  • 2006 vw gti 2.0l turbo, customer concern is a check engine light, no apparent drivability concerns or complaints, p2293 fuel psi reg performance (lower limit reached) fault stored, although the fault stored states that it is intermittent, it is a very common issue on this engine for the cam follower to wear (due to low oil level or lack of maintenance) and cause the high pressure fuel pump shaft to wear into the camshaft lobe that drives the pump which in turn will cause a lowfuel pressure issue under certain conditions (under load), this video shows an easy way to check fuel pressures using a scantool (mvbs 103 and 106), and (N276) fuel pressure regulator control using a low amp probe. you must be safe and careful when dealing with GDI systems, high amperage, voltage and fuel pressures safety glasses are a must! hope you enjoy.

    If you guys ever get this code and it's not the hpfp and cam combo.....try the sensor on the rail if that's not it. The sensor on the hpfp is going to be the culprit.

    Hi,
    Great video. Thanks.
    My golf 1.4 tsi twincharged was running fine, just had water pump leak, so replaced water pump and also did the full service including spark plugs, engine oil, filters, dsg service, drive /serpentine belts and pulley changed. When I start the car, it started idling rough, no power at all, when press acceleration nothing happens instantly, then very slowly it speed up. Check the spark plug, which has done 1 mile hardly, they were black. All 4 got black. Few codes came up too, initially it was p000A , when I changed camshaft sensor it disappear and 2 other codes came on, p3008 and p0341. Then I put the old sensor back, then only p3008 remained. I replaced coolant temp sensor, thrust sensor, camshaft adjuster valve, put new spark plugs, but changed fuel filter. And also double each & every part for compatibility, bought from main dealer. After starting new spark plugs, I started and it was sane. I again check all plugs, they were all slightly black carbon on them, all 4 were in same condition. No oil, just black carbon. I was thinking may be I left any vacuum pipe back in? But if it was vacuum leak then it’s lean Condition and the spark plugs shouldn’t be getting black carbon on their tips. More fuel coming in as compare to air, that’s why I changed coolant sensor,
    Can faulty high pressure pump cause this condition, rough idling, misfiring (if look at exhaust), spark plug getting black with in few minutes of idling.
    Also can these symptoms caused by over filling of dsg oil? I put back same amount of oil (4.8 litres)which was flushed out ?
    Please help

    Hi! Thx for the video! I have a 4.2 FSi 2007 and sometimes I get EPC errors. Mostly it is P2293 und rarely P0088 (pressure too high) too. Both pressure sensors in the rail are already replaced. If the EPC light is on, I hear squeak noises from the HPFP's. The engine runs normally without misfires. What du you think?

    Hi, my 2007 audi a4 was having boost issues. I cleaned the blocked catalytic converter. Car has good power now. But now it's intermittently loses power and give me the P0089, P2293 and P0171. Could it be the lpfp/hpfp? Perhaps because of the clogged catalytic converter before the fuel pump wasn't required to deliver much fuel. Now that the car has good boost the pump needs to work harder and just can't keep up? Can this be a possibility? None of these codes showed up prior to cleaning the catalytic converter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    My EPC and check engine light came on. The power of the engine has greatly decreased when accelerating. It also takes longer to crank the engine. The engine code i got was P2293 and P0087 Fuel Rail/ too low. Does this sound like a bad sensor or a bad fuel pump?

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

      Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. Check low and high side pressure. Most likely a high pressure fuel pump failure. But you need to cover all the bases first

      Low side should be around 4-5bar. High side should be 40-50 bar at idle. You can use a gauge on the low side but not on the high. Unless it's a digital gauge. There are data pids for the low and high side through the scantool

    Old video but these problems really never go away. I've been chasing a fuel issue for a month or so now. Changed both sensors, fuel filter, carbon cleaned, spark plugs, cam follower. Idle pressure is good, sitting at 700ish psi. High pressure side gets up to 1400-1600psi then drops all the way to 50psi and almost fluxautes there. My cam is also in good shape. Not sure where to go after this. Nobody really posts their solutions after so im stuck reading unfinished threads all day. Anyone have any ideas?

      Any luck? Dealing with the same issue 2.0 fsi just threw the p2293 code for the first time after having power cutting issues under load, and a creeping idle rpm.. My cam follower looked fine and I replaced it anyways. Ordered a new pcv valve and will be installing this weak... If this pcv valve does nothing my next step was to look for vacuum leaks..

      It could be that the timing belt is off. Or the timing chain that holds the cams in time to each other could be off too. Or it could be two separate problems. Time to do some testing.

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 років тому

      The fuel pressure regulator is a part of the high pressure pump. What fault did you have? I would verify pressures first. But the only way to verify the high side is with a special gauge. So if you don't have that gauge you can't verify the high side
