Very very great singing for someone so YOUNG! And it was nice to hear Miss Gruberova approach the High E flat in a different way than her usual style. I'm very impressed with her at such a young age , singing an operatic role so well. I miss the Italian language though.
For all of the people "wishing" she would be singing in Italian, she's sung it in Italian numerous times, I believe... Obviously she got hired to sing it this way... So, go listen to another recording/video, or, listen to her singing in 1968. Your choice!

Splendido. Ma è normale, in quell'epoca si cantava nella lingua dei vari popoli. Perciò,non se ne può essere contenti,ma la Gruberova, col suo genio ha superato questo limite. Poi è passata alle lingue originali ed è rimasta grande.

She was a workhorse on her technique (Had a conversation with Met soprano Gail Robinson once who nodded and narrowed her eyes with a smile and said, "Quite a technician"), and it was good enough even then to go ahead and assay this role. Interesting to see as she sang more Italian, her voice became a bit darker. And coupled with that Slavic sense of space... NOBODY else like her.
She is so sweet. In which language is Edita singing? Slovak or Czech? In the then Czechoslovakia there was discrimination of the slovak people and culture.

The acting is terrible. Slovakian and Verdi don't mix. She started sliding into high notes shortly after this.
