  • Game day hype builds to one big moment for Ohio State’s 60th drum major, Nathan MacMaster. Standing at the top of a long, dark ramp, listening to the roar of 100,000-plus fans - he focuses on the job ahead and relies on the decades of tradition behind him.

    One of the best, if not the best, memories i have of my time at The Ohio State University, was being nominated to Homecoming Court and being down on the 50 yard line for pregame. I still get goosebumps and chills when I recall how TBDBITL came out with that wall of sound and the drum major ran out on to the field...

    Mad respect for all those who have marched,stand on the field today, and will continue the beautiful legacy. Standing at the 50 staring at the lights and crowd above will always and forever be one of my most dearest accomplishments. Without music and marching I wouldn't have taught myself ambition and drive.

    I'm new to this, but Ohio State Marching Band and the other greats that I don't know, seem to have created an entirely new art and athletic form... perhaps it should be considered for the olympics or world games...demands athleticism, artistry and intelligence...some of those formations are quite complex and doing them while "sharing their oxygen" with the arts and non stop specified movements earns respect and admiration. British gal here, btw.

    Those of us who were "band nerds" loved our time in marching and concert bands. It was an enchanted time, but it was DECIDEDLY not "living my dream". If your highest aspiration was to be a drum major in a college marching band, whatever will you do with the rest of your life? You're in your early 20s--that gives you about 60 years or more of living your "glory days" as an OSU drum major with no other goals. That's not just sad--it's pathetic.

    Not a real marching band. Drumline using slings? High stepping? Drum major twirling a baton? What is this? A show band? Show me a corps style band. The right way to march and play.

    • @noahsuess2806
      @noahsuess2806 4 роки тому +3

      Your definition of “real” marching looks more like walking to me. I’ve done both. High step military style is more physically demanding, and makes it harder to play well, which requires more attention to individual technique. It’s also a better system for learning all new music and drill for every game, which in my experience, most corps style bands don’t do, which is incredibly boring. Who wants to see and hear the same thing every week? They each have their places. It’s a college football game, not a DCI competition.
