I moved into a very small room when I made Sergeant in the Air Force. But I was glad to finally get a place without a roommate, and the room had a cool tall vaulted ceiling. I built my own space-efficient furniture instead of using military-issue furniture. I built a loft along one side of the room. On top was my bed with storage cabinets behind it. Under it was a booth-style table and a computer desk. The opposing wall was filled with a bookcase that included two built-in dressers. The whole project turned out awesome. But I guess I made the place too nice. Whenever some VIP (such as a general or a politician or foreign military members) visited the base, they got to see my room as part of the base tour.
One clarification: I didn't build the dressers. I bought them and then designed the bookcase. I did build everything else in the room because I needed specific sizes.
@capuchinosofia4771 Yes, I do have photos. I suppose I could put them in a video. But I want to protect my identity on the web. Some people might see it and know who I am. I left the Air Force 30 years ago. I wouldn't want a loft bed now because, you know, I am 30 years older now. But I'm still doing woodworking!
I love her producer, just totally calm. Thing goes wrong, talent freaks out. Immediately, "It's okay, it's just glue." Talent continues to freak out. "It's okay, everything is going to be fine."
It made me worry what’s she gonna do when those glued-on fairy lights burn out. Maybe since it’s hot glue she can just rip them off. But still, reinstalling isn’t going to be easy. But it’ll be worth it for sure. What a masterpiece.
@@hopegold883 I'm also deeply sorry for the person who has to guess under which leave you have to search for the screws. I haven't come up with an alternative solution yet, but I really think about it...
I *just* realized something, after all these years. I've always loved this channel, and yes part of that is because Simone always seems to come up with the most interesting projects. But also...it's because this is exactly how I imagine Clarissa from "Clarissa Explains It All" to be as an adult. Like, seriously: "So she lived on a boat for a while. Then she became famous by building intentionally shitty robots. Then she was employed by one of the guys from Mythbusters, she dealt with having a brain tumor, Kickstarted a cool light-up calendar, turned a Tesla into a pickup truck, and currently she builds quirky things on UA-cam." is simultaneously a description of Simone's channel history and a pitch for a Clarissa reunion special
The part where she accidentally snaps it and just shouts "OH NOOOOOOO" and starts cry-laughing because she's so shocked and frustrated but also finding the humor in it? I felt that lmao. I don't think I've EVER finished a project without something extremely frustrating happening that makes me hysterically cry-laugh 😂 I feel SO validated. If Simone Giertz is allowed to have a cry-laugh breakdown in the middle of her project then damn it, so am I.

I agree on beds being elevated! My current bed is actually two beds! One on top that I use when watching movies or hanging out with friends and such and the one on the bottom is like my own little private comfort cave. Enclosed spaces can feel really cozy and comfortable to me. The bed is built on top of bookshelves so my bed cave is actually a book cave and I have lots of books and knick knacks down here. It’s really comfortable for me and I love it truly. The coolest bed I’ve ever had
hey Simone, i am a parttime CNC operator and i've noticed that your tabs are rather thick. you can bring them down to like 3mm if you want, then you can easily pop them with a small chisel. on your average 18mm plywood projects you really don't need a lot of tabs when you're not cutting faster than usual, so maybe my tip will cut (haha) some time for you. by the way i really really love your style! the way you show what you do makes it feel so 'normal.' a feeling that i don't have with all these "diy" channels that build epic stuff in less than half an hour and be all normal about it. when you finish something that you're proud of you really show it and that's what i like about your channel and overall style. cheers from the Netherlands!
This isn't bad advice, but there are other considerations: Not least, in my opinion, is that thicker tabs are *great* for working out the tolerances on your machine - don't forget that this is a shakedown project :)
@@jayayerson8819 my comment was indeed more of a tip for future CNC routing projects for Simone, thought she would maybe find it useful as she's new to it. i noticed she had to saw them all through and remove them which can be very time consuming.
Simone, every video you are outdoing yourself. The things you do are so beautiful and you have managed to make your home a truly wonderful place. Dogs, plywood and plants are the ingredients of dreams.
The elevated bed is actually quite genius. When I get away from renting apartments I'll definitely try to do that. My current studio apartment is tiny as it is so I have almost no extra room and certainly no space for building stuff, having one of those beds with a desk underneath it would've been a good start in hindsight but I just have a futon style bed that stays permanently unfolded into a bed I've also always liked the idea of a canopy bed, particularly in the summer because of mosquitoes and blocking out light, maybe I can have an elevated bed and mount some kind of curtain system onto the roof. Adding a future bed project onto the list for sure
Simone: spends 12 hours and lots of intentional design effort gluing felt to her bed rails. Also Simone: uses a deck chair as a ladder to enter the bed.
I love how REAL you are. Like, not only do you have physical form, you're not afraid to make mistakes, and you're not afraid to SHOW us those mistakes. You are the example of "learning from our mistakes makes us better people" that I want to give my campers.
As someone who uses the top bunk of a bunk bed bed as a shelf, and has covered all the sides in blankets to create a fort. I can absolutely say unique beds are awesome lol.
When I was watching the sections being glued together I was thinking that I probably would have added some pegs between the sections to make it a little more stable and secure...
I really appreciate that you left in the emotional part. Many people wouldn't have been brave enough to share disappointment like that. Thanks, we all have rough moments.
Simone - "I know that some people are going to be really sleezy about it." Also Simone - Within the first two minutes, makes a "that's what she said" joke.

The anguished scream when she bumped the wall and broke the sideboard. 🤣 Very relateable for anyone who's worked on a project for a million years and made a mistake. 💕
I love having space under my bed. I've never had a fully lofted bed, but now I'm seriously considering building at least a more raised bed frame. Something like I could fit a mini fridge under it along with some bags etc. Love the video!
Yeah, even with a regular bed you can put some blocks under the feet or buy risers to get a little more height to fit storage bins underneath. Hers has a ton more space, though (if you don't mind literally climbing into bed).

Actually red is the complementary color for green. BUT I did think it was too bad she didn't paint (or otherwise finish) her bed before adding the rails and headboard. It was just plane osb board.
Projects like this are cool - ones that combine woodworking/crafting and art to create things that fit a purpose (or are maybe even multifunctional) but also look nice to keep around/display.

I can't wait to see this all finished with a forest theme and some earth toned sheets. I would also suggest making some more cutout leaves and nailing them to the wall around the bed as well.
i love how this looks. the colours, the graphic almost cartoonish quality. you really dont see it in adult home decor motifs enough imo. i have to shop in the kids section of ikea to find any fun decor. and the spool of thread table!!!!!! amazing!!
I prefer mine, with book shelves at the head, and a nook to put my glasses and watch in. I just have to remember to not put a glass of water in front of the books, so I don’t spill it waking up the next morning. Also a bed too high to just fall on and pass out at 4 am; anything where you have to climb it is too high unless your floor is super-comfortable.
When you named it CNCelia, I was like “nice.” 😂 Not going to lie-the felt gluing bit had me like “oh yeah hook me up.” With a good movie in the background or an audiobook (or even really good conversation), ADHD brain could probably hyperfocus on something like that for a solid 3-4 hours.
CNC, "Computer Numeric Control". The very first one was a computer called the Whirlwind at the end of WWII attached to a Cincinnati Milling Machine cutting metal... They needed to cut airplane parts faster to win the war...
If I make one of these, I’m replacing one of those dressers with a sliding door and putting in a cushion for seating, a small shelf with a lamp on it, some small bookshelves, and a tiny table with a drawer just big enough to hold a diary and some writing tools.
Simone: Concerned about the comments on her bed. Also Simone: Makes a “That’s what she said”, joke within the first 2 minutes of video! And this is why we love you O Queen!!!

40 seconds in and I'm already enthusiastically in agreement. Beds definitely should be elevated with decent storage underneath. My old divan with drawers underneath didn't take the idea far enough. Also can relate to being constrained by being able to explain myself to the landlord. Now I've just got to get off my arse and build the damned components. 14:34 - how wrapped up in this video did I get? Enough that _I_ swore out loud when the side panel broke. Loving your videos.

Thats so cool!!! Do you have a picture? Id love to see it!
But I'm still doing woodworking!

hey Simone, i am a parttime CNC operator and i've noticed that your tabs are rather thick. you can bring them down to like 3mm if you want, then you can easily pop them with a small chisel. on your average 18mm plywood projects you really don't need a lot of tabs when you're not cutting faster than usual, so maybe my tip will cut (haha) some time for you. by the way i really really love your style! the way you show what you do makes it feel so 'normal.' a feeling that i don't have with all these "diy" channels that build epic stuff in less than half an hour and be all normal about it. when you finish something that you're proud of you really show it and that's what i like about your channel and overall style. cheers from the Netherlands!
This isn't bad advice, but there are other considerations: Not least, in my opinion, is that thicker tabs are *great* for working out the tolerances on your machine - don't forget that this is a shakedown project :)
@@jayayerson8819 my comment was indeed more of a tip for future CNC routing projects for Simone, thought she would maybe find it useful as she's new to it. i noticed she had to saw them all through and remove them which can be very time consuming.

so true. could be straight out of a 'most comfy bedrooms' list! and I love the giant plant, it's so vibrant.
But dogs in beds? They don't wipe their feet and they lick their arses...
The elevated bed is actually quite genius. When I get away from renting apartments I'll definitely try to do that. My current studio apartment is tiny as it is so I have almost no extra room and certainly no space for building stuff, having one of those beds with a desk underneath it would've been a good start in hindsight but I just have a futon style bed that stays permanently unfolded into a bed
I've also always liked the idea of a canopy bed, particularly in the summer because of mosquitoes and blocking out light, maybe I can have an elevated bed and mount some kind of curtain system onto the roof. Adding a future bed project onto the list for sure

40 seconds in and I'm already enthusiastically in agreement. Beds definitely should be elevated with decent storage underneath. My old divan with drawers underneath didn't take the idea far enough.

Now I've just got to get off my arse and build the damned components.
