Lyrics:
But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away
Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams I've yet to find
I am an old hippie...we had THE BEST MUSIC EVER....dont you think?
Was in diapers at the time, but yes I agree
This might be my fav of hers i was 12 that year
Yup thats a little bit ironic
What does an old hippie smell like? Better or worse than a young one? Hippies are entitled, disconnected, and lack general self awareness.
I was 5 years old and I like it @@coryburns9161
Listening to Carole and James back in ‘71 is where I fell in love with my high school sweetheart and we are still together 48yrs.
Congratulations for 48 years.

Awwwww!!!!
I watched a concert where Carol King while playing the piano and James Taylor while strumming the guitar sang "You've Got a Friend". Both were old already, probably in their early 60's.

@@jamespyacek2691 no need to poop on current people. I enjoy Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Gladys, Aretha, Dionne, and many many others. Times change, but good singing remains good singing. That said, this video is just delicious to the ears.
@@jamespyacek2691 Try something besides the radio.
Yes, music now isn't even music. At least, popular music isn't. There is still good music out there, but it's not the popular stuff. I've listened to rare bands, local bands, etc., stuff that isn't well-know, and there is still some wonderful and amazing music being made.
But the popular 'music'. Blech. Not even music. Just supposedly good-looking people dressed up is silly sparkly costumes, lip synching to garbage. You don't have to be talented, or be able to sing, or anything - all you have to do is look good. And even that's questionable, since a huge part of is is plastic surgery.
@@ssinssg But there is a need to poop on current people. It's garbage.
They were better days then. Life was less complicated and folk were nicer. I miss those days. The world is so dark now.
Your so right , a lot better back then🤗🙏

I was born in 76 and recall my parents listening to this and I am an older soul. I agree with you that people and times back then were way kinder and less dark. Music was mellow and peaceful as well. I like a large variety of music, but agree with you all on so many levels.

Just raw talent. No flashing lights. No gyrating bodies. No dancers in the background. Just three instruments and one voice.
There is nothing "raw" about either of these talents. They were both very sophisticated songwriters and musicians even at this early stage in their careers.
“Raw” doesn’t mean unsophisticated or unRefined. It means nothing but talent. Period. No visual enhancements like lights, lasers, dancers. No auto-tune. No cadre of background singers. Just a piano, a guitar, and two great voices.
Exactly👌👌❤️❤️❤️❤️
BIG UP RESPECT !

@@beagle7622 the date of this show was the day Tapestry was released in 1971...
@@lylestavast7652 It’s too late flew up the charts but my favourite was always “You’ve got a friend” written by James who was from memory going through a hard time . I bought the LP in August 71 cost me $5.25 Australian..
Carole has so many great songs. But this is my favorite. "It would be so fine to see your face at my door..." For some reason, that line really resonates with me.
Me too...sometimes with a little tear.
The Tapestry album was a landmark. Perfect. Understated.
I was 10. The album was transformative.
Me too born 1963 & 1970s seem like yesterday ( we all had our hopes & dreams.).

wrong. You just don't know where to look. and you gave up
Carole King had stage fright and just wrote songs through the 60s. James talked her into performing her songs. The rest is history.
We used to have a wonderful country, didn’t we?
Yep, sad times we are living in now.
Glad I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, but now I have more years behind me than in front of me.
We can again, be sure to vote for those who love our democracy and aren't interested in controlling us.
There's a real mean spirit in government today . 😮
We will again soon. Trump2024!!!! It will be a fight. It is worth it. Buckle up!!!
they are certainly sad times. with people pushing the political lines while carol is singing.
Man what have we lost? Why don't we have singer songwriters like this anymore, and if they're still out there why don't we hear about them?
Taylor Swift...but not her singles, many of them are 😵💫 and are skips for me. Do a deep dive of any of her albums and there are so many hidden gems that sadly do not grace the ears of many listeners.
Try Cowboy Like Me, Treacherous, Carolina, The Best Day, Seven, and a gazillion more. Once again, her singles are mostly skips except for a handful. Also, many of her songs are not about boyfriends or exes. 😅
And oh, even Carole King only has awesome things to say about her. Taylor gave the speech when Carole was inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame.
Another suggestion, John Mayer. Enjoy!

Back when the instruments didn't drown out the voices ?
Love Carole King, but who would arrange her song in such a manner in which piano obviously drowns out the whole baseline, and smothers the guitar ? Someone who just wants to share a stage with two friends, regardless of their instrumentation?

You truly appreciate this song when the people thats been in your life forever start passing away.
Wow, my exact sentiments!
I'm 74 , retired and navy veteran . We lived in the best generation for music and real talent. Carol King is a legend and so is James Taylor. I was listening to a song yesterday by Greg Lake ( E.L.P.) when he was 12 years old. " Lucky Man " . So many memories !!!
I first saw James Taylor in the movie " 2 lane blacktop " Does anyone remember what a sailcat was in the movie ?
I was 16 in ‘71. By ‘73 I was enlisted in the Navy. I had a jr. high and sr. High school sweetheart. I was from Sacramento and stationed in Norfolk. This song held us together for a while. Time and distance ended our relationship. But hearing this takes me back to high school.
This is very good, but early jazz beats 60s and 70s music rock. I can't think of a more impactful song than Strange Fruit.
This record was the beloved go to record for teenage depression. We'd put it on and wallow deliciously
Listening to her in 2022. I'm a 90 baby. Also a bartender by the grace of God. And at my bar i play the 70s. And whenever she comes on i have to stop and acknowledge her and this song. My entire bar freezes for one second in reality and it's beautiful. Thank you Carole for this song
Sounds like a cool bar 😎

I am here on Mother's day 2022 because my mother loved James Taylor and this song is exactly how I feel about missing her. She died in 1997 and every year she gets further and further away and there's nothing I wouldn't do to have her see the grandchildren she never met, to tell her how much I think about her every day. This song drives me to tears every time I hear it because it's so genuine, so pure, it's everything I feel today and every mother's day when I am reminded of her loss.
🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
If there were a love button I would hit it for your comment!
For a son to lose his mother,I think is the biggest heartbreak we will ever feel. I know that's how I feel . She was to young to go. 52. I think part of my heart died that day for sure.🙏🏴
Im sorry for your loss. I’m going to go hug my mom and stay to talk to her for a long time.

I still remember being 9 years old and my mom would play Tapestry non-stop all day Sat and all day Sun. I fell in love with that voice was so pure and perfect.
Same...my mom did the same when I was 10.
Over and over and on and on and on while mom cleaned the house all day Saturday. The sun lit up the living room in upstate New York. And mom played tapestry on our long hi-fi stereo with radio and 8 track tape player and turntable
Me too. We had one of those all in one turn table stereos.

I have such a huge ultra-crush on Carole King. The most authentic & talented songwriter/composer in the history of pop music. Her genius is in what's NOT there. Her ability to get deep inside of your heart with only voice & piano (with a bit of subtle guitar & bass background) is unparalleled. The EPITOME of the 'Natural Woman' she wrote about in one of her most enduring songs. 100% gorgeous. 💖
She has an inner beauty as well as an outer beauty, who could not help fall in love with her!
