- BareBonesMusic.com caught up with Ray Luzier, drummer of KORN, back stage in the band's dressing room at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. Having just given a sit down interview with Agent eX, Ray hopped up and sat down behind a practice drum set in the band's room. Ray then gave a drum lesson, section by section, on how to play the band's latest single "Oildale (Leave Me Alone)" of their new album "Korn III: Remember Who You Are". Also making a guest appearance in this video is Munky, guitar player for the band.
“Know your rudiments” Best advice to any drummer who wants to add flavour to their playing.
That moment when you hear someone kicking ass on drums in another room and then u realize that its actually your drummer :D
I just saw Korn last Tuesday, and this guy is their new centerpiece. Everyone watches him on stage. He's a fantastic drummer, and he's a lot of fun to watch.
so down to earth and a hard worker...he's self taught but PROFESSIONAL ALL THE TIME...!
Ray is the man, I've always been impressed by his skill behind the kit and more recently I've been blown away by just how great of a personality he is. He knows his shit not just in terms of drumming but also in regards to being a professional musician.
I really like him as a drummer. He has great advice to learn the basics. He is just awesome
best drummer they ever had
Thats like your opinion dude...
There's different types of better or best for me i like David. Ray is a bad ass technique and he is super steady and reliable
#Ray Luzier "Aaaalll Day" !!
Absolutely brilliant
I Love this fella!!!!
man that little kit sounds amazing!
What kind of kit is that?
+illsalvo78 I'd like to know. That thing is fucking killer!
Could be the Yamaha stage custom hip
@@illsalvo7854 I know I'm answering after a 6 years and you probably don't even need to know the answer anymore but that kit that Ray is using in this video is made by OCDP 😃
I wish more people would watch this. It's nice to have a well known musician say you need to know the basics before you can play this and this. Rays a great guy. Check out other things hes played on. He is a MONSTER!
Just as he advised, he is such a clean drummer!
That's an unmiced drum-set yet Ray made it sound so cool, nicely tuned.
Ray: First interview drum lesson ever!!
(silence)
Munky: I still don't get it.
Ray: I don't either!!
Haha that's gold!!
Ray is so on point in terms of his technique, and more importantly, the right way to learn. While I had a great jazz instructor who helped me learn my bassa novas and swing beats, I spent too much time in high school smashing perfectly good drum heads and turning around the beat. I was the best in that small world, but if you want to be truly great you have to stick to the basics.
Met Ray randomly outside the KoRn gig last night, lovely, lovely man!
One of the most creative and passionate drummers alive!!
Please Ray. Can u do a lot more of these.... very helpful.. . Thanks
what a great drummer & (more importantly...) a great person overall!
Young drummers, take note. Learn the basics, then graduate to blast beats. It's helps.
Yeah, but the urge to do so is there. Most young drummers wanna learn way too fast and be a monster behind the kit before taking the time. That's what I meant.
I love his style hes a great teacher too wish he'd do another clinic soon
THE GREATEST DRUMMER! RAY LUZIER!
I wonder how many drummers take time to listen to the songs and figure things out themselves? Learning by ear and feel is how I learnt, and it's really paid off. Being able to figure out what part of the kit is being used and when by listening to the track over and over can be a useful and intuitive skill. Especially if you have a song to learn quickly.
ViciousMandy32: That’s basically how I learned to play drums back in -08. I still do it to some degree.
munky is awsome xD like " waaah man wtf is going on in here?" :D gotta love them all
A great rock drummer
"Apparently, air drumming is where it's at". Tommy Lee is known for that. Air drumming died in the 80's. I wish someone would tell him. At this point, it's obvious. Anyways, Ray is the drummer in Metal in the last 10 years to bring back the basics in heavy drumming. People who don't know that haven't caught him live. The guy's a monster!! His fills are incredible.
Dude your absolutely right about that saw them at Rockville 2014 they were amazing and Ray killed it up there
Hell yeah hes a fucking machine, seen him 4 times already and the solos are so fucking sick. And very humble man.
You Obviously dont know Morgan Rose, this guy is a fucking monster on the kit, check him out
badcrowJC : I know Morgan Rose. Drummer of Sevendust. I like 7Dust, but Morgan's drum patterns seem recycled. Every album sounds a carbon copy of the previous. But he's still a badass drummer. Just wished they'd go outside the box a little bit. Yeah. they did some acoustic stuff too, but.
thanks for breaking it down ray! that's what make drummers better is learning from others. i'm a drummer and have picked up some things from this. you're awesome, keep making vids!
Down to earth guy..Awesome!!
Munky's such a legend, even if he does have a fucked up body
Toast it’s from an old school korn vhs called who then now
"Money making beat ....!! " Great advice and wisdom-share. 03:44
This is the coolest drum interview I've ever seen!
love his air drumming
I dig that little kit. Sounds great. I'd love a little, good quality, travel sized kit like that
I found this hilarious and informative at the same time!
What a cool guy! amaaazing drummer, but seems really down to earth too!
Pluss how amazing does the floor tom sound!!??
What a good lesson from Ray! you fuckin`Master man! best Ray!
What a class act!
awesome!
best lesson ever
perfect edition to Korn
Love it says this drummer
money making beat man !!!!!!!!!! ray ur freaking awesome
Great guy!
Ray's awesome :)
i need that set in my house
Says who? You? Korn, if for *nothing* else...has been about its LIVE SHOW and the experience that comes with that for the fans...and Ray delivers! I know alot of people that aren't too into Korn but admit that their live show is incredible. That's a win for the fans. Period.
Ray is awesome!
3:38 - Tim Pederson's "money groove" philosophy :)
He’s like showing himself how good he is however did he have a signature song that listeners can tell it’s something special? He’s a good teacher for sure
indeed, thank you!
Ray's a 😎. So humble
absolute gnarliest stache
eugh.. i really used to not like this guy..but after this interview i think that he's actually....a pretty damn good and cool guy
alot more respect for you ray and i apologise for ever doubting you
grande ray!!!

Guy is a machine.
i want that bass drum sound!!
what is the intro song's name ??
What a guy

"Think Clean", the bezt lezzon taught!🤙
fits very well korn
You like to use that swiss army rudiment with the double bass too! especially in ur solos.
5:30 'and bossa nova' :D
HOLY MOLY!!! How does he spin those sticks like that!?!?!?
Great video, i'm a begginer, but all i really want to know is how to drum like Ray and David Silveria. so i'll be studying this and any others that you may have recorded, i hope there are more.
Playing "like" Ray Luzier involves a lot of versatility and many different musical influences. Be careful not to be locked into one style so you can only play, for example, hard rock.
What was that intro song (the one after they were done talking about strings).
cool
Yo también quiero tocará la batería como Ray
we all miss them but shit happens.. gotta move on.. and hope for a reunion tour ;)
DAT SNARE!!!
Damn if i had youtube as a kid i would of been a beast
nice sounding small kit
He have the groove
To correct my misspelled word, I meant to say down. Watching Ray, almost makes me wanna put down my guitar and pick up some drum sticks. I've never been inspired to play the drums before......
@metaljamzander
ain´t a song of korn but maybe it´s played on barebonesmusic homepage, maybe look there...
I´m too lazy to^^
@zendrummerSG Its an OCP( orange county percussion).
Ha I'm a drummer so I understood all terms lol. POST MORE VIDS!
Simple riff but it’s a fucking aggressive one of the best drum riffs honestly complicated riffs ain’t all that simple ones are just as good
Thouse tom.sizes are sickmm
Where can I find that drum set? Because I would like to have one besides having my Mapex Venus Series and Ludwig Breakbeats drumset
ray is a badass
of course Ray is awesome......but don't forget that DAVID HAS MADE HISTORY
Watching this video at 2.0x speed is some of the funniest shit ive seen. Ray tears it up twice as fast!
una pregunta para los que entienden español, que fué del otro baterista de korn el anterior, acaso este baterista es el que la vez pasada dijeron que salió el baterista del grupo de slipknot para pasar a korn?
What's the song at 00:16 plz ?
+Xavier Dupouy Anyone??????
Twirl...Point...Pucker
Ha!! Words to die by!!!
Qual é a música que aparece no começo e no final do vídeo???
como se llama la cancion que aparece al final?
yeah, Tom-Tom,....its so cool how he says it.
i laughed at 4:10 my ass off munky just thinkin wtf is going on right here with alle the filming and drumming loool
***** He makes some good points for beginners
anyone know if ray drinks? i've seen a few interviews of him after he joined korn and he talked like he was hammered in some of them
"bossa nova"... Brazil Rules!!!!!
Can someone tell me what that drum kit is? I'm guessing it's an OCDP kit, but where can I find it?
Joey has some fast songs but on Vol 3 and the 4th album there are alot of ROck songs and Ballads
KoRn hit a gold mine with this guy. I liked David's style, Ray just fits better. He's the drummer they never had
4:40 basically true for any instrument
"you twirl, you point, you pucker".
LOL...
Ray seems to be a pretty nice guy
Haake and Lövgren from Meshuggah, clinic (long version)
