You cut your keep shirts IN HALF on the first pass, Mira!!!!!!!!!!! Be so very proud of yourself!!!!!!!! Now the quilt t-shirts can be packed away into the craft room, your donated shirts are leaving the house, and you have a good start to a MASSIVE pile that you conquered! WOOHOOOO!
I have been in the process of decluttering my clothes and that is how I feel too! I want to LOVE everything in my closet!!! That is my goal. You feel so much better when you wear the things that make you feel your best. ❤
First, I just want to say that you are doing AMAZING for tackling these projects on your own and with limited physical energy. I am so inspired by you and that's saying something because I organize people's homes for a living! I know this video is 6 months ago now, but I'm glad you tried this method once so you could learn that it's not the best method for most people. In theory it sounds nice to be able to look at everything we own in one category and then make decicions, but as you learned that can actually be very overwhelming and tiring. The decision fatigue that occurs is very real and your quality of decisions goes down the longer you work on one space in one sitting. After a while you start keeping things just because it's easier than making a decision. I always suggest to clients that they need to break these projects down into small, managable bites. There is no shame in only decluttering one tiny area at a time and you are the perfect example of that! Thank you for showing everyone what can be done with slow, persistent steps. I'm so proud of you!!!
The problem for me with the Marie Kondo method is that she says to only keep things that spark joy. But so many things spark joy for me that I could drown in them. Lol! The hardest things for me to declutter are sentimental items. Things from my childhood , or tho gs that were my parents, so I keep them. ❤
Mira - you are doing great!!!! Here's an idea for your consideration...1) Establish a limit for how many is reasonable for you to actually wear, maybe 20-30? 2) Take photos of the rest and any future shirts you have your eye on. 3) Put the digital photos of your shirts in one of those digital photo frames that rotate the pictures. You can enjoy them all of time!
You have done soooo amazing! To help your future self, it might be an idea that when you order a t shirt to replace the one that doesn't fit, you not only let the original one go but also one extra. So in 1, out 2. You can start with the maybe pile to make it easier. Letting go of 1 extra shirt will be a breeze after tackling this mountain. Also as suggested, save the project t shirts somewhere else than your bedroom. There will be less chance that they will get mixed up again. Lastly I would ask someone to make the quilt. It is a lot of work and it would be a huge treat to yourself after all this amazing work!!! You so deserve a huge reward after all this work.
Did I mention that I just started quilting recently? I have sewn for years, but never actually quilted. I would love to do a t-shirt quilt for you.❤😊 You may need more than one with all that you have, but we can talk about me possibly doing one for you when I'm up there next month. Great job on getting rid of so many!🤗
Dear Bonnie, what a beautiful gift the quilt would be for Mira! When I made a t shirt quilt for my son it took me 4 months. I was thinking about how busy you are, you might consider making this into a group project with others who love quilting such as a quilting guild or even just announce it online. Every quilter would take responsibility for taking 1 t shirt and follow the same directions so the squares all measure the same and one person can sew them all together. I used the quilt as you go method and that way did not have to quilt the whole quilt at once. For example you could say each quilter cuts the main t shirt design into a 12 inch square and stabilizes it with AF 101 Pellon cotton woven interfacing, which most quilters already have. Each quilter sews 1.5 inch dark blue quilting cotton strips (or whatever color Mira likes)around it. The solid color is very important to break up the patterns and to give the eye a place to rest, and to give a frame to the quilt. One person would have to do the quilt binding at the end. I love that part, but now that my erosive arthritis is so advanced, I don't know that I could. But I could do 1 square! For me, this is a very exciting project, full of love from Mira's subscribers!
@@LC-38338 I love the idea of getting several people to help. I would just be worried about them not quite matching up once I got them all back. That's the perfectionist in me. But...I could just schedule it into my week and make sure I do at least one square a week and hopefully have it done by around Christmas time. My friend Tisha loves to quilt and loves Mira as well, so maybe she and I can do this labor of love for her. I could even make a video (timelapse) of the progress as we go. I'll have to think more about it. Sometimes I have ambitious ideas that I really don't have time for, but I would really love to do this if I can.
Dear Bonnie, thank you for answering me, I know you are getting hundreds of emails per week, so very sweet of You! I totally understand your viewpoint. When these group projects are attempted they send very detailed instructions for everyone to follow which tell you, for example, use a 12.5 square quilting ruler to measure your t shirt square before putting edge strips and use a 14/5 inch square to trim final square. OR they refer you to watch an instructional video such as the one on the Leah Day Quilting website: "Quilt as you Go. Connecting quilted blocks" I very highly recommend that you watch this video because it might just make your quilt making much easier. She has excellent hints and is such an outstanding instructor. My best wishes for your channel and for your wonderful acts of service. I am so excited about the craft room clean up at Mira's house. I love organizing, especially craft supplies and I cannot wait to watch that video!@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp
Mira once again you amaze me. Thanks for helping me push through my clutter. I’m almost half done in my craft room organizing in one week since watching your videos. It took me over a year to get the courage to start. I feel like you are cheering me on. I relate to your feelings. Sentiment truly hinders my progress in getting organized yet in order to make progress I need to acknowledge that part of this process. Thank you again.
I am sure someone suggested this but I personally would store the ones that don’t fit separately so when you go to your pile you know everything fits and is an option. Well done on the hard work.
I bet a person who can make those quilts could also make you reversible tote bags for any of your super favourite shirts! That could use 2 or 4 shirts for each bag!
That is a great idea! When my son asked me to make a T shirt quilt for him, I did it but it took me 4 months. I cut a 12 inch square, had to iron a stabilizer, surround it with a strip of backing fabric etc. He loved his quilt but what he loved more is the zip pouch for toiletries that I made from the scraps of his favorite t shirts that were left over. It came out really cool. I could have made many more bags, I had a pile of scraps left over after cutting t shirts! The quilt looks beautiful on his bed.and I am sure Mira's bed will look great with a t shirt quilt!
You are doing amazing!!!! I would LOVE to see you do a challenge where you don't buy a single shirt but instead you wear a different T-shirt from your collection every single day, showing us your shirt each day. Setting aside ones that didn't fit or you decided against wearing and then at the end of challenge sorting through the ones you set aside. ♥️
That’s a great idea! T-shirt of the day every day. Just a photo of the one you picked that day. My niece had a lot of lipstick, so during Covid isolation she posted a photo of her with a different lipstick each day. It gave us all something to look forward to and kept the connections strong. I would love to see that.
Oh wow! You got through those t-shirts in record time. So proud of your progress. You seem like a different woman since Colt joined the family. Such a magnificent job of sorting! I collect fabric, books, and almost any kind of stuff. I have been going through my dinning room cabinets, finding serving pieces I haven't used this century. I've donated many and plan on many more. You inspire me, and I know you inspire others in the group. Love and hugs, my friend.❤
Perhaps the first thing you might want to think about is NOT buying any new t-shirts, or any new leggings, until you've gotten your current collection whittled down. No one says you have to be a minimalist or never buy clothes again. Just stop (slow down) buying for now. 💜 You did a GREAT job! Any progress, no matter how small, is moving forward.
Could you take photos of the shirts and make a scrapbook instead of a quilt? You could include the selfies of yourself wearing them and journal about your memories of the events.
She could do both. I think t-shirt material has to be stabilized for the quilt, but you can send them to someone to do for you. The quilts are beautiful and can be used on the bed or couch. It's nice to see all the t-shirts at once.
Some more observations and numbers from an outsider: - You got through 80 shirts within the first hour, which is a solid pace (each shirt took you less than a minute on average) - Most of the shirts in grey, beige and yellow were donated (I guess because you are not a fan of the colour) This is a great indicator for future purchases - Donating 99 shirts equals about 3-3.5 full washing machines that you neither need to wash nor manage anymore. That's a lot! - You got rid of 40%. That is a really high number, especially for a first pass and a category you strugle with - You kept 114 shirts. Including the ones you want to replace or dye, I assume you are at about 130. When you revisit this category every three months this year and get rid of 10-15 shirts each time (not a huge go through every shirt project like this one, just pulling a few out), you will be below 100 starting 2025 :) Taking out 10-15 shirts each time is also not as emotionally draining because you don't get rid of 40% but 8-15% of the whole volume. This will make it easier. You did so well Mira :)
The more I watch your channel I have learned how much we are alike! I love t-shirts so much I started a tshirt company. I make my own shirts that are nerd culture and Christian themed. I have a problem with t-shirts. I end up moving a ton of t-shirts into painting shirts and then when those get ratty I feel okay with getting rid of it :) I’m also allergic to dogs. We have had 3 shitzus. Teddy passed away 5 years ago, Boomer is 8 and Bella is 5. We adopted them from a friend and they were a bit of a challenge for the last year we’ve had them. They are starting to get the hang of it.
I'm super proud of you Mira!!! I know two things that used to help me was thinking how many days worth of clothes I still had per season and realizing that at no point would I be going even a month without washing clothes. Then after that I picked a realistic number for me and went through all my clothes and picked my favorites so if I had 50 summer tops I told myself 20 was plenty and I picked my 20 most favorite and donated the rest.
This is the episode I've been waiting to see because I absolutely love and live in T. shirts And you have the most amazing collection I've ever seen. My favorite T. shirts by far Are the concert ones
A game I play with myself sometimes in order to get rid of more clothing items is to make a pile of the items I haven't worn in a long time. I have to wear the item at the top of the pile. If I change before the day is out, that item has to go because I'm clearly not comfortable in it. I do have items that I only keep for sentimental value and those get packed away in storage, but if you're looking for any more little tricks, that's one of mine. I got rid of six pairs of jeans in one day and a handful of bras over the course of a week one time
Donating is so satisfying. I donated thousands of dollars of quilting material when I quit quilting, I donated my 100 piece collection of Precious Moments and my Christmas house collection. Oh also 12 Hummel plates. I do have clothes again to go through. My sister takes them to Benedictine Nuns
@GrandmaM I have recently donated a huge Mint in Box Barbie Collection to the American Cancer Society Discovery Store; then waited a month or so before taking in my vintage Ideal (1962) Grow Hair Doll Collection to them. I didn't want to overwhelm the small shop. (There was only one Barbie left on the shelf at that time which really pleased me.) I also donated close to a hundred Enesco Memories of Yesterday figurines to the Salvation Army before Christmas. I still have Hummels and Hallmark Christmas ornaments to donate. Why would I do that? Because I'm 81 years old and don't want to burden my family with dealing with them when I pass. There's no time like the present.
You got rid of SOOOO many, that's amazing for a first pass! I hope that you feel great when you take them to the thrift store, and that you get to enjoy the ones you kept more than ever.
I'm lucky enought to live in a big city that has lots of conventions- loved the photos you added. Feel proud - you went though them all and did part with a HUGE amount !!! Congrats
I am a snarky/fandom/sarcastic tee-shirt person as well.... I have just started to go through mine. I have been decluttering my life since June 2021. I went from a 2200 sqft home I had lived in for 20yrs to a 200 sqft RV in 6m. It was easy to delay those decisions at first. I did a general pass & gave all my kids their stuff. Then I had a storage unit until October 2023. I lost my job and then my RV. Now I am in a 10x10 room and can barely move. I now make 1 trip a week to donations, I keep purging and it has been so freeing! My hope is to be in my own apartment by the end of summer.
Oh wow. I'm so sorry for your circumstances. You sound like such a lovely, positive person. Good for you for all the work you are doing. I hope you get that apartment. Love and hugs to you.
🥳👏👏👏🏆🏅AMAZING job!!! May I suggest, instead of buying new t-shirts to replace beloved ones that don’t currently fit, you cut out the image in a rectangle, circle, triangle, or free-form shape, hem neatly (or leave raw-edged, depending on the look you want), and sew it on to the front of a plain tee that fits? That way you get to wear the image you like, without spending more money. (Unless you have to buy a plain tee, but you might be able to thrift them for very little). Better for your pocketbook, and better for the planet!😊
Maybe turn your dad's favorite t shirt saying into a cushion cover...possibly even have a collection of cushion covers for each season. The hard truth is they won't be sentimental to other family members...or if they are it will only be an odd one or two. A theme quilt is an awesome idea to enjoy them. The container method will help as well. You can only properly store or wear whatever your space will allow. Something that has helped me to let go is to repeat this mantra " Everything is useful, but is it beneficial?" As creative types we can turn complete garbage into something lovley...but in the long run it hinders our creativity...its a trap we all fall into.i thin you will hang onto to them for a while, but as you begin to heal you will be able to let go of more. Pretty amazing what you are doing. Decision fatigue is a real thing so be mindful of that.
Wow Mira, every shirt you own has a story. And you even remembered them all! I could see how hard this decision making was for you. Well done!! 🫶🩵 Love X Coline
Hi, Mira, great video!! Great first pass!! T-shirts mean alot to us but you can only have so many. Try decluttering again in about 6 months. Glad you were finally able to get thru it. I look forward to your videos because they make me happy.
I love seeing nerdy bits! I could tell from when I first started watching you that you are smart, just by listening to you talk. It's fun to see that flesh out as you share more details and stories :)
Even if you think your bedroom doesn't look like it, you have all those long hours "to show" in which you sorted and made sometimes very hard decisions! And a lot of that is here on YT, for you to remind yourself of that and for all of us to admire your hard work!😍
I fold my clothes the Marie Kondo way and stand them up in my drawers. I do cross stitch and beading along with a little bit of other crafting. I find destashing my crafting hoard the hardest. I’m pretty sure that is a popular hard one. It’s because we craft and we know we can do something with it so it makes it harder to let it go. I spent a few hours today going through my beading hoard and ended up with 2 gallon sized baggies full of beading and jewelry making supplies. I absolutely love the Marvel, Dr Who and Star Wars franchises and drooled over a lot of those great tshirts. I can definitely see how it is hard to choose. I would urge you to have someone else make the tshirt quilts for you. I say quilts because I feel you have enough shirts to make a few quilts. You are doing a wonderful job!
In all actuality, will all those “future” projects be touched? Maybe 10%. I just went through my storage space the past two weekends and got rid of 90% of the stuff. 70% donate, 20% trash and 10% kept. I could hardly believe it, but it felt great
Amazing job! You got rid of so many!!!Not sure what your plan is for the shirts that you decided to keep but do not fit. I just suggest storing them somewhere other than your closet. The closet is valuable realestate and you should save it for the the things you will be able to wear on a daily basis!
I’ve saved some tshirt images as screen savers so they pop up on my computer and I get to see them there! Your tin man/iron man cross over shirt reminded me - amazing video and work! Super inspiring - thank you for sharing + motivating us out here! Go Mira go!
Wow! So many fun shirts you kept and let go of! Well done! An idea for some of your project shirts is throw pillow covers. Then you could incorporate them into your decor and change the covers seasonally.
Well, pulling each items of the same sort into the same spot - that was not possible when I begun decluttering. Cuz even 2 years in, I found stuff which was part of a "topic" I already had tackled at least once. And even with me not doing it all at once, it was extremely overwhelming and for some sort of items it still is. (Year 4) There is stuff, which I only do 5-10 minute at a time, before I need a break. Often I can not say, what kind of items I will struggling with. Because tbh, getting triggered by shame, guilt, old good or bad memories or even feeling only tired and exhausted about making decisions is something which is unpredictable. Mira, you are doing a HUGE job and big compliments to you,. It´s always amazing to see, what you are peeling away and still able to do, even when life itself is a pain in the butt.
Great job! I got a tshirt quilt made from all of my college shirts through project repat. Definitely doing it again with all my pop culture tshirts at some point too. So worth it!
I’ve used Project repat twice-one for each of my adult kids. They turned out so nice. There’s always a coupon for them out there as well. A great company!! 😊
I think the Marie Kondo method is better for those who have had at least one pass of decluttering through the items. If you've never decluttered something and try to put it all in one room, that seems crazy overwhelming. However, if you've made a pass or two, and still have limited space, that may be the time to do something like that.
Excellent job! You were able to keep less than half to wear! Way to go. And the project shirts, a quilt is an excellent way to make use and keep memories.
I really enjoyed hearing the comments about EVERY t-shirt. I wish I'd been able to see them better, but that would've taken you so much more time, and that isn't the aim. Good job!!!
Wow!! You did that like a boss! I can't believe you managed to get through it all and let so many go. I loved the photo insets from your previous comic-con adventures!
T shirts that don’t fit should be an easy go. They will only take up valuable space. You said you liked the material but what good is it if you can’t wear it? I can’t believe you got thru that pile! I’d only keep the shirts I definitely loved. Where will they all go?
There are lots of ideas on pintrest for repurposed t shirts. Please consider donating your clothing to a nursing home. Some residents cannot buy clothing and the laundry is really hard thier clothes.
I use the premise of the Swedish death purge. Recently, I purged my closet, and whether I loved it or not, if it didn’t fit, then it had to leave. I don’t wanna leave useless things sitting around for someone else to have to clear up after I’m gone.I’m not planning to go anytime soon, but it just makes sense in my mind that someone else should not have to deal with things that didn’t mean anything to me.
I tried the Marie Kondo method a couple of times. The first time it was too overwhelming. The second time it worked better. It helped that we were moving so I had extra incentive. My main problem is attaching sentimental value to things. If it was a gift-forget it! I didn’t want to get rid of smaller sizes because I was losing weight and I was able to reclaim some old favorites. I am slowly allowing myself to donate too big clothes to avoid having that safety net in case I gain weight again. I find I can be stronger about turning down extra servings and desserts if my clothes are starting to feel tight. I do have boxes of sentimental doom items that I will get to when I’m not in a depressed state. It’s easier for me to purge on sunny days. BUT I also allow myself to keep stuff til later- guilt free. You can’t keep beating yourself up over past choices. ❤❤
In the last year or so I just started watching Doctor Who and I absolutely love it! I'm currently up to season 5 and I've been watching all the spin-off shows and mini episodes along the way. Loved seeing all the shirts you had!
You are continuing to be a champ at this! And continuing to expand my empathy for different points of view. I am an introvert and a huge Doctor Who fan but I’d never wear it on a t-shirt as I think my personality and hobbies are my own business that I only share with people who put in some time getting to know me.
I thought you did fantastic! Almost half went to donation! The hardest things for me to let go of is stuff the kids have given me and of course my scrapbook things!
Great first pass! 🎉 Yes, I tried the Marie Kondo method. I found it overwhelming. I left off on the first category Clothing. Now I started decluttering along with you: Team Peel 🍊! I own 8 graphic T-shirts. 4 plain ones. Some need to be cut up into rags. I used to have 50+ graphic Tees. It takes constant decluttering. I no longer have any clothing stored in boxes or bins. Its either closet or small dresser. I love graphic Tees and really had to break the habit of buying them. 😊
Oh suggestion….. take pics of the tshirts you want to find again donate them. Then you can take the pictures and do a reverse image search to see if you can stumble upon to get them in your now size :)
Ok my biggest collections and I have a few are books and scrapbook paper. For the past few years I’ve got into listening to audiobooks. Recently I looked for the audiobooks that I have as books. So far I’ve listened to 3 of them. Also did a purge of scrapbook kits, felt great and was happy that they went to a new home. The paper I’m working on using. Trying not to be overwhelmed. I’ve learned to work in small amounts of time. I’m looking forward to when you work on your craft room.
It's been enjoyable to go through your tshirts together. You have some very cool ones! It does feel good to let some go to make room for the favorites. You are so inspiring.
T-shirt quilts are wonderful. I made one for my granddaughter for her high school graduation. She started dance at age 4 and now at age 25 she teaches dance. She had picked out about 30 t-shirts. It was a big project. You could hire someone to do it for you Mira.🌹🌹🌹
Mira - I haven't commented on your videos before. I LOVE your wicked sense of humour - some of your t-shirts are hilarious. Keep up the great work, you're doing an amazing job. Tasha (waving from Victoria, Australia)
From your collection, I can tell that we share many interests. My biggest collection is wall plates from every country, state or city I ever visit.😂😂 you should be proud of your hard work!
Minute 17:30, but I better comment now before I forget what I wanted to say 😂 First off, you are doing awesome as always! There is no right amount of letting stuff go. As you said it is a process and you need to feel comfortable with it to keep going. The only thing I might suggest is to separate the t ‚They fit‘ and ‚dont fit‘ of your keep pile. That way you know that when you grab a shirt from your closet it fits and you can go on rocking ❤ the others ones need their own home. Maybe a memory box or something. Just an idea that helped me be less frustrated with my closet ❤
Wow ! I really didn't think you were going to let that much go . So proud of you!!!! ❤. I know how hard that must have been cuz I am a t shirt hoarder lol . I've finally got my t shirt hoard under control, but oh how I love me some t shirts . Good job ! Very proud of you.
Thank you for fostering! Anxious dogs are a lot to work with, but it is so rewarding to see them become comfortable and happy. I recommend a book called Help for Your Fearful Dog by Nicole Wilde.
I did some Marie Kando ideas when her first book came out,but as time has gone on is was no longer sustainable...although she has good ideas. I think that after she has had 3 (?) children she has done a lot of re-thinking of her ideas. I admire your persistence and good humor...I know from experience it feels good to give away things that "no longer serve me"...and will now serve someone else
I watched your video while I did a declutter and put things back in the proper homes. You were very motivating! I’ve tried Marie Kondo, but I find it more effective and less overwhelming to do one draw or tiny section at a time. I like to think ahead about what items are important to me, visualizing them in a spacious, decluttered spot. Then I’ll think about what I can get rid of, the more I get rid of the closer I get to that spacious, visually appealing end goal with the things I love.
You did great going through those t-shirts. You have really developed your decluttering muscles! I am looking forward to the scrapbook decluttering. I decluttered scrapbook supplies before a move and passed on many things to a scrapbooking group. It helps me to let stuff go when I can pass it on to someone else who will use it. The dogs are good supervisors! Hahaha!
As far as the hardest thing to declutter for me is craft supplies. No I haven’t tried the Marie Kondo method and I don’t think I could do it because I wouldn’t get through it. I would get bored and wander off or tired and give up and have a big mess. That’s why I like Dana K. White’s no mess declutter, method. If you don’t watch Dana K. White on UA-cam or listen to her podcasts I think you would enjoy it.
Omg you did sooooo good!!! I know your project t-shirts are not a give away, but you DID "get rid" of OVER HALF of what you had! You are so amazing! You always have the right mind set and know to pace yourself. Just keep peeling! ❤
Wow, that was great! You did get rid of half because some were for projects and some for donate and those 2 numbers were more than your keep. AND you may still get rid of some more with future you. You cracked me up with your voice over when you were talking about when you told your dog to fetch and at that time both dogs jumped off your bed. Good timing!
Wow! The tower of tees, lol! You are so brave, Mira. I finally got to the first sort of the top rack of my wardrobe a couple of days ago & I'm exhausted, drained & in actual physical pain; with my fibro, I'm very reactive to stressful emotions. I admire you SO much for all of the effort you're putting into not only decluttering & making your home more peaceful but in your generosity of sharing the experience to help us all & let us know we're okay, even when we're struggling. Wishing you continuing strength, Mira! And I am so excited to see your t-shirt quilt this year. What a great way to create a usable keepsake that takes a whole lot less space at the same time. Way to go!
@@PeelingAwaytheClutter Thank you so much, Mira. Your cheering me on means so much! Thank you for being here for all of us who get strength & inspiration from you. You have such a kind & generous heart. 💖🤗🙏
I have the most of clothes and now pens. It used to be books, music, clothes and shoes. I wittled down my clothes, shoes and books. Most if my music is online now. I decided to buy most of my books online too. But I put my favorite books in storage. The hardest part for me is pictures. I keep looking at the box and don't want to do it. I have a storage unit I will have to go through in the near future. My family has a harder time of getting rid of their stuff. My clutter threshold gets too much from them. Trying to help them.
WOOHOOOO!
Thank you so much!
I was basically going to say this same thing word for word. FIRST PASS, GIRL! You are killing it!
I accidentally spoiled this for myself and I'm not even mad. That's a GREAT result.
I thought the same thing, @jennywilliams2373. Feel proud of yourself, Mira! :)
That “I Hate Everyone” Cat shirt is my favorite.
“I want to donate the excess so I can enjoy the ones I keep”. Great, uplifting motto Mira.
Thank you so much!
Great idea!!!👍👍
The idea of a digital photoframe is such a good one!
Wonderful ideas!
Good ideas!
This is a really good idea. Thanks so much for commenting!
Did I mention that I just started quilting recently? I have sewn for years, but never actually quilted. I would love to do a t-shirt quilt for you.❤😊 You may need more than one with all that you have, but we can talk about me possibly doing one for you when I'm up there next month. Great job on getting rid of so many!🤗
❤ Bonnie, that'd be awesome
You're a freaking superhero! Thank you!
Way to go! I agree put the project ones away in a bin instead of taking up space in your closet!!
Holy cow! You cut the collection in half. So impressed!
Thank you!
👍💪🏽🙏🏾
That WAS FLIPPIN DAVID TENNANT! You lucky lady. I'm so happy for you. He is my favorite Doctor....well... and Tom Baker of course.
Oh my, you are killing me with all of those sweet Doctor Who Tees. They are so fun.
Fun idea. Thanks!
Thank you! Love and hugs to you too!
Great job Mira..give yourself about 6 months and go thru them again
Kindred spirits in the humor department 😂
Perhaps the first thing you might want to think about is NOT buying any new t-shirts, or any new leggings, until you've gotten your current collection whittled down. No one says you have to be a minimalist or never buy clothes again. Just stop (slow down) buying for now. 💜 You did a GREAT job! Any progress, no matter how small, is moving forward.
Could you take photos of the shirts and make a scrapbook instead of a quilt?
You could include the selfies of yourself wearing them and journal about your memories of the events.
I like this idea so much better, I hate the idea of wearable garments being cut up!
That’s a great idea.
Sewing stretchy t-shirt fabric is not easy.
You are doing AWESOME!!!!!
What a great idea!
She could do both. I think t-shirt material has to be stabilized for the quilt, but you can send them to someone to do for you. The quilts are beautiful and can be used on the bed or couch. It's nice to see all the t-shirts at once.
I like your observation that your t-shirts tell the story of your life. No wonder it's hard to let them go!
Some more observations and numbers from an outsider:
- You got through 80 shirts within the first hour, which is a solid pace (each shirt took you less than a minute on average)
- Most of the shirts in grey, beige and yellow were donated (I guess because you are not a fan of the colour) This is a great indicator for future purchases
- Donating 99 shirts equals about 3-3.5 full washing machines that you neither need to wash nor manage anymore. That's a lot!
- You got rid of 40%. That is a really high number, especially for a first pass and a category you strugle with
- You kept 114 shirts.
Excellent folding skills!
The more I watch your channel I have learned how much we are alike! I love t-shirts so much I started a tshirt company. I make my own shirts that are nerd culture and Christian themed. I have a problem with t-shirts. I end up moving a ton of t-shirts into painting shirts and then when those get ratty I feel okay with getting rid of it :)
I’m also allergic to dogs.
I got rid of six pairs of jeans in one day and a handful of bras over the course of a week one time
Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Wow, that's amazing! Good for you!
So sorry you lost your job and home. Hoping you get that apartment. Good luck.
Oh wow. I'm so sorry for your circumstances. You sound like such a lovely, positive person. Good for you for all the work you are doing. I hope you get that apartment. Love and hugs to you.
You went from 250 to 114 keep! (Plus the project shirts). That's a tremendous accomplishment.
Thank you so much!
They make me happy too. I feel like they’re a visit with an old friend.
So glad you compiled all the shirts, it really helps get a visual of how many you actually have.
I love seeing nerdy bits! I could tell from when I first started watching you that you are smart, just by listening to you talk. It's fun to see that flesh out as you share more details and stories :)
Wow, thank you!
Even if you think your bedroom doesn't look like it, you have all those long hours "to show" in which you sorted and made sometimes very hard decisions!
And a lot of that is here on YT, for you to remind yourself of that and for all of us to admire your hard work!😍
I can’t believe all The Doctors you got pictures with! That’s awesome.
99 T -shirts for donation
That is amazing ❤ keep going. I love seeing stuff go out to the car too! GREAT JOB!
Yes! Love that you shared the pictures! They deserved to be after all the money you spent. RIP STAN LEE 😭😭😭
99 items of clothing gone! That’s amazing Mira! Great job as always. 😊
The t-shirt quilt is a great idea! The t-shirts that you love that don’t fit are great candidates for the quilt
In all actuality, will all those “future” projects be touched? Maybe 10%. I just went through my storage space the past two weekends and got rid of 90% of the stuff. 70% donate, 20% trash and 10% kept. I could hardly believe it, but it felt great
Wow!!! You are letting go of 99 shirts! Great job, Mira! You are rocking it for sure!! So excited for you! Love to see this progress! ❤
Wow, you did it! Yay for you! Bet it feels great not having that task hanging over your head. So proud of you. You should be proud of yourself.
Good job! When my hubby was going through radiation for cancer, he got a new shirt for every visit. Forty five T shirts. Actually it was kind of fun.
Go Mira go!
Thank you so much!
Wow! So many fun shirts you kept and let go of! Well done! An idea for some of your project shirts is throw pillow covers. Then you could incorporate them into your decor and change the covers seasonally.
Great idea!!👍👍
Wow I like that! My sister once made me one of a Bert special t shirt of mine which i still cherish ❤
(Year 4)
There is stuff, which I only do 5-10 minute at a time, before I need a break.
Thank you so much!
Thank you! 😊
Do you have a clear plastic bin where these project shirts can go? You may not want shirts that don't fit in your closet taking up precious space.
agree, if they don't fit, they shouldn't be mixed in with your wearable / everyday clothes :) separate box!
T shirts that don’t fit should be an easy go. They will only take up valuable space. You said you liked the material but what good is it if you can’t wear it? I can’t believe you got thru that pile! I’d only keep the shirts I definitely loved. Where will they all go?
bins - One for keep but don’t fit. Second for quilt. Third - small collection of shirts she wants to replace with exact before tossing,
.
You are really making great progress!
You have some great shirts. I can see why it was so hard to let go. You did a good job
There are lots of ideas on pintrest for repurposed t shirts. Please consider donating your clothing to a nursing home. Some residents cannot buy clothing and the laundry is really hard thier clothes.
You brighten my whole day, Mira. Thank you for posting. Cheering you on from Oregon!
Thank you so much!
That is awesome! I love many of your t-shirts! The sarcasm in some, the irony in others!
Yes, I tried the Marie Kondo method.
Marie Condo method is my holy grail! Hardest thing for me to declutter, though, is craft supplies and my kids clothes.
Oh suggestion….. take pics of the tshirts you want to find again donate them. Then you can take the pictures and do a reverse image search to see if you can stumble upon to get them in your now size :)
Mira Concert T Shirts can be worth good money! Make sure to check before getting rid of! Great job I enjoy you videos
I’m happy your pups are poodles. No hair on you precious shirts. 👚
Well done! What an achievement 😮
Bravo, Mira! Since you are a “Frozen” fan, perhaps you can make “Let it Go” your song to sing when you are struck with a wave of indecision. 😄
It's been enjoyable to go through your tshirts together. You have some very cool ones! It does feel good to let some go to make room for the favorites. You are so inspiring.
Mira you did an epic cleanse!
I’m so happy for you!!
Great job!
YAY! It's time!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂
Mira - I haven't commented on your videos before.
I LOVE your wicked sense of humour - some of your t-shirts are hilarious.
Keep up the great work, you're doing an amazing job.
Tasha (waving from Victoria, Australia)
Thanks so much, Tasha! Appreciate your comment.
you are doing such a great job! we are all so proud of you, keep going!
Thank you!
From your collection, I can tell that we share many interests. My biggest collection is wall plates from every country, state or city I ever visit.😂😂 you should be proud of your hard work!
I organize my clothes by color. That makes it easy for me to put together matching / co-ordinating outfits.
Nice job!😊
Minute 17:30, but I better comment now before I forget what I wanted to say 😂 First off, you are doing awesome as always! There is no right amount of letting stuff go. As you said it is a process and you need to feel comfortable with it to keep going. The only thing I might suggest is to separate the t
‚They fit‘ and ‚dont fit‘ of your keep pile.
Island of indecision.. I have one of them too, surrounded by oceans of tomorrow’s tasks and the mountains of procrastination 😣😂
So relatable.
Vintage single stitch t shirts can sell for a lot! Look them up! Especially concert tshirts
So excited to see you, You are precious! Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you so much!
What a lovely comment… I agree, Mira is very precious ❤❤
I appreciate you talking about the dog training. I'm fostering a nervous dog and am trying learn more about how to help her out.
I think it is so funny when the fur babies give us some comic relief
They definitely brighten my day.
I agree. I prefer to declutter in sections instead of by genre/category. Thanks for commenting.
Yeah, I think craft supplies are going to be tough for me too. Thanks for commenting!
Way to go!
Thank you so much! I wish you strength and relief from pain. You are doing great too!
@@PeelingAwaytheClutter Thank you so much, Mira. Your cheering me on means so much! Thank you for being here for all of us who get strength & inspiration from you. You have such a kind & generous heart. 💖🤗🙏
😊 Haven't clicked this fast in awhile! 💞
