    You are one lucky duck!! A gorgeous colony, boxed up and ready to roll, and it came with spare, brand-spanking new virgin queens! There might've been a few hiccups, but all in all, a job splendidly done~

    The sale of the house will close tomorrow, so you must (1) locate the bees, (2) open the wall, (3) remove the bees, (4) repair the wall, and (5) write a letter informing the buyer that everything is okay now. ... and while you're at it, how 'bout fixin' a couple of leaky faucets, and the roof should be re-shingled, and then re-paint the living room, and then .......

      Haaa! They always wait until the last minute and then have a bunch of hoops for me to jump through. I did two others last week that had just rented and need bees out immediately. I guess I should quit everything else I have going on and set up my office at the fire department for these life threatening emergencies they call me with. I can't complain though. I enjoy it too much.

      All the niceness goes away the instant you set the rate at $100/hr plus expenses for a guy who wears six hats. Beekeeper, carpenter, roofer, siding installer, hvac tech, exterminator, and flooring specialist.

      I've done bee removals where we repaired the damages too. One comes to mind where masonry and a scaffold was involved and the bill was in the thousands. I've run into ppl that think it's going to be free as well. Uh uh. I was not kidding about $100/hour.

    I had a friend who left an open carton of orange juice on a picnic table. When he returned, he took a swig and spit out a bunch of yellow jackets. I used his experience to write a poem called "Mouthful of Bees." Sounded better than the other bugs. I got an A.

      My dad got the brite idea of using straws to drink soda pop on camping trip. . It was long ago when you had to use a church key to open a can. The idea was to keep the 'bees' out.
      Yellow jackets crawled into the straw and dad got sent to the ER with stings inside his mouth. Ouch.

    I watch you do all of these cutouts un-suited. I have done two cutouts, they swarmed out to sting the gloves, hundreds of stingers in my gloves, trying to get my face, pheromones everywhere, people stung anywhere near the work being done for two days on one case, hundreds of feet. They are still mean enough to swarm me in the hive. I am to the point of never doing another cutout over this.... What gives? My hives are suit-less gentle, no veil. Stark contrast.

    • @bwakel310
      @bwakel310 6 років тому +1

      jsauerii African bees?

    • @jsauerii
      @jsauerii 6 років тому

      I don't honestly think so, I think its just bad luck but? I think the first had a weak queen and became a laying worker plus queen colony, had multiple hive beetles and varoaa even in multiples with the workers that were just hatching out and they well out numbered by the drones in that colony, they were super thick. They are still in that laying worker pattern and I am just going to dump them.
      The second I think had just swarmed, they were full of queen cells, had quite a few hive beetles etc. Somehow they failed to make queen with the many cells they had with the full frame cutout combs I had given them with many queen cells and when I checked them three weeks later they were still meaner than hell and had hatched everything with not a single egg or capped brood left in the cell, not even a worker egg. They were hell on the honey though but again it took hundreds of feet of walking to get them off of me to get done with the job. I don't want their genetics in anything i have. Oddly they had been in that porch 5 years and they had been super gentle the guy said. This year they changed and would attack anyone all year. He was ready to burn the porch off the house. They were attacking the AC unit en mass when I showed up to remove them and for the two days it took me, just to show you how aggressive they were. They were getting chopped up but dumping enough pheromones that more kept arriving to be slaughtered even though the AC was around the other side of the house out of sight of the hive. I will let them die down and dump them and give one of my recent nucs their supplies.
      I do think there is an issue out that way, those two cutouts were within 5 miles. I had also found a swarm landing in a tree between these two and stopped to watch, one came a ways after me just to sting me in the eye. They are usually quite docile at swarm so this was odd too. The rest were acting fairly aggressive too.
      if AHB is in east KS we are all in trouble. I cant see that with the temps in the winter here but something is up in that area. Are russians a possibility?

    • @russiane.lection-hacker2057
      @russiane.lection-hacker2057 6 років тому

      Aside from all the obvious (genetics, weather, food stores, predators/parasites, queen health, etc.) also consider your own behavior. What are you doing differently with a cutout than with a box hive? Are you causing a draft? Breathing onto them? Causing shocks/vibrations? Bring a scent?

    • @jsauerii
      @jsauerii 6 років тому

      Oh no, They had started nailing people for just being in their line of site before I even tore into their hive on the last one. The first was only marginally better. I can't say there weren't plenty of indications they would be mean, I just wonder where the nice ones are at. :)

    • @russiane.lection-hacker2057
      @russiane.lection-hacker2057 6 років тому

      @jsauerii - As I mentioned, in that case it may be either circumstances, or genetics. If they don't become more docile once they're in a healthy hive, you might want to replace the queen with one from a less aggressive colony, and remove any drone brood.

    Randy, I have a question for you. I an dying to get my own hive(s) and will after learning enough. I have been watching you and JP non stop for about 2 months. At about 10:20 on this video when you put the queen clip up on top of the hive a nurse bee comes around to the front from behind. She starts sticking her rear through the cage in a stinging kind of motion. What is her behavior about??? Thanks! Keep taking care if the "girl's ", I love watching you!! 👍👍

      She was face to face with the queen either feeding or communicating.

      Thank you so much Randy. I didn't even notice they were face to face, I just saw her rear motions and couldn't figure that out. I appreciate your answer. 😊👍

    Could you explain about the mating flights? I know the queen goes out and gets mated, but what causes the bee frenzy? I've never understood this bit about queens.

    Iv heard people talk about queens pipping before. Is that the high pitched kazoo sound i could hear the first time you introduced the queen to the hive?
