Simple put nobody wants or needs VR ! even those companies Apple jumped on the bandwagon with, cant sell decent numbers at an 8th of the price. VR wont be widely adopted untill its the size of a regular pair of glasses that you see through both ways, with at least an 8 hour battery life, and that technology is decades away ! Apple wasted a shed load of cash developing this and judging by their nervous and hastily put together presentation I think they know it !

I'm foaming at the mouth for it, as a developer. Everyone else doesn't think its current utility validates the price point, and they're absolutely right. I think Apple knows this and didn't want to market the hell out of it for that reason. 2nd gen will be a different story I think.

Jon, it's because they literally *can't* "show" us, without personally trying it. That's the inherent problem with marketing any VR/AR headset. It's also why it's hard for people like us to accurately convey our thoughts about it, because no amount of words will do the experience, whether good, bad or lukewarm, justice. That's been my worry about Vision Pro from the jump. Good video. -Jeff

I’m basically waiting til Gen 2 on this, because I think this first gen is for devs. I think they knew the market for this first gen wasn’t going to be the general public because it needs devs to fill in the gaps with games, workspaces, etc. I would guess if the launch hits well with devs that is when we’ll see a bigger hype from Apple

I’ve seen several devs speaking about how excited they are for this product in the comments section of videos on the VisionPro, whereas most general consumers are neutral. If it eases the development process for devs, it becomes a tool for them regardless of whether the general public is using it because they will be using it to create apps, games, sites, and more for both the VisionPro and other devices such as Mac, iPad, or possibly PC. I know these are two different products. But one of these is affordable by normal humans with normal jobs. The other is available to people who make UA-cam videos for a living and the spoiled rich kid who annoyed you in high school. I love Apple products. I think you're right, though I don't think it's an experiment as much as it is a well-thought out strategy. Apple Watch is the closest thing I can think of to compare it to. It wasn't an immediate hit because no one was used to buying a watch at that price and it was untested and people thought, I already have a phone why do I need a smaller phone on my wrist as well? But now almost everyone has a smart watch if they have a watch at all. Added to that, a video just DOESN'T sell the full experience of VR. We're so used to looking through a screen for everything and the videos try to show that it's more than that, but you just can't get it until you try it on. Get people in the Apple Store to actually experience this and people will buy it... and those that don't will want one but wait for the SE model.

what if Apple decides it’s not worth it (because they deal with a double standard of expected quality and are scrutinized over everything) and simply scrap this after some five years of software support and move on? Personally, I love how advanced it is. Being able to perfectly see my room at a moments notice and overlay VR on top is supremely dope. And it finally has a resolution that will make me feel actually immersed without being able to distinguish pixels.
HOWEVER. They have mentioned next to nothing about VR games and controllers. They’re focusing nearly entirely on computing at this stage, and I don’t think it’s their focus yet. Plus the price is way too steep for me.
I want one, but I will not be getting one unless I win the lottery or something. In its current state, I just don’t have a need for it.

It's not ready for prime time yet. It's a highly technologically advanced device, but it's not a good product yet. Plus, it's very complicated to manufacture. I don't think Apple intends for the first-gen Vision Pro to dominate the market. But they need to get it into the hands of developers and enthusiasts to advance the ecosystem, discover use-cases, and learn how to improve it as consumer product. The second-gen and non-Pro versions will be true consumer-facing products that will dominate. And by that time, the surrounding ecosystem will be up to speed as well. Apple is giving this first-gen version exactly as much attention as it deserves and requires in the present day. This is a bet on tomorrow.

It may not be a good product for consumers, but it’s an awesome product for professionals. That’s why it’s called Apple Vision “Pro”. As a 3-D modeler and character designer, I can’t think of a better device to use to study human anatomy. One job MORE than pays for the device. 🤷🏾
