  • Melting Silver Into Hand Poured Silver Bars at Home
    In this video, I'll be melting some silver shot and a few off-pours into some more of my RFT Channel Bars, using my new Devil Forge Furnace or Foundry! I am still an amateur when it comes to pouring and stamping as I only get a little practice every other week BUT I love trying my best and it's always a lot of fun.
    Hopefully, you all enjoy this pour video and don't give me too hard of a time. :)

    If you tap the molds with a tiny hammer they make a cool swirl mark on the back the the professional ingots also the pad should be heated up to get the moisture out of it

    I've been stamping for 7 years and it takes a lot of practice and definitely the quality of your tools helps. Best advice I can offer, be sure to stamp on a steel block on a very heavy/sturdy surface. You can tape the stamp surface with electrical tape to protect the opposite side when stamping. If you're using a hammer, a 2lb sledge is probably the best way to go with that size of a stamp, and try the rock and tap method, may help with the edge details. Happy stamping.

    Great Job Rob. A lot of people don't realize that this is harder than it looks. I personally couldn't handle it as I have a lot of anxiety about working with such high levels of heat and the possibility of getting burned.

    This is a great example of machine doubling vs doubled die. I'll be the first to admit I'm not an expert, but from what I understand, bar 45 is basically how machine doubling happens. If the die had been damaged at some point to where it stamps the same error every time that would be a doubled die.

  • @karlskoins

    Hey Rob do you ever take the time and effort to melt out and separate the silver coins to separate the 90% from the 10% Cooper? Is it cost efficient and do you end up with .999 silver when you melt coins down by heating them one by one on the edge of a crucible? How much does one of those tools cost that can read the % of fine gold or fine silver % or fine copper %? Is it worth the investment into the forge and or the assays metal testing equipment? I have a lot of junk silver now and I am wondering how much more I can gain. by separation of the 2 metals.

  • @The-Other-Jimmy

    I have the opportunity to buy 4lb5oz of silver that cane from electrical contacts. It's already been melted, poured, weighed and shot to see what each bar contains. The range is from 97.4%-99.4% silver with some CU,S,P,Si etc filling in the % gap. I can get it for $20 an ounce. My question is, is it worth buying and how can I use it/sell it later? I've seen the actual readings and weights and can verify the gun was calibrated

  • @williamfindspeople4341
    @williamfindspeople4341 3 роки тому

    You're getting better. How many ounces is your stamping hammer. Or should I be asking what type of hammer are you using?? You should be using a dead blow hammer. That way your stamp will become more even and you won't have any doubling or bounce. I've been doing it for over 35 years I consider myself somewhat of an authority on using stamps and punches.

      The one I use is in the description box of the video but make sure you pour into a hot mold and after the silver has been molten for a few minutes. Also, .999 fine silver pours much easier than sterling or lesser purity.
