Also, at the end of the day it is relatively unreasonable to think that the average hunter watching this video would want to craft every single build here, even if they had all the zenny/points/parts they needed. For instance in my case, I'm not much of a fan of the rampage HBG's for elemental since all of the unique elemental HBGs beat them handily on the elemental side (it's REALLY close with Mizu for water though). Life has been going okay, just still trying to figure out my medical stuff in the nightmare that is the american healthcare system. Either way, the plan for the LBG video was to wait until at *least* the second title update to start putting together builds and plans. Depending on the estimated arrival of the third title update, I may even wait until then. All of my previous "Build a Better Hunter" videos are what you may call "evergreen" content, where they were produced at or near the end of a game's lifecycle so that players can use them as a reference for a long time. I also just can't put out videos with the same quality as my regular content every time there's a new weapon or armor combination. If you want to keep up with my thoughts on LBG builds and gameplay, definitely keep an eye on my discord server like you are doing in the "build theorycrafting" channel. We do a lot of brainstorming in there and have a good time testing stuff out. I also use the server to keep in touch with subscribers better because UA-cam's interaction options are not that great. Glad most of my subs are patient folk, because with everything else going on, there just isn't much time any more to put out content like I could a couple years ago.
@@Matadurr oh man, I'm so sorry, so sorry. I can kinda-ish relate, in that I have been diagnosed with chronic epilepsy, and because of the seizures I've just had to resign from my job. I've got 2 master's degrees, but shit can change overnight when it comes to health. Many Americans would consider this 'socialism' but it's just taking care of each other. The Government also pays for those on welfare to obtain degrees, as well as providing anyone who hires someone on welfare with a massive pay which equates to like half a year to a year of their wages, which encourages people back into employment and for businesses to take them on. Good video and guide overall wish they were all like this with more time stamps to go directly to what is important and more real examples showcasing stats and builds
the video has been in the making for a pretty long time and through some complications he sadly couldn't release it earlier and just dumping all the footage would've been a waste. but I definitely get your point
With mhr being my first ever monster hunter this video was super helpful for me! The most recent monster I fought was the big wind tornado dragon, also my friends hate me for using the felyne cannon cluster ledge cancel now lmao
Appreciate it, I mix the audio with studio headphones and my videos are best experienced with headphones if possible. I have noticed sometimes that the mixing of music/dialogue can sound different depending on if you are listening on computer speakers or phone speakers. If I use the same track for Sunbreak vids (which…I may since there’s no gathering hub in Elgado) I will lower it a decibel or two, thanks!
I don't see a master rank updated video for the HBG, which is understandable since they've announced Wilds and a guide at this point wouldn't really help. Any tips in general for HBG as someone just getting into Sunbreak?
26:37 That synchronized fire was very satisfying to watch. Also, thank you for this video; I've been playing base game Rise exclusively with the Shield & Sword, and I'm finally starting to consider expanding out to other weapons to liven up my hunts.
Thanks! A lot of the clips I was hunting with a great friend and we love syncing things up if possible. Some of the data in the video is outdated, just so you’re aware, since Capcom changed the motion values and recoil stats for ammos like sticky and slicing, making them less powerful and useful.
@@Matadurr indeed, but some of those ammo choices were notoriously over-tuned for the base game based on what I've seen from many others. On the other hand, piercing elemental ammo appears to be exceptionally potent against a number of enemies in SunBreak. A team of 4 gunners could apparently nuke an Espinas in under a minute, if I recall correctly.
The fact you took a huge time to create more than 20 different sets for pratically every type of shot the HBG offers, as well as the time you used to create every HBG to test them on monsters to verify the best options and put them in one single video with explanation and everything simply shows how hard you worked your way through the game to make every heavy bowguner's chin fall down. Every set is pretty easy to understand and knowing you can use switch skills to either prepare concentrated shots or counter death-bringing attacks is enough to prove that the HBG can face any danger!
Thanks! Yeah testing all these builds was a massive undertaking. Some performed differently solo than in group hunts, so I'm glad I had peeps helping me out from my Discord. I can't take credit for creating these builds though, many of them are edits from the established meta, re-worked sets from other sources, and contributions from members of my server too (the sleep bombing build is from Prof himself!). But putting them in the set builder and presenting everything in a readily-understandable way, yeah that was the hard part. I only wish I could have gotten this out sooner.
Just found the video, and everything is explained lovely! I myself am a Shield HBG player. Sure, l may not have as much dmg as such builds, but l'm tanky (with 1022 def atm) and can survive a lot of heavy or 1 hit k.o attacks. Not to mention, with using Royal HBG, l can use heal 1 and 2 to keep everyone alive in sticky situations! But heck, the time l did 600+ dmg with a single ice-pierce round, that was amazing!
@@Matadurr oh yea! Back in MHW it was hard for me to find my style, then l met the shield and was like "yup, that's me, a shield bish!" haha. But now with charge shots, elemental piercing AND the fact that elemental ammo deals better dmg when monster has their element up, love it! Even in the end in MHW l had the challenger mantle to draw the monster's attention to me, since l could tank all the attacks! Only problem is that you need Guard 5 so that Tune-up works : / Though yea.... got Guard Up and Guard on max + Def boost and Divine blessing, so dmg reduction is amazing haha.
Maximum might is a good way to get your affinity up since your not using stamina with the guns that and weakness exploit would get you to 80 affinity in battle. Get a weapon with that much affinity or add crit eye to get to 100 affinity
Those are options as well for sure. Though I’ve never been too much of a fan of maximum might as on the really squirrely monsters you will be dodging a lot. Maximum might 5 in Iceborne was good though since it instantly gives the affinity bonus when at full stamina. Too much of a delay on the other levels both in Iceborne and Sunbreak/Rise.
i really need to put the time in to learn this weapon only thing that keeps me away is the ammo crafting / ammo management aspect it really isn’t difficult to create custom shortcuts i’m just lazy 😭
So... I've recently gotten into Shield gunning . Currently running a Shotgunner Spread build. This makes me want to swap to a Sticky Cluster build. Especially with the new Shock Absorber skill that makes Clusters a non-issue.
Unfortunately sticky ammo was nerfed *hard* in Sunbreak, through both a recoil increase and shorter KOs. I believe the damage may have been reduced too. A build is still workable for normal quests, just keep in mind it won’t be as overpowered as it used to be before the Sunbreak update.
@@Matadurr Understandable, I'm currently using a Spread Shooter right now and having quiet a bit of fun. Clusterbomb looks interesting with Shock Absorber.
congratulations for the video friend, but I had a doubt. no second 0:35 you use a kind of shoulder that hits the theostra and knocks him down, how did you do that? I've tried all the commands and I can't use it, is it some skill? Thanks in advance, excellent video.
That move is “tackle”, and it’s a switch skill that replaces the standard melee of the HBG. It functions the same as the Great Sword’s tackle and is very useful for tanking through moves that aren’t viable to dodge through. I don’t remember exactly how to unlock it, whether it is from one of Utsushi’s weapon-specific quests or if you need to craft a certain number of unique HBGs.
Hey man I dunno if you’re still active here but I had a question. At 9:55 there’s a bomb Theon by a teammate to proc the wire bug counter? Do you know what that items called that he throws? Also the video is fucking good, props to you for your obvious hard work, it shows in the shine of this informative video.
If you do a full mogsharl set with a pukei pukei helm you can easily reach a full recoil, reload, and deviation negation, makes ANY HBG feel like a light bowgun in terms of speed
Yeah if it had better slots and secondary skills that armor would be a lot more useful. Maybe could work for a fire HBG though with the free fire attack. Could also sub out the wrists with something better like Rathalos, though it would need more slots.
Yeah it’s a valid argument, especially for stickies/Wyvern/cluster/piercing dragon/slicing. The other ammos are easy to keep stocked thankfully. Honestly I would recommend you still give HBG a shot after you set up your Argosy properly to farm crafting materials. Makes hunting with it a lot more enjoyable.
Well. It wasn’t terrible in the base game, as it could do the highest damage per sticky when set up right. But if I remember correctly, the ammo constraints and other stats just didn’t make it competitive to other options.
Hi Matadurr. I am a beginner to monster hunter rise. Would like to ask which monster should I practice to fight n order to become familiar with the controls of heavy bowgun. Wish I could be as skillful as you. I always die and feel depressed.
what armor/ layered armor are you wearing in the video? it just looks really cool and i would totally use it as a layered armor if i knew what it is :)
You can if you’re on PC! For the intro sequence it’s the full Magnamalo Amiibo armor (available on Switch or PC with mods), while the main content is the same armor but with the Wiggler head (head only available via mods on PC). Not sure why Capcom hasn’t officially brought the Wiggler head to Rise/Sunbreak. Makes no sense to me.
8 months later and I only now realized just how damn hard Capcom invalidated a fair chunk of this video with the murder of stickies... Thank god the rest of the series is on hold till TU5 where they can't slaughter anything afterwards.
Yeah to say I was heartbroken when Sunbreak was released is an understatement. Lot of work put in to those sticky builds and then *poof*, not really viable anymore.
hey im in the mid of the decision to buy the mh rise game, im in love with heavy bowgun gameplay i played in mhw iceborne.especially the bowgun with Clutchclaw gameplay feel satisfying does the mhrise bowgun movement shooter feel better than mhw as solo player ? im sold if the wire bug bowgun make crazy gameplay movement and sick play with.
There is a lot more movement opportunity in Rise and Sunbreak with the implementation of the wirebug, yes. But I will say the actual gunplay of the bowguns isn’t as visceral or engaging as World/Iceborne, mostly due to the game being a switch port (lower standard effects) and that the rate of fire is increased. It’s worth a try, honestly. Evade extender 3 is even more broken on HBG in Rise/Sunbreak than it is in World/Iceborne as well.
@@carlupiclips2567 Capcom has historically never really cared about mods, and even less so on cosmetic end-user-only mods like the magnamalo amiibo armor one. To other players it looks like you’re just wearing standard magnamalo armor, so there’s nothing to worry about.
Hey, I wanted to ask if sticky is still a viable option for hbg in base mhr. I play on PlayStation, so I don’t have sunbreak, but I’ve heard sticky got nerfed in sunbreak and the patches also affect base game.
Unfortunately no it isn’t very viable anymore since there’s no real way to counteract the increase in recoil. Had I known this change was coming I wouldn’t have included those builds, but they’re still “ok” if you are managing average recoil. The bigger issue is the damage penalty and KO time decreasing with each KO. In Sunbreak sticky/slicing builds get decent again, but nowhere near as broken as they were before the Sunbreak patch.
Waiting for sunbreak edition. I’m maining HBG in Sunbreak. Slower and maybe outclassed by LBG but I have the most fun using Redirection like Phemeto did.
Currently HBG is the elemental pierce king. That’s its main strength. It’s still good for spread in a more controlled environment too, but Critical Firepower on LBG has just made it so much more powerful than HBG in a lot of raw ammo scenarios it’s crazy.
S CLASS!
Coming from the GunSexual himself! Much appreciated, Ang. Hope I can do just as well with the LBG vid in Sunbreak!

My original plan was to get it out by the end of May, but editing delays and other life events got in the way. I am glad I managed to release it before Sunbreak, though!
@@Matadurr Brother I was being so sarcastic!! Sorry I'm Australian, sarcasm is a second language! I'm just grateful that you're committing yourself to these videos! They're so helpful for the community and not just the new ones but vets like me who make changes to my builds because of your vids. Please just know that there is 0 pressure for you to do this but 100 in terms of being appreciative :)
@@Matadurr so, it's been a month. So this 'life' you keep referring to in your previous comment, not exactly sure what that word means (English is only my 1st language), but I really think it's high time to release a LBG build a better hunter video.
OK seriously though I hope everything's alright dude. You are one of the few UA-camrs (and I genuinely mean this), where your content is that fkn good, that I have no problem waiting because it's such decent content. I really hope you're alright brother (in reference to your life events), but I'm sending positive vibes your way :) Stay safe my dude, you're an absolute legend, you seem like a nice guy and just know that your followers will always back you :) But yeah I also just quickly wanted to apologise if you took any of the other stuff in my previous comment seriously. I was just making a crappy joke but there was some truth to it in that Australian's use sarcasm in most sentences so it is hard to switch that off and remember that not everyone is like that - so (and there is no sarcasm in this lol), but seriously I am sorry. I totally get how consuming life can be and I just hope you're ok :) Your vids will come out when they come out and I KNOW they're gonna be awesome! :D (I also just joined your discord! Hopefully it expands because you deserve it (and I also want someone else to talk to in a chat channel hehe). Anyway sorry for the long message, but please take your time brother :)
@@tommo9176 oh no worries man, I actually thought I responded to you again earlier but I must not have not hit "send".
I do appreciate the support, though!
Fortunately, I'm in Australia. So all my meds and all my hospital visits (which is like 8 times a year :/ ) are all covered, and my rent is subsidized as well as utilities. Fk I'm sorry this is properly not helping at all! Just know that I'm sending positive vibes your way mate. I'm so sorry you have to go through this bud. I wish your Government treated you as a human and I wish the fundamentalist Christian right didn't have such influence, where the whole 'helping the poor' has turned into telvenaglism and rich pastors throwing their political weight behind the far, far right (and I'm only a centrist, in fact in my country (it's compulsory to vote here, so people take politics MUCH more seriously) I'm a member of the Labor Party (which is like your version of the Democrats, but I'm in the right wing part of it (so socially centre left, economically centrist) - but in your country, I'd probably be considered a lunatic left wing :/ Sorry to get side tracked, I just wish you well so much bro, so much and I'm genuinely so sorry you have to go through what you're going through without that support. The tenacity and stoicism that must take... I can't even imagine. So if that's one thing, you're one of the strongest people I've spoken to, simply by way of being sick and having to deal a non-existent safety net and a strong public health service. Good luck brother.
As i already told you in Reddit, this video is pure gold.
Great to see you here too, thanks again!
Incredibly sick intro as always
Just started a few days ago my weapon of choice. Love seeing those big number from the wyvernblast
Literally the most underrated MH Rise youtuber out there!
Lol really? A full guide for a weapon on the vanilla game when the expansion came out lol but it is a in-depth one that's certain !!!
Gawd the intros NEVER fail to impress!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wew awesome! Time to build some builds before Sunbreak! Thanks a lot man
I am new to rise and love the heavy bowgun thanks for the great video
With mhr being my first ever monster hunter this video was super helpful for me! The most recent monster I fought was the big wind tornado dragon, also my friends hate me for using the felyne cannon cluster ledge cancel now lmao
Glad I was able to help, have fun!
Holy fuck I love MH Sunbreak and been playing it since launch, just very recently I am giving HBG a try and oh man. The intro left me speechless.
Sick opening sequence!
Just starting out using HBG , after seeing this i am subscribed. Can't wait to see your sunbreak videos
Taking it slow and easy, but Sunbreak has opened up the build landscape a lot!
Very well made video. I have saved it and plan to reference it later. One critique: please lower the music slightly more while your talking.
By far most badass opening video
Wow, the intro was amazing!!! You got a like from me!!! O.O
that intro was really something, brother
Subbed 2 mins in beautifully produced
Perfect video. Learned so much. I've been charging every shot. Now I know lol.
I was mesmerized with the intro lol so badass
the intro fight with teostra is so well done. fuck now i gotta build a HBG
The opening looks like a moooovie! ♥️
This is a legendary amount of information. You make quality content - Subscriber +1
Thanks! I look forward to making an updated version for Master Rank after the final title update.
Shield HBG is actually great in Sunbreak now, I’ll definitely be including it when I update my sets for master rank.
Only problem is that you need Guard 5 so that Tune-up works : /
Though yea.... got Guard Up and Guard on max + Def boost and Divine blessing, so dmg reduction is amazing haha.
I LOVE YOU! YOUVE EARNED MY SUBSCRIPTION. BEST HBG VIDEO EVER
Love it, that intro was sick
Been waiting for you to release it)
Your intro? Damn fine and fun
Your Videos are really entertaining so i just had to subscribe lol Hope youre doing well brother🙏
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
The intro was on another level
This man is the God of heavy bow guns.
49 mins of pure HBG infomation))
That intro was fantastic
My favorite MH content creator :)!
... absolutely... amazing!
that intro was divine
okay, only that intro justifies a like sub and everything
Your vids are awesome man.
Much appreciated, I wish I could make them more often.
@@Matadurr You made vids on the 3 weapons I mainly use. I think you deserve a rest :)
i really need to put the time in to learn this weapon only thing that keeps me away is the ammo crafting / ammo management aspect it really isn’t difficult to create custom shortcuts i’m just lazy 😭
It really does get annoying for the extra time it takes to get radial/item loadouts going. Once they’re set up you’re golden, but it’s such a slog.
This was really good 👍🏾
Im a charge blade/switch axe main but ive always been interested in the hbg, need to give it a try
Loved it! Do the horn next pls!!
Damn than rise and world teostra theme mix is a banger
Yeah I'm happy "A" put that together, it sounds awesome!
Can you do a light bowgun vid?
Check the end-video teaser… 😄
@@Matadurr which one?
@@rosmazlanabdulrashid1163 this one. 🤙🏼
congratulations for the video friend, but I had a doubt. no second 0:35 you use a kind of shoulder that hits the theostra and knocks him down, how did you do that? I've tried all the commands and I can't use it, is it some skill? Thanks in advance, excellent video.
That move is “tackle”, and it’s a switch skill that replaces the standard melee of the HBG. It functions the same as the Great Sword’s tackle and is very useful for tanking through moves that aren’t viable to dodge through. I don’t remember exactly how to unlock it, whether it is from one of Utsushi’s weapon-specific quests or if you need to craft a certain number of unique HBGs.
WOOOOO YEAH BABYYY
I actually secondary bowgun so this makes me rlly happy
Great video my friend. Sub earned w room to spare!🎉
Don’t worry just got it, watched the next 10 seconds🤦♂️ props to you tho brother.
Sorry I didn’t respond sooner yeah it was a small barrel bomb, lot of fun in SB to trigger things with!
You know why I am here, brother.
Love this vid, but is there a plan to do an update for sunbreak?
Dam this guy make his heavy weapon look light
Evade Extender 3 is a hell of a drug.
had my like at the intro :)
I'd love to play this weapon if it wasn't for the constant ammo necessity. Blademaster is just more convenient overall.
I'm going to take it as teostra HBG sucks since I didn't see it on the video.... Just happens to be my favorite
Well. It wasn’t terrible in the base game, as it could do the highest damage per sticky when set up right. But if I remember correctly, the ammo constraints and other stats just didn’t make it competitive to other options.
How to build Light bowgun please 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 thank you ~~~~
Will we get the Sunbreak follow-up?
omfg i didnt know the shoulder check was that good, id heard it was bad.
It’s great! Just don’t abuse it too much since you still take damage.
Hi Matadurr. I am a beginner to monster hunter rise. Would like to ask which monster should I practice to fight n order to become familiar with the controls of heavy bowgun. Wish I could be as skillful as you. I always die and feel depressed.
How do you get the shoulder check in base game mhr
I’m sorry I don’t remember if it is one of Utsushi’s quests or if you can unlock it by just crafting 8 unique HBGs. It’s been so long! Haha
Very well-made.
what armor/ layered armor are you wearing in the video? it just looks really cool and i would totally use it as a layered armor if i knew what it is :)
The Openis is S class Tier, Dangggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
@@Matadurr bought it hahhaha
Thanks for not putting this in my subbox, UA-cam.
ONE WEEK TO SUNBREAK!!!!!
Maybe I should start adding that "click the bell to be notified..." blah blah blah... :)
Excited for Elgado!
How can i get that armor in pc ?? The magnamalo amiibo skin??
It’s an excellent mod by Shiva on nexus mods. You can even convert it to a .pak file if you don’t like dealing with the Fluffy Mod Manager.
@@Matadurr is not dangerous? O mean, baneable or something? And. Only You can see the skin or your teammates too?
@@carlupiclips2567 Capcom has historically never really cared about mods, and even less so on cosmetic end-user-only mods like the magnamalo amiibo armor one. To other players it looks like you’re just wearing standard magnamalo armor, so there’s nothing to worry about.
@@Matadurr thank You so Much
Hey, I wanted to ask if sticky is still a viable option for hbg in base mhr.
WOOOO HES BACKKKK😆😆
What's that big gun that looks like an actual gun??? I want that.
You’re probably thinking of Kushala Daora’s HBG. Looks like a giant long-barreled revolver.
3:10 I thought you dealt 19,595 damage for a second, holy shit
Good catch! Yeah the damage numbers often bunch up next to each other on wakeups. It can be hard to tell what the actual values are.
No teostra were harmed on the making of this video
Fact Check False.
