    I’m 30 year old grown ass man and I carry that pain everyday. While watching this scene....I cried my heart out in my room in this quarantined time. Even I have someone who didn’t return the love I want but that never discouraged me to suppress my feelings. I thought...She being in my head is a foolish thing but this scene makes it sound beautiful and I thank the writers for it.

      Unrequited love is the most emotive feeling you’ll ever have and then one day you wake up and you feel nothing. So so weird how it happens. But every day you feel so passionate about something you will never have is given back twice as much to true love when it comes and it will. Even if that love is just living life.

    The moment I saw her I thought, "Wow!" and then she said "Hi!". She is my soulmate and she always will be, I love her more than I love myself. I wish she loved me like she loves him. I wish she loved me even half as much as I love her. Even when I am dead and dust my love for her will transcend time and space. She will be loved for all of time and beyond.

    What's really heartbreaking in this scene is that Tolkien knew, he knew exactly that Geoffrey was talking about him, he probably knew even before and he had to pretend not to, not to crush even more the heart of his friend...

    I am experiencing unrequited love right now. I can't tell but it does hurt physically in the chest and guts. Sometimes, people you love don't love you back and there is nothing you can do about it. All you can say to yourself is This too shall pass. I don't know how to deal with a heartbreak. It is indeed painful. Reaching out to all of you for a sense of belonging and hope.
    Thank you guys. 🤍

    Sometimes unlike Tolkien, it's the ones who are unable to cope and heal under such circumstances that become psychotically obsessed. It can eat people alive and take away any common sense they have if they're not strong enough to get through it. It can be both sad and scary for those kinds of people.

    Thank you for posting this sweet scene. I think he did know who Geoffrey was speaking of because of what he says later in the film to Geoffrey's mom when he convinces her to allow him to publish her son's poems after he has been killed.

    The movie itself is by far not something you could call a masterpiece, but that one scene cracked me. If you can relate, in that magical moment it was almost like you could physically feel the meaning of that words which reach far beyond the screen. It is pure beauty.

    “To love someone, who, for whatever reason, cannot return your feelings is painful. But if you listen to the poets, perhaps there's a kind of beauty to that love. It burns. Bright. And it's never tainted by reality or by - overuse. It's as clear and fierce today as it was the very first day it began. And there's beauty to that, I think. At least, that's what I cling to, anyway.”

    One door closes.....many doors open mate. The beauty of rejection, as painful as it feels, is that it helps you understand attraction. It's mathematical: Positive and positive equals positive. Where there is Positive paired with a negative it creates positive; as long as positivity sustains. Negative only equals negative when paired with negative. Let their kind remain with their kind. Misery loves company, says 20th century idiom. Fast forward, "Your Vibe will attract your Tribe", in modern layman's terms. In reality, it all boils down to what you Exude, from inward to outward. That epitomizes Law of Attraction.

      I think (I read this in a youtube comment) during research for the film the director thought there were some gay undertones in Geoffrey’s writing - but I don’t know if that’s a widely accepted interpretation and I don’t know how much his apparent unrequited love for Tolkien in this film is based on evidence and how much is just trying to tell a story.

    Hey, first: 1. Have SELF-love, you were born without him or her in this world and long before you met him or her, you lived life to the fullest extent, to a maximum degree. So please, do not minimize your life over someone who only added a decimal to the great enormous value of your life as whole, placing that person as if they were your God or Goddess above everything and all. You live, learn, and overcome (c'Est la Vie) to be able to fall in love again, only next time round when new opportunity is announced it's with someone even more compatible with you, covering all areas with which you need for a synchronous relationship; which ever area you fancy to be your most favorite cup of tea to its highest level in emotional,mental,physical, intellectually or psychological degree 3.nothing in life will last forever, man, everything comes and goes, comes and goes, just like in the course of change and season.. sometimes cold / sun / rain / storm / heat etc, you just have to learn to adapt and be mentally and emotionally equipped, fully prepared when life throws you a cataclysmic shock.. know how to get up... and move forward... always marching on and on never retreat.
    The past has already expired, done.deal..GONE, the present is your calm relief of breath, and your future is your sigh of hope.

    It's really annoying to me how people in the movie industry think that two men can't love each other as friends, and that it always has to be some sort of gay thing. I was initially really excited for this movie, but in true Hollywood fashion, they completely omitted the importance of his Catholic faith to his work and had to push an agenda :( I get it if you're not religious, but you simply can't make a movie about Tolkien and barely make mention of his faith at all. The people involved with the making of this movie clearly read too far into the contents of his letters with no actual evidence and breathed something into them that wasn't there...it's sad that men can't write about loving each other without people just jumping all over it and saying they're gay...I liked some aspects of the movie, but overall it was an interpretation of his life and definitely not a true biographical account.

    • @flyingzone356
      @flyingzone356 3 роки тому +7

      So, how exactly do you want Karukoski to depict "more catholic faith" in this movie? Tolkien reciting the rosary? Tolkien praying in a church? Jesus revealing himself in his dream? Also, does it mean that, when one makes a movie on famous scientist such as Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein, why HAS TO talk about their atheism? Oh, wait a minute, movies have been made about these two men without ever mentioning their atheism. So were they convenient "omissions" as well? I don't see any atheists making any complaint of such "omissions." Let me assume you are a religious person who has a disdain for homosexuality (you know, the "gay thing"). I got it. It's quite typical. You don't have to explain yourself.

    • @leonardalcoran203
      @leonardalcoran203 2 роки тому +3

      @@flyingzone356 I agree with you, the research done by Beresford and Karukoski did not gloss over the somewhat queer subtext in Tolkien and Smith's liaisons which was translated quite tastefully into the film by subtly coding Smith's character without being too crass or disrepectful. It is something we need to commend as it is rarely done in Hollywood where they have a sensitivity to the realities of the clandestine relations between two men in the past without destroying the essence of that very relationship; trust and a deep friendship.
      His faith was immaterial to his burdens as a creative, if we are to assume, since they lived at a time of war, their faith was the least of their concern that rather they were more keen on the realities of their time, the sweeping losses of wartime.

    don't let this absurd, contrived fabrication ruin your image of Tokien's friend and the bond of brotherly love. here is a quote from Tolkien's son in 2012:
    In 2012 Christopher Tolkien complained that his father’s legacy was being “absorbed by the absurdity of our time.” Perhaps nothing better illustrates this than the filmmakers’ decision to subtly suggest that Tolkien’s close friend, poet Geoffrey Bache Smith, was in love with him.
    disgusting to use the memory of good people in the attempts to push an agenda.
