      I personally love BMW'S, after looking at my uncle's used e60 530d (ik it's a diesel, ofc they would be kinda reliable) it has like 300k km and still hauls like a mf with no major issue whatsoever, just general maintenance. Well it all depends on how you take care of your car tbh, i think ppl that buy toyotas (etc.) just don't care about service intervals (I'm a carguy who loves every build, as long as it has a purpose)

    Re: Auctions. This car will be bought by a used car dealer for $4k, and then put on a used car lot and sold to some poor soul who will finance the car at 10% interest rate, and pay $12k for it. They will drive it for a few months until the fuel pumps fail, and then not have $5k to fix it, nor will they be able to pay off the $12k loan and will have no car to drive to work.
    Meanwhile a fan of the show who knows the issue and cost with full disclosure would buy it as a second car, and fix it while only paying $4k for the car.
    Hoovie - you’re sending some poor soul literally in to bankruptcy by selling it at auction.

    • @gasfiltered
      @gasfiltered 4 роки тому +23

      You can rebuild the pumps pretty cheap, ~$200 or so, Tyler just needed a good story. If you finance a car with no warranty, you do so knowing the second you sign the paper that it could fail before you pull off the lot. Don't finance cars. Ever. And even the shadiest bank won't finance a 13 year old BMW. A buy-here-pay-here lot will usually take it back because it's better to keep you paying on something than have you walk away from a worthless car.

    • @AdelAlqadi1
      @AdelAlqadi1 4 роки тому +3

      @@gasfiltered I wouldn't say never finance a car, but if you do, make sure it has a nice warranty. CarMax for example might upcharge used cars and don't haggle, but they have an unbeatable warranty for a used luxury car

    5:30 As someone who owns and works on BMW’s, NEVER go to the dealership for parts especially for a car that old. I did one search on eBay for the fuel pumps, and I found multiple OEM lightly used or new examples for around $500 or even a bit less than that. Also if you were to get another BMW I’d recommend the E38 740i or 750i. I got my 740 around 2-3 years ago, and I put about $8k into it for new parts and a transmission rebuild. It has run with no lights on ever since. The most I’ve done to it is an oil change. If you were to go that route, I’d also recommend a facelifted model between 2000-2001

      the N73 HPFP's share some internal stuff like the membranes with other, cheaper OEM Bosch parts for other brands (Ford, VW) so you could have them rebuilt probably. Also worthwhile to check if there are any recalls for these V12 fuel pumps because BMW issues HPFP recalls for the N54 inline six back in the day

    Just a heads up anyone looking for a 2006-2008 BMW 750, it’s not as bad is it sounds if you’re mechanically inclined. Most of the work is workable for the newbie mechanic. The $5000 fuel pump he’s talking about could be bought for $300-$500 a pair. Not OEM but good enough for the life of the car.
    If you go to the BMW forums, you’ll actually understand how cheap it actually is to own. BUT!!! If you’re not mechanically inclined at all, it’ll be expensive. I’ve owned my 2006 750Li for 5 years and 90k KMs (50k miles approx). It hasn’t cost much more than my 2007 Accord and it costs less than my 2007 Avalanche (truck).
    It really is a nice car and you have to own one to actually appreciate the simplicity of it. There’s a bunch of electronics inside but the electronics don’t really fail. If it does, it’s likely an amplifier, alternator or battery replacement.

      I’m In The uk, I have had a string of VWs over the last 14 years, I still have the first golf I ever got when I was 21, v6 4motion golf, it has been as loyal as a dog to me over these years, started every time, yeah I have done a lot of standard servicing. But that’s it. Only German cars in America seam to be a pain.

      I think maintenance is not too bad, especially if you do the simple stuff yourself (oil changes, filters, spark plugs etc). Repairs will cost arm and leg and more though.

      R S well you say that, what the reality is, is that most of the German cars you have in the US are not made in Germany they are made in Mexico, and made badly by poorly trained workers. Where in the UK most out German cars are made in Germany and the rest in other EU country’s. And they just last so much better, with very little faults over there life time

    I love how bmw owners describe their problems in the comments and how they repaired things, how much they spend on repairs etc.

      lol that is NOT true. I just returned my Toyota avensis that I leased in 2016, the worst car I have ever owned. Loud motor noise, crappy electric steering, too stiff and bumpy suspension, super cheap interior like door handles and such. And it broke down one time per year. After that I invested $2000 in my old e39 and now I have a fast and comfortable car that is better in every aspect, except for age. Oh yeah, my old bimmer uses less fuel also :)

I know when I shut my bathroom door i have between 20-40 minutes of peace, tranquility, and alone time before someone notices I'm not around.

      Those usually aren’t going to last long you know. Problem is they are expensive new because pump is engine specific so they are very rare and low production. So example 335i, same type of pump costs 800-900$ new and of course it is only one per car, not two.

    There has got to be a way to source pumps that meet the same spec. My Volvo was broke down in the UP of Michigan and needed ;a pump. The only garage in this little town needed to order one and would be 4 days. I asked them to look up GM pumps for small displacement engines. They had a Pontiac pump that worked on 4 cylinder cars. They pulled the Volvo, I swapped the wires, they put it in. Drove it for another 100k.
