Melting Silver - Making Hand Poured Silver Bars at Home In this video, I'll be melting some silver bullion (Generic Rounds) into some more of my RFT Channel Bars, using my new Devil Forge Furnace or Foundry! I am still an amateur when it comes to pouring and stamping as I only get a little practice every other week BUT I love trying my best and it's always a lot of fun. Can you explain why when you pour the liquid silver into the mold it becomes sold right away while the silver in the crucible stays liquid the whole time you’re pouring?
You might want to try cleaning up the crucible and removing surface slag with carbon rod before poring, also heating the molds to red/yellow hot give the air a change to escape before the silver cools eliminating voids on the bottom of the bar, finally if you tap out the bars onto sheet rock no danger of scratches or dings so no need to polish. Hope that helps and keep up the good work.
OK I also need to do a better job heating up my mold then. I have had some that look awesome and others are all sorts of wrong. Is there a chat site/ form for smelting nerds? Post pics and whatnot
100 years from now, there will be hobbyists collecting only ingots and trinkets made by You-tube scrappers and melters, and the "RFT 2oz ingot #38 DDO" is going to be the holy grail of ingotology. We have witnessed the birth of a legend.
Interesting how quickly they solidify from liquid in the molds. Your technique is getting very smooth - well done! Would love to see the stamping process.
They are - some more than others of course due to either weight or stamping. I'll release them likely tomorrow but definitely can e-mail me if interested brother: robfindstreasure55@gmail.com
See if your bank can still provide coins. Mine in PA still has the lobby closed but will arrange for a pickup just outside their lobby if you call them a few days in advance.
Be careful, being lazy causes you to get hurt. I had a friend who poured hot metal with sandals on he had to have two toes amputated because he was too lazy to put on hard shoes.
Nice bars! In would also like to make some silver bars. I have a devilforge, exact the same you have. But I think I will use an electril furnace/kiln for silver. I will also prepare a pouring setup with a burner hitting those moulds while pouring. Give them a small tap while solodifying will give them some nice ripples, just the way I love them! I will also need to invest in a tumbler to get them as smooth and shiny as possible. Hopefully one day when I build a new shed or buy a garage box I will start melting silver. Just subbed 😁👍👍👍
I'm new to the channel and I just want to ask some questions. Why do we melt the silver coins into silver bars? Isn't that the coin has more premium value than the bar???
A few of those rounds carry a pretty high premium. However he is making bars that will sell for a pretty good premium themselves. In this situation he messed up but normally he would probably get more selling the channel bars then he would get for generic rounds. This is what they make .999 shot for or even a generic kilo bar.
The voids on the bottom of the bars is from the gases built up in the metal from the propane..electrical furnaces dont give this issue when pouring silver. But I think it gives the bars more character..I find it easier to pour from a smaller crucible but that's just me.
According to the London Mint Office the silver can only be described as “white metal” I know because I have done this myself using full silver coin. What does your mint say?
silver melts at 1,763.24 degrees Fahrenheit. I run my tabletop furnace at 1900 degrees or slightly better. Is there any consensus of higher heats being a problem with good pours?

Rob when are the rounds safe to touch?
I have really been wanting to make one of these videos for my channel. You in Dallas area?
Can you explain why when you pour the liquid silver into the mold it becomes sold right away while the silver in the crucible stays liquid the whole time you’re pouring?
a trick: you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Luke Lennon definitely, I have been using Flixzone for months myself =)
You might want to try cleaning up the crucible and removing surface slag with carbon rod before poring, also heating the molds to red/yellow hot give the air a change to escape before the silver cools eliminating voids on the bottom of the bar, finally if you tap out the bars onto sheet rock no danger of scratches or dings so no need to polish. is that why my bars always have little holes and cracks in the bottom? i heated up the mold but not till it turns red or yellow
@OfficiallyRetired yes, the mold needs to be glowing red hot.
I'd take any one of those bars. Even the rejects. Heck, that just gives them character. Nice job.
I guess you'd have to get an injectable mold to really get them precise.
I'd rock one of those bars in the background to go w mr RFT round.
Thanks brother! One of these bars SHOULD be at your house!
Each bar has its flaws and blemishes but that's what makes them unique. And who can't appreciate a DDO or get mad about one? Great video.
I think you need a vacuum forge to get them with mirrored surfaces like the pros use.
Love the pouring vids
so relaxing to watch :)
Same here, they make me salivate
Pour videos are my favourite from you
Little touches like the sound effect at 4:25 really bring this video to life
That one looked triple stamped on the top point! The even more elusive trippled die!!!
I love these metal pours! Especially silver the bars look amazing
yeah that sound of the freshly minted bars hitting the table is very satisfying
DARN!!! My jaw kinda dropped pre-melting, when I saw that a few of the generic rounds were Norfed rounds!
Norfeds! They are too rare to melt!
Yep he mest up
Wow! Epic f up.
What are norfed rounds?
@@juniorpineda4151 Look up Bernard VonNaughthaus... *SP
Very cool. Gotta love poured silver ingot.
Good video Rob love all your videos

This is new to me, I'm glad that I'm learning about it through your channel Rob, excellent video brother👍
lol......love that DDO, just like the big dogs............. would like to see a pic of your tumbler as well . Thanks always great videos

Love your channel, I really enjoy watching your poor videos with subtitles, very relaxing and soothing, thank you.
Always neat to see liquified silver pouring into the mould.
I love vids like this. I want to have a forge of my own and make gold and silver bars. I adore gold and silver.
So fun to watch!
Oh yeah silver. I love to watch silver being poured
Good looking bars brother 👍👍 Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for demystifying the process of smelting metal
Thats awesome! Love to see the stamping process one day. Great stuff!
Got to give this a try
That's cool 😎 love those rounds
It would be cool to see the stamping process too! Enjoyed the video
That ddo looked so dope
I still have bar #006. Love it
I think I want one of them !!
Super cool
Great info.
👍😎👍
My first time watching you do a pour , it was cool, my fav is the Penny's 😊
Thank you!
Cool video but I would’ve really liked to see how you polished and especially how you stamped these.
I have other pour videos that show that but I agree that I could put it into more of them.
I'm about to try my first poures!
I will own one ..ONE DAY lol .. lovely pours
The “DDO if you will” is so cool
Coin roll hunting - "Nice! I found a DDO!"
Stamping - "Darn it, I got a DDO!"
Good stuff bud
Great works Rob . Thanks ive Learned
MC-55 error - doubRobling Die Obverse. Those are awesome!
Just found this, super fun video
I oh so want one!
It looks like such a fun hobby and you can do so many metals..im in im buying that set up
Rob why in the world did you melt a NORFED lol! Great Video tho
What’s NORFED?
Ser Duncan I’m not sure😂
@@_Dunk have you Googled it yet? 🤔
Omg yes, it hurts to see it, I would never melt my norfed coins
Cool! I found a 2019 War In the Pacific Guam W Quarter in change today at the bank
Good for you I have two San Antonio’s and one AMP
@@icyhotryan9339 very cool! The one that I found is my first one ver!

Rob you are a coin collector and a craftsman! Excellent video!
Awesome video! I love the DDO bar!
They look great! 🤙🏼
Always Awesome Rob! Not that I am on the winning side of things but maybe a Friday EOS GAW on one bar? Anyone would be thrilled to get one of those!!
Would love to see the stamping process
Nice job Rob. I myself am getting into pouring soon. It will allow me to be creative and produce art. Keep up the great work.
Hi rob ,,great vid .. was wondering Do you use carbon in your molds to keep the silver from sticking,, I have to do it with my lead pours ,,jw ??
Kool that's really NICE
So instead of going a little over like you said, wouldn't you have had enough left over to pour one more (@2.0ozt)? Just curious
Rob I hope you stay safe doing these and when will u do a metal detecting video?
Is that just plain old ice cold water in the bread pan?
Yep LOL
@@RobFindsTreasure thanks ❤👍🏽
Is it just me or is there something primal about melting and pouring metals
I like the DDO
Thats cool to watch... Nice.
Great job and new sub 👍🧡
Thanks for subbing!
@@RobFindsTreasure your welcome
WE FORGOT TO CHECK FOR NORFEDS!!! Love the bars though!!!
Man I would love one of those bars!!
What did you use for stamping dies?
Looking good! For sale?🔥🔥

Just found out my banks are opening lobbies on monday
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Mine are still closed and no idea when they’ll reopen ☹️. Happy that many can still get coins, hoping I can again soon!
@@MidwestCoinHunter hope you can too they will probably open soon Its been hard waiting this long for rolls
See if your bank can still provide coins. Mine in PA still has the lobby closed but will arrange for a pickup just outside their lobby if you call them a few days in advance.
Probably using a pair of channel locks would give you better control of flipping your molds. Probably be faster too
I have a pair and I was too lazy to grab them, but yes, you are most definitly right!
Be careful, being lazy causes you to get hurt. I had a friend who poured hot metal with sandals on he had to have two toes amputated because he was too lazy to put on hard shoes.
rob you doing need tongs to drop the get the bars out the molds your gloves will protect you as long as they can withstand heat.
Very nice sir
Like for the Russian pressure gauge. I just found it interesting.
Why do you say it's Russian?
@@volvojoe ГАЗ which means gas in all caps.
@@volvojoe It's spelled in Russian, but it could be manufactured anywhere where Russian is spoken.
@@phillipbainbridge9107 interesting, thanks for sharing i wouldn't have known otherwise add i can't read Russian
DDO is collectible 😎😉

Yeah - I now use the electric for silver and the devil forge for non-precious metals. Thanks for subbing brother!
I'm new to the channel and I just want to ask some questions.
Why do we melt the silver coins into silver bars? Isn't that the coin has more premium value than the bar???
Rob - how about an answer here?
A few of those rounds carry a pretty high premium. However he is making bars that will sell for a pretty good premium themselves. In this situation he messed up but normally he would probably get more selling the channel bars then he would get for generic rounds. This is what they make .999 shot for or even a generic kilo bar.
@@PHUCKyoutube689 thank you for your kind answer ❤️
Where did you buy your stamp?

Sliver cools off really fast huh
The voids on the bottom of the bars is from the gases built up in the metal from the propane..electrical furnaces dont give this issue when pouring silver. But I think it gives the bars more character..I find it easier to pour from a smaller crucible but that's just me.
Nice I like it
very nice job Rob :) could you tell me how long dose your fernace to melt the silver please
Looking good...are they going to be for sale on your website?
You might want a torch on a stand over your bar molds to make a prettier finish and keep the oxides from forming on the top while pouring.👍
According to the London Mint Office the silver can only be described as “white metal” I know because I have done this myself using full silver coin.
What does your mint say?
Did you ever try stamping the edges
