If it wasn't for Karen she paved the way for other horror damsels like Jaime Lee Curtis, Amy Irving, Sissy Spaciek, & Linda Blair. +Tom RipsinLove old films. I can see how a mall looked in the 1970's here. Do you or anyone else know what that beeping sound in the mall is? The sound starts at 11:16 and starts again at 11:44 & again at 12:06. The beeping sound continiues when she exits the store after the wig scene. I was curious because another old film (I think A Christmas Story)had the same beeping sound. What is it?

    • @tomripsin8321
      @tomripsin8321 9 років тому +2

      +ToxicGhostVideos To the best of my knowledge, those little bells were like a 'code' from departments of the store that needed manager assistance or approval for a transaction, or needed to make a cash drop or get change during the business day. It's the department store equivalent of a grocery cashier turning their light on for assistance. I remember them being used in department stores when I was very young, although you would still hear them being used in movies and TV for 'shopping sounds' long after they went out of use in actual department stores.

    I can't believe I found this! I was only 10 years old when it aired. Loved these old "Movie of the Week" shows. The networks put out good quality back then. Our society was so much better. We had "community" as it were only having 3 major networks and 2 UHF stations. Everyone could talk about the movies or programs the next day. If you missed it, too bad. There were no recorders then. Same thing with the Christmas and Thanksgiving Specials. If you missed Rudolph, you had to wait until the next year.

    I don't get why people seem to be hating this movie. It's one of the better 70s movies I've seen. It has only a few really 70s editing moments (awkwardly cutting off music in scene transitions, barely related stock shots padding out the movie, bad dubbing, that kind of thing), the story is cohesive and mysterious, keeping you guessing, the acting is awesome, it doesn't overstay it's welcome, and is paced well. The only reason I can think that people might not like it is because they think it will be like modern movies, but old, instead of being a product of it's time...

      maichiki yiist - (love your name may or my cheeky) That's what I'm thinking too. Sad that people can't appreciate things created before their time. I grew up watching old black and white movies from the 20s - 40s and understood that they were using different technology as well as different special effects materials and so on. I focused on the story-telling, but also enjoyed the novelty of something "old," that now we call "vintage." It makes people seem intellectually shallow.

      ***** yeah well the wigs and make up obviously still exist today, and in much more excess. come on it's a movie... you can't expect there to be none of that, but that doesn't make it sleazy. hell even in real life, go outside and most people are wearing make up.

    The seventies was a time as a child when you were excited to watch tv at night, you always knew something good would be on television with 6 channels. The TV Guide was so popular, the excitement of finding that favorite TV show and the only option of waiting for it to come on at it’s scheduled time.......
