Very nice last note, like a last miracle !
As far as opera singers go- she will be forever the 8th wonder of the opera world. BLESS YOU, EDITA!
Rip marveleus soprano.Edita Gruberova.In this performance she was 72 years . .23/12/1946--18/11/2021
She just did a tour this month October 2019 in China with four major orchestras (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, xiamen) and people are getting crazy about her. She outsold ALL previous opera artists, male and female, including Anna Nebtreko, Kaufman, Cecilia bartoli, Angela Gheoghui, Renne Fleming and Kathleen Battle, Jessy, Norman, etc., and broke ALL records in sales and LIVE broadcasting (1.5 millions viewers).
Quite interesting as I thought the microphone never really caught her true voice, which was considerable in its time in the right repertoire.
BRAVISSIMA GRUBEROVA
Gruberova make's me smile. Sometime's it's almost unbearable though. But it's still electrifying. And i do like that!
unbeliveable and no trace of her singing at Paris opera
Well, she actually made the final eflat!!!!
@@ian1856 Sadly, Gruberova who was a very fine singer in her day - I heard her a few times live in her heyday - went on way too long in the girlish bel canto roles and insisted on continuing with the acuti. I always thought she was better in Strauss and the German rep anyway.
@@ian1856 After seeing Sutherland in these great roles, I found Gruberova rather how shall we say unsuitable. She was lovely in Capuleti in 1984 at Covent Garden, but there's really no coloratura in that part. Strangely I believe Sutherland or more correctly Bonynge steered her into these roles after his wife's retirement in 1990 and he conducted her in quite a few, especially in Barcelona. I wonder what he really thought?
@@ian1856 Some of his Australian protégées were better I thought: Deborah Riedel for example who died tragically young. Bonynge was always seeking another great soprano voice but no one could come close to La Stupenda! In any case, the operatic world has changed so much now that I don't think the conditions exist for such a voice to emerge now really.
@@ian1856 I recall at Sutherland's farewell in 1990, Hugh Canning commented in the interval after Sutherland, Horne and Pavarotti had done their turns that singers of this kind were an endangered species. There is so much reliance on looks and acting now (nothing wrong with those of course) but ABOVE the voice itself that careers are very short today. I write this on the day that Christa Ludwig's sad death is announced. Interestingly both her parents were opera singers and she had many years in post-War Germany to develop her craft before a very long career. But even she had a mini-crisis in the early 70s by attempting unsuitable roles (Lady Macbeth?) so I think the voice is unique in music in that it's part of the body. I wonder what awaits the "post-covid" operatic world?
@@ian1856 Quite. Did you see her in her great roles in Vienna? I only saw her once in the 1989/90 ? Candide concert with Bernstein in London.
Where does that passion come from ?
I'm so sad it's the last opera stage.
Her voice and she are one- her long time college said that.
I like Kálmándi's Enrico
Where was this performance?
Erkel Theatre, Budapest
Btw, Kolonits is also worth to listen to in the same role in the same theatre ;)
Couldn’t agree with you more ~ Klára Kolonits was spectacular in this production alternating with Edita. It was a passing of the baton indeed. I am blessed to have witnessed each performance.
Bloody hell!
Ha ragione la Callas che ride
No supo retirarse a tiempo...ni modo...
At least the 30-year-older Edita Gruberova's Eb6, still sounds WAY BETTER than today's Diana Damrau, what a vocal technique showcase ! (oops sorry, Diana Damrau has been UNABLE to reach Eb6 since 2018, not sorry🤪)
don't bother bringing up the acting. Furthermore, not even the Chinese film industry wants Diana Damrau, so nope, Diana Damrau can't sing nor act, she's just a clown.
True. And even so, Diana Damrau is leaps and bounds above Netrebs.
Fortunately Gruberova was much kinder to Damrau than you are.
@@Feisenbach and that "fortunately" kind attitude from Gruberova to Diana Dumbrau makes Dumbrau think she sing very well, but that's really a good thing cuz Gruberova still got to keep her high registers at 70s but Dumbrau already lost all her notes above C6 because everyone around her are smart enough not to tell her she screeches and she goes on screaming to ruin her voice by mid 40s😉
@@James-sh7kx What a stupid comment. Gruberova liked and respected Damrau, but she certainly wouldn't have liked your comment at all. The only clown here is you.
@@Feisenbach yeh yeh yeh, speaking from someone other than Gruberova....blah blah blah...
