Really? Bacon and green onions not adding flavor? Of course they do...both enhance....to each there own but you can't go wrong with adding one or both ..I've tried this casserole several different ways...trust me - bacon and green onion take this from everyday to sublime.

I've even tried tator tots and it turned out good but you'll need a bigger pan since they take up more room. I use 1 can cream of onion and 1 can cream of celery. I've never added the butter. Next time I'll add the green onions because I'm sure that adds another great level.

michael, I have a recipe you should try...
    Sausage and Rice casserole
    1lb pork sausage
    1cup cooked white rice
    1medium onion (chopped)
    1medium bell pepper chopped, (opional)
    1can cream of mushroom soup
    1can cream of chicken soup
    1c. shredded cheddar cheese
brown sausage, drain and set aside. reserve 1T. of the grease and leave in skillet to saute onions and pepper.
in a large mixing bowl add cooked sausage, cooked rice, cheese, onions, peppers and both soups. mix well and put in a casserole dish bake @350° for 25~30 minutes or until it bubble .

Do I need to cook the hash browns in a skillet before I put it in the oven, because last time I made this, i didn't cook the hash browns before I put it in the oven and when it was done, everything was well cooked except the hash browns, they were still frozen. They didn't cook at all.

This looks too good not to try, but in my neck of woods Campbell's soup is a somewhat exotic item, that costs arm and leg if found in an international isle of a supermarket - any suggestions for a substitute?
(And I guess the frozen hash browns nobody's ever heard of over here can be dealt with with a bunch of potatoes and a grate ;-)
Anyways, thanks for a great recipe.

holy moly this must be Paula Deen's private secret recipe rotfl, seriously mama-mia. I'll be honest, 3 common things I don't eat and sour cream is one of them BUT I will make this next week when I go down to the USofA to pig out at your Thanksgiving and I am sure the whole gang will love this dish. Yikes, sour cream, butter, cheese! Actually I'm not so concerned, just pulling your leg, if it's homemade it's already way better than fast food or processed crap. I make plenty of fat-filled sugary desserts lol. Have a great Thanksgiving Holiday Michael, I am thankful you are back and making videos! Kevin

I bet it's really yummy but It's super high in Calories just calculated all the ingredients and it's about 3,215 calories all together. That's 1072 calories per person if divided in 3 give or take and depending on the actual products used. I'd recommend moderation for this yummyness

You realize you can use less salt than what you see, right? I would not let it bother me.

darian roscoe I clean out the bowls carefully off camera. I do not want to make you wait and wait while I clean out every bit of food. The videos would be longer and more boring if I did it on camera.
      Thank you for watching!

+Michael's Home Cooking I agree with Mr Michael on that! No need to clean and/or show unnecessary steps when getting a point across. They're too many long videos that bore the viewer while showing the premise of the video! Great job Mr Michael!
