It's mind-boggling where youtube can take you. The tryout popped up on my suggestion list. Never watched anything like this before. Saw John in the tryouts - SO obvious he was the best. Impressive. Was anticipating the announced winner at the end of the tryout video and...nothing! WTF. So had to google the Drum Majors at OSU and landed here. Congrats John. Glad you got it. You were so easily observable as the best at the tryouts. Those running kicks were awesome. On point and right on the beat. Made for a very satisfying watch. Consider me a fan (from Texas).

You can make your mark on history in a lot of different ways. I don’t know anything about marching bands, I almost never watch football, but I do know this man’s name and probably will never forget it.
Everything America is is in that Drum Major strut, fantastic
This is so cool seeing our children here in the United States of America showing an ability to work together as a excellent well oiled machine. Go children who will and prove themselves as growing adults. I think I can say for many USA Citizens, "OUTSTANDING "
This drum major is really good... exciting to watch. Really ramps up the team spirit!
As a major marching band person, I would have loved to see this band live or maybe even be a member!
Just watched the video of his try out to be drum major. He was head and shoulders above the rest. Cool to see him doing his thing in the stadium. New found respect for drum majors and in this instance the Ohio State marching band which is simply superb!
Insanely great backbend from an incredibly athletic Drum Major! Absolutely TBDBITL!!
Absolutely flawless. I really enjoyed it.......
For some reason, the tryouts for drum major showed up in my feed and John was trying out. Then this clip. Man, what a performer. I wonder what his major in college was. I bet he's successful by now in whatever it is.
I have watched this over and over because the band and drum major are AMAZING. Love it.
Great athleticism! And showmanship!
Gives me goosebumps every time I watch this group and John
As a lifelong and hardcore buckeye, every single time it just gives me goosebumps and I'm ready to play!!!
This is amazing. You are so talented!!!!!
I’ve never seen anything as bonkers as this, I freaking love it.
This marching band has officially make me an OSU FAN!!! Their precision is beyond words. What a treat to watch!!!! John LaVange is amazing!!!
Gives me chills and smiles at the same time!
Will we ever in our lifetimes be blessed with another drum major as good as John Lavange in college football?!! A legend.
I finished my undergrad at a HBCU and of course our bands are known for our halftime 'Shows'. Got to admit this was pretty good....persicision and cadence was excellent! I have no words for DM John LaVange.....dude is just 'sick' in a good way!
John, When I first saw you in the try outs I knew you would pick as Drum Major. I have been to so many OSU home games and watched the band come on the field. When the Drum Major comes on the field it is a sight to see. Congrats to you.
The band''s entrance was awesome!
I found your video and being a once very serious baton twirler and majorette from the age of 6 I fell in love. Thanks for making this old lady remember those amazing days of life in the Marching band.
I watched all of the try outs, John was good throughout. I knew he would get it.
I I was president of a Fortune 500 company and someone applied for a job and said they were in the OSU band I would hire them on the spot. The level of concentration, discipline and teamwork shown here would be enough for anyone to work for me.
I’m a Texas A&M grad and want to say that was amazing. Kudos to y’all. We have a very special military marching band and y’all should check it out too. We have the best bands in the nation
I never tire of watching TBDBITL!!!
I remember when marching bands like this were the half-time entertainment at the Super Bowl
Flawless routine John. Thanks for posting.
He is a great drum major👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Amazing and beautiful...so much hard work resulted in perfection. The best part of football is the marching band. THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!
John LaVange exemplifies perfection.
Brilliant! Greetings from Ireland!
