I feel like a new category related ability can be a lot more creative than just a different flavored sharpness tho. Something like triage is a great example for variety. Since there's a lot of kick move with crash damage, we can just have an ability that make all kick moves always hit. And we can have other abilities like make all slamming move have a 30% chance to para, or all light move become spread move, or something like these. Also just like sound move can go through subsititue, adding properties to a new category itself can also make these far more interesting.
I think the idea was it's just an example of an ability to go along with the move categories, a whole team of people with enough time to probably come up with a ton different abilities for these categories
I’ve been on the light move train for a while. I’ve thought of a few things: Photosynthesis - This Pokémon is immune to Light Based Moves. It heals 50% of its maximum HP if hit by a Light Based Move. Veiled Eyes - This Pokémon is immune to Light based moves. Radiant Glow - The power of Light Based Moves is increased by 1.5x. Blazing Glare - All Light Based Moves are converted to Fire type. Tinted Mask - The holder takes 50% less damage from light-based moves.

If i remember correctly, you missed other Kicking/foot moves such as Aqua Step, Stomp, High Horsepower, Thunderous Kick, Pyro Ball and Triple Arrows which RR also classifies as a Kicking move. I also recommend using the Dex for ghe Rom hack Emerald Elite Redux since it also has the Striker ability and lets you filter moves by certain effects such as getting a Striker or Iron Fist boost.
A stomp is not a kick. Aqua step is also more a choreographed movement of the legs. Pyro ball is the FLAMING BALL not the leg that kicks it. Triple arrows is… an arrow. High horse power and thunderous kick are completely justified however. Dont just take radical red’s words as the game likes to appease players by giving synergies not possible in regular games.

One category I thought would be interesting would be “Headbutting” or “charging” moves So all moves with the word “Head” in the name and Raging Bull (apparently the only move that implies attacking with the head without the word “head” in the name) And if that’s not enough, throw in some moves where the user is charging at the opponent (I.E. flame charge, flare blitz, wild charge, trailblaze, and maybe extreme speed)
Shin guard could also provide protection from contact moves and a small boost like the punching glove item Edit: headlong rush's description also says it's a full body slam
Fun fact in pokemon Super Mystery Dunegon, Ligth-based is actualy a category and are afected by illuminate alowing the user to becomes a decoy for oponent attacks. This category also includes Confuse Ray, Spark, Thunder Wave and Volt Tackle as well some status moves which are not listed on the video.

One thing I would do different is just add Luminous into Illuminate effect cuz currently Illuminate is mechanically useless in battle, which would also save an Ability slot for the Pokemon you mentioned Edit 1: Oh and I would change Lashing Force into lashing / whipping move in general so we can add Power Whip, Vine Whip and Fire Lash into the mix as well. This also extend the possible receiver for the Ability to Pokemons with long tendrils
Just to be accurate: in gen 9 illuminate received an in battle effect being that it prevents the user’s accuracy from being lowered and lets it ignore evasion boost. Not to take away from your comment but just wanted to make it clear.
I think they should introduce way more moves with unusual type interactions, such as Freeze Dry and Flying Press, so they can have the move category "Oddity Attacks" and a new ability "Oddity Specialist" to boost their power by 30%.
No because then it would just make them better than the original moves. There should be an equal cost/opportunity to using feeeze dry over ice beam as it has no drawbacks and hits water types
@yonkodude no because not all Pokémon would have access to Oditty Specialist. You won't see an Iron Bundle with that ability. Maybe Cyogonal thar has Freeze-Dry and it's trash

@bb4life141 Even though it makes sense for it to be a water type move, I'd personally like it more if it was a poison type move instead. Water is already strong enough as it is, while poison getting a buff is an indirect nerf for Fairy types while also nerfing Steel a little.

I made up a couple of Catargoies also * Beams are mostly what you would expect, such as HyperBeam, Ice Beam, and so on, but also Flamethrower. * Grapples are used for moves that squeeze or throw the target, such as Bind, Consturt, and Strom Throw. * Hammer Kinda joining, but I was confused and thought there would be more Hammer Moves than Mega Luncher moves. Hammer Arm, Ice Hammer, Crab Hammer, Wood Hammer, Gigaton Tammer.
Hammer moves was actually one of the categories I made for this video, but I left it out as it was too small. I also came up with something similar to your grapple category that also didn't end up making the video, which is gripping moves. I like yours better though!
Small suggestion for the winged moves list: if fiery dance is included because it's an attack made by beating wings, maybe it'd be fair to have gust, twister and hurricane as well?

Like for instance, wing moves could dispel powder moves, or the effects of mist or smokescreen. And light moves could increase the accuracy of the next move that hit the target by 10%, or make it not affected my misdirection for the turn.
I’ve always felt like two categories would make sense airborne and grounded moves airborne moves would fly through the air, meaning, if they’re ground type, they ignore ground immunity caused by flying/floating, but would be dampened or even eliminated by gravity and grounded moves are the opposite, moves that are tied to the ground, and so wouldn’t be able to hit a flying Pokemon, even if not directly ground type obviously though, not every move would have to fit one or the other, as that would shake things up way too much
I have a new move in mind called solar crash a 120 base power move that deals 1/3 of recoil when the user misses it will deal 1/8 of it has a 95% accuracy and it's a physical fire move
Ngl, going from slamming moves (of which your list includes notable weight based moves) to light moves, I was hoping your "light" was in regards to weight. I don't think light weight is relevant outside of the Ability Light Metal and weight based move damage calculations but since it's not a typical topic, I was interested in hearing your theory crafting. Lol. On a related note, I think your light type Ability and item should be switched. The Ability should give you light immunity and the item should increase your damage. I don't think any single Pokemom wields enough light-based moves to warrant an entire ability. (Ampharos is the only option that comes to mind, with access to both Meteor Beam, Signal Beam, Power Gem and Charge Beam.) However, there are enough relevant light moves on your list to warrant an immunity Ability as a niche option similar to Bulletproof.

Also, it caps at 50% when combined with the ability. And I listed all pokemon that could receive these categories, for all of them, including the ones that already exist, like sound, slicing, and multi-hit. BTW one of my favorites is multiple: pokemon with multiple being (usually more than 1 head) causes 20% more damage with multi-hit moves.
Also, this mechanic could also include something aike third type, without including the third type. Like: charizard could have 20% damage boost on dragon moves, just for instance.
I don’t think Striker would necessaaaaarily be a good fit for Lokix, but Lokix definitely deserves some kind of boost to kicking moves. I wouldn’t mind it having its own signature ability to replace swarm lol
3:51 just a small correction "Aku" doesn't exactly translate to evil, it is more dark but in the metaphorical sense (probably this is the reason the localized used this word) That is why not "evil" pokemon like Absol and Sableye are still dark, they have coonnection to dark themes and behaviors.
I'm surprised headlong rush wasn't included in slamming moves, since the Dex description describes this as a "full body tackle" Similarly dazzling gleam for the light move category
Dazzling Gleam I would include now that you mention it, but for Headlong Rush, it is already categorized as a punching move so I didn’t feel it would make sense for it to be both a punching and slamming move
Want to know something funny due to claunchers ability and aura or pulse move gets boosted so if they come out with a move called aura kick or something like that it would get mega launcher boosted also who else thinks it’s dumb that ball and beam moves don’t also get boosted by mega launcher
what would you define Pokemon moves that relate to food? as in moves that feed something the pokemon that uses it, OR to the target poke? heck! Even moves that use up a poke's held Berries?

It is broken but most of the mons that would get it range from niche to ass, at least in singles. I think it'll be fine to let them have a nuke of an attack. Dondozo is good but it needs unaware, idk about vgc though
Instead of Luminous I think Illuminate should get an additional effect of doing more light damage. Would make it an actually relevant ability (though actually it did get changed in Gen 9 already, right?)

Wide lens wouldn't stop you from taking damage when hitting into a protect or an immunity though, which is common counter play to moves with crash damage
Another comment as my first one is a valid point but why isn’t dazzling gleam part of the light category in game it looks like a bright flash of light and also shouldn’t the luminous ability give extra healing to the light based healing moves like morning sun or moonlight also flash should also be on this list just for fun but a practical use would be for it to lower acc by 2 stages instead of 1 and screen moves should last as long as possible with out light clay sconce the Pokemon that learn screen moves that get this ability are either not very bulky or have quad weaknesses except for starmie also espathra should be in the list for luminous
I specifically excluded any legendaries/mythicals/ultra beasts/paradoxes from getting these abilities since I feel it wouldn't fit thematically as well as regular Pokémon

1:03 iirc some of the radical red abilities are taken from pokemon clover, such as Striker, Bone Zone, and Blademaster (formerly) Also, Immunity ability idea *Pitch Black* - Makes the Pokémon immune to light moves. Could be an ability given to base Necrozma or smth.

I don't think any single Pokemom wields enough light-based moves to warrant an entire ability. (Ampharos is the only option that comes to mind, with access to both Meteor Beam, Signal Beam, Power Gem and Charge Beam.) However, there are enough relevant light moves on your list to warrant an immunity Ability as a niche option similar to Bulletproof.
An item that makes you immune to ice beam would be insane
Pyro Ball should be a kicking move, since the power of the move comes from the user kicking a burning rock at the opponent.

Imo Steel Toe is a better name for the kicking ability. It references steel toed boots and pairs perfectly with Iron Fist.
Long Reach should boost archery based moves. Triple Arrows and Spirit Shackle only, but still better than nothing. Makes Decidueye more unique.
Now I want a "bicycle kick" move that does something like circle throw.
On that note, throwing moves would be interesting too.

In the mechanic i am thinking, there would be another attribute to pokemon marking the category of moves (beyond abilities and types). Just add 20% damage to these moves. For instance, kabutops doest have sharpness, but its design clearly indicates it is good at slicing moves. So, it receives 20% on slicing moves. Also, it caps at 50% when combined with the ability. And I listed all pokemon that could receive these categories, for all of them, including the ones that already exist, like sound, slicing, and multi-hit.
BTW one of my favorites is multiple: pokemon with multiple being (usually more than 1 head) causes 20% more damage with multi-hit moves.
Also, this mechanic could also include something aike third type, without including the third type. Like: charizard could have 20% damage boost on dragon moves, just for instance.
They should make a freaky move category that includes all the moves where the user gets freaky 🥴
I don’t think Striker would necessaaaaarily be a good fit for Lokix, but Lokix definitely deserves some kind of boost to kicking moves. I wouldn’t mind it having its own signature ability to replace swarm lol

I think sun steel strike shoud be a light type move as It's basically Sogalao or Necrozma slaming the light of the light of the sun into the opponent.

"Aku" doesn't exactly translate to evil, it is more dark but in the metaphorical sense (probably this is the reason the localized used this word)
That is why not "evil" pokemon like Absol and Sableye are still dark, they have coonnection to dark themes and behaviors.

Dazzling Gleam I would include now that you mention it, but for Headlong Rush, it is already categorized as a punching move so I didn’t feel it would make sense for it to be both a punching and slamming move

Wide lens wouldn't stop you from taking damage when hitting into a protect or an immunity though, which is common counter play to moves with crash damage

Another comment as my first one is a valid point but why isn’t dazzling gleam part of the light category in game it looks like a bright flash of light and also shouldn’t the luminous ability give extra healing to the light based healing moves like morning sun or moonlight also flash should also be on this list just for fun but a practical use would be for it to lower acc by 2 stages instead of 1 and screen moves should last as long as possible with out light clay sconce the Pokemon that learn screen moves that get this ability are either not very bulky or have quad weaknesses except for starmie also espathra should be in the list for luminous
