@@leenanorms I agree 100% if you want to spice things up, you could do some aesthethic or similar challenges, or show new outfit combinations with old pieces whenever you get a new one. Also, I'd love to see your upcycling project, big or small, even if you re-purpose something as a night dress. It might not be super innovative, but even a small idea helps shift the perspective! P.S.: and there surely not enough upcycling videos in the world that are other than "I bought this thing 4 sizes too big and now I fit it to my body"

For any clothes you can't save/mend/alter or donate, couple ideas:
1. Turn into rags if it's a fabric like cotton that you could use for cleaning
2. Use as scrap fabric to practice specific sewing skills (buttons, zippers, hems, or stitches)
3. Turn into small cosmetics or toiletries pouches. Fill them with toiletries (especially pads/tampons etc.) and donate to shelters.
4. Turn into accessories like a fabric belt or handbag or travel bag
5. Use as "cabbage" (scrap sewing fabric) for mending other garments as patches, make a mock-up, or to add pockets
6. Cut up and turn into "coleslaw" (sewing shredding scraps that are too small/practical to use for anything) to use for stuffing into things like cushions/throw pillows, or costuming pieces (like bum pads or anything like that if you ever go the historical costuming or theater costuming route)

RE: making clothing-related videos without having to buy more clothes, it could be really fun to see you do a collab video with someone where you go into each others' wardrobes and style outfits for the other person based on what is in their wardrobe. Because sometimes others see things you don't, and you're still promoting sustainable fashion!

I love recognising other peoples clothes, I love that you do it publicly because it isn’t a behaviour that is modelled at all in media. It makes me more confident in wearing my own personal repetitive uniform for when I have similar worries about being judged for wearing the same clothes all the time. I appreciate your reappearing clothes!

Also, I grow a sweet bound/link with some of my clothes and I love learning which other people's favourites clothes are.
I think that feeling confident and comfortable in some particular clothes of ours should be more shown.
I definitely have some clothing that does not currently fit but might eventually because my weight also fluctuates. I think of it as my "IF I *change* weight" drawer, not "WHEN I *lose* weight" drawer to take the pressure off my self to become smaller.

I know someone who refers to their PCOS body as 'waxing and waning', like mushrooms (they're into cottagecore 😅) - it reminds me of Ms. Frizz from the magic school bus + that kind of whimsical fun
@@leenanorms just a thought, but even if it can't be buttoned now, that dress screams trench dress/coat and I'm here for it.
This way it's more like a "clothes for when I'm smaller, clothes for when I'm larger"-situation. A bit like putting away your summer or winther clothes when the seasons change. That's quite clever!
Tip for the heart-dress! If you alter it, don’t cut off the bits you sew in, keep them on so that if you want to get that bit back later, or if you might want to give it away. It’s easier to give away if it’s not altered :)
Just to echo everyone else, I don't watch your clothing videos for new clothes, it's about the stories you weave around them and the weird-in-a-good-way combinations you come up with
Honestly I wish more people showed us the same clothes repeatedly! 1. my memory is not good enough to remember anyway 2. better for self esteem/environment/finances/everything. Also you're so entertaining no matter what you're talking about, will always watch
Same, my shitty memory will never remember it (I recognise a few items, but only from the wardrobe video) plus I actually don't pay any mind to what you're wearing when you're not talking about clothes - so please don't feel forced to have new clothes!
I love recognizing clothes from people I watch. I love seeing outfits that people feel good in, which is usually the above.
"leena core" the most leena -y outfits. What you would wear as a main character in a story. What is the most quintisential leena aesthetic.
Halfway through! I'm at the blue/red/yellow stripe dress and just wanted to say that while I agree that giving low quality things to charity shops could be problematic, I think there is also a place for this. My local charity shop has a £1 rail for low quality items and sometimes all we want is a nightie, a sleep shirt, something crappyish but pretty for lounge wear and I think that's OK. It's also a great source for cannibalising materials/others to up cycle and I think it's important to remember that it's not only poor people who shop in charity shops but people looking to be more sustainable, artists, clothesmakers and people looking for loungewear so don't beat yourself up too much about the topic! 😊
Adding to this - peoples' perspectives of quality really varies. One of my most loved charity shop finds is a tatty, pilled woolen jumper that I just can't find anything else I love more than it that looks remotely similar. I have definitely bought some items that would be generally considered low quality or damaged, and they have strangely become my most loved 😂 but for real when I first started shopping 2nd hand I really wasn't even thinking about the quality or completeness of the clothes - I would just as happily pay for a black primark tshirt as I would a 2nd hand so-called designer tshirt. I think there are a good lot of people for whom quality/wear is only one element of whether to purchase 😊

We're not bored seeing the same clothes. It's so refreshing to see someone show the same item multiple times and especially when that item clearly brings the person so much happiness and joy.

As a theatre professional, I watch shows and movies HOPING to see repeat pieces of clothing if they cover a significant period of time. I find it comforting and incredibly grounding when people have a well used and re-used wardrobe.

I find it inspiring seeing the same items repeatedly. They're your signature Leena pieces and you can see parts of your personality in each thing, it's lovely x
i like to ask myself "do I WANT to style this item" vs "can i style this item" when getting rid of clothes-it was a big mindset shift that's been soooo useful. i think i can style a lot/can be very adventurous, but the cool pieces i get rid of are almost always ones that i like but don't like enough to be proactively creative with!
I'm in my local "Buy Nothing" group -- (FB group for folks trying to cut down on consumerism/save money.) Instead of giving clothes to a secondhand or charity shop where they're honestly more likely to end up in a landfill, I give them to other people in my community, which means I sometimes get to see them out in the world. Really nice to walk to the bakery and see my old sweater on the girl behind the counter!

I love buy nothing! I have given and gotten so many things that have helped me make my rental a nice place to live (the giving has really helped with not hoarding, cause it's so hard to get rid of things when you don't know if they'll end up in landfill)

I actually like that I've seen you wear those clothes before in other videos because it makes it more realistic when I compare it to my own wardrobe. We get to see you combine your clothes in different way which is super inspiring and we can better empathize with any emotional attachment to the clothes now that you're decluttering. It's honestly quite bizarre to watch fashion youtubers declutter and get rid of like 20 jeans with zero qualms or effort because they've only worn them once for a video and they still have 40 pairs left in their closet.
As for the different color striped dress you could try going over it with a fabric shaver and see if that helps. Sometimes it's not the colors running per se but just lint from the darker colors sticking to the lighter ones and making them "muddy".
Firstly, love the explanation behind the outfit you chose to actually do the wardrobe purge - such a good idea! Never thought of that but yes, excellent strategic move.
Secondly, I love it when you rewear clothes in your videos - it’s like seeing an old friend! I hope one day to see you at a poetry/publishing/author event and it would be awesome to see you in a ‘Leena’ outfit and be like, yay the fruit dress! The Pom-Pom jumper! The sparkly circle skirt! Would deffo add the excitement.
I’d recommend a fabric shaver for getting rid of bobbles! So good for jumpers etc and gives more life to your clothes☺️

It gave me so much comfort when you tried and talked about clothes that no longer fits and having a maybe later box! Ive decided to save some of my favorites for either a day if my body changes/maybe my kids or nieces want them in a couple of years (that be so cool!!) /i could take them out and look at them when im older and remember some good times. Also its so inspiring seeing you cherish your clothes!

I just got a few old shirts my mum really liked and kept as her "maybe later". They don't fit her anymore but they do fit me now. Some are over 15 years old by now but they're well-made and still look great.
On re-seeing clothes: it actually makes me smile when UA-camrs rewear clothes, often because they're really nice, and it's fun to see how they can be styled differently. It feels more real, like you're hanging out with a mate who's wearing their favourite dress, rather than looking at a carefully created wardrobe that feed a materialistic culture and includes a number of new clothes that is not accessible to me or else unsustainable.
Yes! It somehow feels cozy, like I’ve seen enough of their videos to get an idea of what they enjoy wearing and what’s in their wardrobe.
For that pink dress with red hearts, I would recommend just putting a piece of elastic in the back. That way it will fit you better but you have room to grow. Perhaps even the kind of elastic with button holes, so you can tighten the elastic depending on what size you are at the moment :)

Ah! But UK doesn't really have a proper summer, especially up North, so most of the time in the summer it's too cold/too windy to wear just a T-shirt or a vest. So a summer jacket is a protective device ;)
i mean i live in Melbourne and always carry a jacket and usually a pair of leggings for if im still out when the sun goes down or if the wind changes direction

I recently went to a birthday party for a 3 year-old with my kids and the hostess/mum was wearing white linen pants!? The contrast with my stained overalls with snacks and crayons in the pockets was something. 🤣

i genuinely needed that moment of "i am keeping this dress becuase weight fluctuations are a thing". i had just cleaned out my closet and some of my favourite pieces no longer fit me, and instead of fully getting rid of them i put them in a vaccum sealed pouch to revisit later. i have never been straight size in my adult life, but turns out recovering from an ED and being confined to your home in a pandemic really impacts your body. so yeah, as someone who wouldhave to throw away some of the clothes that first made them feel good about their body because if potentially temporary weight changes i am heavily in favour of keeping some of the highlights and not making me feel bad about it. its better than just throwing them away and rebuying later anyways
oooh, and the piecer where the buttonhole ripped off, i had the same issue with two of my favourite button downs (fluctuyting weight says hey once again) and it is actually pretty doable to put in a piece of strong scrap fabric and attatch the buttons to that. totally worth it, saved my two favourite shirts
came here to say this! last time my weight changed, i gave away a lot of my favorite clothes that didn't fit me any longer, only to need them again in the future. the "if you haven't worn it in a year, give it away" doesn't work for my wardrobe, since my weight changes with stress, whether i'm working from home, seasons etc.

Even though my relationship to clothes is very different from yours, I still enjoy these videos greatly. I have a hard time getting rid of stuff because I actually HATE shopping for new clothes, especially when it's out of necessity. So if I can avoid any future shopping trips by holding on to things for future use, even if I don't currently wear them, I absolutely want to do that... But of course it's not the best use of that item for it to be in the posession of someone who MIGHT wear it again vs somebody who 100% WILL wear it. Difficult stuff.

I totally back the concept of keeping things you super love for body fluctuations, I do the same! I have a small suitcase that I don't use and I can only keep as many "don't fit" items as can fit in it and keep under my bed so they don't give me feelings of shame for my body not being in that place currently.
Thank you for addressing that you don't need to immediately get rid of clothing just because it's tight right now! There is a difference between accepting the natural fluctuations and thin inspiration!
Ah yes, the power suit when you're a pjamas based freelancer. I still have it because once in a while (2-3 times a year) it comes in handy. It's a nice to have for some sort of event or business meeting. But yeah, I thought of chucking it out a couple of times, but keep on keeping it, never regretting it really :).
Great idea to add pockets to your denim jacket! You'd probably have the best success with what's called a "patch pocket." There are plenty of tutorials available online and you can choose whichever style you like! Just make sure you use a sturdy material (like denim or canvas) so you don't end up with pockets that sag even when you don't have your phone in them.

The damaged leather trim, you could try putting a teatowel or thinnish piece of cotton (e.g. bed sheet) over it on the reverse and gently ironing it on a mid to low temp. Might be enough to flatten it back out
I am currently a part of a group that meets every few months to swap clothes, makeup, gossip and food ;) Highly recommend. If a piece of clothing doesn't work out, you can always bring it back, someone else takes it. And it may come back to you, if you change your mind or your body changes.
I barely buy new stuff these days. I usually think "well maybe someone will bring some black pants to the next meeting, let's wait".
We also try to find responsible ways to dispose stuff - give better stuff to charity shops, find upcycling businesses. It's a bit easier to do, if you share a mental load of researching and organizing that with a group of people.
Not once have I ever thought about you or anyone else “repeating an item of clothing” as something that makes a person boring. If anything, it just makes their ideas shine brighter in contrast.
Hello, maybe an idea… buying second hand and styling it for someone else (who needs it, perhaps sending it away later) or online browsing for fun (colorful, unusual) iteems (maybe from fun sustainable brands as a lot of them I know of are minimalistic and frankly for my taste boring) 🥰 love your videos.
I absolutely love this idea, future videos could operate with the mindset of styling for someone else either through collaboration with a friend or gumption member or through a give away reselling the outfit post production?
The striped tee shirt dress-you could dye the sleeves a darker color! Maybe use a blue to make them green? I like the idea of keeping it for a later sewing project or something
Hi Lena, maybe you could do something like “styling my friends clothes” either on yourself, or on them! As a way to experiment with clothes you don’t own, but also not have to buy things as often. You could bring your unique styling methods to help other people see their clothes differently!

The weight fluctuation thing is so important! Since I started making my own clothes a couple of years ago, I've seen a massive shift towards making clothes that are able to fluctuate with me. I only make skirts or trousers with some level of elastic, dresses that aren't tight in certain areas. That choice works for me because my personal style suits that but it's been an interesting observation none the less!
I love that you wear the same clothes in multiple videos though! It's normal, right?
Maybe we should all just create one huge wardrobe and lend out clothes that aren't the right size for us at the moment 😅
a communal lending library for clothes would definitely be preferable, roll in socialism!
I feel very inspired; the other day I salvaged my dad's old shirt and did some very visible contrast mending and I've never been more pleased with the act of learning a new skill and saving something from being shredded to make rags 😂
That linen button front dress looks stunning as a duster! Keep it and wear it even when it doesn't close! I have converted multiple shirt/wrap dresses into a housecoat or cardigan with compliments, so don't worry about keeping a nice, high quality piece that doesn't do exactly what you bought it for anymore, but works just fine as something slightly different.

Honestly, seeing the same beautiful, bold piece of clothing across multiple videos does not bore me. It provides an interesting sense of comfort. Like yes, I am watching Leena's content! She's got on her dress with fruit all over it! It's familiar; it's comforting.

I had my wardrobe cleanup when i fled the war in Ukraine and came to Poland with a suitcase and a backpack. And my parents has moved into my apartment which is safer cause it is closer to western border. And my parents have donated a lot of my clothes to people coming from eastern part of the country, because the majority of them have only the clothes on their backs.
If you want to keep making these but without accumulating more clothes, maybe you could take us on a mission ina charity shop, and try to create themed outfits based on what you can find, without having to buy everything in the end? I have no idea how feasible this is, but that would definitely be something I'd love to see!
I have exactly the same problem of not wanting to keep clothes that are now too small for me for my mental health but then I feel bad getting rid of these too small clothes that I love because of the waste aspect! So difficult and frustrating!

I fluctuate weight a lot too and have the same conundrum, so I keep *some* currently-too-tight clothes in my luggage so that it’s all there but not taking up space in my closet or attention

I personally love seeing the same items in multiple videos. It's like an Easter egg to see you casually wearing an item that I can go, "Oh, I remember when she bought/talked about that in her video about..." Also, your videos have inspired me to really make an effort and be more creative with the types and number of outfits I can create with the clothes I already own.
I think the blue dress actually looks really cool just worn open on top of your jeans and top! Like that it has a bit of a wizard cloak feel

okay I don't know if they sell these outside of the states but color catchers work like a charm for multi colored items, they can even help pull out color runs that've already set in the fabric! love all the things you make!!

I've been waiting for this for ageeeees. And fear not, as a member of your audience I am ENTERTAINED. Also low quality fabric can always be donated to rag at charity shops, it might get recycled and the shop will still get money for it.
It's much more fun to see people create lots of different outfits from a few pieces than see them buy loads of beige basics from Zara. My favourite style video ever is one by Alyssa Beltempo where she creates loads of different outfits from one midi dress. The more videos like that the better!
I think the fact you sustainably source your look books and have these discussions actually doing annual(or when ever) closet clear outs is a good thing. I love watching people do them and discussing the thought process and often gets me to look at my own wardrobe again to decide am I holding onto something that actually I don't wear and someone else would love. Maybe looking up other ways to get rid of clothes, charities like dress a girl around the world you could probably up cycling some of your unwanted items to them and do fun practice sewing videos as well. It term of worrying about wearing the same thing in videos, sometimes it's comfort as a consumer to see a familiar outfit but also think about all the people you have uniforms, my partner has to wear a bright green, polo, so you should never worry about when was the last time I wore this in a video because you'd have every right to say this is my sew outfit, this is my book review outfit and only were those things in those types of videos 😉
Recognizing your clothes in videos brings me joy. It makes you feel like more of a real person, with a wardrobe, and a body to dress. I get a lil serotonin when I click on a video and I see that jumper, or skirt that I've seen before. Like oh yeah, it's the fruit dress! Love that peice.
For the yellow/black/blue/red stripey dress you might be able to do like a stain powder removal just topically on that area before a wash and see if it brightens the yellow!! ♥️
I'd love some videos where you try out different ways to alter/upcycle clothes! Also it is not at all boring to see the same clothes over and over, it just makes the video that much more relatable ❤

about bobbling: get a lint shaver, mine has saved/prolonged the life of many an item!
i love how different our concepts of 'easy sewing' are. taking up something like a dress, to me, seems way more difficult than adding pockets, because in my mind it's easier to sew on fabric to make pockets than to evenly take up a dress or something similar
I actually really love seeing your clothes time and time again! In the same way I like noticing which clothes my friends favorite, it feels very comforting and weirdly intimate.
The way I would fix those dungarees with the ripped strap is to pick a matching or contrasting fabric and fold it over the ripped area, sandwiching the original fabric... reinforce and then reattach the strap. You've got this!

YEEES! This video made me want to go through my wardrobe and be honest about my clothes and the fact that 80% of them don't fit me anymore and probably never will! It's unreasonable for me to keep things out of emotional value if somebody else could love it! I will do it! I am also finally at a point in my life where I'm knitting a lot of my clothes and LOVING them! Time to purge the things I don't love!! 😍
I don’t watch your clothing videos for ‘shiny new’ things. I like seeing your familiar items and hearing about how you style them etc. I think having the same items for years is fantastic. I’ve recently done a huge clothing purge and am also trying to buy secondhand as much as I can (just found an amazing late 90’s new with tags vintage dress on Depop that I’m going to wear to a wedding this summer and so excited about it). Your clothing videos are always fascinating and well thought out.

I also taught myself to sew by mending and upcycling clothes, and it makes me really happy to see your progression from "I love this but it has a problem, I have to get rid of it" to "i love this and it has a problem, I can fix that!"
One thing I would advise about making that dress smaller, if possible try to leave in the extra fabric on the inside, then if you get bigger you'll be able to let it out again. Also, if you're altering anything made out of stretchy material, you'll need to use a zig zag stitch or some other stretchy stitch, straight stitches will stop it from stretching and can end up snapping.
I'm sure you'll reach your goal of making your own clothing in no time! I love being able to make entire garments from scratch, but upcycling, mending, and showing love to your old favourites also has it's own special kind of joy.
If I have clothes or anything not nice enough to donate, I cut them into strips and crochet them into rugs or baskets that I keep if I can use them or I donate them. A few ratty sweatshirts can make a beautiful rug. I'm with you on not donating ugly or worn things to charity shops, so turning them into something beautiful relieves me of the guilt.
Regarding the toxic "need to show new clothes to audience" feelings - I actually get a lot of comfort from seeing you in the pieces you enjoy and re-wear because I'm like, oh, this thing brings Leena joy, and I get to see that, and it brings me joy to. And it also helps me feel good about my re-wearing MY favourite items, though I also do the "mustn't wear this two days in a row" thing at least/feel self conscious a lot. It kind of just...normalises having a defined style you know well and having beloved items?
I'm half watching this while going though my own closet. I've moved 4 times and finally I'll be in a stable place. So now I'm finding clothes I haven't see in 3 years. Never feel bad getting rid of clothes you know that you won't ware. They are just getting in the way of the clothes you do want to ware and space for new clothes that will make you look amazing.
I honestly watch your fashion videos for your personality and don’t need to see new clothes all the time, I get that enough from the rest of the internet
Hi Leena, I just woke up and saw. This right away. My first college friend is moving on Monday and we threw him a "funeral" as a joke, and it was a lot of bitter sweet fun. Seeing this this morning reminded me I'm moving soon too and need to Clear out and prep and that it's not me being left here lol. There’s a lovely type of comfort in seeing the same clothing pieces come back around, and it’s also extremely relatable. No one should be able to wear different things every time they’re seen by other people, and seeing the same clothes is a nice reminder that the goal is to keep them out of landfills!
I love hearing your process here. Between three pregnancies, two kids, a plethora of health problems, and COVID I have fluctuated between 5 different number sizes over the past 3 years. I have an abundance of clothes- probably too many clothes, but I also have bins put away of clothing by size and season that I know will fit me in the future and I'm not throwing things out. The fashion industry makes one feel everything must fit perfectly, but I am just trying to embrace that size fluctuation is a part of the human experience- even more so for birth giving people- and not feel bad that all of my clothes don't fit me all the time. It's also really exciting to open your bins after a long time and discover all the goodies in there!
Noooo Leeennnaaa... we don't need new stuff to be entertained! I love seeing the same pieces over and over, cause it actually reassures me that you are actually doing what you preach, using the same clothes over and over and not buying so much new stuff. Also, It is more relatable to me... I love seeing people actually using and loving their clothes... the clothes participate in the story of their lives and you mature and realize why you like them and what are the pieces that make you feel your best!

I relate to the “keeping clothes that don’t fit but you like and your weight fluctuates” dilemma. Especially if you’ve had babies. I store the clothes that don’t fit away in a box and don’t keep them in my “everyday” wardrobe where I see them. I have been glad I’ve done it as my weight was all over the place, especially after my second child.

For the ‘Lucy and yak but baggier’ dungarees with the ripped button hole, replace the whole bib with contrasting fabric (from something you are getting rid of) and cut up the removed bib fabric to make a kangaroo/ patch pocket on the replaced bib. I like recognizing your clothes. I watch because I keep too many clothes and watching you clear out your closet motivates me to do the same (which I dearly need to do). Also I like hearing your thought process while making decisions

Since your last closet clear-out, I've bought many shirts and dresses from charity shops, something I had rarely done before. One shirt I bought is this royal blue long sleeve beauty that I wore every week since I bought it and I can't wait for the weather to be warmer so I can wear my two sheer dresses! I never thought I would want to wear dresses everyday, but with these, oh yeah! (I also bought a similar fabric and want to try replicating one of my dresses, maybe this summer or in the fall!)
