    great videos , working with pianos (the woodworking), whenever we need high-grit sandpaper and don't have any handy; we use paper bags - I've heard it said that a paper bag is 1000-3000 grit sandpaper... it's amazing how a little moisture on a grocery bag or school lunch bag can help smoth a poly-finish or shellac finish , nice to see that technique in silver-smithing thanks

    What other methods could you use to stamp the bars when they are finished? Stamping with a hammer seems pretty error prone.

    Dose the burner burn through the mould or do you have to be Careful with graphite as I've not poured silver before

    Looks like adding silver shot to a mold to get the weight right, and them melting it in the mold would be the way to go.

    Hi, I want to ask. I also melt silver into bars, but the graphite crucible doesn't last long. After only a short melting, it crumbles. Do you use borax? I have a small electric furnace. Thank you :)

    • @BackyardBullion
      @BackyardBullion  3 роки тому

      Yep, it's part of the process, graphite crucibles degrade over time, I manage about 8x 90 minute cycles out of mine then I have to buy new ones.

      I'm sorry buddy, keep trying and experimenting with different set ups. Change any variable you can think of. Are you using 999 silver? You won't get ripples with anything less.

      @@BackyardBullion no worries. I’ll eventually figure it out. It’s Sterling that I refined. So it’s either pure or close to but I’ll try with 100% pure see if that’s it. Thank u for the advice. Love the videos

    • @BackyardBullion

    Why can't you just weigh the silver before you melt it, so you just pour the full cup?

    • @mickeylickey123
      @mickeylickey123 Рік тому +1

      I do that but during the melting process you lose silver. I noticed a layer of dust on the work bench, swept it up and melted it. It weighed quite a bit. It's hard to judge how much over weight you have to make it before melting. Sometimes I end up under weight and have to remelt

    • @anylife_photography
