Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. I am cheering you on and so impressed by your progress. But, I am also impressed by your process. You are honest with yourself while challenging yourself, but also giving yourself grace. Well done. What a healthy balance that you are doing, while clearing your home. Thank you for sharing because I know you are helping others but daring to be bold. I will continue to encourage you.
Thanks so much for this kind comment! I'm glad you are following my journey!
What you are doing is very courageous. Not just being vulnerable and sharing on UA-cam, but it takes a great deal of courage to face fears, make changes, and be honest with yourself. Thank you for including us on your journey. It's been very inspiring for me!❤
Well said I agree!❤👍🤗
Thank you so much! It makes me happy I can inspire you. I'm glad you are here!
The moment you first stood in that corner, I felt a great sense of victory for you.
I love that you stopped each day and started where you left off instead of shutting down because you didn't accomplish it all in your first try.
YOU ROCK!
I am simply amazed that, after living like this for so long, you decided on your own to clean it up. And that you did the cleaning up on your own. It goes against what I have seen of others. I am truly impressed by you.
Also, your explanation of the reason for the piles (security) made so much sense to me. And it was a timely explanation because I kept wondering over and over why you kept the obvious trash (water bottles, empty to go cups, etc.) and that makes your decision to clean it up even more impressive.
I am glad I found your channel and I look forward to your videos each week. I look forward to cheering you on in your impressive quest. Thank you for sharing yourself with me.
I am so touched by your lovely comment. Thank you very much for taking the time to write it!
Panic attacks are so insidious 😩 My boyfriend calls mine “lizard brain,” because I get so frustrated knowing “rationally” that I’m safe, but “lizard brain” thinks that I’m in danger, and no amount of explanation, rationalization, or logic can calm me, just deep breaths. SO stinking proud of the way you listened to your body, gave yourself Grace, and didn’t give up. Rooting for you Mira!
You described it perfectly.
What you said about not worrying about more than keeping the room clean for today, reminded me of Matt 6:45 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ❤
Once again, you are proving how brave you are by being so open and vulnerable with us. Thank you for sharing your truth, and for helping to educate all of us. You are an inspiration to me. I am on my own path of decluttering and lightening my space. It has weighed me down for far too long, and it is time to change.
I hope you continue to share your journey and know that we are all right there with you, admiring your courage, honesty, and perseverance. Thank you again, dear Mira.
I started watching decluttering videos about 4 years ago and I had NO idea how many of us struggled with the exact same issues, anxiety, grief, and PILES! Thank you for sharing yourself with us and being a real person. We can all support each other to just keep going. Your outlook and logic is amazing. ❤
Mira,
I think your approach is a good one. You are taking a section at a time and clearing it up. I’m sure that helps you not to become too overwhelmed. You are making great progress
At least we know that you drink your water! 😀❤
No doubts there! 🤣
The fact that you like scrapbooking can be applied to your space! Scrapbooking is a type of organization, and a lovely one at that! Keep up your good work! 😊👍
I am watching your videos while working on my mountain. I love how you name the "piles" like "clutter corner and mountain". You're keeping it real and discussing your struggles is brave. Some of us watching you really identify with you. Thank you for sharing the good, bad and ugly! I definatly love your humor. Laugh or cry is my motto.
You are doing great! Tip: any obvious garbage (cup, water bottles ,paper plates etc) throw away first. Get them out of the way.
"Look at me, I'm a _____"! (I won't spoil the reveal) That cracked me up.
That particilar pile would give me anxiety too, and I'm pretty used to decluttering.
The medications were sobering actually. Mira, you were really sick, and 2 years from now with all our prayers and good wishes that will never be in your future, and you will be strong enough to keep it pretty tidy. I don't think you will ever go back to that again.
Once your living room is complete, you should check into having a water cooler with delivery. It would eliminate the bottle clutter, which also means more space in your recycle bin and being even more eco-friendly. I recently discovered that recycling plastic is actually more detrimental to the environment than producing new plastic 🤦♀️
Also many companies now have smaller bottles / easier to lift.
Wow you did a fantastic job - clutter corner is no more 😊
Yes! Thank you!
You’re doing great! I think with panic attacks there’s multiple factors. Although sometimes it’s good to step away sometimes it’s better to push through. It’s like wow, I had a panic attack and I did it anyway and survived. Then there’s times where you need to sit and cup your hands over your nose and mouth and just breath. My daughter has full blown panic attacks and it’s kind of scary. Mine are few and far between now, sometimes after a big decluttering project it’s like a delayed reaction and I’ll have a little bit of one thinking of how much stuff I just gave away or threw away. I love how you clean the little areas you decluttered.
Panic attacks are definitely complicated. Thankfully I haven't had one about the things I donate; instead it's during the decluttering. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You're doing such a great job decluttering & parting with stuff. I hesitate to offer any suggestions, but please consider replacing the myriad of disposable plastic water bottles with nice reusable water bottles & maybe a filter for your tap. You would be doing a favor to your house, your budget & for the environment.
I discover your channel a couple of days ago. I’m so impressed with all the work you are doing. Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. Great job !
Hey Mira, once again: great job 👏
I already commented on your last video, but MAN do you get many comments by now 🥹 good for you, it shows that you are very likeable and impressive in your progress!
But please keep listening to your heart and mind the line between pushing and overwhelming yourself 💜
If you have another panic attack I suggest taking a blanket, your boys and a hot cocoa and put your little blue chair in the laundry room, or if there is not enough space just take a seat on the washing machine. Here you have your claustrophobic feelings back 😃
And if that is not calming enough you can just get a few boxes from there, the craftsroom or ANYWHERE else and put them next to you on the sofa.
It’s your house and your rules, you can do whatever makes you happy (As long as you keep throwing out the bottles)!
And yes, humor is my weapon of choice too.
Mira…it is just so rewarding to watch you make such exceptional progress. 🥰
I love those pens too
They're great, aren't they?
I’m neat and tidy generally but I look through the dust pan. Sometimes little things get swept up. In my case it’s earbuds. Lol
Panic attacks debilítate me. Having several in the same day is exhausting, I understand your great bravery in dealing with that. I know. Ma you be blessed with peaceful moments ahead.
I love seeing every time you post! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on recovery of trash bins and acclimating yourself to new found space. 😊😂... I remember the bowling alley... this made me laugh! Also... someone mentioned your channel on MidWest Magic Cleaning this week on the “Monday Live” ... I hope your channel grows because of it! Also, I know if people come here from there... THEY WILL love it and YOU! You’re not just helping yourself... but your helping others. ... and your pups!🐶❤️🐶 keep going Mira. 🎉
Aw, thank you so much! I appreciate your kindness. And wow, what an honor to be mentioned there.
If you cleaned that piece of furniture standing in the corner, you could have some place for your books. Keep on going, you are strong!
Well done!
I have anxiety and panic attacks, but I'm the opposite of you. I get set off by clutter or if too much accumulates. I have to keep orderly, clean spaces or I will have a really hard time.
Good job!
I love your rambling, you have a great sense of humor. That huge wad of wires😳
Your page inspires me! Because of you I'm starting my own vlog. Thank you!
Thank YOU!
You are so brave! I could tell this one was harder for you, but you are brave and so strong and you can manage it even when you feel like you can't!! You are doing an amazing job!!
You did great! Your puppies are so adorable. I just binge watched all of your videos after hearing about you from A beautiful mess. You've gotten so much better at recording too. ❤️😊
Thanks for talking through all the decisions. It is so helpful for me to hear how other people make the decisions when decluttering 👍😃🎉❤️🌟🌼😎
Thank you for sharing! Your example is so inspiring!!
You're doing great! Give yourself some grace you are making major changes and these things take time.
I think that you are an amazing person and watching your journey is just so humbling. I look forward to seeing what is on the next video. I am currently watching all your videos from the start and it's just amazing how far you have come so far. All my love Annette
Wow, you are so kind! Thank you for this lovely comment!
You accomplished a lot. Congratukations.
I am one of those people you mentioned that are very organized. I am also a creative person who has always had too much stuff and went through a downsizing process. I am done with my journey but watch these types of videos because I like to see people pull their lives together. Most of them are people coming in and doing it for people but you are different. No matter how hard it is you started on your own and you keep at it and I am so impressed by you that I don't even have the words to tell you. I have binged your videos and I am rooting for you so hard. Doing it slowly like this and really understanding the reasons and processes convince me that you will not go back to how you were. Your life has changed for the better. I realize people don't clean because of anxiety and depression, but living in a mess only make anxiety and depression worse.
Wow, thank you so much for this lovely and thoughtful comment! I love your username, by the way. I'm a poodle girl too.
Wow Mira! Thank you for sharing how hard this is for you. Amazing job with the declutter ❤
It looks wonderful. You place is very nice. Love your floors.
check out Hoarder's Heart. she recently talked about "who am I without all my stuff". you're learning about your camera views. at 9:00 minutes, I think it's fine, but zoom out a little. the camera doesn't have to be close-a overview is fine. so amazing!
You are doing a great job. Do what you can when you can. You go Girl!🎉
You did an amazing job again 👍
Wonderful job Mira! Make sure you move the furniture, who knows what treasures you may discover ❤
Maybe when your friend comes again.
I just found you and subscribed immediately. You are incredible, and so inspiring!! You have amazing insight and wisdom, and a truly great sense of humor about yourself. It's such a pleasure to watch you.
As a therapist, I'll say that you're right, you should walk away if you get a panic attack. Panic attacks work against you and undermine the work that you're doing to build new coping skills. It's best to call it a day, get some fresh air, do some reflecting and come back fresh the next day. Taking care of your body and mind is an excellent coping strategy for anxiety. As someone with significant depression and anxiety myself, I've learned this the hard way. 😂 Keep up the incredible work. You got this!
As to the waterbottles: at least you stay hydrated!😊 Very important!
So true!
I am a new subscriber I am so happy I found your channel have a lovely up & coming week
Welcome! Glad you found me. I appreciate your sweet comment!
Your doing great!! Keep it up.❤
Great job the box of paper, the bag of chords can be a new short video for in between your bigger videos.
New sub.
Agree about being able to TALK to ANXIETY.
Midwest Magic Cleaning, a comment by a viewer on that UA-cam channel, brought me here.
I also agree about not being offended by such questions, I too would rather educate and allow a chance for compassion or understanding.
Welcome! I'm glad you're here.
So so proud of what you have accomplished!! Yay! It looks great! Do you think your friend could help you some more? Or would that be stressful? Sometimes it’s nice to have a little help and nice to have company too😊 Great job!😊❤
I'm sure she will. I definitely enjoy having her help!
I think it would be interesting to film your trips to the garbage, recycling center and donation center. I guess it takes skill to film this, i wouldnt know how but i see other people doing it. Just a thought to add a little variety to your channel.
I admire you for tackling this!
great job!!
Our plumber installed a water filter under the kitchen sink. There is a spigot 🚰 on top now which dispenses filtered water. We keep a filtered pitcher in the fridge for cold water.
JUST FOR TODAY!!! Love it!
Great job ❤. Keep going, it looks amazing.
You should pull out your couch and loveseat and sweep/dust under there for your next video!
Awesome job!!!
Would it be possible to not have a bin in your sitting room? I have a bin in the kitchen and the bathroom, and I just take things to one of these places…. Having less bins means less places to empty and you don’t get tempted to make piles on top of full bins all over the place. Not sure if that’s possible for you! But just letting you know it works for me 😊
Your laugh is so contagious! I love your sense of humor and the honest and open way you share your feelings throughout this process.
This was a big job. It seemed like there was an avalanche at clutter mountain lol. You took the breaks you needed (self care is super important when doing something that makes you anxious), and you came back to finish sorting through everything. Yay, you! I get that you're feeling like you've lost some sense of security, but you've gained a cozy and comfortable space to snuggle up with your fur babies and enjoy your movies. You're doing an awesome job!
PS: I suspected you were a writer of some sort because of your clever use of alliteration 😉
I continue to marvel at how brave and determined you are. You haven’t given up, given in or lose hope. Totally impressive!
Aw, thank you so much!
Good job!
The fact that you were suffering from a panic attack, but then pushed on, is quite remarkable! You should be very pleased and proud of yourself. What an accomplishment! ❤
Aw, thank you so much!
You amaze me! Doing this amount of work by yourself, and deciding to do it in the first place, SO BRAVE! Be strong!!! 💪🏼
Thank you so much!
So proud of you. So many people don't understand depression and anxiety and how it can paralyze you. You're doing great work.
Thank you!
Found you because someone mentioned you to Midwest magic cleaning in a Livestream...I've gobbled up everything and am a big fan and truly am enjoying taking this journey with you. I hope you're appreciating how much you're doing and how well not just the physical but the mindful way you're approaching it all...I hope you are proud of yourself...I don't even know you but I feel a little bit like I do and I'm proud of you❤❤❤❤
Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you found me! I appreciate your support!
I think pushing through shows how strong you really are. You didn’t know how much strength you have within yourself and you’re getting stronger everyday.
Wow, thank you!
Clutter Tower, Clutter Mountain and Bermuda Clutter Corner sound like they belong in a trilogy of a fantasy novel. You are doing great btw.
😂 I love that. Thank you!
Or one of my kids pirate stories lol.
Mira, do a scrapbook page that's a treasure map with these scary places that you conquered to get your life back!
@@labradorite8256I really like this idea ❤
When you started and I saw how quickly you sorted the trash, I was so proud of you! Then, you discussed the trash. It's a huge thing most people just dont understand! Good for you! ❤
Thank you!
Decision fatigue is real. Making decisions for every little thing takes a mental load. Acknowledge how hard it is but also acknowledge how you are moving forward. The weight is going to continue lifting off your shoulders. Congratulations on how much you have already accomplished!! You are doing great!!
Mira, thank you for inviting us into your home on your road to decluttering. That alone takes a tremendous amount of courage. You’re doing a fabulous job! Stay strong! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
I like your approach to decluttering. It's a marathon, not a sprint. One area at a time. Eventually, you'll enjoy your lower maintenance surroundings. I am proud of you!
My gosh...I don't know where to begin! I binged your channel over a couple days. I came over here from Bonnie at a Beautiful Mess. I want to say so much to you.
You are amazing and an inspiration.
You have the best laugh and attitude.
Your way of being self-loving and compassionate to your emotions and struggles are the best thing ever!
The fact that you take on one small space and take your time, take breaks when feeling overwhelemed, and do it over several days is so very smart (and again, compassionate to yourself).
I'm an organizational ninja and cleaner and I can tell you decision fatgue, organzing, and cleaning is VERY mentally draining. I can't imagine the amount of focus it takes, especially when you have ADD. My only tip for you is when you do feel overwhelemed or panicky, just take a step outside for 10 mintues. Getting in the fresh air resets our brains and also quiets it down at the same time.
Also, since I've been watching you clean I feel like I'm getting a pretty good idea of what your interests are and what your personality is like and I think we'd be scorching friends! lol
I really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability in sharing your journey with all of us. We are cheering you on and I look forward to seeing your new videos and being on this journey with you. You're helping so many people by being unfiltered and human.
Much love!
I love so much how you laugh at yourself and how good natured you are. My husband died and it began a 9 month journey of me decluttering. It was exhausting. I am so happy that I did it. It is incredible how much you are able to accomplish. Hugs to you and your sweet dogs. ❤
Oh, that must have been so difficult! Thank you for your kind words.
You are so brave to share your panic attack. I hope you feel supported by all of us!
I do, thank you so much!
I found an old Christmas card I had tucked away on my kitchen counter. It had a $100 bill in it! Thanks to your motivation it was Christmas all over for me again!
Wow, that's amazing! Congrats on the great find! Glad I could help in some small way.
Hydration Queen 😂
You’re doing great! This project is so inspiring, thank you for sharing! Your discussion of your inner anxiety monologues is so relatable and enlightening. Your self awareness is really impressive.
Sending you much love ❤
Thank you so much! This comment makes me so happy.
Thank you so much for sharing your process with us. You have a gift for describing what is happening for you and an insightful understanding of yourself.
Oh, wow. Thank you so much!
❤
❤
You are a warrior! You're doing such a fine job, and I think you've arrived at just the right philosophy, telling yourself that you will "keep it clean today". That sounds perfect, and much less cause for worry and anxiety, lessening the pressure that thinking too far in advance would produce. You're amazing.
Thank you so much!
I think you are an amazing woman Mira. Know we are all right behind you. Even more impressive tonight when you explain how daunting this is for you. Enjoy your clean space and sunlight and lovely dogs. The cords 😂 I feel you! Xxx
Thank you!
It's amazing how much you got to recycle and trash. Just stellar work, hon. "I just have to keep it clear for today." Such good self-talk. I'm going to use that. (Along with, "future self will thank me.") See ya next one! 🌻🍄
Thank you so much! See you next time.
Mira, there is another UA-camr on here by the name of A Hoarders Hart you might enjoy her channel because she delves into the why's of her Hoarder addiction and Decluttering problems. She is just so kind and helpful so she may be a source of kindness and understanding for you. Love you both and enjoy both of your channels so much
I love her, she's so great! Thanks for commenting!
Mira, coming to the realization of “today” is so great. It’s the very thing that keeps people from starting in the first place. The muscles that you’ve been exercising these last two months… they get stronger as you use them. Also, keep giving yourself grace to just tackle the task ahead. You’re doing great! And your babies are cute!
I appreciate you showing your struggles with decluttering your home. I think a lot of people don’t understand how important mental health is and what a toll it can take when you are going through tough periods in your life. The safe places we create make sense to us, but not to others and it’s such a complex thing to try to explain. It’s also exhausting feeling a need to justify it.
You are doing an amazing job ❤
Thank you!
You're doing a great job. The first go through is always the hardest, but once you have a designated spot for everything, it gets easier to maintain. Don't forget to move the couches and clean under them. It's so easy for stuff to get under there, especially without a rug
I call those pockets of organization "working systems"! I wish i had more of them... But when I find a system that works, I stick to it. A whole room can be a disaster but there's a small category where I know where everything is.
I used to lose my toothbrush everywhere - because it's so boring, and I would wander around while brushing, and then just... abandon the toothbrush somewhere. Somehow i found a cute toothbrush holder thing and now i put the toothbrush back there because it's just so perfect.
I did this with hairbrushes for years! Finally set up a whole thing, mirror....cup with brushes and combs ...and that's the only place I let them be
I love this!
I used to hate cleaning/organizing and only did the absolute bare minimum… except for my bookshelves! I could spend hours alphabetizing, arranging by genre, putting back the books that had wandered around the house etc. Maybe it’s just that I was surrounded by something I love 🤷. I’ve since put a lot of work into making cleaning a habit instead of a chore, but organizing my books is definitely still my favorite part though
I am so amazed and in awe of you! You continue to inspire me video after video. I’m proud of you for all that you have accomplished and know that you will continue to tackle your home, one pile at a time. I went through a similar battle in my old apartment. I found myself very depressed and overwhelmed (which lead to more depression and overwhelm). One day I was searching for my checkbook and I could not find it anywhere. Rent was due and I was frantic but I knew it was somewhere in my living room. So without really having a plan, I took boxes and in each room, I filled the boxes of everything that was on a flat surface (counters, dressers, beds, the floor, etc.) and put those items in the boxes. Clothes were put in plastic bags. I then piled everything in a corner of the room in which I was working. I found the checkbook underneath the end table next to my chair - whew!! I did not do any detailed sorting, except for obvious trash. This gave me a quick win-win as the flat surfaces were clear along with the floor that I could finally see!! In total, I had 76 boxes in my home to sort through and approximately 12 bags of clothes. Once I got all the rooms done with the boxes and bags, I started the sorting. Every night when I came home from work, I would go through at least one box, sometimes two. As my laundry was shared with others in the building, I would try to get at least one bag washed per week/weekend. It took me two months to go through everything. When sorting, I had a boxes for keep, donate, trash or to pass onto my kids - if I found items that belonged to my adult children, it went into a totes for them to take to their own home and go through. Like you, I was just “done” with living in chaos. It took a while and my decluttering muscles grew stronger with each day. About a year later I was able to purchase my forever home and it only took one truckload to get me moved across town. I realized I had gotten rid of at least 50% of my stuff. Once I moved in to my new place, as I was emptying the moving boxes, I was able to declutter even more as I quickly realized that there was limited storage in my new home. To this day I am still taking 2-3 loads to our local donation center each year. I still have more than I need (clothing & books) but I am no longer living in chaos. I will continue to watch as you find your new & improved, clutter free home because you continue to inspired me and it re-enforces my own decluttering muscles!! You got this!!
Something I've noticed about you as I have watched your videos, is that you are finding your inner strength. I watch the tv show Hoarders, and 99.9% of the people shown on there don't have this in them. But you have. You are doing a great job. ! Keep up the good work, you are well on your way to your goal! God Bless you in your journey. 🍃🍂🍁🥰🎃🍃🍂🍁
Wow, thank you! So grateful for your comment.
What I can do today. That is a wise decisionl every day is a new day . So impressed that you have accomplished so much.
You might get a Brita filter pitcher for your fridge. Would save you a lot of money and cut out the need to recycle water bottles. You are doing a great job!!
I need to look into that. Thanks!
@@PeelingAwaytheClutter They’re great! I’ve been using one for at least 10 years. You just have to remember to refill it when the water starts getting low, and change the filter every 2 months. I jot a note on my calendar for that (I’m old school) 😄
AWESOME job!🥳👏👏👏🏅Thank you for talking about the panic attack - I’m so impressed that you dealt with it and JUST KEPT GOING! You asked, who will you be without the stuff? You may be healthier - I would imagine the clutter harbours a lot of dust and possibly mould (which is why you have to wear a mask to clean), and it can’t be great for your asthma. You may be more playful - with more space for your dogs to run around and play, you may throw toys and play with them more. You may be more sociable - with a cleaner space, you could invite someone over to watch a show, or have a group meet at your place to go together to a holiday event. You may be less anxious, knowing items you treasure are safely put away, not lost in the mess. You may… you fill in the next one! Change is always difficult, but I tell people to steer the change, not fear the change, and you are steering the change! Keep it up, we’re rooting for you!
I love this!!
I love this too! Thank you so much! So grateful you took the time to comment.
@@PeelingAwaytheClutter You’re welcome, happy to - it’s the least I can do when you’ve spent HOURS working and then time editing, narrating, etc.!😊
I admire your perseverance in getting rid of your clutter !
Thank you!
thank you for sharing your journey and your progress with us!! every step is something to be proud of! and i know i feel grateful being able to watch you and other creators share your decluttering journeys, I think watching others build their 'decluttering muscle' helps me build my own even when im not actively going through my own stuff and these videos always encourage me to do something in my own space as well. :)
Yes there are definitely things that are easier and harder to get rid of, but I think that is totally normal for everyone. Maybe some of those harder things you can work on when you get more in a decluttering mindset shape. It makes sense that you've been making a lot of decisions and that can lead to feeling tired. Plus just shifting all of that energy in a room can make you feel like you need to rest. I think you're doing a great job. It sounds like you are getting a lot of self awareness around the causes of anxiety and therefore it helps you let go of more things mentally.
I knew I needed to declutter for good. I took about a year on and off and if I started with something where I felt anxiety, I would be able to say go to something easier today. Face the other on a day where you feel stronger. You are entitled to feel the way you do and to go at a pace which is comfortable. I can tell you when you finally turn the curve with this onerous task it will be replaced by things that give you joy… hang in there ❤
In love how honest you are about your feelings and thoughts. I believe you will help a lot of people this way.
Thank you so much!
Change is very hard for most humans. We LIKE things to remain the same. It causes most of us some level of anxiety when we deal with change-even when it’s so positive! Once your body and mind get more used to open spaces, you probably won’t react so violently. You deserve a clean and functional home. You deserve to have your things serve YOU rather than vise versa. I hope you’re feeling better, I know losing your pup was a huge hit. (I’m a big animal lover too!) I have so many “inspectors” supervising my every move too! Lol
Thank you so much. This comment is so thoughtful, and I think you're right about dealing with the space. Thanks for watching!
Mira great job Thursdays are exciting for me to see you videos.
Glad you like them!
