The main theme is called "Elaine's Theme" and indeed is both very beautiful and hunting just perfect for the movie, it was composed by Morton Stevens, I saw this movie back in 1973 in El Salvador, one Saturday night with my older sister, we both got the shivers and since the beginning I really love the score, greetings from Vancouver

I just had to comment again, I finally got to meet patty this past sunday, such a sweetheart, i showed her a copy of my "she waits" book, and she told me, she didnt think the movie was bad after all, i was told she didnt care for it, but maybe she has a change of heart, she also said she loved working with david mccallum, and would like to play his girlfriend on NCIS lol. she also laughed at the book, she couldnt believe i had it, or that she was on the front cover. love this movie

Loved this movie. Great cast. Patty Duke is on of the greats. Her sharing her personal battles with mental illness was so courageous and amazing. Nobody was doing that back then. She literally helped to save the lives of millions of people. I just love her movies too, especially her 70's stuff. Although we all know miracle worker at what? 12? Amazing to behold. One of the most amazing performances caught on film by a man woman or child.

Nowadays people have confused horror with gore / disgust. Now that's what is called a horror movie. I strongly believe that it is so underrated...

You say nowadays, I agree, but I also feel the horror/gore misunderstanding began way back in the 80s , once we started having movies like Friday the 13th etc. Nightmare on elm. Those movies were so boring , it was all about the slash at the expense of a good (horror) story line,

@@obiedrier4841 I was a horror movie fanatic until, 7 months pregnant at 22, I went to the theater, sat with hubby and watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I left at the end upset, shaken, pretty much assaulted and molested, because who the hell knew THAT was coming? But I never complained to hubby, nor did he complain to me. We were just weirdly silent till we got home to our baby girl with the sitter. The love affair ended that night. We didn't get back together until I got TCM free with my rent and rediscovered old classic horror. TCM is damn stingy with it, too. You can watch 25 war/military movies to every one horror classic. Today, you can hardly even see a ghost story that isn't riddled with ugliness, cruelty and grief. Younger people all pretend to each other that they love it and aren't scared by it. And on it goes, horror movies getting worse, then worse yet, while few in the easy target audience dare speak out and appear uncool. It's one of those "the market decided" deals. How do we like it?

Great cast, great movie! I still have a hard time believing that Patty Duke is no longer with us. One actor who hasn't been mentioned is Lew Ayres as the doctor - similar to his role in the "Dr. Kildare" movie series. Also, check out his role in "The Dark Mirror" (1946) with Olivia de Havilland, another wonderful psychological thriller. He was also quite the heartthrob in the 1930s. Dorothy McGuire's performance as a deaf-mute servant in "The Spiral Staircase" (1946) is another suspense classic!

I love her but love her husband too. One of the funniest men alive, perfectly deadpan with the most hilarious lines. In a cowboy movie, he played a newly rich cattle man or something, went back east and got dressed up and attended a ball. On the orchestra dais, among the instruments was a viola or cello. John Astin's character loped up on the dais, pulled his six-shooter and told the man in a disgusted growl, "Get that big fiddle out from between your legs. There are ladies present!" They seem to have had a good kid, too, just the one I'm familiar with, don't know if they had more.

    • @Carly8Corday

Probably did! All flicks period seemed to, even the mainstream Dirty Harry movies sounded bad, because it wasn't popular to spend a lot on a musical score, viewers certainly weren't whining for it. That's got to be why all rock and roll was strictly generic, ditty-bop and bubblegum, fingernails on a chalkboard and always the same noise, barely music at all. Bet good music in a movie cost a lot then and still does now.

Seems like in that house people don't listen to each other. How many times does the mother have to tell them not to stay there? Why are they so stubborn? Who wants to stay in that dark old place anyways?
You could be sipping cocktails at the bar, jump into the pool, fill your plate at the buffet. Instead you want to run around screaming in this old house.

Does anyone know anything about the music box theme song? The name, the creator? I've found it recently in a gamer song track. It is due at least for the recognition to the author. Thanks

AudreyJan1961 from what i can tell, 'She Waits' was a movie made for television, with its composer being Morton Stevens (also known for doing music for such shows as Hawaii Five-0)..i recognized this theme music from another production two years later, entitled 'A Beautiful Killing', as a part of ABC's Wide World of Entertainment: Wide World Mystery, a story about murders occurring at a health spa..it was very commonplace in those days for music scores to be re-used..and yes, this is a beautiful piece of music...

NOt really a horro film as such because ..minor spoilers, see below to continue..
WHen Elaine supposedly possessed L aura she does not give an account of what transpires but rather what Marks mother believes to be true. So this "posession" is really a state of hyper suggestion and involuntary mind control unleashed by the mothers own internal demons such guilt, trauma and anxiety and memories or rather perceptions of Elaine. This family itself is rather odd with weird dynamics which preceeded Elaine. It is likely that Elaine herself was also affected adversely Marks mother and Marks coldness and dismissiveness. But that is just speculation.
