I have a great mechanic who is very honest and he has never done any work that is not absolutely necessary. That said, he has to make a living and labor in his shop runs over $100 an hour and he buys parts locally and marks them up to cover his cost of procuring the parts. As a result, I estimated that I would spend about $600 to do this job on my truck. I dreaded doing the job myself but this video showed me exactly what I needed to do. I bought the parts for less than $100 and did the job myself on my 1998 F150 in about 3 hours. This video made all the difference between struggling with the job and getting it done smoothly without any problems. I am retired and 75 years old and it really feels good that I can do something and make the equivalent of $500 on a Sunday afternoon.
I just had my waterpump replaced and is now overheating just driving 1-2 miles. The thermostat was replaced also about 2 months ago.If i understand correctly on this vide for this model car the coolant system does not need to be burped like on another video on this channel which says some vehicles needs to be burn and some dont?

what does it mean when my pulley or pump itself appears to be moving in and out like bobbing in and outward. I have a loud screech chip and a loud gravel in a barrel sound...
Hey there just wondering if the fan is not put in the right way and broke the waterpump and bearing will that cause the truck not to move forward or backwards
Thanks for making this video. I am in the process of chamging the water pump now. Can a bad water pump cause a loud tapping sound? Any reply would be gret!
it can depending on how it failed and the type of pump. if it is the pump, REPLACE IT ASAP!! there will be wear and metal shavings can plug up your radiator and cooling system requiring a replacement
I'm thinking it might be a good idea to, at least, inspect belts & hoses if not replace them with the water pump. They have the same mileage and age as the water pump. Sure there is an increase in money and time, but also peace of mind for us high mileage guys. Thanks for the video. My 2000 F-150 4.2L may be more difficult due to AC hoses & tighter space.
+Troy Trombley This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. The item in the video also will not be correct. Thank you for asking! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Cut the shroud in two pieces using zip ties or small lock nut and bolt, or.....best option go electric fan off a Lincoln Mark 8 fan , moves Hugh mount of air, but pigtail for it and buy a fan relay thermal switch kit, or thermal fan controller with relay , maybe over ride switch in the dash. Done, better power more mpg

Very good job explaining how to do that. The only thing I would recommend is discontent the battery cable in case there might be an auto start device. If that fan comes on while your Working on it would be disastrous!
That is the first time I've ever seen someone wiggle out the fan right before taking off the shroud lol Do you take your socks off before your shoes? Too funny... Other that that little bit of humor, it's a great video. Very helpful, thanks.

Thank you.you saved me $500.00.i do all my own work. But did not know how the pump came off my f150.have a nice day.
very nice video lots of uncessary steps but needed for beginners.
You put the wrong coolant in this truck. It’s should always be green coolant in pre 2004. Never orange. That’s for gmc and Chevy
That's a jack handle? Because I always thought it was to hold the hood up x.x lol
Great job. My brother had a crack on the shroud it would over heat the engine. Put a new shroud no more over heating.
I would do star pattern on the pump if you want it even. it's not a big deal, just something different
Thanks guys your videos really helpe me, keep making more and what I like is the way y'all explain small details but helpful.
Mine is a 2000 and the ac compressor is on the opposite side so therefore the removal process is different.
Motor oil on the oring for water pump??? Nice.... that'll lead to premature failure. Silicon based lubricant is best...

How long do the water pumps last on the 2000 4.6 L ? give or take ?
Is it age or miles that cause their demise ?
@@dfls5069 More or less age but you should replace atleast once on your truck then normally should last the life of the vehicle on the 4.6 and 5.4
I need the clutch holding tool and thin nut wrench, your site does not list these. Any suggestions?
what does it mean when my pulley or pump itself appears to be moving in and out like bobbing in and outward. I have a loud screech chip and a loud gravel in a barrel sound...
I'm taking a 4.2 V6 out of a 97 f150 two-wheel drive do you have a video

step 1 - take apart half the engine.
step 2 - good luck putting it back together
If you take apart your truck and don't know how to put it back together you should probably just take it to a mechanic lol
Wow , I'm Loving my 95 f150 4.9 more . Oh wait , the oil pan ; never mind.
I still think ford should have done a two piece fan shroud in these years
Wait, why do you keep saying my fan will be on and in the way? Dont you have to take the fan off?
Thank you!!!!!!very helpfull
your old fan was a wreck ! What happened ? Looks like schrapnel took out the shroud. Good repair though.
Grat video
