@mooremore5502 thats not the point, the point is u can get 2k for 70 bucks and it has wayyyyyyyy more content/roster/graphics. So your a sucker to pay 70 for a game that has nothing in it. It has nothing to do with being poor and everything to do with paying full price for half a game

All Stars was the GOAT of arcade wrestling.......2K battlegrounds paled in comparison due to limited move sets. Defo going to pick up AEW at some point.
Love the review. Im holding out hopes for the game to get better especially cause Kenny did say in an interview that the game is going to get updates and such down the line instead of doing a yearly or bi yearly release schedule

DOR and SVR was the "silver age" of wrestling games. Though people often like to compare SVR 07 and 06 to the Smackdown and AKI games.

My excitement has waned for this game now but like you mentioned; when you come out the gate comparing yourself to No Mercy you have to back it up LOL. Very much appreciate the way you delivered the review here. I agree with a lot of your comments but have confidence that they’ll get this closer to where it needs to be for some people like yourselves that want more. I’m enjoying a lot, I’ve put in about 24 hours across Steam and PS5. A lot of that has been in online. Gameplay is nearly there, a few more match types, match rules editing and alt attires and I’d be even happier. My personal score would probably be at a 7/10.

I really looked forward to your opinions and I agree with a lot of your thoughts. One thing that I feel a lot of people overlook when comparing fight forever to the great games of wwe is how established they were when those games came out. How many smackdown games did we get before HCTP? How many AKI games did we get before No Mercy? Or even, how many 2k games have we had to get to 2k23? That’s a lot of building blocks to get to a great final product. Expecting a grand slam on your first time up to bat can be a lot, sometimes it’s just about getting on the bases. i'd argue with the targeting switching issue, I think its more of a "console" thing because you have to press down on the Left Stick to do so, while in PC switching to targets on Accident, never happens, unless someone hits you. But I do agree there must be a much clearer indication on who your targeting too, in the SVR games, itll show an arrow on who your targeting, from above their heads, and not on their feet. Wouldn't hurt to also give each wrestler a color indicator.

I'm a Royal Rumble on SNES, WWF Superstars/Wrestlefest guy, who played WCW World Tour and Revenge to death. I was sitting on the fence with this, got it on my wishlist, and was so close to pulling the trigger on launch day.
This review was exactly what I was looking for. Spoken like a true OG. Thank you. I'll wait for the inevitable sale.
It probably would be best to wait for a sale. I have the game and I enjoy it however there isn't much to do but it's supposed to have updates and from what I can tell from the DLC it might be monthly, they just announced Stadium Stampede yesterday so hopefully in like 2 months from now there should be a lot more to do

A new match type is coming.. I have high hopes for that and also the fact that they're working on updates and patches makes me feel good about the game. Also for the dialogues and gym and having dinner on Road to Elite, I think it's a Kenny Omega feaure it feels very "Yakuza Type feature to me" and as a Yakuza fan I don't mind.

For a first outing built from the ground up, this is a pretty freaking decent game you can have a lot of fun with. It’ll get a sequel and follow up, how could it not. AEW isn’t going any where.
Again, for the first one, how can you not love what you’re seeing. Looking forward to future follow ups.

They aren’t giving a sequel. They are going to continue to work on this game and the engine as opposed to dropping yearly titles. According to the Devs. Which means the game will be constantly updated added to.

From what you are saying, if this sells well a sequel would be bad ass. I love the way No Mercy plays (I thought PS2 era onward the gameplay felt too fast if that makes sense) and this really looks like No Mercy. If they could up the presentation, polish what they already got going, part 2 would be amazing. Also I hate the idea of AI in general, but I just had a thought that if AI got really good, having an AI commentator, or AI storylines/wrestler promos would be a really cool implemention of the tech.
You should look closer because this game moves at a significantly faster pace than No Mercy, and I don't mean the framerate, the gameplay is very sped up.

I agree. Play a modded version of No Mercy with an emulator on PC and wait for this one to drop in price by 50%.

I'm looking forward to playing this game. According to Kenny Omega they're going to be adding more to this game as time rolls on. Stadium Stampede mode (trailer on that dropped today) looks ridiculously fun. I'll pick this up when it drops a few bucks. I'm a cheap date and a cheap gamer. 🍻 🍕 🎮

I've played all the games from that era and HCTP is probably my favorite as well, having Scott Steiner on the roster just kicks ass, dudes moveset is spectacular to say the least.
@@Travybear1989 True. With Steiner you have at least a 50 percent chance at winning, plus another 50 percent because your opponent knows he can't win and therefore won't even try... 😂
I agree with your review I really do but it's worth keeping in mind that this game will get tons of updates and they aren't doing a yearly release cycle like 2K. So they have plenty of time to transform this game into a force to be reckoned with. Couch co op online isn't an option at the moment it seems the optimal way to play this game is with company over. They will obviously add more game modes and wrestlers to the rosters.

we dont judge a game on what they will release a year from now, judge it by what they gave you when you paid your money for it. only gamers try to give a game leeway cause what the game could possibly be.
@mooremore5502 70 dollars isnt much? people are more cash strapped and they are far more conscious about overpaying for mediocre content, and do you know how many tanked games promised steady content only to backtrack and abandon the game by the end of the year? stop being an aew mark, the game wasn't very good at all
@mooremore5502 no need to bring tribalism into a game review. The game has been considered disappointing by almost everyone outside of the hardcore AEW fanbase (that the game appeals to anyway). If you enjoy it and think it's the best wrestling game of all time, then good for you. But the flaws are there for everyone to see.
@mooremore5502 swing and a miss! i have not bought a 2k game since 2k16, have not watched a full episode of raw or smackdown in over 15 years, i bought aew day one, and have been to 7 aew events....you exposed the butt hurt fanboy in this convo and its not me.
I've played all of the WCW/ WWE/ WWF/ ECW/ TNA/ etc etc as well.
I would say Shut Your Mouth is my favorite Here Comes The Pain is a close favorite. No Mercy & Revenge of course.
It's a solid 2.5/ 3 out of 5 from me.
It's annoying. The controls are fun but clunky at times. I still don't know how to do everything. Targeting is terrible.
Wait until it's on sale to buy it. It feels unfinished.

AEW and Yukes just teased Stadium Stampede, which was actually beyond what many expected of the mode, with positive feedback. I’m hoping with cautious optimism that AEW Fight Forever becomes a more fully defined game feature wise.
Improve game mechanics, add match type varieties, improved creation suite = A great game for me.

I own it for all 3 consoles (Switch, XBOX ONE, & PS4), on physical! The first one I tried was the PS4 version, and it kept crashing right before the match start. I researched and found out you had to disconnect the network, then it worked fine! Had no issues with Switch, and XBOX ONE versions!

a week into it and i've been loving it. The tag matches could be quite infuriating, especially due to targeting issue but that's not a dealbreaker for me. It's been really fun on Elite difficulty, otherwise it's way too easy and matches aren't as entertaining.

So I found your channel. I feel like you gave a solid fair look at this game. As someone who lived and died by the old N64 wrestling titles. I really like the gameplay of this game. It's a nice reminder of those older games. That being said having played for more tthan a week and took the time to experience all the game modes. I think your score is spot on. I have to say the most nonsensical aspect of this game is the the lack of just basic things that games of this type have. The CAW is pretty terrible. This is really inexcusable. You can't even scroll names by letter, you just have to scroll all the way down which takes forever. Selecting moves for CAW works this way too. It's just plain dumb. The old N64 WWF games let you at least use the wrestling gear of characters in the game to make your character. That isn't even an option. Hell you can't even change the color of the wrestler's gear in the game. You can't choose if you want count outs but want DQs in your matches. These are just such painfully basic game stuff and they just didn't bother giving the player that option. Laughably they give you money constantly for everything you do and plenty of it and there is barely anything to buy. What's even the point? People want to defend the game as a first effort, but Yuke's helped produce WWE 2k19. They really should have known better than to not put these basic things in the game. I could go on but what's the point, I'm not going to put in the effort when Yuke's didn't. Everyone should just wait for it to be like $20 and I doubt they'll have to wait a long time.

few things, this game isn't a yearly release, this game is gonna be supported for a few years, they chose to add things in seasons, like more wrestlers, more customization, match types and modes, some match types are already playable in road to elite, like handicap matches 2v1, 3v1, multi person ladder matches, don't know why they aren't selectable in exhibition yet but season 1 ends in august, The game is fun, but AEW didn't do a good job explaining to people that weren't following the game development heavily the road map for the game, for instance, today AEW showed off the Stadium Stampede match coming to the game, which is a 30 person online or offline BR type mode, but most people don't know that is even a thing.

you said in your vid nobody brought this up but you did the targeting system am I right in saying it works on a spaceial aware target system I could be wrong but sometimes it seems like it will lock on to nearest to you not the actual charachter with no health your about to eliminate your dead right because if your playing any game with more than 2 people on screen you need a targeting system and as you said it needs to be addressed and not only that but it's a bit of a concern that a company like yukes who have a plethora of wresting knowledge under there belt would overlook this, but guess what you didn't and alot of others playin the game might only be coping on to it now, but you got it out on your channel to be addressed, fair play to you for saying it, This is the first time I've seen your channel and your reviews but I'll be subscribing because the little things are what make big things worth knowing about. There is a targeting system it just needs some refinement! People say you can fix it in the options menu! 🍻

There's no auto targeting, ur pressing in the left analog stick or "L3", that's how u manually target, push in L3
I know L3 changes it but I assure you my view changes in the Casino Battle Royal with no inputs from me.

Thanks for the review! That price point is a real roadblock for me. No way was I spending that much money on an untested franchise. I was a HUGE fan of WCW/nWo Revenge back in the day, so I would probably really enjoy this. BUT... not at that price. I'll wait until it goes down or gets a Steam discount at some point.

I've Had my copy for 24 hours I don't even need a week to fully agree with you I do feel it should be 40 or 50 bucks the content doesn't match the price tag I'm gonna make some fun with it glad we have another wrestling game other than WWE 2K and rooting for AEW to do more and better things down the road this just is fun but really bare bones they didn't even give us a freakin steel cage step it up Yukes.

The gameplay is fantastic, however there’s a notable lack of meat on the bones here.
We need more added than just a wrestling version of Fortnite to keep myself and others playing this game, the game is missing basic match types like cage and there isn’t a universe or GM mode either.
Exhibition & too many playthroughs of getting the same storylines in RtE are only gonna get you so far.
This game should have been $40 as opposed to $60, the money’s not the issue game just isn’t worth the full asking price if you ask me.

I bought but took the game back, (unopened), after seeing reviews of what the game actually has. The creation suite is my first goto with these games, (I create my in-laws, with their custom belts, move sets), and this games creation suite is worse than an older rushed PS3 game. The game modes are very limited, (no cage, tables, backstage matches). The main thing is I cant see this game taking me away from wwe2k23, or any of the older wwe games either.
Just not enough to invest the time in it.

Great review. By me not being a fan of modern wrestling WWE and AEW, I find it hard to get this game unless it was 10 dollars. WWE's 2K16 to 2K19 was the last time I had some idea of the roster, but I mostly played those for the robust CAW system and the legends.
Their mistake was setting the bar too high by mentioning golden era of wrestling games. Even then, 2K19 was really good and Yukes gave nods to modding on PC version. AEW's advantage at the time of announcement was the drought of wrestling games and given how poor 2K20 was. So that was nearly 3 years without a proper wrestling game. Then...2K released 2K22 which was well received and often compared to 2K19, 2K14, SVR '06, SVR '07 and SVR '11. AEW's game just had poor timing and they themselves set the bar too high.

I'm from your generation and I enjoy the game. Yeah there could be some improvements I hope they make but overall I am having fun. My buddy has a young son and it's easy enough for them to play together he said.

I was thinking about getting it for the Switch but if it's that bad on it I guess I'll get it for the PlayStation. I figured since it was trying to capture that WWF No Mercy magic I was going to get it on a Nintendo console. Haven't bought a wrestling game for the Nintendo since the GameCube days. But I will definitely be waiting for a price drop and the fact that you're saying there's a problem with the whole changing your focus on different wrestlers to fight while in a battle royal is definitely irritating and annoying.

I don’t agree with every thing, but I love this review. This game needs to be criticised, so that it can get better. It has the potential. I am loving the gameplay It gives me “here comes the pain” vibes, But we need more content , and the fact it’s inspired by no mercy, and we barely have any content on the launch is not a good thing, and I am a firm believer that we should review things the way they are at launch rather than saying they will add more content later on.
I’m not saying I don’t trust them, but the price they are asking is way too much for what we got at launch. And I don’t know about others, but this is the true arcade experience for me. Every character is unique and has different skills, So if you are at AEW fan you should get the game, and if you’re casual Pro wrestling fan just wait till they add new cool things especially the new upcoming battle royale map.

The Problem this game has comes down to how they've chosen to Release it: The Game is alright, but *has some major flaws like you described in your Video;* the Reason for its relatively lacklustre appearance is because _THQ Nordic and Yukes_ were planning on building *on top of this Base Engine* with both *Free Updates and Season Pass-Based DLC;* This would gradually build up the Roster, with _Extra Characters, Moves and Attires, along with more Arenas, Modes and Miscellaneous Content;_ said Content would be delivered *consistently over Multiple Years,* like the only _other_ Games with this Business Model, *DragonBall Xenoverse 2* and *Fortnite...*
At the Beginning of its lifespan, _games with this Business Model_ are arguably less featured than _other Games of their Genre_ - with Time, those features *build up* to put the game *ahead of its Competitors.* If it can _Survive on its own Merits_ until then, the Business Model works Great - but for *AEW Fight Forever,* this may be harder than usual...
When *Fortnite's Victory Royale Mode* first came out, it's Gameplay and Features _already rivalled_ it's only Competition, *PlayerUnknown's BattleGround.
DragonBall Xenoverse 2* already had a dedicated Fanbase _from the First Game,_ as well as *not having any Direct Competition.
AEW Fight Forever* doesn't have _the Luxuries of XV2,_ and doesn't provide enough _to rival WWE 2K23 in Features on Launch_ like *Fortnite did with PUBG* - then you have _the Hyper-Defensive Financial Powerhouse in Vince McMahon_ out to *Shut AEW Down.* This, combined with the general demeanour of *Wrestling Game Fans created by the WWE Game Franchise* being _petty, fickle and obsessed with Graphics over Gameplay,_ make keeping this game's Service running until *it becomes Worth it's Retail Price* a phenomenal challenge indeed!
I'm *not saying* this game is Bad, _nor_ am I saying you shouldn't Buy it - if you want *2K Games* to get their act together, then *you SHOULD* Buy the Game!
But Buying this Game comes with _the Requirement_ that you are _Patient enough_ to let *THQ Nordic* work on getting *New and Updated Content out within a respectable Time Frame* - if they can't satisfy Players up to _its larger DLC launches,_ they'll lose their Player Base *before* they can Take Off...

I feel like all this game really needs is a tornado tag and let me play tornado tag online with my buddies in ranked matches and I’ll literally be in heaven because that tag in sh#t is not doing it for me but on a positive note the stadium stampede battle Royale mode is coming soon.

The price is the biggest issue for me. The game should have been priced at $29.99-$39.99. This is coming from a guy whose only recent wrestling purchase was WWE2k17 when I got it on sale for under $20 on Steam.
I just can't stand blowing $60 on ANY game when I can barely afford groceries/gas/biils/my house payment these days. I feel that if the game was $40 they'd make more off of it due to less people being on the fence about purchasing it.
The story mode and lack of match types are also troubling to me. I read that there is a complete lack of cage matches for instance which is ridiculous for a modern wrestling game as they are one of the most fun and engaging match types.
I also expected a decent story mode akin to something like SYM or HCTP but it doesn't even come close. How difficult is it to have 10 or-so branching paths over a 365 day campaign? I mean, just give us a single choice a month that can pan out 2 different ways whether you agree or disagree to do something!
It sucks how you have to plug in your PS2/N64 for a decent wrestling game experience these days. Thinking about getting a PS2 controller adapter for my PC so I can jut emulate them and play on that (mainly due to mods).
I am still looking forward to getting this game when there is a decent sale. Still, around $100+ for the full experience (including packs) I just can't see myself bothering. I'm a big fan of AEW but they missed the mark on this one, paying for additional wrestlers separately despite them being on the roster is basically thievery.
Lots of great points! Yeah most our time playing wrestling games is no mercy wrestlemania 2000 and smackdown hear comes the pain! Dont think those games will ever be surpassed! They are going to upgrade the game going forward so hopefully they add good stuff! 🍻

I just bought this Game on sale for 40 Bucks and I Refunded it. it's Okay but the way it's going I think it's going to be real Cheap eventually and I will pick it back up again when it is.
The Prices of the DLC are insane for the small amount of Content that's actually in the DLC. like Season Pass 2 is like 2 Arenas and one Tag Team for 25 Bucks.
if you have an OG Xbox and you haven't played the Def Jam Wrestling Games you really Should. it doesn't seem like A Rap Label and Wrestling would work but it Does. especially Fight for NY that game is really Good.

I don't mind the cut scene persay, but I feel like that what should have been the minigames or something like if you go to workout you have a physical minigame and if you kick ass you have extra energy or something. But the fact that 99% of the cutscenes are generic and repetitive is annoying esp when they could have use the graphics to do something else

Great review, bravo! This game is an unfinished mess, particularly due to the terrible AI/terrible pin system and the lack of match types. No cage matches, no backstage areas, no 3 vs 3 trios, no multiple men ladder matches, no crowd fighting, no guest referee, only 4 wrestlers in the ring at once.....anyone saying that this is a great game worth $70 are out of their mind, sorry. Hopefully we'll get plenty of updates, but what a mess it is right now.

and also a few things i hope this game does is to get more arena updates on the creation put ring of honor stuff in it since they own it and do get full entrances in my opinion a wrestling match is not completed with out it like can you imagine wrestling not have cool full entrances like hbk's at wrestlemania 12 and 25 or stone cold's at wrestlemania 13 or undertaker

I was a huge fan of WCW/nWo Revenge, WrestleMania 2000, No Mercy, Def Jam Vendetta, and Here Comes the Pain so if AEW can find a happy median between those in terms of gameplay and modes, I'll be an happy customer!

Yeah definitely needs more of a snappier focus aiming, the amount of times you are standing right by someone pinned but the time it takes to focus your aim on the pinned people to break it up is way too sluggish.
Where I think they could have added an extra level of interest is the training in road to elite. Anyone remember Ready to Rumble Boxing? they had these kind of mini games for different workouts or you had the option to take supplements if you didn't want to play the mini game. Just pressing the button to complete is really boring. They already have mini games, why not implement them in a way that makes sense to the game?
Also the same music plays on the road to elite home screen every time which again gets tiring quickly, they let you set your own music playlist for the game, why doesn't it apply here also.
The create a character needs a lot more variation, it's strange because there is a lot of choice with things like your wrestler's intro music but barely any when it comes to faces, hairstyles etc. which is kind of more important to most.
Then finally, unlockables, like what are we grinding to get? there's not really much there where you are like yeah I really want to grind to unlock this, I've played road to elite 3 times through and I can unlock everything in the game shop, most people will do that in a day or two.
Having said all this it does scratch the itch I've had for one of these style wrestling games, but I'm kind of worried that they are holding back content, such a create a character faces and hair etc. as paid unlockables at a later date.

I really disagree. Its very much a merger of AKI classics and HCTP. The detail is unrivalled when it comes to characters feeling unique and simply things like weapon finishers, removing gloves/knee pads, wrestler sound bites in submissions or with taunts. The interaction around the ring and arena. There are LOTS of things to discover. Plus the buffs and skills. Its easy to play and hard to master.
Where I do agree is the targeting. Its my #1 complaint and it needs fixed/rehauled.
For a new game and new engine they have done a tremendous job. Its going to be updated. More matches, characters and modes.
I would rate it 7/10. It needs more modes and more RTE storylines.

I really enjoyed the wrestling games on the 64. My all-time favorite wrestling game is WWF Wrestlemania The Arcade Game. I think the Sega version is a bit better than the Super Nintendo version. But that could also be the nostalgia factor.

Game needs a lot. I’m gonna be starting my own G1 round robin tournament for the AEW world title and I’m pretty disappointed that the roster is so small. The tag team division is even smaller and the women’s roster, good lord. $60 for half a game. I might just do AEW “universe mode” in WWE 2k23…

Here’s the thing we live in an era where a lot of people are fixated too much on high end 4k graphics and i think some may not be impressed with this. Now for me I don’t really care for AEW. But I do hope the game does sell. Might not sell better than 2k23 or whatever 2k game comes next. I hope it finds a niche audience that enjoys it

nah this game is actually fun, this is what us wrestling fans have been waiting for, for a loooooong time, i really love how arcady, and how u can skateboard around with big show, gameplay wise is great you’re right on that, and it does need a lot of fixes for example the pin system and hit detection and such other bugs, overall we don’t need them to make another game for them to make this game better, as long as they keep running updates and MAKE IT better and also add cross platform it has the potential to be an amazing wrestling game personally for me way better than shitty 2k

Digging the solo content, I would love a part 2 review when Robert gets his hands on the game. That being said, this definitely seems to be a game I grab when it hits $30 or below.

I hope everyone likes the Stadium Stampede mode because that's where a good amount of resources went. As for the core game, I think they should've doubled down on trying to copy the AKI formula in terms of gameplay and refine it. They did it for the most part, but add/changes certain things enough that make the entire thing feel like a fighting game with extra steps, rather than an emergent wrestling brawl, where dudes are getting concussed and whatnot.
The signature rework is just bad imo. They shouldn't never made them a "pre-finisher" move that you can just do over and over, and not even require correct positioning.
I'm not too worried about modes or CAS items, I think they already have a lot of that done, or worked on and they'll add it all in the future, but yes, the for price the game is hella lacking in content. If the game was like 30 bucks, I wouldn't be complaining about that.

There were so many missed things. No announcing during the matches. Very bruff entrances, I still can't win a tag match because they allow the other player into the ring. I can't perform the awesome moves that AEW is known for because you can beat a wrestler in 5 minutes. I agree this game needed to stay delayed.

The biggest detriment to this game and its reviews is it is constantly compared to sequels of popular games. I don't think its fair to hold it to No Mercy or Day of Reckoning or Here Comes the Pain. Those were often the 3rd, 4th, or 5th games for those consoles. This is AEW's first game and its on all platforms. Yes, its inspired both those games, and yes, it was created by some of the team behind those said classic games but you gotta give it time. Its very impressive as a first game from AEW.
