from the 80s!) Love it
Dear Carly Simon;
God would like you to know that I love your music video called "You're So Vain" very much, and God also would like you to know THAT a song called "99 Luftballons" by Nena made me want to listen to your song called "You're So Vain."
Sincerely,
God and SarahTHOR-I3F
I had no idea she made a video for this song after all those years. This is pretty cool.
You can't beat class and this girl has it in spades, a legendary song from 1972, you still look amazing Carly. Love this song......😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I was 11 yrs old when this song came out. I’m sure I have it on my old cassette tapes.. those I’d spend hours putting together from songs on my little black transistor radio. It definitely reminds me of my middle school days.. and I think I love it more today than back then..
I just left a comment. I was age 12 born in May 1960
She took the words right out of my mouth. Awesome video.
Carly your music made my day through my hardest times. God bless you. ❤️
I’m singing this for an audition. Could never do this song the justice it deserves 🙌
did you get the gig?
@@bebuchwebmaster2046 yes I did thank you! It was the best show I’ve ever been in :) so worth it :))
Great song about three men, one of whom Carly said was Warren Beatty. Brilliant string arrangement by the late Paul Buckmaster, Jim Gordon's fabulous drumming, Klaus Voorman on bass, and Jimmy Ryan on guitar, with Carly on piano.
I always thought it was about James Taylor, til I saw some comments on Reddit earlier today
She wasn't attractive or interesting enough for prime 70's Warren Beatty. He blazed a trail through Hollywood kitty that entire decade.
Love Mick Jaggers backing vocals also
An elegant & beautifully strong songwriter of the early ‘70’s., & it’s a joy to watch how her demeanour has developed over the years.
It’s about narcissism. So real and still pertinent. I thought it was pretty mild considering what she went through.
@O verdadeiro Sergio Ricardo Nope.
@jon jon Brasileiro She is like the Taylor Swift of the her era... Dated a lot of celebrities, and then compose songs about them. 😂😂😂
@O verdadeiro Sergio Ricardo Actually one of the verse is about Beatty. The other two verses (refers to her other two ex's) still remains anonymous.
@O verdadeiro Sergio Ricardo introducing multi-Oscar winner Warren Beatty as Shirley Macclains brother is the best shade ever. I approve.
@@shoWbitz She says it's about multiple exes but all those verses could apply to Warren Beatty. I think she said that to spare him
I've loved this from the moment it was released. To make a reference to the very song you're singing for purposes of sending a message is about as original as it gets.
Does anyone else think the video quality is very, very, very good for 1972?
Actually the video was done in 2010 per www.imdb.com/title/tt3422278/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_19 Love the song, but not the video particularly. Guess it just doesn't match the mental image I've had for 40 so years ;-)
Wow, I could've never guessed 2010 from how young she looks, she must have aged well!
Your right. She looks great!
When I was little I used to think all people randomly wrote songs about people and the whole world spent their free time figuring who it was about 😂
One of my favorite artists, she has a amazing voice!
Ho amato questa meraviglia di canzone e ogni volta che l'ascolto mi suscita sempre la stessa sensazione di allora e ritorno immediatamente e felicemente nel mio passato! Brava Carly Simon❤❤
Always a classic song......carly will always be a class act.....i love this version
The song is the same, the smile is the same, time has passed but this one has a face, so everything is the same. Mrs. Carly Simon is just as beautiful
70s, 80s and early 90s had the best music 🎵
oh boy so true
Painfully true
So true
Dream on. No way that was as good as we had in the 50's and sixties. That was the real music era. Before drugs destroyed artistic ability.
@@larrytischler570 I think what he really means is the best music was all of the music before the 21st century lol
I heard this 1st time at work today idk how but man i giggled whole song I usually hate music at work... Afternoon delights c'mon haha
Do you know the song "Afternoon Delight"? Hahaha!
Great song. I like watching the guy dance and strut!
Do you know who that dancer/actor is?
Dan D Mick Jagger
Yeah.... Right..... I know Mick,.... That ain't Mick. Even Mick wishes he had moves like that.
Love Mick the most,...But...He has the moves of an injured rooster... Haha.
It looks like Joaquin Phoenix to me.
Bonnie Oles is he gavotting?
J'étais au collège et ça me colle toujours à la peau en plus M.J. dans les cœurs. Dear Carly ❤❤❤
The right song for her style is a song to sing anytime.
Who's listening 🎶 👀 in 2024? She's a 💎 💎 gem!
The woman wrote an entire song about yours truly. Hell yeah I'm listening! 😁😁😁
56-year-old athlete, grew up listening in the back of my mom's car as she sold real estate, early 70's under 9 years old!

Me!!!
Carly Simon is the legend, ahead of her time and clearly describing the mental illness known as narcissism.
This reminds me of someone special..choked up ..tearing
This song is priceless! I never get tired of listening!
I am still in love with Carly Simon.
Is this the song Camille Vasquez was referring to??
Yes
This was the last song that played on the radio before my grandmother passed back in 2015. Shes not vain. Just proud. But the fact this song played before have kinda haunted me since... 😢
Great change down at 1:08
Carly is the best. This song reminds me of being 5 years old when my mom had this album playing on repeat every day.
I could listen to this song all day without getting tired to listen to it. ❤
For those of you playing along with the song, I am pretty sure that Ms Simon changes key down a half step during that slow part (2nd verse), so Am becomes A- flat minor and so on.
Love this. Great piano intro. Great vocals.
