I love Sonic Superstars but they should be AA prices like $39-49.
You misunderstood the whole meaning tbh. They clearly stated that they want to surpass the level of quality and become better in the franchise so they can compete with mario one ,with upcoming new titles and return to good old glory days.

If AEWFF stops messing around with stupid minigames and side games, I might care.... might. The past 2-3 patches were mostly "fixes" with little to no additional content to its core game, the core game that is lacking severely. The CAW doesn't even let you use the faces of the existing roster to create new or updated wrestlers like No Mercy did.... back like 20yrs ago!
They're bringing a Cage match and a new game mode called "Beat The Elite".

When it comes to Sonic being bigger than Mario, I can see them being bigger in having storylines that people always talk about or having a ton of diverse content. But Mario is also starting to be ambitiously weird that people like with the amount of GOOD RPGs being released. If Sonic wants the movies and tv shows to be great, they should take whatever Frontiers and the bigger Sonic games are doing and just do that for the video format.

since sonic advance? yes sonic advance on the f*king game boy advance in 2001 de dream cast was already defeated by the ps2. yes, the ps2 finished of the dream cast. for example. grandia 2. in 2000 it was on the dream cast, then later ported to the ps2 with a bad result. now adays grandia 1 and 2 are now switch only games. no i dont name the pc. because after all, even if the ps5 is here, the pc is always and will be always bstronger.
for me? its the switch or pc. no need for a ps4 or 5.

Sadly, I think Sonic Team will just abandon what worked with Frontier & move on to some new gimmick or design... like usual.
Feels like Sonic games follow the Pokemon motiff, where you always think "good foundation, but they have to build on it!" Then they never do. New games, new gimmick, ditch the old gimmick, rinse & repeat.
Then again, I skip quite a few Sonic games these days, so it may just feel like that to me since I don't play every entry anymore.

The fact that Sonic gets to appear in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade 5 times and not Mario is a crazy testement there. And I'm shocked that Mario didn't get the big chance to be in this year's parade despite the success of the movie and SMB Wonder.
WHAT? Nintendo would have to agree to put Mario in the parade, and most likely pay for it. Nintendo is not going to waste money on that.

Given the lack of alternative media for Mario franchise outside the video games via an anime movie, a live action film, an animated film and a few animated series based on the video games it does appear to be the fact that in a way sonic does have Mario beat in terms of animated shows and a better live action movie representation.

Sega should release a NEW system with a Very ramped up and unique Sonic game. I think they could do it! They should also releases old Saturn game collections revamped for a new system and make games for the older Sega Genesis as it has its own unique graphic style and sound.
Do you know how expensive that would be? There would be a lot of resources needed, what will happen with their 3rd party presence?, and other stuff that wouldn't make it easy.
The most they can do are plug and play mini systems in house or licensed off.

The thought, working with OPs comment. What if steam and Sega teamed up to bring a new steam console. One that has an expansion port. This expansion port would be used to plug in expansions for each of segas old systems. Example an hardware expansion that let you plug in genesis carts. Along with the controllers. They could work with steam to have a special space in their market just for this new console. In that space they would have a space to put new titles developed for the system specifically, as well as the complete game library of the classics but slightly polished graphics. ( maybe even tie the classics with hardware expansion for the sales)
Anyways like I said this isn't going to happen but it would be feasible to break into the market like this.

@@pacsonic9000 sure theirs also clone segas amd emulation. It was just a fun thought that could be reality . Consoles wanting to stay alive need to serve a niche. In the future cloud gaming will be the standard. Hardware won't be relevant anymore other then to bring back games that you can't cloud game yet.
@@billweirdo9657 I wouldn't say that will be true. There will still be people who would still like to download a game onto a system and/or own a physical copy as well as a console/pc to play it on. Cloud gaming won't be the future and people would still want new hundred dollar game consoles.

I grew up with Sega, but Mario is leaps and bounds beyond Sonic, far more consistent experience - taking the latest example, Mario Wonder is far beyond Superstars, not even in the same ballpark.
Agreed. Even the DLC to Frontiers gets didn't help much because of how controversial it was. So needless to say, Sonic has an long, long, long way to go if he wanted to surpass Mario.

There was a rumor that said sega wanted a mario and sonic crossover adventure game but Nintendo shot down the idea for Olympics instead.
Don't forget the Archie comic's Sonic comicbook series that added so much depth to the characters to the locations to the events in the Sonic universe.
If Akuma can cross over into Tekken lore then somehow Eggman can end up in the Mushroom Kingdom to team up with Bowser and have Sonic and Mario team up!
As a 90s kid, sonic was never more popular or bigger than Mario. It’s all opinion of course but my memory is very different than yours.
But I would say at around the release of Sonic 2 he was as popular as Mario in the UK and US for a short time, at least, in the sense that everyone knew sonic and Mario.
They both had tv series and comics and toys. Sonic had two cartoons at the same time, but then Mario also had 2 longer running series (Mario brothers and than super Mario’s bros 3 cartoons). Mario had huge amounts of toys and a movie (a bad one) was made but Sonic didn’t even have any movie made. There were plenty of Mario attractions too.
The Genesis/mega drive sold extremely well but it released couple of years before the SNES so that’s no surprise. However, what you fail to say is that The SNES went from strength to strength and outsold the genesis in overall sales. It overtook it by a lot eventually.
The rivalry was fierce, but unfortunately Sonic sunk fast due to poor quality releases. Sonic came close but was never bigger than Mario that’s for sure.
They were about the same really and you couldn’t make an objective argument that one was more popular than the other but for Nintendo and Sega fanboys it probably seemed different.
Sega had 60% of the marketing share compared to Nintendo 40% share I'm an early 80s kid sonic alone put Sega there taking on the hold Nintendo I remember that loud and clear at the time Sega wasn't targeting Japan license they was targeting Usa and Europe Nintendo was never all that strong in Europe the Japanese didn't know who sonic was until the end of the Sega Saturn that why sonic adventures at the time was the bestselling sonic game in Japan do to quality and inconsistent sonic wasn't popular in Jp but frontier is Japanese wants quality plain and simple Sega put themself out of console business their they own enemy

Side story reading comments here about Ninendo/Sega and Mario/Sonic. I still find myself playing Tecmo Super Bowl, NHL 94, Street Fighter 2 some 30 plus years later. I don't know what magic they put in those games but it's 2023 and I got the NES hooked up playing Tecmo. I hope a game that comes out today will do that for a kid now in 30 years. As a gamer for a long time I just don't see it. Just a different world but hopefully.

Frankly in the past Nintendo and under Miyamoto specifically, always nailed good gameplay. That being said some of the most exemplary games I ever played were under Sega with presentation AND gameplay. Sega made fantastic Arthouse games that pushed the industry forward, they weren't intentional Arthouse and pretentious like Team Ico's games but they were Arthouse.
the 3 sonic advance games, then the 3 rush games. yes. colors on the ds is actually sonic rush 3. dimps knows verry well how those systems work. they ported even super street fighter 4 on the 3ds.

I purchased the game for my Xbox One Slim and the Xbox all of a sudden just stopped working and doesn’t turn on. Not because of the game.
The travesty with SEGA is that they could've likely still had a horse in the console race if it wasn't for (mainly the jp side of the company) lousing everything up.
They managed to force their way into the market and gain a strong foothold and set Nintendo on a downward path that they didn't recuperate from until the Wii (granted Nintendo nintendoed themselves every chance they got.)

@@knowledgeseeker4116 Bad idea. If Nintendo does buy Sonic, than there won't be enough room for other platformer series that needs to be focus more. Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Wario Land, Yoshi, etc. That & Nintendo will never agree to it and they don't get along with Sega that well either way, despite Sonic being on multiplatforming console. If any company would buy Sonic, it's definitely Microsoft. Maybe Sony. But they also have to deal with Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter.
I was super hyped for AEW Fight Forever and downloaded it the day it launched. Played it for around 10hrs and felt I got all that I could out of it. I haven't picked it up since, not even for Stadium Stampede. I might check out Season 2 depending on what's included.

Huge SEGA fanboy here, but I’m honest enough to say that if SEGA wants to dish out some big talk like this, they need to release a new Consol. Put up or shut up, SEGA.
I'm still addicted to Fire Pro World. Nothing has even come close. The customization alone in the game has never been touched.
I might pick up AEWFF on a sale. I’d love to see some positive improvements and keeping it alive forever. For Sonic, I would love to see him surpass Mario. I don’t know if it’s possible, because Mario just has a bigger payroll behind him. Sonic actually had a personality. I think Nintendo is going to make Mario have more of a personality via the movies, but we’ll see what they do. I’m tired of Nintendo’s treatment of their fans. I would love SEGA to become more prominent and approach things from a different viewpoint and with a different attitude.
Here is my hot take sonic adventure. 2 is better than every 3d mario except maybe Odyssey. Also, the Sonic movie was better than the mario movie atleast for adults.

Sega calling out Nintendo is massively hilarious. They're never going to catch up to Nintendo. Nintendo consistently develops & releases masterpiece games whereas Sega has always been hugely inconsistent. Sega's biggest successes these days has nothing to do with Sonic but with Yakuza, Persona & Total War. Yakuza, Persona & Total War are the reason why Sega is still relevant today, nothing to do with Sonic whose been in way too many mediocre games than I can count.
Who needs the aew game when No Mercy is out there. I too still regularly play No Mercy on my N64 to this very day RGT.

@@GAMM_SAGE Persona is Sega's biggest seller right now. Persona 4 & especially Persona 5 were gamechangers for Sega. Sonic hasn't been a gamechanger post-Genesis.

I've recently started playing FF again. The gameplay is too fun to stop. Regardless of the of content. I'm all about fun factor, but I'm extremely excited they're keeping the promise of updates over time. I'm old school. So I play games based on how fun they are. A lot of content can be a plus, but nowadays, the content is more of a draw, and the gameplay is very mediocre.
