Personally, I like 1994 and 2019's interpretation of this scene: one involves whispers and one-sided caresses in the forest, and the other has yelling on a hillside. It's perfect 😂
Yelling on a hillside 🤣
Yes I like it too
I loved both versions 😂😂 I love how you put it! Very funny 😂😂
Ha ha ha ha ha hillside
While this one is really pretty, and subtly shows both why they are incompatible, the 2019 version is more outright with it. In this scene, Laurie tells Jo about his plans for the future and how he'd "take care of her" which is exactly what Amy wants, not Jo. In the 2019 version (which I've only seen through clips, but it was the majority of the movie) its more obvious to the audience why she is only interested in him as a friend. She is beating on him all the time, and they are fighting, and challenging each other. It also made me wonder why he didn't bring up his feelings for her sooner, before the proposal in every version? I think its because deep down he knows the same thing.
When Christian Bale claims that it's reasonable to marry him, you agree.
Yessssss
haha there's simply no other CHOICE!!
Exacto.
yeahhh
Vaya, no encuentro fallas en su lógica jajaja
“Neither of us can keep our temper!” ”I can!! Unless provoked” hahaha
The way he says that line is hysterical. It's almost like he's being his character from American Psycho lol

I had watched American Psycho years before watching this version of Little Women, so I really had a hard time NOT thinking that Laurie was going to commit some horrible crime
@@GabrielCosta-xt1dv hahahahaha
Don’t worry- when he gets angry he puts on a mask and takes down criminals at night. Win win
Christian Bale is just so good. So subtle and beautiful. The hurt and pain after the rejection is so well portrayed. He owns every character he plays. Leaving his own inimitable touch to it! So nuanced and subtle, as it should be.
Oh love all his movies! Oh Bale!
Something bateman would say
he always looks 20 years older than his actual age
“you can’t even propose without quarreling”
the laugh is so pure yet bittersweet🥺
Christian Bale is so dreamy here... the way he looks straight into her eyes while professing his love 💕
Lol ugh seriously, I was like just accept !! Haha
💕💕💖
If I was Jo I would've excepted his marriage proposal before he even asks
He's also dreamy as John Rolfe in the film "The New World" as he pursues Pocohontas
"Dear jo, i swear i'll be a saint. I will let you win every argument"- idk but it's so sweet and the line tells about his unconditional love so well ❤️
It's also exactly what she didn't want :')
i would've folded
@sally-cinnamon And That is why Laurie was not right for Jo, and she knew this. In fact, I know of many relationships where contentment is not enough - some people (many women) need challenge and confrontation. They want to go somewhere. They are interested not in who they are but in what they are not. Although Laurie said everything right in his mind on his proposal it was obvious Jo needed someone more, and it was good for Jo to know this. Unfortunately, it rightly traumatised Laurie such that he got confused and never knew or comprehended why he was rejected. Being unable to own his trauma and move on, he pursued Jo's sister and never understood this moment (thus it dominated his destiny for ever). In my view, Laurie had courage but never allowed himself to be a man - never owned the consequences of this lack of understanding, and thus for the remainder of the movie, existed only as a traumatised child and a tortured soul.
Careful, Jo! This guy could be a psycho.
Haha luv it
Or a superhero....
@@Kristine_202 haha good one

So she was the catalyst for turning him into one!
can we talk about how they're just whispering in a forest
hahahahahahahahahahahaahhaa lol
yeah... oh yeah!!!
Imagine if one of the actors stared in the camera
Don't wanna disturb the wild animals
the writer in me don’t be dramatic
The difference in script here between the 1994 proposal and the 2019 proposal is so interesting to me. In this, Laurie ends his speech with "And I'll be hanged if I stand by and watch" where as, in the 2019 version, it is the opposite: "And I will watch." I think the latter is more mature, more accurate, and more devastating than the former. In the 2019 version, he loves her so much that he is willing to put her needs first, he is willing to take the rejection, he is willing to watch her fall in love because he knows that's what she deserves. And he does all this because of how much he loves Jo. In this 1994 version, he comes across as petulant and bitter, which turns a complex relationship into a black and white transaction. It gives the viewer permission to let Laurie fall in love with Amy because you see he is too immature and boyish to love Jo. But in 2019, the audience knows he still loves Jo and our willingness to let him love Amy is much more begrudging, but so much more powerful because we all know the reality of loving more than one person in different ways. Anyway, thanks for reading my TED Talk about one (1) line in Little Women.
Fan of the interpretation because the proposal scene in the 2019 version is one of the best of the films, because I was left thinking once Laurie married Amy, I wondered if Jo actually told him what she was thinking in her loneliness or her new found feelings and appreciation for their bond, what he would have done? I think he does love Amy, but he will always always love Jo. I interpreted that his love for Jo was much deeper than romance, which was really what his relationship with Amy was. Only wish I saw more of Jo and Laurie’s relationship in the film, but I guess I have to read the book for that.
I was actually more soothed by the 2019 version for your exact reasoning lol I find the 1994 version so much more devastating. The 2019 version feels like there’s much more of their friendship left intact. The 1994 version feels much more like a painful split.
@@alliewithbooks that's interesting! i think for me the 1994 version comes off immature, but i was actually told recently that i got this comment a bit wrong. in the 2019 version laurie DOES say he would "rather be hanged than watch," just earlier in the scene and it's not lingered upon/ended with. so him ending with "and i will watch" does add a level of finality to his grief, from anger to acceptance. all hail greta gerwig for a masterpiece of a script
I loved your Ted talk 👏😂
Jen Hubbard What he actually says is he’d rather hang than realize they don’t belong together. He’d rather be dead than believe what she’s saying about them as truth. So even though they are similar words, the timing and context give them completely different meanings.
then marries her little sister like a freak
CRYING
Lmao facts
LOL
Amy is perfect for Laurie. Just as Professor Bhaer is perfect for Jo. He comes from humble surroundings, a hard worker and is Jo's intellectual equal. Jo and Laurie have a wonderful friendship but that doesn't necessarily make a successful, happy marriage. Look at how Laurie keeps offering to change for Jo. That's no way to start a relationship.
and have that ugly mustache :( why Laurie? why?
Christian Bale's confession at 1:01 is just breathtaking. I think it should be everyone's goal to have someone admit their feelings in this passionate, whispering manner!
I also tried rationalizing Jo's marriage to Professor Bhaer, that he was her intellectual match who supported her writing. But then I read Louisa May Alcott's letter where she said she made Jo end up with Professor Bhaer to troll readers. Alcott wanted Jo to be single, but her publisher forced her to make Jo marry. Therefore, out of rebellion, Alcott made Jo marry a comical figure old enough to be her dad. The book would have been so much better if Jo never married.
I don't see why she had to marry Jo in order for the book to be published.
@@ginaaa596 In those days single women were seen as economically disenfranchised and, societally speaking, write-offs. Having the protagonist end up single simply wasn't a viable option if Alcott wanted to get published in that time.
I realize it’s her story and therefore her vision but I hate the idea of Jo never marrying. I actually dislike a lot of Jo’s “progressive” qualities. Not because I believe she had to marry or that a woman shouldn’t be equal to a man but because I hate how Alcot made the character reject all her inherently feminine qualities just to prove a point and having her defiantly remain single would have been just another example of that.
TheCjma88 Jo wasn't inherently feminine, that's the whole point. I see your comments everywhere on Little Women related videos, and I'm tired of it. There's nothing wrong with a woman who is less feminine.
You’re right, Alcott was trying to prove a point. Not all qualities associated with femininity are ‘inherent’ to every woman, including the desire for marriage/partnership. Women like Jo are far more common and normal than you think, and their aspirations are just as valid as characters like Meg, who want a family and dress in a traditionally feminine way.
The way he says “I want you” just melts my heart!!! Christian Bale is an amazing actor!!!
"You won't have to write, unless yo want to" probably what sealed Jo's decision.
"I will provide for you and your family" How insulting, really.
Yes it's what showed he didn't get Jo, didn't get what HER dreams were.
@@vilwarin5635 it wasn't. it was very sweet and caring and it also meant he didn't get her.
Being married is more than the economic aspects of it, she saw they were not matched mentality and love does fade if not feed.
It was going to be the perfect breeding ground for anger and resentment. It wouldn't have been a happy marriage
For real!
@the writer in me Really? Why? I thought it was a sweet sentiment. The fact that Laurie would support her no matter what she wanted to do (write or not write; have kids or not have kids; etc.). Wouldn't that be freeing for Jo to know that she could write simply because she loved it? Not because she had to put food on the table? That if she lost her passion to write, it would be okay? As a writer and editor myself, I wholeheartedly disagree with you.
Jo will always be “the one that got away.” Laurie is spellbound by her entire being. This is the epitome of unrequited love and it’s utterly heartbreaking. The acting in the 1994 film is superb.
huge shout out to Louisa May for showing us that a man and a woman can still love one another, have a meaningful connection yet remain best friends. Jo could see that she and Laurie would never work out depsite how much she loves him. And Laurie getting his heart broken was the thing he needed to grow up and be a man. He became a wonderful husband to Amy because he learnt how to finally love and Jo found the partner of her heart in Friedrich.
Reshme Subramaniam Wow, what a beautiful explanation. Thank you for sharing this perspective I agree wholeheartedly. This story means so much to me.
But Friedrich seemed so boring... bleh
in my mind Jo is simply a lesbian in the wrong era
L T hOnestly
And she did it in the 19th century get it queen
this scene always breaks my heart bc the hurt and disappointment of laurie's face is so great. god how i wish they ended up together!!
natalia alianovna she didn’t love him that way.
As a hopeless romantic, I prefer the classic happy ending, where the boy gets the girl, but Jo and Laurie just didn't fit. They had wonderful fun together (and I grieved the loss of it!) but to Jo, Laurie was like the brother she'd always wanted, and didn't contain the depth to touch the innermost part of her soul. Professor Bhaer did. He drew Jo out with appreciation, and their transcendentalist backgrounds brought each other together. Jo would have never been able to fulfill her greater destiny with Laurie.
@@elamplough1 love your reply. Most of my life I maintained that Laurie was the one for Jo, and I've read dozens of comments disagreeing and I wasn't sold yet until I read your comment.
I'm one of those horrible people who only saw the movies, did not read the book unfortunately. My opinion came from feeling that, in the movie at least, Laurie would had satisfied Jo's desire for adventure, being treated as an equal by her partner, and he has seen her at her worst over the years and still genuinely loved her and was ready to take care of her and her family. I liked the professor too, but it seemed like he slowed her down; made her docile. In the movie--he ended up being right but still--when she writes intense stories and he is like "not feeling this" it felt like dad saying no to fun lol. When she tells Laurie she "can't go be a wife", well that's not how it would have been had she chosen Laurie. She would have had fun and been forever young. The Professor literally aged her. She will not be "bashing around" anywhere with that one. In a good way and good things came from it, yes, but that doesn't eliminate the aging factor. Jo's energetic and passionate zest for life would have kept going/flourished with Laurie.
Dorian Danger Agreed! There will be no "bashing" around with Bhaer!!
The way he goes from smiling and almost high on the excitement from kissing her and proposing to the painful comedown from her rejection is so great. All the good feelings just left him.
Christian Bale is so good here. He wrings everything from this scene
Yes he went all in. Totally believable in both eagerness and anger/sadness.
This is the only part that finally broke me and made me cry
He nails this!!! I love it.
😭 she's spouting all this stuff that she's not cultured or fancy enough for his tastes and he's just like 'I want YOU".
This scene breaks my heart!
He may have wanted her, but she wasn't what he needed. She was smart enough and knew both of them well enough to know that.
She's really saying that's not the life she wants, though.
@@monmothma3358 Yes, she wants a life that she creates, not that one is handed to her. But on the other hand, I do believe Teddy would've stepped aside and let her do that. Like another poster said (paraphrasing), he supported her imaginary world that was based on her writing. He said you wouldn't have to write unless you want to. So, she could pursue her writing -- earning money or just for the enjoyment. But know that she's safe. I'm sure Teddy was progressive enough to allow them to have more of equal partnership in their marriage, so Jo wouldn't have to feel like she's being a burden or treated as a child. He understood the need to free of society's conventions, because deep down, he was like that as well. So a partnership she could earn her way in a sense, creating her own life/their life together. Her happiness was very important to Teddy, but would Jo feel like he's giving up too much? And maybe there was a side of Jo didn't want to feel safe? And I mean, she did start a school, after all. What woman in those days, especially at her economic status, could or would try to start a school? That's so risky! And the safety blanket of being taken care of? That's still having a handout (of course, should be grateful for in those days). So conflicted on these two, lol. ^ my analytical side speaking.
But if I have to pick a couple, it's Jo and Teddy. Their happiness together is what wins me. But if I compare them to Jo/Frederick or Amy/Teddy. Their relationships are like: If you're always trying to make each other happy, doesn't the relationship feel more forced/exhausting? Compatibility in terms of life goals, values and all that are good... they are needed, help cement bonds.... There's an acceptance -- a peace to Jo/Friedrich because of their intellectual compatibility/life goals. Or Teddy/Amy are. Both like extravagant lives. And it's good how Amy challenged Teddy to mature -- a partner who can challenge you to become better. But what I feel is lacking is between those two couples is happiness -- not a reason to be happy, you just are! With J/F or A/T, do they ever think about each other and smile? Do they laugh just looking at each other? Not stupid puppy love or Romeo/Juliet kind of idealistic love. Is passion the word? I rarely see these two couples smile, share a laugh. If these two couple's compatibility started to ebb, such as if Jo started to hate writing (not likely), would her and Friedrich's bond be as tight? Because if you're genuinely happy around each other, you value each other as people, you genuinely care about each other, everything else should be peanuts!!! That you'll find a way to be together. Not because so and so is compatible with you in terms of a vocation. Jo and Teddy are still laughing during their proposal fight. And then, they're so comfortable together. They're true friends, despite their bickering. They have a deep knowing of each other ("I know you, Jo"), and he was right. They have deep discussions. ^ my heart. For me, one of the greatest things I want in a man is sweetness. If we can't joke, smile, I can't be with him.
i guess she just doesn't want to get married I mean I get what she means tho I never read the book maybe I should
Can we talk about how he placed his jacket on the log before she rested on it. So sweet.
No-one can ever play Jo March as perfectly as Winona did.
The older movies are much much better
saoirse ronan can
@@boyjvoyej not even close
But She was too beautiful for being Jo.
@@dicenqueeresantigua6415Yeah, that's always the case in movies. They never use plain actresses for main roles, even if she was described as plain in the book.
I think she actually did love him, but wasn’t ready to make that type of commitment. She knew that if she married him she would have had to give up her freedom and independence and she wasn’t ready for that. She wanted to explore her writing and experience new things and Teddy just wanted to make her a stay at home wife with a writing hobby. He obviously loved her but he didn’t “get her”
I get where you're coming from...but I have to disagree. Laurie was always on board with Jo's writing and acting, and was so excited to be a part of the March sisters' club. I personally think he would have supported Jo no matter what she wanted to do; I mean all Laurie wanted to be was free. Why would you think he'd want her to be a stay at home wife? He loves Jo because she's not a traditional "stay at home wife" woman. Jo later admits she regretted saying no to Laurie; she knows he was the love of her life. Although the Professor supported her writing and career, she couldn't be as carefree and silly as she was with Laurie, which I think was such a beautiful part of their relationship.
YesNelle I whole heartedly agree! She was afraid that marriage would isolate her from her sisters too as she wasn’t pleased that Meg was marrying either, saying, why can we just stay as we are? Implying that she just wants to live and be happy with her family and sisters. I think that she was also scared of loving Laurie. She’d never confronted her feelings for him before until his kiss. I think it was overwhelming for her to think that she would marry and become a house wife. I think she was scared of losing her current relationship with Laurie too. I definitely think he understood her because out of everyone he could see what was under her tomboy exterior. She just needed to give him a chance.
@@NelleBear Yups. T's an artist, too. He wanted to be free, but didn't have the guts to oppose his grandfather. "Locked-up."
And the carefree part, T/J could just be. As I said in another post, how can you be relaxed during the bickering/proposing to laugh? They were genuinely happy together. I feel like F/J would have to make each other happy.
And then if I look at the kiss, notice how she's so embracing during the actual kiss until she comes to her senses. She doesn't have the stinkah face or mad during his kiss. She's embracing it! I do believe Teddy should've respected her rejections, tho. Because as far as the script goes, she doesn't love him like that. So, maybe the embracing is Winona applying some artistic license or Winona on a personal level is attracted to Christian. But can't help to think that T/J is like Harry/Hermione. They're not suppose to be together, but they wander to each other naturally.
@@NelleBear Yes, but you have to remember that she didn't say regret saying "no" to Laurie because she realized she loved him, she regretted saying no because she didn't want to be alone. However, that's not love. If she said yes to Laurie for the reason of not wanting to alone and unloved, it wouldn't have been fair to either of them. In the end, while it's heartbreaking, she simply didn't love him in the way he wanted.
Yes i agree. She Was very childlike too. She loved her family and family life and being FREE and creative and dreamy. And even though she loved Laurie that Was Not the moment that she could say yes to his proposal and therefor await a marriage soon. She Was awaiting her own self growing up, which in her case meant following her vocation. As soon as she would have Done that of course she would have said yes i believe. For him to ask her AT this point in this Scene is Not a good Timing. He is ready to ask her for her Hand Here. IT is probably because He is a bit more mature and has found his stabile place in society.. He knows he's taking over the Business of his family (if i understand right).. So therefor He doesnt have a Hard fight in Front of him and is at a place in life where he comes to terms with who He wants to settle down, who He loves. She is in a more uneasy place AT that point. If she had married him, the security would have maybe made IT too easy for her to Not go for what she wanted to Do..to write and so on Anyway. Yes, IT makes sense she didnt accept the proposal.. No, i dont think they would have Not gotten together later again.
Christian Bale: Meaningful, heartfelt whispers
Timothee Chalamet: "Maybe if I yell louder, she'll change her mind"
He is much less scary tho, I mean Chalamet… he portrays the heartfelt wanting and than devastation so strongly, but still doesn’t feel threatening, this version does a little
@@juliannatunde3756 true
I did not think he was yelling in that scene at all , I felt a man portraying love differently than og Laurie. This version though is soft and bittersweet but Timothee’s I felt more personally for some reason.
The 2019 rejection scene is far more brutal. You can feel Laurie getting his heart ripped out. Chalamet and Ronan did a great job.

dramatic beats in this is so much better than the 2019 version. The way they go from friendly to panic to giggling to considering and bargaining to rejection to sadness and regret. the 2019 version is just like two kids arguing in a highschool hallway. there is no range. Heartbreak isn't always a whirlwind of anger and arguing sometimes it really just is a disappointment and realizing that you rejected a future.
Yes! Yes! I am biased as I prefer this movie to the 2019 version, you are so right about this being better. 2019 version did seem like they were bickering high schoolers.

This is living proof of how Winona Ryder is the best female actress out there, because she can play roles like Jo, and then she can play roles like Lydia from Beetlejuice
Yes Winona was technically too pretty to play Joe. But with her good acting and giving the character that raucous tomboy energy, she made her Jo believable.
Who’s here after watching the new one with Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet??
Yup. I loved that scene in their version
I can’t tell which one I like better. Jo was just a little off in the 2019 one, but I think they captured Laurie’s petulance better in that one.
I just watched it for the first time and I really enjoyed it. This will always be the superior version for me.
@@sarahxo2317 why do you think so?
I liked the 2019 version way better. I thought it was more realistic and I like the way Timothee portrayed Laurie way better. The pa8n is shown so much better in the 2019 version. I think both versions are good, but they are so different and hit so differently.
Why does younger Christian Bale look so much like Timothée they kinda act the same to. It’s truly amazing
lol Christian Bale makes Timothee look like a skinny 15 year old boy in my opinion. Couldn't get past that in the new version. For me Bale is so masculine and romantically handsome as Laurie; Tim looks like a kid playing dress up.
YesNelle YesNelle I actually haven’t watched the new version so maybe he did I was just kinda referring to him in other movies.

Pineapple Pioneer Its not that this version is less real than Greta's one. The thing is that the characters in the new adaptation adopted modern mannerism and behaviour, so they come across as if they were from our time. This scene is real but they act as two young people from the 1800'S
I understood not wanting Timothy Chalamet. I can wrap my head around that. Not marrying Christian Bale in his Laurie haircut? Ooh, not something I can wrap my brain around, as much as I'd like to. haha.

ugh yeah
Yeah haha
i’m so mad that i’m the 2019 version they didn’t kiss...
they didn't kiss in the book so I don't think it was necessary. On the contrary, I think it would be contradictory as Jo makes clear that she doesn't love Laurie that way and she never will. So I find it better that they don't kiss in the new one because it's more accurate to the book and to what the writter wanted. And she for sure didn't want a love story betweem these two, she wanted to show us a strong character who doesn't fall in love as easily as novels and film industry made us believe.
@@c.dawson5858 I agree. I also like the decision to not kiss because it really does emphasize their friendship. The new version also fleshed out Laurie/Amy and she is the only one he kissed.

I still can't understand why she didn't choose him. She went over there and married a dude who can be her father
the invisible me really? You can’t? She explains it very well and she’s absolutely right. They’re both headstrong but they’re total opposites. He would eventually want a wife that’s always there for him when she needs someone who will allow her to be free.
The profesor was totally on board with her working and writing, while for Laurie it was just a hobby worthless of interest. He only talks about buying her things, when he could help her to go to college, as she wishes. And it is also that thing about "providing" for her family, as if they need his money to be happy. So insulting.
I felt the same when I first saw this movie but when you think about it, Jo simply doesn't love Laurie the same way that he loves her. There are different kinds of love and she loves him as her closest friend - almost as if he's her brother. The idea of marrying Laurie would be so wrong for Jo.
Because she didn’t feel any butterflies or that earth shattering feeling...

2019 version: raw, crying from both of them and full of regret and sadness, filmed at an angle where Laurie is smaller than her (shes above him on the hill) showing his vulnerability, jo trying desperately to convince him to move on
My biggest flex is that I’ve rewatched this scene so many times that I can recite both parts by heart
I love the passion Christian bale showed in this scene
The reason Christian Bale became an actor was so that he could know what it's like to be a normal guy getting rejected...😂
Winona is the most beautiful actress ever, no contest.
No one can beat Christian bale as laurie or this actress as jo. They capture them so perfectly!
What!? She's Winona Ryder!
Nah Timothee and Saoirse did a really great job
True...but did you really call Winona Ryder "this actress"?...
@@waitsx4028 yeah she’s the Winona Ryder
Ain't no way you called her "this actress" when she is literally Winona Ryder, one of the icons in the 90s.
As soon as he said “I want you” it’s game over if this girl doesn’t want him I will take him 😂
This is still and always will be my favorite version of this scene. I’ve been watching it since I was little and it’s so incredibly beautiful and perfect in every way. I honestly feel like the performance in the 2019 one is not nearly as special or powerful as this one. Saoirse did a good job, but Timothy just....isn’t Laurie to me. This scene will always mean so much to me. And being older and a writer now, I want to rewatch the movie so badly because I feel like I’d appreciate it so much more than I did in the past.
I have never full heartedly agreed to a comment about the 2019 adaption so much. This Laurie will forever be the only Laurie for me
I really love how this scene was executed. I hope Timothee and Saoirse match up with their own different interpretation
Same from what I’ve seen in the trailer it looks great
I love timothee and saoirse but the talents in Bale and Ryder are indescribable
So?
They did. The proposal scene in that movie was equally good if not better and is handled in a much matured way.
Well... they didn't
If someone would kiss me like that,
promised me love, care for me and my family, protection and: "I'll be a saint, I'll let you win every argument" and promised me luxury? Y'all know imma say YES! 🤚🏻😌✨
Hahahaha same girl
Sameee
Ha ha
Saame. I would never deny marrying Christian Bale haha
Yess yess yessss 🤚
This is a very Anne of Green Gables moment (the 80s version with Megan Follows) when Anne turns Gilbert down.
OMG true
This scene will continue to break my heart forever
(0:55 saliva string YUCK!) Laurie and Jo are such wonderful friends. In my opinion Jo only ever loved Laurie as a dear friend but was never IN LOVE with him. (You can immediately see the panic on her face when he takes her hand.) What's more they were not compatible with one another and whilst all couples will have their differences, in the end their differences would have put a strain on their marriage/relationship and Jo knew this. The biggest flaw with is proposal though was his saying "Jo wouldn't have to write unless she wanted to." I think that was the final nail in the coffin to be honest because Jo IS her writing. It's the very essence of her being and it's what she wanted to do always...she wanted to earn her money through her writing. Laurie never truly understood this and also dismissed it as a prized hobby. Jo and Laurie are more like brother and sister. In my mind Laurie and Amy are a lovely couple and Jo and Bhaer are perfection! And i think it's extremely fitting because Laurie was always destined to become part of their family, just as Jo's brother in law not her husband which is so much better. The only thing Laurie was right about in this scene was that Jo would find a good man whom she would love tremendously and live and die for...Freidrich Bhaer.
who dare friendzoned Christian Bale
Timothee sounds just like him 🥺❤️ Pure perfection with the new cast ✨👌🏻 Really sad that Jo and Laurie never ended up together 😭💔
Aww, when this scene was sad. Totally not prepared for the scene with Saoirse and Timothée.
3:08 If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two.
I feel like this film did such a better job at building their relationship/friendship then the Greta Gerwig interpretation. In this film I really felt the love and adoration they had for each other and the build up that led to this moment. I really didn't feel that in the 2019 film. However, I did love the portrayal Amy in the newest film, that was probably its saving grace for me.
Same Florence’s performance as Amy was the highlight of the 2019 version and actually made me like the Amy/Laurie ship. However it didn’t have the same warmth or heart as the ‘94 version.
The rejection scene between Saorise Ronan and Timothee Chalamet is even more brutal than this. Ronan's Jo absolutely guts Chalmet's Laurie, and he looks like he is dying afterward.
First, he promises to take care of your family
Then he becomes Patrick Bateman
Finally, he is Batman.
Christian bale is so charming...
I have crush on Winona since Edward Scissorhands, she always pretty
*OMG. SAME. SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL* 😭😭😭
This kiss was so so real for me, I don't know why, I'm not the type of person who ships screen couples in real life.
Why did I watch this. Winona Ryder just broke my heart 😭😭 💔
oh i love little women 1994 version sm
Goodness! I just watched 2019 version, and I felt like I cheated on this movie! I can't! This is still the best!
Jo: * touches affectionately
Laurie: * touches affectionately back
Jo: nope
This scene truly reflects the complex nature of their deep and loving friendship - Jo knew she felt strongly for Laurie but also knew it wasn't exactly the right type of love. You can see she cares for him deeply and that their friendship is a tender one by their body language here. I feel like the 2019 version doesn't portray this complexity as well.
First I saw 2019 film then 1994 film, and I can say that I will watch 1994 little women again and again. 2019 is just a one time watch movie.
Winona Ryder and Christian bale, *chefs kiss*
This version will always be my favorite. The 2019 version was nothing compared to this.
I always thought Jo was Laurie's one true love
Not the other way around.
She was but it's unrequited
@@lestopia that's because Laurie loved Jo but it was unrequited and it's says that on TV tropes victorious childhood friend Laurie married a girl from childhood Amy but not the one he harbour romantic feelings since then Jo so Laurie was unlucky and victorious also he was hopeless suitor for Jo Laurie wanted Jo but didn't get her in the end cause she never wanted him back also on the Wikipedia Laurie admits his feelings for Jo which was obvious from the moment they met but she insists she does not feel the same way also it says Laurie is hopelessly besotted with Jo and waits years for his love to be requited but Jo does not feel the same and stay true to herself
Agreed. He settled for poor Amy.
No never. Laurie never realized what it was like being 'IN LOVE' until he met Amy . He thought that was love but it wasn't. It was habit. Being used to one's company doesnt mean you love him and you want to spend your life together.
I’ve always loved them so much. Now there’s basically a published fanfic of a book about them. Yay! Finally!
Oh really. What its Name? :)
Jo & Laurie by Margaret Stohl and Melissa De La Cruz
I got it. They don't work as a couple. It was better for them to remain friends. idc, I still ship them.
She was a lot more romantically interested in this than she was in the 2019 version. That kiss was legit. It was practicality that kept her away more than a direct feeling that she wasn't at all attracted to him. Well done scene, though not as tragic.
I’m in love with Winona’s hair in this movie 😍😍
I think the Laurie in 2019 was much more mature and emotionally stable, but I feel like timothee overdid it. Christian’s quiet subtle manner the whole time makes the last line ‘ and I’ll be hanged’ so much more poignant and you can really feel his pain, especially because he had managed to be light hearted the whole time but couldn’t keep it together anymore at the end whereas 2019 Laurie was just sobbing his heart out the whole time. Don’t get me wrong I think Timmy is a stellar actor definitely one of the rock of ages of acting but I find Christian’s interpretation really manages to show how Laurie is crushed instead of 2019 Laurie finally letting his feelings out as if it would kill him if he didn’t. I think 2019 Laurie was relieved, Christian’s Laurie was crushed
The most beautiful "Little Women" film ever
Winona and Christian were both just so perfect as Jo and Laurie
I never believe she doesn't love him. I think she is deeply insecure and think of herself less than him
Versi tahun berapa pun, versi negara apapun, paling nyesek bagian penolakan Jo ke Laurie...
Jo bener2 cewek egois yang pernah ada dalam novel dan film ☠️
winona and christian are always gonna be the superior jo and laurie!
I prefer this version of this scene over the 2019 version🥰
*Friendzoned
CrusadeOn kind of *brotherzoned
I knew someone was gonna say this.
I think she loved him but she knew it would not work because they are too alike.
His voice though…damnnn
This is one of my all time favorite scenes in cinema. Every time, I'm on the edge of my seat. Just say yes, Jo! Look what you're doing to this kind, beautiful man. Ugh I can't, I can't.
Same Here. Please someone Tell me that they come together in the end :'(
@@nanamaja9350They don’t😭
The 1994 version is the only one that deserves rights
1:35 Winona chewing a gum.
Laurie: "Do you like Phil Collins?"
Jo: "Phil who?"
Laurie: "Uh, never mind. I'll ask someone else in 135 years."
Not the woman he deserves but the one he needed
I can unless provoked lol I love Christian Bales acting
I love the 2019 version but thus is still by far the best. This is the first version i ever saw, and its just better to me. Plus it has more famous people (or people who have been famous longer), actors and actresses who have been doing it so long that they are legends.
