Thanks for giving me something to connect with my mother. Thanks Kim
This song is a Evergreen and still and forever in my heart.
NINGUÉM ama esta música mais que eu❤💝💖
Bette Davis' eyes deserve it.
They tease you after they seduced you saying to you, '' I like to Kiss you, but i ve just washed my hair..bye!''
First time hearing this song my favourite now
whoever is hearing this song in nowadays, You have a good taste of music mate.

it's great stuff! It actually tells a good story, not to mentions sounds great! 👍
I was a baby when these songs were made but boy I've been listening to this 80s music & wish I was there back then but we are here so we can imagine what it must have been to live it real-time.
@@nyahwe I know how U feel, this song made me miss the 80s even tho I wasn’t born yet :(

Yes I am

Yes, with great joy and satisfaction.
Damn right
❤❤❤❤❤
The fact that people these days don't know who Bette Davis is but still completely understand what this song means is great.
The fact that some people don't know who the iconic Bette Davis is truly is sad. Then again, the first producer who saw her initially said he saw no one who looked like a star and she was that and so much more. Those haunting eyes, that dramatic acting, that unmistakable voice... There will ever only be one Bette Davis.
Just another example of how BAD ASS!! the music from the 80's was and still is..!!
.... and always will be :)
DomBros. Tradition I'm with you, and I was born in 85
DomBros. Tradition Today's mainstream music will NEVER topple the 80's.
how about the music from the 60's and 70's, not to take away from the 80's since I had a lot of fun in college back in the 80's, but I grew up with the bands that inspired these bands
Lived them all and the 80s, HANDS DOWN, killed it.
It’s comforting to know that this masterpiece is still appreciated by all of you wonderful people.

Husky, raspy voice of Ms KC was absolutely amazing ❤🎸🎶👍
Una voz icona y Trascendente en el Tiempo musical para siempre
Here that , good beat , luv it. Her voice is so amazing.... Can listen over and over...Thanks Kim!
"Actress Bette Davis, at the time 73 years old, wrote letters to Carnes, Weiss, and DeShannon to thank all three of them for making her "a part of modern times" and said her grandson now looked up to her. After their Grammy wins, Davis sent them roses as well."

Jeez, That croak in Kims voice when she sings the chorus is just perfect ! ! ! !.

Music speaks to us in the language of eternity.
Appreciate this song SO MUCH MORE now than I did back in '81 (I was 10, focused heavily on 'Star Wars', 'Star Trek', James Bond and 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'). I am amazed that this song has never gotten old. It's WAY superior to most of the crap passing as today's music.
there's something spectacularly special about the sound of 80s!
It's because the synthesizer was so prevalent in the 80's. Furthermore, use of the synthesizer implies that the atmosphere is quiet, and who doesn't like peace and quiet? In a room full of noise one might still be able to hear a guitar being plucked in the corner but a synthesizer would be lost in the din. So when our mind hears a synthesizer it is happy because that means the atmosphere must be quiet enough for our ears to hear it.
80s music has all those bouncy tunes, even with a somewhat dark tone in the lyrics, while in the 90s it was all angst. Now that I said that, Jackie DeShannon recorded this in 1974 as more of an R&B take.
They had life tougher but were still hopeful....
True !
I think part of the magic is that music was defined by talent more than appearence. Now you just need to have a "look" and auto-tune will handle the rest. When you open up the field to even the "ugly" people, you are exposing yourself to a wider range of talent and potentially great music. When your looks are what matters most, the field narrows drastically.

In my case, I find this hit to be erotically hypnotic for some reason. Guess that could explain why it's one of the longest charting #1 hits of all time for that reason.

Anyone listening in 2024? This is another one of those early (for me) tunes that I remember very well. I didn't understand the song at the time, but it was Kim's vocals that were captivating - and at that age, I didn't have the words to describe it, I only know that it grabbed me and held me for the entire song. Still does. The 80s were truly a magic decade as far as music is concerned.

If you just close your eyes and listen to this song, it will take you back to early 80s. At a pizza parlor, with an old fashion music jukebox, two standing arcade games of Defender and Pac-Man side by side, pitchers of root beer and Coke next to your freshly ordered pizza. The polyurethane finished wooden table and bench with some wear and tear and some minor random graffiti on them. Perhaps a basketball game with Bird and Magic showing on the flickering TV. A worn poster of Empire Strikes Back on one wall and a new Rocky III poster on the opposite wall. You slowly eat your pizza because you just want to soak in the moment and not go back home to study for tomorrow's history test. All the while, your neck is stretch from watching the main door, wondering if your crush is going to walk in there anytime tonight.
Are you describing Teds Pizza in Rutland Vt? I guess every town has one but remember playing this on the juke box as an eight year old. All you described.
how the good times go by...
We never even realized how good we had it. I kind of feel sorry for kids today. Yes they have a lot of cool toys and the Internet is really cool and all that. But I think the miss the social interaction we had as kids. Sorry about the rant. Your comment just took me down memory lane while my kids were playing in the floor. Makes me wonder if they'll get to make memories like that or if it's will all just be in a text message
+Joshua Rector as a teen right now I wish I could go see what the 80s was like for just one day. The movies and music make the atmosphere seem so cool. I even wear Starter jackets and Air Jordan One's to pretend I'm in the 80s. 😂
+Ayk Joker You wouldn't want to come back. It was as great as you think it was. If you really want to see what it was like, at least in California, watch "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", if you haven't already. +Ric Flair, thank you for such an accurate depiction and killer memory!

When I was pregnant with my son 20 years ago, every time this would come on the radio or I would play it, he would start dancing in my belly. After he was born it continued. Car seat dancing. Hanging onto the sofa dancing. Grabbing mom to dance. And of course as soon as he started talking he was singing it. Today it’s part of his play list along with some of the other best of the time. ❤
That is adorable. Love it.
I suppose your son son was born in 2002 just 4 years before the birth of my son, Back in 2003 I was constantly listening to this song but I was not pregnant obviously I'm a man

I am 75 and remember growing up watching Bette Davis reruns. The song goes a long way in capturing Bette Davis. But Kim Carnes has by far done a superlative performance of this song. I remember Kim's rendition of this song in the early 1980's

She has so many great songs.. and has always been humble, classy, and she just exudes confidence. Kim just has this glow about her... This is her most famous track forever but there's a lot of other fantastic KC tunes. Icon!
Apparantly, Bette Davis heard the song, and liked it. That was a few years before she died (1989). And indeed, there was all of a sudden a new generation who wanted to know who the heck was the great but almost forgotten Davis. Loved her in Petrified Forest, in All about Eve and in the lesser known anti McCarthyism-movie Storm Center (1956), probably the first time Hollywood dared to reply to the former Senator and his croonies.
" former Senator and his croonies (sic)" .. who were of course proven completely right, courtesy of the Verona Cable intercepts.
Nichetronix Venona :)
Sorry +Nichetronix, but "proven completely right" is a gross and misleading characterization of actual history. The fact is that the majority of people Senator McCarthy accused as having communist ties had no connection to any communist political or governmental organization, or any real indication as being communist sympathizers other than the suspicions of McCarthy and his ilk. Of course he was correct about some he dragged through the mud, but only for the same reason a broken clock tells the correct time twice a day! :p
That alone is bad enough, but his self-appointed "crusade" also showed contempt to some of the most fundamental concepts of the country he supposedly treasured, like "freedom of expression" and "innocent until proven guilty". He was often more subversive to such ideals than anyone he tried to expose...
Areanyusernamesleft In a nutshell, he simply was a political opportunist. If he would have lived under Stalin, he would have caused the downfall of Beria, and taken his place.
Yes, Kim tells that they met and Miss Davis thanked her because "now my grandchildren know I was great". Amazing story! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.
OMG her voice is absolutely magnificent
Yeah, sounds like she's smoked a pack of cigarettes before she's sang. You need to learn real talent.

No autotune! No mimicking! No pretentiousness! Just Pure Raw Genious! Pure Awesomeness! I was there back in the early 80’s witnessing this timeless classic reaching the stardom!
You’re kidding, right? This is about as over-produced as song can be and not sound like a robot singing.
I am an old Boomer now...By the end of the 1970s, I had pretty much given up on popular music, having been so immersed in the fabulous 1960s, and early 1970s music explosion...But when MTV showed up, I began to appreciate such masterful artists as this fine, talented woman!...A voice almost like Rod Stewart, looks like a supermodel, and incorporating very infectious Synthethiser riffing!...She deserved to be a major force in the ensuing decades. Her career behind the music scenes is very interesting. I admire this woman very much!

Sorry dude. I lost my dad when I was 21. That was 83. Then my first wife and I split in 85. Then though I met the love of my life. So the 80s bring back some bittersweet memories. Oh and my first wife looked like Kim Carnes.
This song defined my childhood. I distinctly remember waking up to this song after having eye surgery, this song playing on the radio. I had no idea whether I would be able to see at all, but this song playing in the background, comforted me, its light, memorable guitar line echoing through the post-operation room. As much as I tried to open my eyes, they remained shut, as if stitched shut. At only 8 years old, and unsure of whether I would see again, I clutched onto my mother's hand, trembling in fear. My mom reassured me that the operation was a success, and that I would see with time. As this song played on, I felt her move her hands to the throbbing beat of this song, and I once more willed open my eyes, a shadowy figure of my mom emerging from my small slit of vision. As this song ended, I felt a tear land on her hand -- and then Credence Clearwater Revival began to play.
I love this story omg and then credence what could be better. Miracles of good strong women and music.
